To be fair, the game is just about the villain backstory of Final Fantasy 1 which came out in 1987. You might also have picked up the very subtle comedic approach the developers took to the concept.
It's the refreshing simplicity of it. Like, no greater purpose, no deep backstory, he just woke up one day and decided to kill a concept that didnt event exist yet. And by god he stuck with it until his grave. He is a giga chad.

By far my favorite part of this is listening to Jack ask or just talk about Chaos in general like 12-13 times throughout the video, only to yell out "I don't give a fuck who you are!" As a being who genuinely looks like it could be Chaos is introducing itself. Lol. 10/10.

It's kind of more like Archaon's backstory from Warhammer Fantasy. Guy sets out to stop the herald of the apocalypse, only knowing that said heralds name is Archaon. Finds out that prophecy dictates that the one searching for Archaon will end up becoming Archaon. Becomes Archaon, the herald of Chaos and the end times.
Okay, let me explain for anyone confused: Jack, Ash, and Jed all arrive in the world of Cornelia with no memory. All they know is that they need to kill Chaos. Neon and Sophia also have a desire to kill Chaos, so they team up. Jack, Ash, Jed, and Neon all have crystals, much like the prophesied Warriors of Light, but these crystals are dark. It's later revealed that Jack, Ash, and Jed are from another dimension controlled by the Lufenians. They've been sent to Cornelia before, and attempted to destroy the darkness, which was banished to Cornelia by the Lufenians. They failed, so the Lufenians erased their memories and reset the world. The scenes where Jack is wearing white are memories from that previous attempt. He used to be friends with Astos, and was in love with Princess Sarah. The darkness once again spreads and becomes uncontrollable. In order to break free of the Lufenians' influence, Jack's allies force him to kill them, causing him to absorb all of their darkness and become Chaos. He then severs the connection between Lufenia and Cornelia. It's also revealed that Jack is Garland, the first boss you fight in the first Final Fantasy and the true identity of Chaos. Ash, Jed, Neon, and Sophia are the Four Fiends. They then go 2000 years into the past, just like Chaos/Garland did in the original Final Fantasy, and wait for the Warriors of Light. The Warriors of Light are easily defeated, so Jack goes back in time and fights them again. In every loop, the Warriors of Light become stronger, until eventually they're able to easily defeat Garland. The Warriors of Light then go back in time and defeat Chaos, breaking the time loop and destroying the darkness once and for all. What the fuck.

This is one of those Dunkey videos where I can't tell when the parody ends and the legit game is being shown. If even half the dialogue he showed is legit, this game is a fricken fever dream.
My favorite line of dialogue was the reply "No, it's ok, I memorized it" in response to being offered a music player. You're not studying for an exam, it's meant to be listened to.

The editing is key here. It adds timing. If you play the game the individual scenes wouldn't be that funny I think. Or at least less. Dunkey is great at this, he has many videos in that style, sometimes without any commentary. Still just as funny. That takes some real skill.

They did cut down! Apparently there is a lot more "I must kill chaos" lines in the original Japanese, but it became such a fucking meme that they changed many lines in English.
Out of all the crazy stuff that happens in this game, I think the weirdest part is that the princess has memorized her favorite song, and therefore never needs or wants to hear it again.

The ending is really nice. Overall the last stretch of the game left me with a very positive impression. I played with Japanese dub though, the English dub sounds stupid.

I think Nomura as ascended into that realm of Lucas-like mythos where anything that's a 'flaw' in his storytelling is just "satire" or "misinterpreted genius", and anything that's genuinely good was definitely not put there by Nomura. I think people at Square are too afraid to challenge him on things. Final Fantasy has never made a whole lot of sense, even before Nomura joined Square, but holy hell if they ever got real writers they could absolutely dominate the RPG market.
No that's the beautiful part. This game is flopping hard in Japan, the Japanese fucking haaaaaate it because it's intended to be 100% serious. All the dumb bullshit that is jacks character is played completely straight and flat in the Japanese version and the devs have gone of record saying they were upset at the reaction to the trailers. The western translation literally saved this game from being a complete failure instead of a The Room tier experience

I know that he's their dude for FF, KH, and all similar IP, but for the love of Jesus I hope Hajime Tabata makes one from scratch. Dear Lord, TN just does not get FF. And although I started off with 12 (Pretty late in the game), everything storywise that was good about it was not conceptualized by him. He needs writers, he needs to not write those, he's just not good at it. Kingdom Hearts too, that game has no right being as convoluted a story as it is. His writing is MNS level bad, he had occasional Sixth Sense moments, but they're few and far between...

