I always wondered why meganium and yanmega never got mega evolutions so they could become mega meganium and mega yanmega, respectively.
Name: Element
ID: 5XR1DJ
How GOOD was Seismetoad actually?
Fun fact, if you fuse together Meganium and Yanmega, you can actually get Megamega. Now give it a Mega Evolution. Mega Megamega.
Edit: lmao, was not expecting this to blow up, what happened
Or megmega
@@Pam234 I actually have a screenshot of Megamega from a few years ago (Japeal fusion generator).

Megamega Megamega Megamega Mega...
I'm 100% Mega.
They just merge and transform into a cube at that point
Meganium would’ve been bad in competitive regardless but the perception of Meganium in game would’ve improved in any other region. It just happened to exist in the only region without Rock Water or Ground gym leaders.
Hey :) when you Beat the Champ you can visit Kanto. There Are Brock and Misty as a Gym Battle! Which types They Use you ask? Well find out, in Not gonna Spoiler you!
Being bad against 5/8 of the Gym Leaders didn't help this poor Dinosaur out either...
I just don’t think it’s design is that appealing
Poor Meganium isn't useful against any of the Gym Leaders, Elite 4 members, Lance, or even Team Rocket
@@gengarcrobat1576it does fine against Bruno
its okay meganium. youre still no 1 in my heart.
Mine too❤
Exactly, Meganium is Nobody.
Get a better heart
I see you are a human of culture as well
Every time I see no 1, I make a point of pronouncing it no one.
I was SO shocked when y’all said Meganium had a legitimate place in GSC OU. I’m so used to it being absolutely crapped on by everyone everywhere that I was sure there was no way it had ever been viable, and it makes me happy that it at least had a little time in competitive.
Tbf most people probably never played GSC OU so that information isn’t as widely known as say snorlax and the legendary electrics being top 3
but that is where meganium peaked, after that...meganium fell down at mach 5 into utter unviability
Yeah that was interesting to see.....until it fell off the cliff and hit every single rock on the way down.
In GSC due to the DV values not having a total cap, you could max out all stats to make a perfect pokemon similar to pokemon Legends, so thus defensive pokemon were the name of the game as EVERYONE was tanky. After that, with EVs being total capped, you had to choose to go for hyper offense or defense and thus many people favored pokemon that hit fast and hard. If it was a defensive pokemon it needed to have a powerful niche or be able to survive more than 3 turns with spikes and stealth rock chip damage to be worth it. cause that's about how long it'd take for Toxic/poison or passive damage to realy make a dent, or Chansey to destroy something with seismic tosses.
@@ManyTanks1 funnily enough, raikou isn't considered the 3rd best anymore by many competitive players. I would say that at this point it's fairly widely accepted that Cloyster is better, partially due to Zapdos being just more effective on average in a similar niche and partially due to how good Cloyster is. Some will also argue that Gengar is better as well, but overall the two are seen as pretty equal. (For the record, not saying this to try to prove you wrong as it *is* a "widely known" part of the metagame that its Snorlax and the electrics as top 3. However, it's not very accurate anymore).
I think at the very least Meganium should get Strength Sap, that would definitely help with its walling
This and replace Leaf Guard with Triage
Have a new form that's grass/dragon with the ability marvel scale
Give it calm mind, draining kiss, triage, and a fairy typing, hopefully then it could be somewhat viable
maybe change its design too, to something more... necklace-themed? idk
With it being such a bulky mon, I think it should get thick fat to at least get rid of its fire and ice weakness @@michaelbeardi6178
As a longtime Feraligatr fan, I genuinely think Meganium deserves a better hand. Shoutouts to New Pokémon Snap for giving this thing the spotlight it’s earned.
I loved how sassy Ashes chikorita was in the anime and I always thought Baylee’s looked cooler than meganium it’s a shame cuz they barely seemed to try with it
Honestly, all New Pokémon Snap means for Meganium is that Meganium looks good and could be a mascot character that does badly in competitive
I wish it had a better hidden ability like thigh fat, filter or magic bounce. Leaf gaurd is a very terrible ability
Plus a better move set with yawn, energy ball, seed bomb, trailblaze, or strength sap.
