I swear to god I used to know everything about Metal Gear like the back of my hand, and every Final Fantasy game I ever played was definitely easier to understand. For one thing, at that time they (FF)didn't have many sequels. Metal Gear was this whole franchise that would retcon thing's contantly for a good twist. Final Fantasy would release one self-contained, but elaborate narrative. The best policy in both cases was always to consider the source and the chronology of the information. If a more trustworthy character told you something later that conflicted with what the villain told you earlier, then what the villain told you was a lie. A lot of people seem to struggle with this basic rule.
@@futurestoryteller Nah, I'd definitely say Metal Gear is easier. Heck, the only thing that tops Final Fantasy in how outright confusing it can be is Kingdom Hearts. Even to this day, I don't understand a single thing about that franchise.

At the basis of literally every Final Fantasy game is: "We're gonna save the world!" but then you have all this confusing, convoluted mumbo-jumbo like time traveling and primordial alien species and ancient-sentient-mecha-godzilla-like machine destroyer monsters and science experiments and talking cats and all this other stuff that usually gets told in one massive exposition dump I'd simply ignore as a child (because all I wanted was to play the game) and STILL can't really wrap my head around as an adult. Metal Gear is a walk in the park compared to that. And boy, don't even get me started on Kingdom Hearts. At least I can understand bits and pieces of each Final Fantasy game.
Kingdom Hearts is...can't even think of a word to describe that mess, especially 3 (which is supposed to be the "real" 3 yet is not the "real" 3 at the same time because all those side games you thought weren't part of the main story were actually somehow part of the main story and everything that conflicts with that main story took place in an alternate dimension with alternate versions, some evil, of characters existing during a different alternate point in time that allows clones to time travel and SO much other bs I just gave up on).

"They move and talk like real people rather than RPG characters". After completing KH3 and VII Remake, I could understand what Dunkey talks about. I can say for sure, FFXV has the best English voice acting in the FF franchise and KH combine. The antagonist's English voice actor is even better than the Japanese one. Also, if someone wants to buy it, I'd recommend the Royal Edition/ Windows Edition ones. This game is amazing!

It doesn't take THAT long to get through that section, and even then at the MANY breaks you get within that section you are able to go back and do previous stuff in the open world. Yo IKR. I 100% this game and that ending was just heartbreaking. It was only a few days but the end credits included all the pictures you took starting from day 1 and it honestly felt like a year long journey. Shit got me sad man

Landing the car is like trying to land the plane in Top Gun. Except you only get one chance to do it in FFXV.
+RagingUtai the storyline is only about 1/3rd of the content, the flying car is really useful for the post game which will take a lot of your time and has the best fights
The storyline is an unfinished mess with major characters routinely and inexplicably dropping dead offscreen, the flying car is used exactly once to get somewhere you can't normally get to, the mechanics for it are broken as hell, and landing it is as retarded as landing the plane in Top Gun for the NES.
I know that it's not your main gig, but I gotta say Dunkey, you make some of the best game reviews on TH-cam.

That's what I've been saying. The characters feel like actual charecters. You relate to them and feel them. They are not one dimensional like XIII or expository messes like VIII. Noctis is not a generic stick in the mud. He actually have a good personality and does get sad but for giod reason and his friends are there to assist him. This game honestly benefited from not having Numura. Imagine the characters being like in KH. One personally and non stop exposition with no emotion. This game gets so much unnecessary hate. This is one of the best Final Fantasy games of all time.

I just recently got into the game, maybe a week ago? And from my experience its not 100% perfect but I enjoy the characters and their bromance, inspired me enough to watch the anime that goes with the background of all 4, prompto does get on my nerves sometimes, "oh, hi there opening" × infinity, other than that I see myself playing this over and over again

Playing through the game again in 2021 on pc, royal edition with all dlcs for about $20:

Ff15 in 2021 is one of the best AAA gaming experiences you can have
did the same, first bought and finished it on the ps4 and never bought nor tried any dlc's before, replayed it with the royal edition this month in pc and it was a fucking blast, new enemies, new perspective on every major characters and so much more content.

More than two years later, here I come. I'm so glad dunkey didn't demolish it. I absolutely love every single Final Fantasy - because I have great childhood memories with them. I know they have their flaws, but I just ignore them for my own sake. I'm so sad about the ending and that they cancelled the DLCs... Really loved FF15. Read too much negative stuff about it.

Try to look at it from the perspective of the critics. They watch movies and analyze them for a living. Their job is to inform the moviegoer. After watching so many movies, the bar for what makes a movie good trends upward. A lot of the reviews say that the story line doesn't make sense and it's essentially a long cut scene for a video game. From the perspective of a person who doesn't play the video games, can you say they are wrong?