Well to be fair - this is basically original FF1 plot re-imagined. (Jack) Garland (1st boss) becoming Chaos (Last boss) in original game was due to a stable time loop. It worked like that: 1. Hereos of Light almost kill Knight Garland. 2. Lich sends Jack Garland to the past (and to local Hell for good measure) 3. Knight Garland lifts weights and RIPS AND TEARS until he usurps King of Demons in the past, takes his place and becomes CHAOS. 4. Heroes of Light can't beat CHAOS in the present (too much GAINS accumulated over years) and travel to the past. 5. Heroes of Light still LOSE to Chaos and frickin' DIE in the past. Chaos starts accumulating GAINS to be as buff as he was in present. 6. In time period between Past and Present he creates his Demonic Generals - and among them LICH. 7. Who once he sees in the present as Knight Garland almost died to Heroes sends him to the past. And here ya go stable time loop which repeats ad infinitum. Actual Ending of FF1 where Heroes of Light actually manage to kill CHAOS in the PAST instead of repeating Step 5 - breaks the Time Loop and creates TIME PARADOX which removes demons from existence... But also divides Heroes of Light by zero - because "No demon invasion - Heroes of Light never came into existence as a response to the threat to it". But hey - everyone else, including Knight Garland ends up okay in a new timeline.

Jack, Ash, and Jed all arrive in the world of Cornelia with no memory. All they know is that they need to kill Chaos. Neon and Sophia also have a desire to kill Chaos, so they team up. Jack, Ash, Jed, and Neon all have crystals, much like the prophesied Warriors of Light, but these crystals are dark. It's later revealed that Jack, Ash, and Jed are from another dimension controlled by the Lufenians. They've been sent to Cornelia before, and attempted to destroy the darkness, which was banished to Cornelia by the Lufenians. They failed, so the Lufenians erased their memories and reset the world. The scenes where Jack is wearing white are memories from that previous attempt. He used to be friends with Astos, and was in love with Princess Sarah. The darkness once again spreads and becomes uncontrollable. In order to break free of the Lufenians' influence, Jack's allies force him to kill them, causing him to absorb all of their darkness and become Chaos. He then severs the connection between Lufenia and Cornelia. It's also revealed that Jack is Garland, the first boss you fight in the first Final Fantasy and the true identity of Chaos. The editing is key here. It adds timing. If you play the game the individual scenes wouldn't be that funny I think. Or at least less. Dunkey is great at this, he has many videos in that style, sometimes without any commentary. Still just as funny. That takes some real skill.

The beautiful thing about this game is that I can't tell if it's self-parody or playing the edge completely straight.

I think Nomura as ascended into that realm of Lucas-like mythos where anything that's a 'flaw' in his storytelling is just "satire" or "misinterpreted genius", and anything that's genuinely good was definitely not put there by Nomura. I think people at Square are too afraid to challenge him on things. Final Fantasy has never made a whole lot of sense, even before Nomura joined Square, but holy hell if they ever got real writers they could absolutely dominate the RPG market.

All the dumb bullshit that is jacks character is played completely straight and flat in the Japanese version and the devs have gone of record saying they were upset at the reaction to the trailers. The western translation literally saved this game from being a complete failure instead of a The Room tier experience

Dear Lord, TN just does not get FF. And although I started off with 12 (Pretty late in the game), everything storywise that was good about it was not conceptualized by him. He needs writers, he needs to not write those, he's just not good at it. Kingdom Hearts too, that game has no right being as convoluted a story as it is.

He even created storyboards for the game, wrote the personalities of each character, etc. He came up with the idea for this game a decade ago.

Knowing that Jack's response to "Chaos isn't real" is him saying "BULLSHIT" and then blasts early 2000's radio metal on his e-Phone (THE Enix phone) while dramatically walking away, it provides a sense of joy I had no idea would ever exist. I don't know how this game is real, but the joy I get from it's second hand embarrassment is a blessing on this spinning rock.

"recent projects" Soooo...Kingdom Hearts and just Kingdom Hearts? That's the only thing where he has complete creative control over. Anything else is just character designs. His contributions to Final Fantasy 7 Remake stopped real quick as he isn't directing the next parts.

Well to be fair - this is basically original FF1 plot re-imagined. (Jack) Garland (1st boss) becoming Chaos (Last boss) in original game was due to a stable time loop. It worked like that:
1. Hereos of Light almost kill Knight Garland.
2. Lich sends Jack Garland to the past (and to local Hell for good measure)
3. Knight Garland lifts weights and RIPS AND TEARS until he usurps King of Demons in the past, takes his place and becomes CHAOS.
4. Heroes of Light can't beat CHAOS in the present (too much GAINS accumulated over years) and travel to the past.
5. Heroes of Light still LOSE to Chaos and frickin' DIE in the past. Chaos starts accumulating GAINS to be as buff as he was in present.
6. In time period between Past and Present he creates his Demonic Generals - and among them LICH.
7. Who once he sees in the present as Knight Garland almost died to Heroes sends him to the past.
And here ya go stable time loop which repeats ad infinitum. Actual Ending of FF1 where Heroes of Light actually manage to kill CHAOS in the PAST instead of repeating Step 5 - breaks the Time Loop and creates TIME PARADOX which removes demons from existence... But also divides Heroes of Light by zero - because "No demon invasion - Heroes of Light never came into existence as a response to the threat to it". But hey - everyone else, including Knight Garland ends up okay in a new timeline.
