A lot of teachers decorate their classes with things that they bought or own. The school doesn't provide much for them in that area. So yea, it's probably hers. I'd be pissed.

I was a teacher and had to pay for literally everything in my classroom. I understand that teachers frustrations and she had every right to be upset about $5 clock because that’s HER $5 on top of everything else she paid for that’s at risk of being stolen. Please give teachers some

I have a teaching license that I'm not using. When I was student teaching, I gave my everything to teach those kids. I was so excited to help them learn. They sent me home crying multiple times and insulted me on a personal level. They refused to take tests and don't care about getting a 0.
I can't do it. After that experience, I've lost all confidence in myself and I'm terrified of my current job as a graduate/research assistant. I'm so legitimately scared of the idea of having to go teach when I started off so excited for it.

Don't be dumb and pay for things you shouldn't have to. You already make a median income of $63K, which is more than enough to live comfortably. Cute decor is not mandatory, and if your school refuses to pay for things that should be covered by them, find another job, take it to court, or something other than just accepting it.
Honestly, involving the authorities is probably the only thing that might stop this. Handling it within the school is nothing to someone who is willing to do this. What are you gonna do? Suspend them? They don't care.

our schools sent them to juvie and parents paid restitution. Getting a court ordered bill makes the parents care.
We teachers pay for like 80% of the stuff we have in our rooms.
The schools only provide basics & then parents buy basic school supplies.
Everything else that makes the room colorful and engaging all comes out of our pockets.
Most teachers spends hundreds each year.
Bring it up to your bosses. Get a petition started to fund classroom flair. Make it a tax right-off. Do something.
I always wish I could help my kids teachers, I’m a single mom now so I’m not so well off just yet, but I’m working on it! I fully intend to be that parent that sends extra supplies in so the teachers don’t have to buy so many when I’m able too. Y’all don’t get enough credit man. My middle son was a huge jerk at school the other day and I felt so bad for his amazing teacher.

Everyone who's done a devious lick at our school has been made fun of and called stupid asf. No one thinks it's funny. Someone stole a sink and now we only get 1 bathroom and a teacher sits at the door. I will say it's weird tho that my school has had fights, sex and smoking weed or vape in the bathroom and it takes tell someone steals a sink to lower our number of bathrooms?
It's cause while the other things aren't great, the school, which has limited funds as is, now has to pay to replace the stolen items.

I work for a school board, in the facility services, here in Canada… and we were told to start locking down bathrooms when any vandalism starts. This has been a rule before this trend, last year we had only 2 bathrooms open in one of our high schools because of this. Basically the point is to make everyone struggle cause of it so they start weeding out the ones actually ruining the bathrooms. It worked and 5-6 kids were charged with the damages to repair the bathrooms, one of the marble sinks you see in older schools is 10k just for the marble so it really cut down on all this bs.
Back in my middle school, we had a similar challenge in my 8th grade but instead of stealing it was vandalism. It started with one person spray painting a bathroom stall and escalated to someone destroying our library. Some things never change and kids are still dumb af

If so that school is pretty relaxed. I remember growing up teachers would have thrown a fit, if I brought in inappropriate logo's like Budweiser lol.
At my school we have a PA system like most but ours is a little different where you can respond to the person announcing something. So let's say if somebody got called down to the office they would ring the rooms PA ask for them and then the teacher would usually say "okay I'm sending them down." We had a similar morning announcement about devious licks, our principal was going through the if you get caught spiel and one kid yelled something like "you'll never catch me!" They immediately stopped the PA and the principal came to escort them out of class. Geniuses all of them.

So not only do they get in trouble for stealing from school, but they also get in trouble for sluttering up too much and asking teachers to watch without even thinking twice.

It’s not funny or cool, it’s annoying. We’ve already had our restrooms closed for an entire school day because of this stuff. Especially with covid right now taking essentials like hand soap/hand sanitizer dispensers or tissues not only makes it difficult to stop/prevent the spread of germs, but it makes it more difficult for us to go back to “normal” and stopping the spread of covid within schools.