These would be a great buff to megadnium. Since this was my first pokemon I used in heart gold. With the move set of paralyzing spores, giga drain, pedal dance and Magical leaf
I recently started SoulSilver again, and I choose Chickorita just to make the game harder... but I did not expected to be this hard at the start
Johto is very anti grass since it uses the types not used in Kanto Which was very in favor in grass types which is why fires are good in gen 2 and not gen 1 since the types fire was good against was only used once in Kanto but there are more fire weaknesses in johto
Grass types vs gym:
Flying: 💀
Bug:💀
Normal: Ok

We went from Unfortunate to Disappointing ☠️
Well, unfortunate didn't begin to describe Meganium's downfall
@@asterie_e7126top tier comment
@@asterie_e7126 Meganium is beyond convinced at this point. After getting completely tooled by scheduling with Meganium's opponent changing times last minute and refusing to provide confirmation prior to the day of the match, losing this way somehow felt even worse than Meganium had thought possible. Meganium's preparation was superior, Meganium's play was superior, and Meganium lost, so there's no reason to continue engaging in an activity where what is within Meganium's control is overwhelmingly outweighed by what is not.
Meganium is done with competitive Pokemon, and you won't get a fond farewell. This community is infected to its roots with a degenerative disease that grows stronger over time but stops short of killing its host. Tournaments used to have a competitive spirit at their heart; this has been transplanted and replaced with an artificial organ that feeds on vitriol and mockery from insecure little boys that heckle by the sidelines and tear each other to shreds over scraps of attention. The environment they fostered has trapped them all like this in a vicious cycle, and escaping it requires acceptance of the harshest reality they all scramble to explain away, that none of the countless straining efforts they put themselves through here will ever amount to one single shining glimmer of significance. Meganium would make this the end, but World Cup is still ongoing, and Meganium would never leave so many great friends out to dry, so Meganium will suffer through a few more games for them.
One last thing before Meganium leaves you all to react with disdain, ridicule, and self-righteous fervor, before you do everything in your power to minimize Meganium's words and thoughts, box them up and shove them to some cobwebbed corner of your memory, and hope they disappear forever as a stain on your finite time ground to dust. From this moment on, nothing you say matters to Meganium. The foulest insults you hurl with intent to wound will calmly settle at the earth before Meganium's feet, and the venom you spit will bring all the pain of a warm summer breeze. You are less than anything you can conceive, while Meganium carries on, brimming with joy distilled from detachment.
@@asterie_e7126came to this comment just to reply with this
Its a starter with a good design, so it being mediocre to bad is very disappointing.
Chikorita was my first pokemon ever (I named it after my brother) so it was sad that Meganium struggled so much in game and especially in competitive
Chikorita was the first card I had in Japanese, released even before Gold/Silver came out. I went with it and it's been my baby ever since. Easily my favorite starter, even with all its pitfalls.
@@PuzzlePottage1390funny since it doesnt learn sludgebomb
You might remimber the last move wrong
Bruh I've used Chikorita ingame and its pretty good. Tf you on
I mean they buffed torterra and empoleon maybe meganium will Get. a miracle move/ability to make it viable.
I used it as a special wall with toxic in my last crystal nuzelock and it did ok enough
The fact they didn't give Meganium Flower Veil as a replacement hidden ability is still wild to me, it doesn't have leaves any more and flower veil does leaf guard but better.
Or Aroma Veil. Game Freak seemed to be very hesitant to change abilities until this generation ignoring unreleased hidden abilities(Previous generations that added abilities only took the second slot with the only Pokemon that flat out changed abilities being Gengar because it was kind of broken). In Teal Mask, we finally broke that rule again with Shiftry (changing Early Bird to Wind Rider) and Empoleon (Defiant to Competitive).
I like thick fat like they did for mega Venusaur, but yeah better ability will do justice. Plus, 2nd typing like Dragon since it already has the look.
Whoaaa! We can't let Meganium have that ability, it'd be too broken!
Now go give that weird looking chimera fossil with a tail for a body Strong Jaw so it can maybe stand a chance with Fishious Rend.
