    I’ve wanted a Domino for a long time but just haven’t had the money to get one yet. It was gonna be the knife that I asked for from my fam at Christmas this year but I wound up changing my mind at the last minute and going with the Hogue RSK. I have no regrets in that though because the RSK has been in my pocket nearly everyday since I got it. It’s just an almost perfect EDC IMO. But next on my list is definitely a Domino, especially now after hearing how much you love it. Great video brother. Thanks.

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The RSK is a great knife too... both are definitely must haves in my opinion. Thanks bud👊

    That is interesting. I really like geometry. I have a Chaparral that is 0.012-0.013” behind the edge. Those are probably some of the best cutters Spyderco has made. Supposedly, Spyderco made the Nilakka very thin, but I haven’t found the numbers. If you want geometry, checkout Manly knives 0.007-0.008” behind the edge on their 12C27 and S90V Wasp model knives.

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, geometry cuts:)) I did have a wasp actually... I ended up getting rid of it because I don’t find myself carrying slip joints much, so it just never found it’s way into my pocket, but it was an excellent slicer.

    • @LuisGonzalez-gl4wc
      @LuisGonzalez-gl4wc 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      InThePocket You are right about that. Their Peak model is not a slipjoint, but maybe too large for some, it is around the same size as a Spyderco Endura.

    I love my domino. Thin good flipping, good ergos. It is my fav spyderco general carry ( some tasks do better with a larger knife). On Michael Christie’s tests the 204P underperformed his expectations, I have not had a stress test on the edge retention as I tend to strop after much use.

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Me too, and I agree... Yeah, I’m not too surprised by that, and I think it will do okay in Gerald’s testing, but it won’t do what the composition would suggest.

    I usually take a small rounded file to the sharp thumb holes and smooth them out then I roll up a scotch brite pad and gently twist it in the hole to smooth out the burs. Always works well.

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I pretty much do the same thing when they are too sharp, and it does work well👍

    Excellent review as usual. The Domino has been around for a long time. Your review is a testament to Spyderco's longevity as a master tool maker. I appreciate that Spyderco offers a multitude of closely related models as there is something for everyone! Your want an over jimped handle or a smooth one, they have it, if you need a 1" or 4" leaf shaped blade, they have it, just pick your steel.

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks buddy:) yeah man, I agree. They do a good job at giving different options in a similar style. I think they get a lot of flack for it, but honestly, I think it’s a great way of going about it.

    I would take xhp instead.. Especially with CF/g10 pattern laminate.. Hopefully it will prove to be nice and you have numbered version.. I have 4 knives 168V witch is owner of equator knives here in Jakarta.. I noticed this numbered versions are always perfectly finished.. And this is no exception.. Beautiful knife ,perfect grind and one of best ergonomics in entire Spyderco line up.. Enjoy it Kenny

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would too Marek:) I love my Xhp cf version, and it is done well, but definitely not perfect. Although, I got this used, and the original owner put a very low angle on it. It is also not a numbered one. It has a 12 dps secondary, and I think it was still around 17 thou bte👍 I am very happy with it, and looking forward to modifying it with a micarta scale, and probably some anodizing on the ti scales😁 thanks Marek

    • @marekmasar5216
      @marekmasar5216 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@inthepocket7405 I'm sorry I again commented before knowing you ordered xhp version.. I just love this knife and I don't own it but I own Dice in same "dress" witch is smaller brother and it's even thinner bte I think.. I think both models ( I handled domino) has one of the best ergonomics in Spyderco knives and I really enjoy XHP.. I have 3knives in this steel (reground Slysz Bowie,Chaparral From and Dice).. If I will modify my dice I would put marbled CF on it.. It should be relatively easy as there are no nested liners.. Thank you Kenny and I'm sure you will make it even better (more yours) than original...

    Great detailed review...not sure about the price though. I do like the fact that it has such a thin grind...to me that’s everything.

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Mick. The price has been varying a lot, that’s why it was tough to give a definitive price, and the different versions vary. The cutting geometry is definitely where it’s at, and this knife has it in spades.

  • @RFord2
    @RFord2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    It’s a great knife. Manix quality ergonomics is a more “Socially Acceptable” size. Perfect EDC size for me.

  • @timbo4374
    @timbo4374 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've thought of getting one myself. May just do it. I like the idea of a thinly ground Spyderco. As you mentioned..wish they did more like that. Thanks for the review Kenny..I enjoyed it. You may have talked me into buying one. Question is..blue 204P or Red CF in XHP? Not a fan of the red, but I DO like XHP.

    • @inthepocket7405
      @inthepocket7405  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think you would be disappointed Timbo👊 Yeah man, wish they would... Of coarse buddy:) that’s tough man... I’m sure the red carbon fiber looks better in person than it does in photos, for example, I like the black Cosby sweater scale way more than I thought I would although I am still going to make a micarta scale for it. I would prefer the Xhp I think, but I don’t think you could go wrong either way. There are aftermarket micarta scales available out there, and John Runyon (kmeuser) has a pretty sweet scale on his.

      The chaparral and maybe the sage have thin blades. Their feel is not solid like the domino though.

      It’s all good man... that’s probably a good thing lol I have heard that too, and I haven’t gotten any of their knives. Their retail price, and shipping on all orders has always deterred me. I like the Bento box blue, but I just got the Xhp one, which Spydercos Xhp is great, and I’m just going to make a micarta scale. Of coarse man
