I'm a GNU/Linux freak and I can't believe it's really possible to tune my ECU with open source software. And I just checked it, the ECUFlash Windows software works with WINE! Woohoo! This is a new beginning for me. I think the Cobb is a waste of money now that they got rid of so many features from it.
I've started Honda ECUs reverse engineer since middle of May 2022, and I'm learning a lot. I've met great guys who share the same love to Honda ECUs. I have Honda J35Z2 5A/T in a Nissan Sylphy/Sentra B17 and I like this car a lot. I learn from it a lot, ecu reflash included. And I've been helping friends with their cars. Being able to protect my tunes from being read over OBD2 port is very crucial. I wanted to be able to track them myself. I'm glad I was a game addict that I spend too much time with computers, I'm able to do that now in all Honda CANBus ecus that's not Bosch. A bunch of guys including me are able to change stock map sensor now. My next goal is to fully understand how Honda DTCs work. I'm not sure when I will be able to do that. Too bad Honda stuff haven't been shared in the community. Everyone has been making money without contributing one bit, and that makes me super sad. Until the community comes together for Honda. Then may be.... we all can share stuff together, and I will do the same. I would hate to just share what I learned and have people make profits from it without sharing it further. Only if it's as open as Subaru open community, I wouldn't have to do this. This will be the first thing in my life that I will keep it to myself, for now. Until then, brothers and sisters. Great content as always!
And I'm sorry if I've put the bad atmosphere here by venting what I've been feeling all these months. I really wish that the loves for Honda could have been more than this. Much loves!
I am an evo owner, but my area of expertise is IT infrastructure. I am familiar with computers, and plus I share your love for cars, but I am more into Mitsubishi. Nonetheless, feel free to message me and if I can help on anything I will be more than happy. Agree too, on your take about people making money and not contributing one bit. I still have TONS to learn, but I am happy to share whatever I can and contribute
I agree with the honda stuff, too bad people see greed and dollar signs.. its amazing honda ecus like the 02 rsx era has not been open sourced and those ecus are over 20 years old! If hondata can do them why not anyone else.
Don't forget the good old piggy back ecu that we used for a while and we all thought they were so awesome but now we wouldn't touch one with a 10 foot stick lol but I remember installing and turning many many things like greddy e-manage setups UTEC's on Subarus among others that I just can't remember right this minute but I remember how much of a leap forward they were for a short while and then reflash based tuning showed up and kicked almost all that stuff to the side lol Damn I'm getting old lmao
Not sure if you’ve covered this before, but can you simply zero out or cancel out those tables covering the fuel pressure/ stutter issue if you’ve gone to an aftermarket fuel system to make life easier? If you would do that how would you zero out or cancel out those tables? Thanks for the content and consistent help to the DIY and Tuner community 🤙
Glad it helped! It's certainly a bit easier to watch than to then do, but like anything the more you learn and the more it all makes sense to you the clearer it becomes 😎 Takes a bit of time but it's a rewarding task and skill. Enjoy! - Taz.
Talking about the G4 Knockblock reminded me that you've mentioned in a previous video you'd revisit the TunerNerd Knock Monitor Pro when you were more familiar with it. What's come of that?
Can you make a video show how to tuning for gain power, HP, KW, but control/maintain the torque low or at certain point. This will be good for the car with CVT and others not robust transmissions.
Thank you for sharing everything you do andre! Just ordered evo scan from a kiwi, waiting on the cable. Couldnt see how an old impreza was feeling with my scanner which doesnt speak ssmI9? See rom raider and look forward to learning more!
Great video and tutorial! Very well detailed! But aside from Mitsubishi's and Subaru's lineup of vehicles what other popular brands does the openport 2.0 and ecuflash work?
"In general, EcuFlash can reflash a much larger number of cars than there may exist XML definitions for. This means that you may be able to read and write from some cars, but not edit anything until a XML definition is made by Tactrix or someone in the larger OpenECU community. Often the current release of EcuFlash does not have the most current XML definitions in existence, and you may need to visit community various forums to find what you are looking for." Not the answer you were hoping for I know, but it's the answer I have via Tactrix's resources - Taz. www.hpacademy.com/technical-articles/what-cars-will-work-with-ecuflash/?
1.What if I am not lucky and cannot find a definition for my ROM ID how do i go about defining it? 2. How do you add it to ECUFLASH if you found a definition?