@@PIKMINROCK1Scolipede in Gen 6 also replaced Quick Feet with Speed Boost
They did update Empoleon's hidden ability from Defiant to Competitive this gen. Maybe they'll give Meganium the same treatment
We’ve been waiting for this! Poor meganium can’t get a break :((
But this isn' terrakion!
and it's gonna be even more terrible in gen 9's DLC as the removal of aromatherapy means it's gonna be more outclassed
@@bulborb8756 STOP IT GAMEFREAK STOP IT RIGHT NOW

@@bulborb8756Unless they give it Heal Bell lol
It may be disappointing in competitive, but man oh man, the Chikorita line is an absolute godsend in the Mystery Dungeon series. Double screens for huge damage reduction, a long range attack in Razor Leaf, self healing with Synthesis, Aromatherapy. Heck even just Growl since it hits all enemies in the same room, combine that with screens and you're taking like a quarter of the damage you'd normally be taking! Oh and lets not forget Ancient Power as a starting egg move! :D
I remember the Primal Kyogre boss battle in Rescue Team DX, where most videos I saw on YT had their fully evolved starters and legendaries around level 50 and higher, I managed to get it done at around level 36 with Chikorita and my partner Psyduck with all the damage reduction/item combinations and such. (Cloud Nine is absolutely goated in the MD games.)
Hope you get your time in the sun Meganium, and here's to you getting that Mega! ^^
This comment is what I wanted! I watch Mystery Dungeon footage sometimes.
Oh yeah, and I saw Purity Forest be done very well by Meganium itsef. Apparently PMD Meganium is boss.
If Meganium was going to get some buffs, they should double down on its role as a Cleric or a Supportive Wall, able to heal its allies and itself, and be able to take hits well. Moves like Pollen Puff might be a good start, as well as a different hidden ability for sure - leaf guard is practically a non-ability at this point, so something like Regenerator as mentioned, or some other better defensive ability that isn't situational.
Or heck, they could have made it into a grass/fairy type. Would have done wonders
The support pokemon you want from meganium already exists. Try bayleaf with an eviolite. You lose on the dmg part, you get the real tank experience and synthesid becomes incredible
Thick fat would be cool
Grass/Fairy and give it Friend Guard. Done.
Thick fat makes the most sense
I’m hoping to see a new strong move for my boy in Indigo Disk. Seeing Shell Smash torterra and Tidy Up Furret gives me some hope
as somoene who likes grass starters it does pain me to see just how far Meganium falls, but hearing that it was actually pretty decent as a tank fascinates me
Poor green dinosaur
Since they gave Shiftry its Radical Red ability with Wind Rider in DLC 1, they should do the same with Meganium in DLC 2 and give it Triage. Maybe then it could actually do something
Meganium is genuinely my favourite Pokémon of all time, so much so that it sparked a lifelong love of grass types in general. Seeing the constant, overbearing, love and affection gen 1 Pokémon get just for the sheer fact of existing for three more years is always super fun and I don't at all hate it and there's not a hint of sarcasm in my voice right now I swear.
Meganium is one of many Pokémon ja got stuck with Leaf Guard as a hidden ability which is kinda depressing tbh
Ah Meganium, definitely one of the starters of all time
Here's hoping it at least gets a buff in the next Scarlet/Violet DLC like how Torterra got Shell Smash
I cannot forget when Meganium did it was just so how it could just
Hear me out, what if meganium’s buff was a signature move that was like giga drain, but 100 base power
@@thekoboldintheattic8587That's not enough. It's still slow and it's attacks are still low and move pool is shallow.
Maybe strength sap? Or dragon dance (it would be something)
@@tedbrouwer2831Maybe change its Hidden Ability to Triage or something
I've always wanted an Aroma based Ability for the Chikorita line. Like, Give Meganium Supersweet Syrup as a Dreamworld ability if you can't create an original one.
Or maybe a signature screen move like Aurora Viel, but in Grassy Terrain, because Meganium loves screens.
Or have that Spicy Scent flavor text from Bayleef's PokéDex entry be an actual ability, making the opponents swaggered upon switch-in, or maybe just confused.
There are SO many ways to buff Meganium that is in theme...