The sad thing is, the idiots stealing AirPods are prob not even broke, like I’m sure 95% of the people stealing AirPods and shit like that are from wealthy enough families that they could just ask for them for a holiday or something. Back in high school I new couple of people that stole chloroform from the science lab. They would go around and cloth other student and themselves to see if they could make them pass out in passing periods. This was in 2001. It was pretty fucked up, they got me once and I was pissed. I do not recommend this.

Funny story:
I live in the UK and my school was aloud the *certain disease* vaccine and some kids thought it would be a good idea to an extreme devious licks video.
They were going to fuck up the toilets mainly and spray paint the cameras (Like all the cameras in the school)
And two days before they were gonna put this plan in place, there was an anti vax protest that happened and resolved in us going home early on Thursday, not coming in on Friday and having our vaccines the following Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (with parental consent) and, since no one was in the building for about three days, some people, some adults, some teens, went into the building and destroyed the place.
Now, cause most people in my year (grade) were aware of the devious licks challenge and what they were going to do, but no one thought they would follow through with the plan and didn't snitch, we all thought it was them. Until one of them showed the group chats saying the dates when they were going to do it, they just got suspended.
No one knows who done that to my school and it was like a week ago.
Lucky, they didn't do to much damage but spray paint but they could have done worse, and what's worse is that they could have done something while we were they.
And ik that someone will think how did we know it had something to do with the vaccines, but they spray painted on the walls how they are killing us and how covid isn't real.

My wife is a teacher and she often finds herself having to buy certain items for her classroom, including a lot of books for her classroom library. So if that gets stolen, it would come out of her pocket. Not everything is bought, but quite a lot of things are.
At my old high-school we never got funding so the teachers always had to buy classroom supplies and just about everything for the classroom so I feel so bad for them now I can't imagine how bad this trend would be there
The teacher will be broke after buy new supplies, the school will shut down because they run out of money to replace things, the parents waste more money to get their kid to a another school, all the teachers losing their jobs, and none of the kids who cause this will never get caught, so yeah your school will be fucked of this happened back than.

An example of the struggle schools go through: My high schools clocks in the classrooms were from the 1980's and only were repaired a couple of times up to when i was a freshman in 2017 and after that they stopped repairing them due to low funding so many teachers bought clocks for the classrooms until the school gets digital ones out of their own pocket which clocks are expensive nowadays. Luckily no one was ever stupid enough to steal them or anything in our school for that matter.
My son's school sent an email about this but I had no clue what his principal was talking about. Then I watched this video. I have nothing to worry about though. My kid knows better.
My friend told me about these and I was like" What the fuck would you do with a water fountain?!?!"

Student walked into the crime. Poo smeared all over the wall in the mens bathroom saying fuck you and hand smears.
The search for the criminal begins. People suspected other people. Friends, familys ripped apart.
Finally they single it out to 2 suspects soon to find the culprit. He takes a week off and it happens during. He got his brother to do it to take the heat off of him. He decided to step in his brothers shoes and continuing the tradition.

The money for those repairs or stolen items will be taken from your learning supplies, after school activities, art classes (includes music, photography), technology in the school etc. You kids doing this, the ones who are stealing are actually only stealing from your future. Yeah, I heard from someone that a classmate stole their teachers MacBook and she was absolutely devastated and cried when asking her students to please give it back. I actually filmed a fake devious lick. Essentially I was cosplaying as James from Team Rocket and I took my pikachu plush out of my bag like "haha finally got that pikachu", but I never posted it. I'm not sure if it's ok to post it since the trend has gone this far, like is it even ok to parody this? Also I'm afraid that I'll just make it worse by spreading the trend even if my video would be a harmless joke.