Had to tear myself away from my PS4 back home to move up to college. It was so hard after buying this game.
Fast forward one year later and I *still* haven't done everything. I have over 300 hours logged in the main game alone - and together with all the DLC expansions (including a grindy online multiplayer component and a now-confirmed SECOND season pass) I'm afraid there's no end in sight.
'Endlessness' really is the best way to describe this game. Perfect name for the song used in the Omen trailer. I love FFXV, but damn if it hasn't caused my backlog to pile up obscenely and make me feel bad about holding off on everything I else I want to play.

A week to beat the story in an open world rpg is pretty standard, especially playing casually.
yeah its only about 20 hours for the main story, so its pretty short, but there are some fucking meaty bonus dungeons after you beat it. like min 4 hours to complete dungeons.
This isn't old school JPRG which requires grinding to beat.
In the old days, almost eveyr JRPG needs Level grinding to be actually beatable, these days most RPG rewards the player a fuckton of XP just by finishing quests.
24 hours a day. a week is 7 days. thats 168 hours. if a game your playing takes that for just the main story then that would be the most boring and tedious story of all time. ff15 is like 20-25 hours long if you do just the main story but well over 100 to do everything

I feel like Dunkey's rating system is a bit wonky if he overall enjoyed the game as opposed to mostly hating No Man's Sky and this game got 3/5 as to NMS's 2/5. Admittedly in a ratio as small as x/5 a change in one numeral can mean a lot but it seems to have lost some of it's impact for me personally. Still as entertaining a review as ever though, love your videos Dunkey keep up the awesome work! It's also been fun to see what you've been doing with your channel since quitting League, your content has never felt more consistently fresh for me!
The problem is people only care about the score. I guess some people think the game is bad because dunkey gave it a 3/5.. When he said a shit ton of positive things about it.

Would have been one of my most favorite Final Fantasies...if the later half of the game wasn't so depressing. And, if you think about it, the bad guy kind of wins in the end.

The only issue i had with this game is its the shortest final fantasy I've ever played, there were many characters you thought you were going to see more of and have depth added to them but they just dissappear as if there is a going to be ff15-2, the game feels like they cut half of the game off as if its going to be DLC and the story doesn't make sense and is difficult to follow i still don't get what the main bad guy was or why he did the shit he did, its a shame because the game play was good apart from the fact its near impossible to lose if you have potions they seriously casualised the game.

SPOILER: The main bad guy (Ardyn) was acting out of spite. He wanted revenge. His name is Ardyn Lucis Caelum meaning he is distantly related to Noctis as he was the heir to be the king of Lucis about 2,000 years ago. However, when the Starscourge struck and creatures and people started turning into daemons, Ardyn took it upon himself to heal these people by using his royal power from the crystal to exorcise the daemons and absorb them into himself so as to trap them from re-attacking those people. That allowed him to develop a lot of power and become immortal. As such, when it was time for him to reign, he was instead ostracised and exiled because he was deemed "unclean" due to being tainted with daemons (which if you ask me is a very fucked up thing to do to him since he only absorbed those daemons to save others). So he sought revenge to end the royal line of Lucis as well as the crystal, and reasonably so. Ardyn is the real victim in this story - and when stories have a way of making bad guys understood and empathised with, that, to me, is the sign of a great story. I loved it.
Taylor Austin Sounds like the lore wasn't thought out like the film, it always asking why they did just do a certain thing which would avoided so much pointlessness, take for example Ardyn taking all that time for revenge when he's immortal and could of done it from the start, and did they explain were the why people etc turnef into deamons?
SPOILER: Ardyn couldn't have sought revenge from the start because he was waiting for 'the chosen one' who would become one with the crystal - that was Noctis. He needed to destroy the line of Lucis as well as the crystal in one blow, which is why throughout the game he would help Noctis get to where he needs to go. He wanted him to get to the crystal and absorb its power. He had to wait 2,000 years for Noctis to finally show up as per the prophecy.
And no, as far as I saw the game does not explain how the Starscourge and daemons originated but, much like real life we do not know where cancer originated from for instance and the game does state to be 'a fantasy based on reality.' Furthermore, I feel it unnecessary to know the origin of the Starscourge as it is of no consequence to the story itself.
This is the first game that requires me to literally play two games at once. I need something to do during all the cut scenes, meals, drives, overnight stays etc. The 1/3 of the game that actually demands concentration is quite good after a hard day at work.