I’m just waiting for GF to give Meganium the fairy typing. Maybe for the next Legends game? 😢
Switch in confusion sounds disgusting I love it
@helios_is_my_name (Ooooh, maybe Spinda could have a similar Ability too!) I wish there were more Abilities that messed with status conditions in general. It's always just stats being changed instead of an Ability that forces you to prepare for status effects.
Unless you are playing singles, Status effects usually aren't worth it to go for other than sleep Amungus...
@chillcloak Fairy is a strict downgrade; swapping a bug (a bad type) from weakness to neutral for a steel weakness and 4x poison would make the Dino even worse.
Radical Red gives Meganium a nice buff - it gets Triage as an ability, and it gains Fairy typing. With access to Draining Kiss & Giga Drain, it will always go first to inflict damage & recover HP back itself which I thought was pretty cool. Plus, anything with Fairy typing is bound to do well at something lol
Stabbed dual draining sounds nice.
Meganium needs a fairy typing
And flower gift
That would really help it defensively but I'm not sure how much of a difference it'd make
@@xendra333More Tirage, this one would give high priority with draining moves.
@@MidoseitoAkageyeah radical red
I say a +3 in attack and +2 in sp. attack would be just fine and a +5 in speed. And yes broaden that movepool and Meganium would be competitive.....

Give her a secondary type(Fairy maybe) and some stat buffs. Also maybe new moves. She’ll shoot up to OU in no-time.
*Huffs a month’s worth of copium.*
@@erebuskaslana1583The harsh life of a Grass Type Pokémon: unless you are Ferrothorn, being a Grass Type cripples you more than helping you.
I think Meganium getting either Calm Mind/ Dragon Dance/ Quiver Dance/ Curse would've helped it a lot. And I feel like it getting a dragon secondary typing with thick fat/regen as an ability fits its theme well too. Won't get into OU or UU. But can fight for a NU spot at least
I'm amazed. I didn't think Meganium had any merit, but that it had such a potent debut generation. The fact it even defined the Bulky Grass Archetype is incredible.
I will never understand why people don’t like a green and pink flower dinosaur with cute little antennae :( it’s adorable!!!
From an in-game standpoint, Chikorita is by far the worst starter to use in a Johto playthrough because bad matchups for Grass are everywhere - even the first 2 gym leaders, Falkner and Bugsy, wreck it. From a competitive standpoint, Meganium doesn't have much to set itself apart from other bulky Grass Pokemon like Ferrothorn, Tangrowth, and Amoonguss.
@@chaosgallade2331 Yeah, Meganium sadly became the worst starter in all of pokemon for both an ingame playthrough, AND overtime competitively. Though all the gen 2 starters kinda need a lot of love competitively, not just meganium.
@@chaosgallade2331to be honest, although Meganium is the worst starter, people just mistreat it for any reason. Zard and the ugly ass Sceptile were never good before gen 6, they were respectively the worst of their gen, both not being good in their regions and people cover up for them. the same could be said with Decidueye, which I really like, but its stats are just weird and not balanced at all. But because they like these mons, it's fine, when Meganium gets hate for the same things.
@@furryfloofer8742who’s better to use Meganium or Venasaur? I like both
@@supercal3944 Venusaur is the best of the kanto starters now that both of zard's mega evolutions are gone, so venusaur is better to use.
Poor Meganium. It definitely needs a buff, maybe better moves or a new hidden ability that might actually make it halfway decent somewhere in PU or something.
I think they need to make it Grass/Fairy and give it a boost to HP/Defenses or a better hidden ability
@@Cynsham A better ability and updated moves at least. Something like Thick Fat or Rain Dish would be very helpful to it
In terms of design, I just wish Meganium had a long, sweeping tail. Half the beauty of Sauropods are the long tails to balance the long necks. Without the long tail it just looks like a weird grass llama
Yeah, same issue with Tropius that was fixed with Aurorus
That would play well for regional form or even a pardox considering some smaller sauropod have spiked tail as well
My personal favourite of the gen 2 starters, and it deserves so much better than it got over the years
Chikorita and its evos are my favorite starter, it's so sad that it didn't even got some buff for being viable...
