It's "only a car," but if her phone were stolen, it'd be a different story. Her entire _life_ would be gone. Never mind the fact the phone costs a fraction of a car's price. I wonder why the girl had no concept of the value of a car? Holy cats, by the time I was six, I was aware the most valuable items my parents owned were the house, and following at a pretty fair distance was the car, and trailing far behind were furniture and stuff.

Someone inexperienced tried to do this in the middle of the night, but couldn't get our Kia started. A few months later a crew of pros managed to get it done midday while I wasn't looking, a little bit before the 4th of July so they could joyride and shoot fireworks from it.
They hit another car, thankfully that driver was ok (even though they did try to take legal action against us) and ended up totaling our Kia and leading to MONTHS of struggle and financial hardship at an already hard time.
We learned through all of this that the reason these cars are so easy to steal was these companies just left out a part that literally only cost a couple of dollars.
The most heartbreaking thing....we only had one payment left on that Kia. Our first ever non hand me down car.

As someone who has had their car totaled in an accident... It's a nightmare process to be made whole again. Not only does it take time to get the money from the insurance company.. But then you have to consider that if you had a car payment all of that money has to go into paying that off first. Even if you're lucky enough not to have a car payment, the insurance company doesn't just give you an identical car. They give you the approximate value of the car and tell you good luck in getting another one. It's really stressful to get a new car and the time you're spending shopping and trying to find something you can afford, you're out a car. If you're dependent on your car to get to work or if it's part of your work.. That's going to impact you.
I know that these kids are young, but the fact that no thought has been put into how it hurts the victim is just painful. It's like assumption is that the insurance company just magics you up an identical replacement.

What annoys me, is that we got so use the calling teens ‘kids/children’ that they now feel like they can get away with shit like this. I remember being a called child was an insult, most kids would try really hard to adult up and act right. Like we were eager to do better to get a better image. We'd still be treated like kids, couldn't make choices, or do much and that was great! Wild childing with moderation and most of us lived to tell the tale. Kids these days don't even acknowledge themselves as kids, can literally demand for things to go their way and play it off with a "I have anxiety disorder" 😢 "I have social anxiety disorder!" -as you blast up a chat on the phone and around you. They are the original Karen's, one tantrum means they can get what ever they want. There were a few girls who killed their friend and sacrificed her to Slenderman, or tried to. They didn't get much punishment cause they're kids. You want to kill like an adult, get punished like an adult. Wanna throw wet crumpled paper at the ceiling like a kid, get punished like a kid. Huge difference and people want to pretend the line doesn't even exist. Already got a few children, teens/literal infants trying to get gender surgery cause they're old enough for that now. Parents went from parents to being your bff they don't help much.

Ok there's alot to unpack here. We do charge teens as adults, depending on the crime.we dont for every crime since children's brains are still developing. You lack the medical and legal knowledge to make these determinations. Also other countries don't incarcerate half their population for profit. So no, they dont treat kids as adults in other countries. Unless you want to use Saudi Arabia et al as examples for the type of justice system you're advocating for.

I live right in between Buffalo and Erie. And let me tell you, shit here has been fucking insane. I went up to the mall with my friends to go dress shopping, and got caught in a shooting. I had to watch mothers with their toddlers run for their lives. Eight-year-old boys run for their lives. A mom holding her baby running for her life. A child hiding under a table terrified and confused. I watched as my best friend fell to the ground, she looked utterly terrified. I remember calling my mom and telling her I love her. My exact words? “mommy, I’m scared, I don’t know what’s going to happen to me. I don’t wanna die mommy. Please save me mommy. I love you mom I’m so scared” I heard as my mom started screaming over the phone, terrified and distraught remise safety. I had to go quiet for a second, and I heard her on the other line screaming crying thinking something happened to me. Hearing her scream “ she’s not answering I can’t hear her anymore, I think something happened to her, I’m so scared” was the fucking worst. We had hidden behind an industrial sized trashcan. I witnessed the whole thing, it happened in the food court, and I was about 10 feet or so away from the whole thing. It was traumatizing. I get PTSD every time I hear a loud bang noise. I get brought back to the thoughts of watching children desperately run for their lives. Things here and Erie and Buffalo have not been OK. Erie high got shot up within the first two weeks of school, a young boy about eight years old, was walking out of the barbershop after getting his haircut, and sadly got shot intentionally by a group of teenagers driving by. I keep hearing these stories of car theft, and shootings. It’s become so common here. It makes me incredibly sad, because Erie wasn’t always this bad. Erie is currently dangerous to live in. Shootings, Car theft, robberies… It sucks. I pray for the family of those poor teenagers. I pray for the family of that mother. May God rest their souls.

...Not really? Teach your kids risk assessment. Its literally the parents fault if the kids were stupid enough to get in the car with someone INTENDING to drive recklessly. Its not like we never did it as kids, it still happened. Know how many wrecks I was never in because I was like "nah, I'll be wayyyyyy the fuck back here on this one mate"... then watched my friends roll a pickup in a field? (Note, this was South Dakota....a lot more crazy shit is probably done there as far as hazardous driving is concerned...I guess opting out of idiotic scenarios was more prevalent for me) Actions have consequences. All actions should have risk assessment. "What is the worst that could happen if I do this?" "How likely is that thing to happen?" "How likely is a bad thing but not the worst thing to happen?" "What do I gain from this if NOTHING goes wrong?" "What is the _BEST_ thing that can happen if this goes well?"
Even in the best case scenario, "The passenger in the car that was stolen and driven around by an underage kid very stylishly" never blows up with fame, even if in some great miracle, the driver did. Actions have consequences. Parental neglect was the action in this case.

How is bad parenting suddenly the car manufacturers' fault? Why is there no law suit against TikTok or China? Or the media who themselves explain exactly how to accomplish the theft as they "tell" people don't do it, which is as useful as "don't look down".

Because they don't have immobilizers and it doesn't take anyone with any skill are smart to figure out how to take apart in ignition and remove the tumbler. I worked as a mechanic at Hyundai for 3 years this has been a very common problem I can't count how many times a car would come in to get the ignition replaced or body repairs done
