  • Do you want a top-notch/high-quality audiophile-like speaker cable? Do you know you don't have to spend $$$$ to get the most out of your audio system? Well, then you found the right video! I'll be showing you step-by-step how to make a speaker cable starting with all the supplies you'll need.
    I spent weeks looking into speaker cable. What type? How long? What brand? What price is reasonable? Should I spend hundreds or a hundred on 100-feet of cable? What gauge is best? What type of banana plugs? Of all the research I did, what I used I found to be the best of the best (without spending unnecessarily more money for no increase in quality/value). I would have spent more, but it wasn't necessary. Plus, the predetermined lengths of cables felt too expensive and didn't seem to have consistent reviews in terms of performance/quality. Building it yourself ensures you build it how you want; plus, you can choose the materials you use. 12 gauge speaker cable is certainly overkill for short runs, but it offers less resistance than thinner gauge cables. So go with whatever gauge cable suits your needs best, or don't overthink it and go with 12 gauge!

    Nice cable build. I just picked up some of those Fospower banana plugs and they seem to be decent. The part I hate most about doing cable builds is forgetting to clean up those snipped off wire strands and getting them stuck in your feet. Metal splinters hurt! Also, when you said "Audio Alcoholics" I almost spit my coffee all over my monitor.

      That's gonna be a lot of cables! Make sure you give yourself a lot of slack (trust me you won't regret it). I wish you luck though, take your time, make sure you have the proper equipment and you [ideally] should be golden!

    Are those screw on ends metal? If so sooner or later they will touch. Moving a speaker or what not.

    Great video. Thank you. Would the braided sleeving, cable pants, and banana plugs work if using 10 gauge wire?

    • @ELITEkickBOXER
      @ELITEkickBOXER  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you. For 10 gauge wire, you're going to have to get different supplies. The banana plugs I used are not rated for 10 gauge. The Y-boots would probably need to be a mm or two larger to accommodate the 10 gauge diameter. Everything else should be good. You can certainly do this with 10 gauge wire, you just have to make sure everything can accommodate the 10 gauge. If you buy from amazon and something doesn't fit, hopefully you can just return it.

    Good work! But why noy to use a red shrinking tube between the ''pants" and the +ve banana? Two black shrinking tubes connecting + and - bananas creates confusion for a quick inpection of correct phasing. The minuscule red ribon in one of the bananas is not enough and do not gives a clear and quick view...

    I would wrap a piece of electrical tape around the end of the sleeving to stop it fraying and slide easier into the pants...

    It's not just about quality conductors within a cable, which btw as well as medium to high volumes they will also help the audio to sound better at low volumes too. But it's actually the quality of the shielding that makes the ROOM sound quieter (noise floor) In fact the last group of cables I shielded just happened to be my HDMI's and low & behold the room became quieter yet again. 🥳

    I just use 12 gauge Cabtire soow .Good enough

      You sure that's enough copper? I was thinking 00 AWG for my new setup. :P

      @@JonnyFlash80it all depends on the distance and wattage .VxI = W .If you can get 10/2 cabtire at home Depot it will be good enough .Your ears won't tell the difference but a computer pick it up banana plugs do not make for great connections .Spade lug is the best way next to being soldered in place

      @@JonnyFlash80I run 2 10 ft #12 AWG for an adcom GFA 555 mk2 and a pair of 8 ohms speakers ..No problem and I use Fork lugs rated for #10 AWG .No banana plugs ..Won't make any more difference by going to a heavier gauge .If I were to run 2 in mono I would go to #10 AWG at the same distance .You can go up to 30 ft easily between amplifier and speaker with no loss .Remember you can short the end of your cable and measure the resistance of your cable to see how much loss you have through resistance
