  • In this video I'll show you how to utilize the TV audio output and integrate it into the stereo system so when you are watching sources like cable TV and using a streaming stick your audio will work through the stereo system. Works great when streaming directly to TV and watching cable TV. As always, remember to disconnect power when working with electrical circuits in your RV.
    Below are links to 2 different RCA cables if you would like to perform this modification.
    RCA Cable Option 1: amzn.to/3p3k1pF
    RCA Cable Option 2: amzn.to/3ohLPGp
    RV’s will play audio that originates from the main stereo head unit through the interior and exterior speakers, such as DVD’s, radio, auxiliary input through front of unit, etc... However, any additional video source that you want to add to your TV is usually connected at the TV itself and doesn’t run through the stereo, which means you will only get audio through the TV speakers and NOT the sound system. These types of additions would include cable TV, streaming services though dongle and plug in adapters, or a laptop. We will show you how to install a $6 RCA cable from your TV to your main stereo head unit so that any additional sources will also play through your stereo system. If your equipment is different than what is shown in the video and you are having issues, please leave your question in the comments section and I will answer.

    OK, our RV when delivered had no sound from the TV through the head unit. When I pulled the head unit out, I found that the factory guys had plugged the audio OUT on the TV into the audio OUT on the head unit!!! After moving the plugs to the proper location on the head unit, it worked like a charm. I tried to convince the dealer to contact the manufacturer that they were wiring their RVs incorrectly, but I don't think anything ever came of it.
    In any event, the Furrion electronics found in these RVs are just plain crap. After a few hours, the speaker output on the head unit become intermittent and then completely failed. I can no longer get any sound out of it. A quick Google search confirms this is a common problem, and although some folks have had their units replaced, the replacement units have failed, also. In most cases, like ours, the unit is just out of warranty (natch!) so no joy, there. Frankly, I wouldn't want another Furrion unit.
    I spent some time researching for a replacement that would mount in the double-high standard hole, and found that there are exactly about 3 different brands, all of which have terrible reviews. This is horrible, to spend tens of thousands for a nice RV, and to have the manufacture put really cheap electronics in it. Really just how good do expect a head unit to be when you get them on Amazon for sometimes less than $100. Considering that electronics sell for about ten times the cost of parts, you can see where that leads.
    At the moment, we are using a home 5.1 stereo system that I've tossed into the overhead cabinet. It came with a small subwoofer and five satellite speakers, and for such a small speaker system, it sounds light years better than the crap speakers that came with the RV.
    I'd really like some name-brand electronics manufacturer (Sony, Samsung, etc) to step up and make a quality
    system for the RV. It really doesn't need to be a 12V system, since the TVs these days all run off of 120 VAC anyway.

    What is the best way to increase the sound levels. Something that won't drain the batteries. Has anyone added a small amp to the unit.

    • @RVTIPSANDTRAVELS
      @RVTIPSANDTRAVELS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I would start by changing the speakers, you’ll get better sound quality, but not necessarily more output. Adding an amp is rarely done in RV’s but is an option. A decent small 2 or 4 channel amp can still pull 15 or more amps so it won’t help the cause if you aren’t plugged in. You can add a second battery and isolate it to power the stereo. Another option is to remove the exterior speakers and add them to the interior. That would give you 2 more channels of power from the head unit, probably 50 watts more total. Another option would be to add Bluetooth speakers to the mix.
