It is astonishing that there's still room for V6 in there. I get the feeling you wouldn't want to have to work on it though. Not a lot of room in there. Good thing it's a Toyota engine.
@@trustyoldiron5416 Right! I say keep the room for the V6 rather than the people with legs! 2+2's are really just for little kids and as a package shelf anyways. But yeah, all mid and rear engine cars are a bit of a faff, might as well be a reliable lump, which it is. Underrated.

what's wrong with that? Toyota make great engines. in fact Toyota can make an engine anyway they want to as they have phenomenal engineering capacity. nonsense. they are one of the most reliable v6 engines ever built. if your friend is having problems I can guarantee they are not related to the engine block. Toyota are one of the few companies that still engineers stuff to last. Toyota do not make "cheaply built" engines. they are cheap because of economies of scale. this engine gives good torque and hp, excellent mpg has an excellent reliability record, it is light, it's very easy to service and get parts for and can be supercharged easily. This car is well worth it's price! My ex rented one for me for 24hours for my birthday last year! This car is awesome! Definately a head turner, EVERYBODY were looking at us, we rented a fine hotel with a valet and everything, and the guy was like "your car is a one-of-a-kind!". Definately an awesome car!

Joel Geisinger The block itself won't do it, the sound is from the exhaust head and onwards. I did not say muffler or catalytic converter, I said exhaust. The block is just the solid part of the of the engine, it is no more acoustically apt than you
I remember watching this as a kid when it came out on TV 12 years ago And when the concepts were announced before then and this month I bought an Evora s for my 24th birthday present to myself. It's a very special car and a great package. It's nice to have a car that makes kids go wow . Steering is great, the suspension is magic, it's rare but not obnoxious. Oh and it makes an amazing sound I love it 💓
+Shobin Drogan The fit and finish of my Elise is excellent. No creaking no groaning or inexplicable vibration noises. Sounds like the gear shift are all mechanical and to me a joy to hear, shilklak shiklak. I name my sports cars after planets, my Elise is called Saturn because she runs rings 'round everything else I've owned.
Great video. Love the host. A lot of hosts for the Evora videos I've been watching are awful when direct to camera. This guy is honest, entertaining and has a great sense of humor.
It is extremely comfortable, almost unreal. Once you're planted it can be a car that you can take on a 10hour trip with extreme comfort. I used to have a clk55 amg and believe me, the lotus is more comfortable. When I have the seat all the way back I cannot reach the pedals so leg room is ok. Head room is also perfect. It is a very "personal" car and when you have two people in it they are almost touching each other. I have the 2+0 config with no backseats as it should be.
I looove Lotus Evora! It is third on my top-10 dream cars list right below Pagani Zonda Cinque and Koenigsegg (any model). I love the fact that it looks so much like a Koenigsegg both exterior and some details in the interior. The Lancia Stratos-like windshield, the carving on the sides which is similar to K´segg´s air intakes, the headlights, the exhaust tip on the S model, the diffuser, RWD, mid compact engine, lightness, the dual AC air flow vents, meaty exhaust note and so on...everything reminds me a lot of a Koenigsegg. I have been dreaming of owning a Koenigsegg since I was 9 years old and first saw the CC concept, I am 18 now and when I first saw the Evora being revealed I became super excited. I saw the possibility of owning a car some day which is much like a Koenigsegg, the Evora´s price tag is relatively low and used ones aren´t much more expensive than a new Volvo these days! The really nice thing about it is that it is also seems to be a great car from what I have heard, like this video shows, with great handling.....or maybe even the best handling of any car. It has won driver´s car of the year awards by several magazines all over the world including my country where it won the award 2013 leaving Porche´s and Ferrari´s in the dust. There is so many great things about this car, the fact that it is made out of plastic composites means that it never will rust even if you use it in the winter, which is not recomended with any enthusiast car but still possible with this one. And the last thing is the economy which is so much better than any other car of this calibre which I can come to think of, with good fuel economy included. Good job Lotus, looks like you really know how to make pure driver´s cars which also looks the part at relatively low prices. Greetings from Sweden!
***** People that can afford those usually give 0 shits about fuel. The world still has plenty of gas left anyway. The average population will probably switch to some other resource before the fuel runs out letting those cars keep running. Not to mention Teslas are still slower than their competing sports cars and only have the advantage of a being electric. So far mainly California is the only place with easy access to the charging stations while the rest of the country and world have yet to have them readily available. Same goes with hydrogen fuel, which I personally think is better as you get economy and power.
Lotus have done it again with the new Evora 410. Its a fabulous looking car and truly is a class above its rivals ( IN MY OPINION ).this super car can be used more as a daily driver than the soft top Elise. Im just waiting for a soft top version of the 410 now and ill be very happy. a truly stunning car in every way, much better but different alternative to the german marks.