In some cases yes, but it's case by case really as it's more than someone just adding more to the software, it depends on the ECU itself. GM are a platform this is often done in off the top of my head, not using EcuFlash though - Taz
While the car eventually got a MoTeC ECU, Andre here tuned his FRS/GT86 using EcuTek after turbocharging it. EcuTek is a bit more focused on their tuner network than end users using their software these days though so not sure if it's still an option or not, but it's a popular platform so I'm sure a few others will pop up too. It is quite possible EcuFlash will work too, it's just not something I have used firsthand on an FRS so off the top of my head I can't tell you for certain, but a bit of digging will get you an answer I'm sure. Sorry I couldn't be of more help - Taz. www.hpacademy.com/technical-articles/reflash-tuning-solutions/?
Does anyone have a solution to read/write and identify maps on a Zexel? 1998 3.2d Nissan Elgrand, similar to Patrol and Terrano 2.7d. qd32eti engine. Looks like a Zexel version of VP37. I can't find anything in Europe and I need to tune one
It depends what you are tuning. COBB and HP Tuners both support some European models, as does EcuTek although they are more focused on commercial users these days. From there, again, depending on the specific vehicle there are some random options out there before you land on the likes of WinOLS - Taz. www.hpacademy.com/technical-articles/what-is-winols-can-it-tune-any-car/
Wish the focus rs was easier I have cobb have paid lots of money and 1st motor blew up now 25k later don't seem right and no answers. I have my license for cobb tuning and on dsm platforms I'm good but focus rs not even trying. Any advice
I'm going to explore every option I can ever since Cobb essentially bricked half their devices, including my entire flex tune setup. I don't really want to go aftermarket if I can help it since I'm still subject to emissions. I don't personally tune, but my shop does, and it'd be a great day if I could convince them to use a software like ECUFlash to tune my car so it makes all the power but still passes DEQ.
Unfortunately one of the downsides of free opensource software is the lack of support (since no one is being paid to sit beside a phone). Your best bet is to try some forums: www.tactrix.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=67&Itemid=62 You will really need to sort whatever issue is stopping you from using RomRaider too. I'm assuming you don't have the right system for it? Note that don't need a very powerful laptop for tuning, but it does need a Windows OS: www.hpacademy.com/technical-articles/tuning-tools/? Sorry I couldn't be of more direct help. Also, if you are an HPA member, you can post on our members-only forums with some questions around this, but I wouldn't sign up just to do that personally. Most have access because they are taking this course as well - Taz.
@@hpa101 for romraider I guess I need windows 32 bit. I'll see if I can find an image for it. As for ecuflash I seen someone had a similar issue and flash the ecu with the different definition and obtain the ability to see and edit maps. A stand-alone is a far stage of development.
I think you will be able to get things up and running without the need to go to a standalone just yet. Fitting a standalone ECU will come with its own issues/work to get up and running too anyway. RomRaider supports 64-bit, you must have an old version. Have a nose here: github.com/RomRaider/RomRaider/releases Hope that helps - Taz.
There's a bit to unpack here, but first off, I'm really sorry you feel that way! We don't release full courses, nor for all the awesome free content we do put out there is it the same as having a course on hand, for life, with all the topics laid out in front of you. In your case you have the step by step process of tuning with ECUFlash which goes well beyond this introduction, and anything else we add to that course you also get for free, the same with any other HPA course you own in the future. If you still feel this is a issue for you and you have not gotten value from your course, fire an explanation through to support@hpacademy.com and I'll see if we can help further to put your mind at ease as I do my best to be factual but I know that can come off like we don't care about you guys and your learning, but we do, and it does upset us to see comments like this when we're just doing something we have always done for you and the community which is different to having paid content - Taz.

Should I be able to zero out those tables?
This platform is nothing new, but many people are new to it. Just like when you learnt to drive some other fella and fellaresses had already done it many years before you, but that doesn't mean knowing how to drive isn't something you find pretty handy and nor are they all sticking their hands up to teach you =) If you are already up to speed on ECUFlash that is great though, even 20 years on it is still a solid choice for a number of models and it has evolved a bit with time as well which has been great to see - Taz.
Just started watching but thought I would ask. Is there any way of reflashing ECU control for CVT transmissions? I find that they can tend to go to a high ratio too early which causes the engine to fall off its torque curve and become quite unresponsive. Obviously the manufacturer must do this for fuel economy but it makes the drivability pretty poor at lower speeds.
Not sure off the cuff sorry Trav, that would be a vehicle specific question rather than having software to tune any CVT setup out there, in which case the answer would definitely be no as not everything has the same support in the aftermarket and not everything is setup the same to be adjusted the same way when it comes to software - Taz.