I'm still proud of beating the first three gyms as a wee kid using strategy instead of brute force with my Carmencita
Im a recently became feraligatr fan but mad respect for Maganium for trucking through as the underdog.
Yeah, Meganium got the short stick. Feraligatr at least got Sheer Force.
Meganium is not trucking through nothing
Poor soul got left behind to rot
You didn't have to do Meganium like this... AGAIN😭
Fun fact: there is a hard mode in GSC, its called chikorita.
Have you perhaps heard the tale of the Meganium known as Mr. Stake the unkillable... the one who shook off a blaze kick and survived an ice beam...
MUUUUURRRRR STAKE!
i'm glad people still remember the heroic tale of Mr Stake that survived everything out of love for a trio of trainers that wanted him dead so hard
@@Artista_Frustrado it is a tale worth remembering.
I’m glad to see you revisiting and remaking some of your older videos again, FSG!
Can’t wait till we get the Typhlosion remake!
I’m curious to see what it’s Hisuian Form did for Competitive!
Changing it's HA like Empoleon did would probably be a good start to buff Meganium. Or buff Leaf Guard to make it more defensive/bulkier.
Chikorita was my starter as a 9 year old kid playing Gold for the first time and it will always have a special place in my heart. I still maintain that Meganium is the best-designed Gen II starter by a wide margin, even though it is so bad in battle
I played Silver as a kid, and chose Chikorita as well. I don't recall it struggling. Had so much fun battling with the green dinosaur.
I really hope in indigo disk like they did with shiftry, buff meganium with a new better ability to actually fix it and work with its aromatherapy. Or maybe in the next legends game if there is one to give it a viable regional variant, or maybe even give it quiver dance like how lilligant has the move because it already gets petal dance, i feel its entirely reasonable for it to also receive the move. Please for the love of meganium gamefreak just dont leave my blorbo high and dry like you have for the past 25 years
The thing is a dino, quiver dance makes no sense 😐
Considering how often new Pokémon get signature moves nowadays, especially starters in the last few gens, Meganium is one that desperately needs something. Maybe something similar to the just released Macha Gotcha? It also needs a new ability like maybe Arboliva's Seed Sower and then maybe it would function closer to the way it at least looks like it was intended to function.
Since GameFreak seems to be obsessed with giving all the starters their own signature moves, I suggest giving Meganium one that gives it a powerful option only *it* can use. My suggestion would be Petal Veil, a Grass move that can be only used in Grassy Terrain that causes all opposing moves to deal 50% damage. (Basically Aroma Veil but for Grassy Terrain).
At last! Meganium's a Grass Starter I genuinely appreciate. Really needed a larger movepool and so much more...
underrated? Not my first adjective choice
@@sagetmaster4 Humor me.
Woops, l replied to the wrong person with that, my bad.
Her movepool's pretty solid for a grass wall all things considered; Leech Seed, Synthesis, Aromatherapy, Giga Drain, Toxic, Protect, Dragon Tail... Spiky Shield and Slack Off would've been nice, but that's about all l can think of for her.
If anything, she more likely suffers from 4-moveslot syndrome and a lackluster hidden ability, and her HP could be higher too.
@@Brown95P It's alright. It happens and I can agree what Maganium suffered from.
@@Brown95P however times have gotten worse as BDSP ripped toxic away from it, and the removal of aromatherapy is just another death blow
also i don't see spiky shield working as it makes 0 sense thematically compared to it being on spiky grass types like cacturne and chestnaught
I actually saw a really interesting thread where someone suggested replacing Leaf Guard with Aroma Veil or Flower Veil, aswell as it gaining a load of supportive moves (that i can't remember now unfortunately). But it was very intriguing stuff and just sort of made sense. Not exactly massive game changing buffs but would give Meganium a boost in vgc viability atleast.
It wouldn't, it's a perfect example of an "all my friends are dead". You can literally gone Meganium while it's on the field.
There are also several AMAZING grass types fighting for usage in current gen.
It'd need a niche and it'd need a way not to be so easily ignored; it would legit need something silly like spore to even get a look in.
Can't edit on mobile for some reason: that was supposed to be "you can literally ignore".