This trend caused my high school to close down most of our on campus bathrooms and only allowed some to be open with teacher supervision because we can’t be trusted.😑someone literally broke a sink and took a chunk of it.
Tbh this doesn't surprise me. In middle school there were kids at my school who were trying to get a mass fight started so that there was a lockdown. These idiots thought it meant that the school would be closed down and we'd get sent home early.
Nothing happened thank the Lord. I remember panicking cause I was a small 11-12 year old and the fight was rumored to happened basically in front of where my locker was located.
Edit: don't know if anyone cares but some students parent called the school and a ton of kids got in trouble so it couldn't go down. I got blamed for being a snitch since I was quite open about being against it. I dont remember if I told my parents or not, but I do know I wasn't the snitch. Regardless...I didn't like these kids anyway so them being upset at me didn't really affect my life. They didn't turn into bully's or anything at least.

I had someone steal my jacket, I left it on a bleacher for practice and forgot it for a bit then it was gone when I came back, I asked the janitors and the lost and found if they’ve seen it but it wasn’t there. It wasn’t even a nice jacket or anything, it was a hand me down and way to big and not aesthetically appealing. The only reason I brought it was because it’s water proof so I can wear it over my swimsuit during breaks.
imagine if one of those kids in the future end up in court being accused of some sort of theft when they’re actually innocent, but the lawyer of the opposition brings up “theft of government property back in high school” , that might not help their innocence
Teacher here: This was the same year that we were also putting up with constantly shifting COVID-19 protocols, hybrid learning, asynchronous and synchronous learning (often simultaneously), and 10-day quarantines at each positive case in a classroom. There was also the "slap your teacher" tiktok challenge that year. This was the cherry on top of a horrible year.
We had a bathroom stall door stolen from our school. HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN? A few soap dispensers, hand sanitizer dispensers and wet floor signs. Even a teachers chair.
Update- rumor has it a desk was also snatched
They moved the paper towels and soap outside of the bathrooms for that reason, my history teach got his stuff stolen, someone stole a whole ass white board.

What I've noticed most students are about 2 years behind as far as social maturity, 9th & 10th graders are about the same maturity as they were in 7th & 8th grade. Most juniors, and seniors kinda act like normal humans. That 2 years of lock down really messed up our kids.
As a junior in high school, I definitely agree with this. The freshman and sophomores at my school are very immature.
During the 27 years I was a high school teacher, you so do not want to know how many hours and hours I spent on restroom duty. Usually during state testing, but plenty of other times as well. Also, most schools that have cameras have some pointed at restrooms just because of all the stupid things kids try to do there. Like fights, smoking, doing drugs, having sex, etc. I would tell the kids that if they absolutely had to do something stupid, feel free to go do it at home.
Kids doing stupid stuff is just... traditional. Thing is, when I was their age, we didn't film ourselves and put it on the internet.

There is nothing traditional about this behaviour. There is acting bad and stupid, which is traditional, and then there is this which is just down right being a horrible person and a pathetic criminal.
I graduated a few years ago and this never happened. Heck I even hung out with the "bad kids" and they all knew better than to destroy school property like this. They may have carved things into desk and stall walls, but they never down right destroyed the whole fucking bathroom.
No generation before me normalized this either because it is one of the stupidest things you can do.

So apparently at my school, all the bathrooms except the ones by the cafeteria are being closed because of this trend
We actually got an email about this trend from my son's middle school. He's in 7th grade. October's challenge is to slap a teacher. I swear to God kids better not follow through on that. My son knows if he ever participated in any of these challenge he will be more scared of me then the cops.

Seeing this go down from a distance (I’m not in school, no kids) has been very interesting. I can’t claim to know anything about child psychology but I’m wondering if this has to do with stress from the pandemic. Society has been under so much pressure, and school is such a huge part of your life as a child and teenager. They’re rebelling by destroying the structures around them because they don’t have control over anything else. They resent school, teachers, and the whole messed up world (not to mention the internet clout/attention aspect). And so in their own small way, they are challenging the system that they think is the problem.
This is a super interesting perspective. I've really been wondering about the generation transitioning from teen to adult right now. I feel as if alot of them who couldve been perfectly mentally healthy are going to sufer for the rest of their lives and nobody gives a crap about them...
Thank you! I agree; each generation goes through unique circumstances but this is the first pandemic in a century and we are definitely going to see some unique effects down the line.

