For what it’s worth though, they both have a vested business interest in making an apology seem as good and sincere as possible. At the end of the day; this is basically PR work.

I looked into making bread from my own kitchen and just to do that, [thinking, its JUST bread!] while following the cottage foods guidelines and whatnot is a lot of work. It's not impossible; it's pretty straight forward. But you do need to self-regulate and be Super conscious of everything you do. You're in your own home, you may stick the spoon you just licked back into a pot of sauce you're making for your family, but not want to do that for your neighbors. To make "cottage foods" you almost have to have an entire separate kitchen, all utensils, appliances, equipment must ONLY be used for your business purposes. The space itself, kids can not be present during production and No animals/pets, Ever in the area. All states are different and some require you to have an inspection by a health officer.

She literally contradicted herself in her "apology" video. She said she was going to refund all customers for their orders, then tried to ask people to hold onto their orders while she works things out.
The video prior to that she said she was going to show the licenses she has, but then she comes out and says that she's working on even acquiring a license.
Also it kind of ticked me off that she was downplaying everyone's criticisms to "hate comments" and asking people to be "nicer." If you're doing something illegal; regardless of whether you realize it or not, that could potentially harm people, no one is going to treat you like a kid and "be nice" to you, they're going to be strict and firm and tell you that what you're doing is wrong and that you need to STOP. She is not some 14 year-old middle schooler, she is a grown adult and she needs to get it through her head that people are going to treat her like one. Her saying she "wasn't trying to hide" is very unbelievable for me since she blocked and deleted LEGITIMATE LEGAL AND HEALTH WARNINGS and even tried to reupload SOMEONE ELSE'S VIDEO to keep the cash rolling in.
In my opinion I don't buy her apology at all, and it just sounded like all she got was "hate" for it when that wasn't the reason at all, and she was just making excuses.

Fish, yeah, don't eat that while you're pregnant, but you can have coffee in moderation. Especially if your body is used to it. Cut down on it and don't drink too much, but I've heard from a lot of women that their doctors okay'd it in moderation. Obviously, you never can tell where fish has come from, and the risk about fish is different than coffee. Bacterial contamination vs too much caffeine. Cut down on coffee, but don't risk fish. Just do what is suggested for you. Everybody is different. Listen to your drs and do what they think is best with knowing you. Also, yeah, only stupid people go on water slides while pregnant. That's like an obvious nono. You really only can do a lot of sports if your body is already acclimated and used to it. In fact, if you're an athlete they highly suggest that you do continue physical activity. Obviously be cautious and going on a fucking water slide is an obvious do not. Like, just wait 9 months or a little more and you'll be good to keep doing fun stuff. It's a matter of your child's life or death. I think you can wait 9 months, Sharon. Though, yeah, I don't quite understand why you would order pickled shit online. You obviously never know just how lax they are on contamination and canning seals. There are edible things you can order online from reputable establishments that taste just the same if not better and guess what? Don't cause you to get sick and die. Yeah, supporting small businesses are important, but uh, not at the risk of your health. Human stupidity is the leading cause in death. That's a fact that's probably written somewhere.

Amazing how history repeats itself, but part of me thinks that because tiktok is so broad and so many people "blow up" on it makes me think that maybe she legit wasn't aware of pink sauce. I hadn't heard of pink sauce until you covered it. There's so many niche sub sections on tiktok that harbors these dramatic and dangerous acts, like improper goods handling. It's massive and insane. Part of me thinks she genuinely doesn't know, but another part is like wow, how are you being so ignorant??

  • @amandaleighplans

I find stuff like this so fascinating. Particularly the part where she immediately responded by saying she had proper licenses, which was a lie. As much as we chastise her for that being such a poor decision, I almost feel like it’s human nature in a way? I’m sure there are people out there with excellent integrity and humility but I feel like a LOT of people when faced with thousands of hate messages would feel that shame, embarrassment, anger and jump to being defensive. A lot of us react to being called out (even in personal situations) by being defensive. Then later we (hopefully) realize we were wrong and regret our initial reaction. It takes a mature, self aware person to be able to immediately handle things correctly. It is incredibly difficult to go through massive amounts of online hate and many of us will never know what that feels like. That said, this should be a serious lesson to people to STOP and get in a logical headspace before immediately jumping to defend yourself out of emotion. To clarify, I am not defending her at all, she is an idiot even if it was just naivety and potentially harming people, that’s serious. I just find influencer culture, internet culture, and reactions to massive amounts of hate super interesting. People will literally get on and LIE out of emotion, even if logically they know it’s not the right thing to do. And then often deeply regret it… had she put out that second video first being humble, admitting fault and ignorance instead of lying initially, she could have maybe saved her business.

I love pickled anything! Eggs, veggies, sausages and spicy cucumber pickles themselves. That being said, although I’m sure her intentions weren’t sinister, I’d be leery buying ANY homemade food product from Etsy or elsewhere that wasn’t a licensed food service. I wish anyone well in their small business endeavors, who doesn’t love a good success story.. but when ppl are advising you that something might be potentially wrong with your production and you merely block ppl and ignore it rather than investigating those claims then it starts to look like greed rather than the well being of your customers or rightfully backing your product bc you followed every protocol.. just saying. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Let me just add, her apology seemed sincere and I hope she’ll be able to get back on track.

Her home made products is probably just for the community like the pink sauce lady. When it blew up, people all over the place is now ordering which is now the problem. You know, transportation, the heat, time needed for delivery those things can accumulate germs and bacteria pretty much. I think if she only "kind of" privated her sales like, "for this area only," there wouldn't have problems. Both for this gal and the pink sauce lady.
Why am I saying this? Here in Ph, we also have a lot of home made products from raw meat to customized cake. However, most of the things that are REALLY home made are sold within the community only. No transportation required, just simple meet up face to face because the seller is like one or two streets away. The "possibilty" of this being contaminated is low unless the preparation and cooking itself is contaminated.
TLDR I think her sales just suddenly blew up overnight and she got over excited from the rush of order. Therefore, she wasn't able to think if she's prepared for that kind of success. The good thing is she took accountability and in a better situation right now.

@@konaqua122 Nah this is not a case of someone that only made stuff for her local community. She's been selling her pickled foods for several YEARS on Etsy. Which means she's for several years she has been selling and shipping at least nationally within the US. I really can't understand people that open up a business online (selling food especially) and not research into proper safety guidelines, precautions, and legality dictating the selling of such goods.