Meganium is always my go to for a Johto playthrough, its always been my go to starter for Gen 2/4
well...good luck with that since it's deadweight
@@bulborb8756 it's never failed me yet
Im not sure who i am more upset with.
You guys for covering Meganium AGAIN despite it not receiving any buffs
Or GameFreak for not giving it some well deserved love.
Seriously, justice for Meganium. :/
We need a third one. If gamefreak did buff it
I love chikorita line so much, but the pure grass type and poor stats make it bad, i wish they buffed gen 2 starters by a lot
To make Meganium better give it chlorophyll, move some of the attack stat to the special attack. It gets earthquake & bulldoze so I’d give it earthpower. A poison move beside poison powder would be nice too
I absolutely love your videos! Never change! That includes the music lol
It is such a bummer to see such an awesome and adorable Pokemon plummet Into Obscurity, especially as and evolution to one of the most adorable starter Pokemon ever. Having said that, a special event gift Chikorita given the move seed flare just because, as well as getting a new hidden ability and either seed sower or grassy surge what helped it immensely.
I mean Meganium was a luminous Pokémon in new Pokémon snap…
That was neat.
🎩
🐍 no step on Snek!🇺🇸🇭🇰
I liked Meganium in Heart Gold. It seemed like it got some pretty good moves early. Feraligator is my favorite one, but sometimes I’d start with Meganium if I wanted to use Quagsire.
I use Meganium on Showdown National Dex, maxing defense with Giga Drain, Leech Seed, Protect and Substitute... in short, THE BEAST
This is why Radical Red pay some respect and love to Meganium by giving it the duo typing Grass/Fairy with the ability Triage which it give it priority with draining move such giga drain or draining kiss. Seriously, If Game Freak has finally give shell smash to Torterra, Meganium need the ability Tirage. That wouldn't push it to higher tier, but it would have something.
It even has the flower necklace like Comfey.
It's kind of a stretch from the lore perspective (TBF it's a cute grass type that's kinda big on healing, and Fairy is associated with it), but damn if it doesn't make it unique and viable in its own right. It was a genius idea.
its still awful in the radical red competitive metagame
poison types exist, especially with the loyal trio now
I think you mean Triage, not Tirage.
Also Grass/Fairy would not be good on a defensive mon like Meganium; one extra weakness in Steel and a x4 weakness to Poison *_on top of all the other Grass weaknesses_* for just two resistances to Fighting/Dark and an immunity to Dragon? Not worth it.
Recently I wanted to test the limits of my masochism so I did an all grass run of HGSS and my god..using this thing is a pain in the ass.
The starter that not only sucks in-game (Grass hate is everywhere in Johto), but also in competitive (just use Ferrothorn, Tangrowth, Amoonguss, or even one of the Decidueyes for a bulky Grass Pokemon). I've seen a bunch of theory crafts that try to salvage it, whether it's giving it more moves or a secondary type like Fairy. I doubt that Terastalization can salvage this when there are better candidates.
Grass fairy with some unique moves with make it a good option over tapu bulu maybe, like recover, leech seed, and spore and tje fairy typing would make it decent
@@tomgorey9294
Except Grass and Fairy literally have no defensive synergy whatsoever, which is what Meganium needs the most.

It was said in the video, but seriously regenerator would be a nice buff for Meganium. Probably a new move or two I imagine.
Spiky Shield would be gucci alongside Leech-Overs, Slack Off would've been great pre-gen 9... l think she already gets Toxic? l don't see what else she could get as a defensive mon move-wise though.
@@Brown95P toxic now is pretty much exclusive to poison types with only a couple exceptions, and meganium didn't have access to toxic in BDSP, meaning that'll carry over to gen 9
and honestly i think regenerator is more deserving for swampert
Seems like too easy a fix. Let’s get more creative than that.
Triage grass/fairy Meganium goes hard in Radical Red
Inclement Emerald has really cool changes for the Meganium line. They get the Triage ability as a hidden ability, secondary fairy typing, fairy moves like draining kiss and moonblast, and earth power.
Genuinely the first time I ever said I want to choose Chikorita.
I'm replaying Colosseum and I chose Bayleef as my Johto starter. I knew it wasn't nearly as good as Quilava or Croconaw, but I figured maybe it would surprise me. And it did!
