The Great CatSpy is a fictional movie trailer and was not only inspired by the great work of hollywood director Baz Luhrman, but is meant to be a statement to the whole filmindustry to watch and keep up to the AI revolution closely!
The video quality isn´t there yet, especially for fast moving shots, but you can imagine, how this might look in 3-6 month from now!!! Soon it will be possible to capture everything in moving pictures without even using a camera!
All shots in this movie trailer were created with text prompts and a beta version of Gen-2 from #runwayml only! (except one iconic shot, you all know, that I used Gen-1 for ;).
About 500 generated shots were needed to get the final result. As Gen-2 is still in beta, it is really hard to direct at the moment. So I took what I got and was even more inspired by some of the outcomes.
The intense editing was made in Adobe Premiere, Music & Sound FX searched and found on MotionArray, custom Voices generated with Elevenlabs (no cloning!) and the script finetuned with the help of ChatGPT.
Made in 2 days from initial (human) idea to finish.

I've never seen AI used like this before! This is so incredibly cool, I actually prefer how the style is here than if it looked completely realistic, this has so much potential for horror movies and such!
Thanks! Indeed it has some unique style on its own! As filmmaker I would prefer it to be more reality like, but for abstract artworks, its kind of special at it is. And yes, everything black & white or very vintage and with a lot of dark in the frame is looking already really good.

This looks great in a visual sense. You will still see the "mistakes" when using AI generation but the fact was made in 2 days is impressive. I hope that this art form can be "married" with next gen technology.

All you might need soon is a subsciption to one of the upcoming text-2-video AI generative tools, some others for music, sound and editing and your knowledge & skills as a filmmaker. So you are dependent on some AI tools and other tools, if you want to see it like this. Nothing compared to whats behind shooting a production looking like this IRL.

I am both excited and horrified. I love what you have done and I love that technology is able to do this. Worried about creativity in scripts and about the concept of female bodies seems to come from Jessica Rabbit or male made computer game characters that are unrealistic. Let's hope that it improves.

In fact Character bodies and faces are not rendered correctly by the AI rn, please have in mind it is a beta version and that it might take 2-3 month to see some big improvements on that. Its meant as a demo for what is possible right now, far from being perfect or realistically correct. Its much better with abstract things at the moment.

As a script writer I like that it might be easier to make and share my vision rather than letting it go to someone else. Unrealisitic female bodies in animation and computer games is just my soap box. :) I shall watch in interest what comes next.

I had access from the beginning, because I had beta of gen1. Yes, its still closed beta. No glue when it will open up.
This would probably be a better parody film if it were made by actual people.

@@visiblemaker I mean, it sounds like it was a title written by people and if it were a film that had an actual team behind it rather than just an AI animating the trailer, it would probably turn out far better and be a really fun parody.
Maybe you could try putting together a film trailer yourself, without the use of any AI. Besides, the music I’m sure you mentioned was human written and externally sourced, and you could also get a team of people to act in it and capture the style of the original “Great Gatsby” film. It would be like “The Great Gatsby” meets “Blacksad”. Think about it.

@@visiblemaker Perhaps it doesn’t need to be big budget if you’re just making a trailer. You could still direct it like it’s a funny TH-cam video. Maybe just stick to that for now, a trailer for “The Great Catsby” but it’s a TH-cam collaboration effort and community project.
@@visiblemaker Besides, for the star of “The Great Catsby”, you could just have a regular white cat in cosplay. It could even be something like what Aaron’s Animals would make. It may not be super big budget blockbuster, but it will just be really funny and charming. I’d much rather see something like that than a film made with AI.

Give it 3-6 month, and it will already look a lot lot better. In 2 years it might be indistinguishable from what we are used to see today in high end production movies.

Yes, some come very close already. Its only getting better over time now.
Did you film the shots by yourself or did you simply use shots from the hollywood movie the great gatsby?
All these shots are generated by AI with text prompt inputs. Every shot was just 3 second long and I made about 500 shots to get the shots that made it into this trailer together.

Gen2 is still beta. Prompts were made in kind of experimental flow. Maybe I will share some of them later.

Does runway make the character speak?
No it doesnt (for now), at least not to a certain voice. You can prompt for talking and the lips will move. But to sync it, you need to use other tools and a voice generator like Elevenlabs to make custom voices. In this case I just nudged the video around, until it was "kind of" in sync.

well... this will be something the whole AI creative community will have to face and discuss with humanity soon. All I took from The Great Gatsby was a similar name, a lookalike of the movie poster and one stylized meme. Besides that, its all uniquely created content and ideas.

