It'll depend on satiety and satiation. The most important metric is total energy intake. Better to have 1,500 calories a day with 50 grs of fat a day, than 2,500 calories a day with 10 grs of fat a day. If fat helps to be satisfied with less food go for it. If it doesn't and you end up eating the same total, or worse adding on top that's when cutting fatty foods makes sense.
Should we restrict nuts and seeds if we have some weight to lose? Once we lose the required weight, then we can add some nuts back, would that be accurate?
In defense of McDougall and Esselstyn: McDougall said eating a handful of nuts is fine - unless your trying to LOSE weight then stick to low caloric foods. Esselstyn never addressed weight loss. His main concern has always been protecting the endothelium - so he recommends minimizing fat which can damage the endothelium.
There are some people who still get heart attacks from consuming a plant based diet high in plant sterols and plant stanols, it's called Sitosterolemia and it's more common than people think. Dr. Fred Kummerow knew all about fats, lipids and phytosterols but people who had no Ph.D and no credentials and no qualifications in nutritional biochemistry such as Dr. Atkins, Pritikin, McDougall, Ornish, and Esselstyn had no clue about anything for over half a century and now they don't have the guts to admit they were wrong.
Nuts and seeds also have the FIBER content where oils don't. I put olives in a food processor and wiz them up. THAT goes into the my EVOO It's like unfiltered olive oil right out of the press..Great taste!! I use very little oil and when I do use olive oil, it's the oil/olive mix U use
Nuts and seeds gave me atherosclerosis..one handful each day only. I also got hbp. I regressed some of it by stripping overt fats from my diet. I never ate oil or sugar. I was never overweight. So that data seems harmful if it causes people to eat nuts and seeds.
The "data"? Your anecdote with a sample size of n = you. Almost certainly you are just looking for patterns while ignoring other causes (genetics, denying something about your diet, or you are a statistical outlier).
@betzib8021 please share of you would, what did the rest of your diet consist of In a day normally? Did you subscribe to any particular diet/food lifestyle, I.e. vegan? Keto? Carnivore? Vegetarian? Nutritarian? I’m asking as I’m vegan and following Dr. Fuhrman’s protocol and eat a good amount of nuts, seeds, avocado & EVOO every day with each meal. Thank you!
@loribakergirl6438 I hope you get this. You tube often does not post replies. For 30 years I ate oats...w almond milk...fruit...whole grain bread ( no oil or salt)...raw salads ( mustard and vinegar for dressing) ...tofu...nonfat dairy yogurt...sweet potatoes. I drank green tea and coffee. Then I heard the Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn story..so I dropped yogurt...and though he cautioned against nuts...I also heard Dr. Fuhrman...so I added nuts and a little avocado. Before I heard Dr Furman I had had occassion to have imaging of my heart and arteries. They were clean. Then for 12 years I ate one handful of nuts and seeds each day. I dropped the yogurt. So I was vegan with nuts and seeds for a protein source. At the end of 12 years I had hbp and imaging showed systemic development of athersclerosis. I stripped out the nuts and any avocado. 2 years later imaging showed some plaque regression. Never did my total cholesterol rise above 150. Never did my ldl rise above 70. Never was I overweight and my blood sugar has been stable in the normal range. Now i listen to Dr. Peter rogers. He is crazy in areas of social and political arenas I think. But his medical lectures are brilliant. I wish I had listened to Dr. Esselstyn's advice years ago and never touched a nut or a seed. Data is interesting...but when it comes to oneself...the only Dara that matters is your own.
@@loribakergirl6438 hmmm... Dr. Fuhrman does not recommend EVOO also, his recommendation for amounts of whole food plant fats is fairly modest, listen to this video carefully
Thank you! 👍 Important question and excellent answer. 👍👍

Yes, McDougall said to stick to lower caloric foods while trying to lose weight. After that, a handful is fine. Just don’t eat the whole jar!

Most store bought nuts are roasted in oil like French fries and coated with salt. So, be cautious.