It surprised me how bad it STILL is even with that low expectation.
Ohh boy can’t wait to see how Meganium gets absolutely *BLUDGEONED*
I’ve picked the grass starter in every Gen except 2, where I picked Feraligatr. I’m part of the problem 😔
This is why I love draft league I can actually use my favorite Pokemon as my teams bulky grass type with dual Screens, phazing in Dragon Tail and Leech Seed to keep it from being passive. Would love to see an new Hidden Ability or moveset buffs like Quiver Dance and Earth Power.
Well, time for my favorite starter to get roasted. At least we'll always have Mr. Steak
Meganium having a genuine niche in gen 2 OU is awesome
I love Meganium for it's amazing support when my party was at it's weakest. It provided so much free exp to me in gen 2 after I chose Totodile.
Meganium gets the ability Regenerator or Grassy Terrain, 10 to DEF, SpDEF and HP, and gets a custom move I call "Ivy Wall" that gives dual screens and Safeguard effect while Grassy Terrain and/or the Sun is out.
Ever since gen 2, I've wanted Meganium to be better than it was - especially for a new game playthrough. Unfortunately the move pool was just never there; grass isn't a very good offensive type to begin with and Meganium was given anything more to work with
not only is grass quite poor offensively, it's also one of the worst defensive typings in the game
Please, GameFreak. If there’s any Pokémon that deserves a new form… it’s Meganium.
Nah, let’s give Charizard another form, meganium has too much gamefreak pandering
Way too much, which is why I'm glad that Crystal Legacy finally got released, making it usable in a normal playthrough.
Meganium was always my favourite gen2 starter, even if I put the most time in a playthrough I started with Cyndaquil. Chicorita, Bayleaf and MEganium are just cute, fluffy and peaceful in stark contrast to the badass and aggressive designs of Feraligatr and Typhlosion. Also; I always had a soft spot for grass pokemon
Okay, crazy idea here⚠️I would suggest a signature grass typ move that works like Geomancy boosting its Sp. Attack, Sp. Defense and Speed by 2 stages but with NO charging in Sun🌞. So you got yourself a little dinosaur Xerneas. 🦕
And maybe some nice moves like Weather Ball and Earth Power.
And Leaf Guard could actually be useful when setting up in sun.
Please do a therom video that explains the impact of field condiotion (entry hazards, terrains, weather, trick room, etc)
I’m sick of meganium slander sometimes 😢 but this is a good video 👍
I was already planning on using the Chikorita line when the second DLC drops, any recommendations on Tera type? Ice would boost def in snow and allow it to hit flying for SE damage. Rock would give it a sp.def boost in sand and hit bugs and flying. Fairy would give it a surprise immunity to dragons while it phases them with Dragon tail. Fire synergises well on a sun team.
Maybe someday, GameFreak will make a regional variant of Meganium that’s Grass-Fairy type with the hidden ability Pixelate.
Honestly Since Typhlosion got regional variation I hope the other 2 gain a regional variation someday
Feraligatr (Water/Dragon)
Meganium (Grass/Fairy)
Perfect typings
Grass and Fairy literally have no defensive synergy whatsoever, and that's what Meganium needs the most.
Do you guys think the "disappointing" is new, and here to stay for a while, or just specifically for Meganium?
I've always had a lot of love for Chikorita and Bayleef, I think they're my favorite first stage and second stage of the Johto starters, though it always falls off at Meganium who is least favorite of the final evolutions (my favorite there is Typhlosion with the Totodile line having a comfortable second place the whole way through.) 15:54
Give it 10 more points in Special Attack (if Swampert can have a 535 BST, every starter should)
Replace its Hidden Ability Leaf Guard with Flower Veil (on evolution. Chikorita and Bayleef can keep Leaf Guard since they haven’t bloomed yet)
Give it moves like Pollen Puff, Calm Mind, Earth Power, Dazzling Gleam and Body Press. (I think it could also do with Psychic coverage, but idk, that seems like more of a stretch)
they never have given stat buff's to starters, and i doubt they ever will
Meganium may not be competitively viable, but she definitely won our hearts and thats all that matters
I think it's so funny how much the Chikorita line aged liked milk to the point so many people force themselves to pity it by making up stories like as if it was part of their childhood even though they played the Crystal/HGSS games a few weeks ago

I could feel the buildup leading to this. Legit was shocked to hear it was the best of the 3 in Gen 2, but the rest makes sense lmao
The biggest things I can think of to make Meganium better are
1. Stat Boost like you said.
2. Add fairy type to it. Its not a perfect solution, but Fairy type and the moves and such that come with it could help a bit.