Considering the state of big budget films, I actually kinda wanna see a feature-length AI-generated movie to see how the "creatives" at Hollywood would react. Either they get better at being creative or they pony up and let the future of filmmaking be decided by indie groups
If we get the right tools at time, I would be pleased to make this or another idea a full feature-lenght AI-generated movie with some friends soon. The future of indie filmmaker groups will have a lot of surprises for all audiences for sure!
It doesn't work well for long movies. Machine Learning needs to work on top of a model someone creates. The model has rules and boundaries that keep the AI aligned. It's simple to make a model of small things. For example AI language models ate good at paragraphs, very short stories, etc. But the models will grow exponentially in complexity as you attempt to write a book or screenplay. And then you must select what data is used for training the AI on the model.
Honestly, this will not put people out of work as much as it will make a new class of authors that build models and curate the data for training them.
@@falconwp I mean, considering the rather sorry state of big budget films and with people like Kathleen Kennedy whelming the Star Wars franchise, it shouldn't take too much for a machine to replace those types of people. At worst, the algorithm will output a similar text result to what the big budget screenwriters and cinema project leads are coming up with, which is still more cost-effective

Sorry but won't filmmaking then be limited to entering commands into the computer for AI? I like the great advantages which AI brings but won't be still more natural and emotional (and faster) take living actors, equipment and creative crew to shoot live action? In some cases I inderstand (maybe) spending less money (costumes, set design...) but it must take so much time to enter right commands, don't it? And anyway you can't keep track of all the details there, can you? You can't say to AI about all of actors, props, lights... It will be generated by itself, will not?

Totally get your point. And for specific high end filmmaking, that might be the point for doing it in reallife for some more years. But in the end its an economic factor, if you can achieve similar results with a fraction of the cost... and time. Finding the right prompts won´t be an issue soon. Directing it to very specific needs and on point, might take a bit longer.

Way to give critics of AI who say that AI just plagiarizes content ammo, by literally just ripping off the great gatsby's trailer.
I didn´t copy or rip off the Great Gatsby Trailer at all. This was all put together manually by myself and own idea, shot by shot, without any editing-reference.

It sometimes did, and sometimes didn´t. AI still struggles with hands, but its getting better.
Weird because our brains struggle with hands when we dream. One way of inducing a lucid dream is to look at your hands every hour of the day so you do it by habit even when dreaming except in a dream you usually have 20 fingers or they look weird. It's all a simulation.
I really love Marvel movies, but this would be soooo dangerous for them and movies like them. 😬🤷🏻♂️

I wonder why the quality is so bad.
Midjourny creates stunning images already but stoping this video anywhere and looking at the images they are not even close to current midjourny quality. A video is just a bunch of images. Generating slightly changing images seems like an easy task compared to generating the whole image from pure noise.
Anyone an idea why this should be so much harder? I quess the problem is more in the area of having less well trained models available for the video creation compared to the image creation used by midjourny and I suspect a very quick jump in quality as soon as the more powerful models are combined with the video generating models.
Its much more behind moving images then just putting some still together in a row. MJ has been at this level of quality like 9-12 month ago. Gen-2 is the first real text to video AI generator out there for use. Expect it to be much better in the next couple of month.
This deserves so many more dislikes. The AI can't even pronounce the title of the movie right for the proper pun!

What I told about the devine spark was the moment of getting an idea... where it all starts to become the one idea behind an unfolding story. Was telling that, because AI isn´t there to do this on its own atm. About the statement for the filmindustry: As I said, I wanted to show what is possible now, and started some discussions with that, because people didn´t expect this to be there so quickly. Got in contact with some industrial professionals from VFX departements and were told, that most are already aware of what is coming for the filmindustry...
@@visiblemaker Of course they know. I find it strange that you actually believe that they are so ignorant towards technological progress that they don't know about AI. That's quite an insult. Weta VFX uses neuronetworks for VFX for example and AI is everywhere on the news anyways. Also there's no story here that unfolds as you say. I think your overestimating your inspiration as well as your technological foresight.

And its not only about Hollywood... this is addressed to all filmmakers out there, independent and smaller production companies, that might not be at the cutting edge of technology, as some of the big hollywood / VFX studios are.
The AI revolution is coming and changing a lot! I want to make this more visible and aware, especially for the industry I am working in myself.
For the story: Its a trailer for a not yet written movie... so what would you expect? Everything is open to happen in that movie, if it will be created one day.🙏

Well, this was made 5 month ago, AI video quality advances! Besides the meme shot, everything is original in this one! AI doesn´t borrow, it learns and resynthesizes. Deep stories are still the main thing to acomplish and for that human storytellers will always be at the center of creativity, even if you just direct what AI is proposing to you.