At my school the new “trend” is to get ahold of a video of one of the kids stealing, with your best friend and turning them in because my school offers a money reward and usually the friends split the money

At my school, someone stole the toilet seats off of the boys bathroom. Now we need a ‘signing in and out’ thing so the school can keep track of who goes in the bathroom and who goes out so if anyone steals something they know who it is
I’m all for people stealing from corrupt and money hungry school administrators but like why are you stealing from underpaid, over worked, teachers? Like the crayons you just “licked” your teacher bought with their hard earned money trying to teach you. And then they spent that money on you to make your school experience easier/better? Like what, your just clowning on yourself.
I agree with you, these teens are just getting worse or maybe we think it’s getting worse because they’re videoing themselves doing it instead of just taking it and bragging to their friends.
Reminds me of when my high school first switched to uniforms. They USED to have every Friday be a free day, where you could wear anything you wanted (you know, within reason / guidelines), to have a break from the uniforms. Some girls decided to wear super slutty low cut shirts and shorts on the free day. Thus, the free days were removed. Nowadays, you have to pay to dress casual and it's only on certain days.
That sucked for a last year xD But prime example about that 1% ruining it for the rest of us.

I have this extremely annoying condition where I would generate tons of mucus in my nose and it changes consistently depending on condition. One day i was down bad, my sinuses was acting up and everything. I had no choice but to get tissue an just stuff it in my bag. I have know idea why in the hell I had to be born with such a thing, and I tried to get the teachers to help me out with the tissue thing but they were fed up and weirded out. Doctors said I would grow it out, but its still lingering around.

And thats not even my greatest achievement, in my opinion. Lol, I was soo surprised that it helped me actually talk to people outside my head 😅. If legit, that honestly sounds like allergies. Like possibly severe allergies, that heavily effect your sinus cavities. (source: personal experience)
So many educators actually buy recourses themselves - even tools for their students, toys for childcare etc. A lot of it is bourt by the educator and not provided by the school / centre. Now I'm not too sure about America but in Australia this is a huge issue, I've been studying to work as an educator for 2 years and this is something we have been taught thay we probably will do for the benefit of the kids but will only cause more issues bc the school / centre will just think it's covered and not provide things. So the trend is just making educators jobs harder than they need to be.

As a former educator: People are more mad at students stealing things (which already happens), then they are at the underfunding of schools. Also highlights admin response to a stressful situation. So we don't have air pods what's new? I just ask not to destroy my classroom though. I bought most of that shit, but hey. Don't buy things for the class if you think they're not going to get lifted

Year later out of school and I still remember that the school bathrooms soaps were all stolen from both girls and boys bathroom’s. It cost a lot of stuff to go down.
Man when I was in high school 2011, the weirdest and craziest thing that ever happened was that we had a broken vender machine, the glass wasn’t on and every morning we came to school filled with chips and candy. Barely no one took it because well duh, we don’t know where it came from. But whenvwe the school would empty it next day filled back up.
Even when they finally just threw it out, outside in the trash it was filled AGAIN with my candy and chips it became a meme at our school and to this day we called it “Vender Gander”

I've joked about it. I'll grumble when, upon getting up from a crouching position looking for something at the grocery on the bottom shelf, I found "THAT" sound coming out of me (Everyone over 30 knows this sound. The grunt and 'ugh' that gets ripped out of you without realizing you are doing it until you hear yourself make it) and I'll joke. But by god, this did it. When my husband and I spoke about this and the general consensus was a "What the HELL is wrong with children today?!?" was made, a silence filled the room as we realized what we had said. Teens are now viewed as children in both our minds. Someone please go get me an afghan, my knitting and leave me in my rocking chair to yell at the neighbor kids to get off my lawn, I think it's all downhill from here.