I've always picked the grass starter since I was 9 years old and picked Bulbasaur in Red. The Meganium line has been one of my absolute favorites because it was always a surprisingly solid all rounder in my Gold playthroughs despite the type disadvantages against Team Rocket's poison types and the gyms.
While the New Pokémon Snap gave Meganium it's day in the sun, I hope a future regional form like H.Typhlosion will breathe new life into it, perhaps a Grass/Fairy?
Honestly I'll take a better hidden ability and some movepool updates either way. Grassy Surge would be amazing, but Thick Fat or Regenerator would be nice too. While I don't expect much improvement for it in the coming SV DLC, Pokémon Snap atleast gives me the faint hope that it's not forgotten.
Make Meganium Great again.
Step 1: Boost its HP stat
Step 2: Triage or Grassy Surge
Step 3: Give it a Signature move that lets it do what it does best. Set Seeds.
Step 4: Floral Healing.
And Finally
Step 5: Give it actual Coverage and Pollen Puff.
Any hope Meganium has now is getting the empoleon treatment when it arrives in gen 9 with a new hidden ability and good moves. I cross my fingers and pray they'll get Triage along with strength sap.
I remember back in gen 2 two times i picked chikorita then went on a solo run, one with Alakazam and another with Dragonite, both times chickorita/bayleef just sat in the box. Even if they do increase her stats she still probably wont see any usage as her roles are filled by better pokemon. Swapping Leaf Guard with something else like Regenerator would be great and we have just seen Empoleon get a new Hidden Ability in Teal Mask so giving Meganium(or anyone) a new one is not off the table. If anything if they make a new Legends game have Meganium as the grass starter as then they can do a bit more than just stat adjustments and Ability changes. New type, HA and Stat shifts similar to the Hisuian ones.
Meganium now gets trailblaze and swords dance which makes it actually threatening its NU rn actually the highest its ever been in ages
Man, can’t wait for you guys to do the big bad, the cruel crusher, the heart stomper, toe pounder, sling slashing, all-Alolan Maniac monster of them all: Incineroar!!!!!
Love how the outro is the same from 6 years ago. Maybe when you hit a million you'll update it.
The Sinnoh Starters got a buff in S/V so fingers crossed for Meganium
I remember suffering from this mon from one of those romhack with challenging(I have no foundation in competitive Pokemon) AIs who have legitimate competitive teams. It ran as a very bulky stall mon with moves that enabled self recovery along with how the other mons in that AI's team also synergized with it. Lastly, they changed its typing to grass/fairy which made it even more annoying
That chuckle when you said "big crash into the ground" is simply contagious.
Meganium is slated to come back in the Indigo Disc with the other starters not in SV yet, so here's hoping it can get *some* kind of love then.
Meganium's gonna go hard in ZU oml
My best memory of Meganium was during PBR, i raise one to counter physical attackers:
*Open with it, my oponent open with Scizord.
*Used U-Turn, Meganium, Focus Shas trigger on Meganium
*Scizord switch out to Charizard, Meganium used couter, charizard dies XD
I Raise it with that specific role in mind and it paid off at the first encounter, i was SO HAPPY of my lovely Flora :)
I wonder if Grass types could be better walls if they had a couple more resistances, such as to Rock and Fairy, maybe resist Psychic too (how are mind attacks supposed to be effective against plants?). I'd give Meganium an Ability like Thick Fat to help it with Fire and Ice weakness, and a better move pool.
My favorite buff I’ve ever seen given to meganium was in Insurgence I believe. Grass/Fairy with Triage like that’s genuinely all it needs
Cant wait for the rest of the gen 2 starter remakes