The looks of the Evora have grown on me, but the Turbo Esprit was a masterpiece of automotive styling, a solid rival for Pininfarina's best designs. The Evora isn't in the same league.
So true the esprit turbo with a fat V8 was a very special car looked amazing I could go on even more about it but I will finish with James Bond drove one I don’t think it gets much better than that shame I’m piss poor and will never be able to have a fat Esprit
This car is my dream. It's luxurious showing off, it's as fast as I want or need, it's light and easily controllable, and most of all, it's the most gorgeous machine I've ever seen.
Thanks to Motortrend we can go back and watch any episode of top gear, I took your advise Jeremy and bought a 2021 Evora GT sight unseen, the closest I’d ever been to a lotus was on the television, I drove across the country to get it and it was love at first sight, My only problem is I own 7 other cars, cars most people would pay good money to just sit in the passenger seat and I haven’t driven them since I got this car, it is amazing and I’m glad I’m now a lotus driver. Cheers my friends!
I’m late but that’s a glorious exige in your profile picture. I always wanted one in white or black but it looks like a car the devil would drive in red
“My torso … well it’d just become a big bag of mush” Legendary - Jeremy is such a wordsmith! What a spec, I’ll have a Lotus Evora in the stable. No doubt about it.
That is a damn gorgeous car. If the driving experience is as beautiful as they suggest, I wouldn't bother too much about the numbers. It's a piece of property you have to live with, not just a spec sheet on wheels. I could live with that car quite happily.
***** Well yes, the v10 in the Gallardo and Huracan is an Audi engine. But the v12 in the Aventador is still a Lamborghini engine. The v12 has been around since the 1960s. It was first used in the Miura.
Stevan Stojanovic, I'll let you know a little secret - McLaren P1 (and every model in their lineup) uses the same petrol engine that was originally designed by.... Nissan.
@DarkLightOX exige is a two seater, t-top meant for driving. the evora apparently is a safe family car that can be used for going to work, groceries, etc..., therefore, the exige is lighter and more agile, thus to drive but more limited in the versatility that the evora has.
The only disappointment with this car is that they didn't do a turbo version with 400+bhp. Then they would have had a true replacement for the Esprit turbo. And if the standard car can lap the same time as a Gallardo spyder, imagine what it could do with 400bhp and a few tweaks!!! :-O
I cant speak on US per say, but there is a fairly well established Lotus dealer market in Canada, and I have been seeing these Evoras much more frequently than I had originally anticipated. It looks like they are doing quite well over here.
I've had my Lotus Evora S since October 2012 and although the dealer network sucks and I've had a few issues, it is by far the best car I've ever owned/driven. The interior/exterior is flawless and the handling is simply amazing. It's kinda of a pain to drive as a daily driver because getting in and out is a mission and it does not help that I'm 6'2. I've kept up with later model Porsche turbo's from a roll and the raced a stock GTR that put 3-4 cars on me from 30-120mph but this car handles.
Top Gear (& Clarkson) is so much better when they do this sort of thing...i.e. real car reviews as opposed to the cocking about they do now. Please Top Gear, stop alienating your real long term fans & start making a proper car review show again...just look at the popularity of the drive network & Chris Harris. You can be funny without resorting to childish features.
I just got an Evora "S" in Phantom Black and it is the best car I have ever owned. It's a 2011 model where they upgraded the interior although they did more interior upgrades in the MY12 model. The car is amazing in every aspect and I will post a video on you tube soon. The handling is better than a MY13 Porsche 911 and it definitely feels quicker. The looks alone are worth the price tag but I got a sick deal on mine. Everywhere I go I attract crowds and I live in the city of exotics, MIAMI.
After soundly spanking an Evora with my 12 yr old S2000 the driver was a true gentleman. Truth is if he didn't have a passenger ( I was alone) the outcome may have been different. Very refreshing and just the way it used to be, two guys having fun with their cars, both appreciating each others ride and comparing notes after a fun drive.
This Car is like a German Shepherd. It's adorable and nice as well as brutal and vicious and aggressive when needed but it's always obedient. It always does what you order it to do and outclasses all competition. And as the German Shepherd is the most versatile Dog Breed, the Lotus Evora is the most versatile car. It is practical enough for most people, it's comfortable, it performs amazingly, it's properly quick, it's decently economical, it's reliable (thank you Toyota) and it's not too expensive. I can't think of a car in that price range that does all that and does it so well. Does it have flaws? Yes. Do they matter IMO? No, they don't. Honestly, if I had the money, I'd buy it right now as I'm writing this comment.
As a proud Lotus lover, and owner of a 2008 Lotus Elise SC, Jeremy Clarkson summed up all lotuses perfectly; *_"handling by telepathy"_*. *That's 100% true, Lotus's handle better than any GO-KART I've ever raced even, you have to pretty much INTENTIONALLY get them break grip (which is fun), but when they do, THEY HANDLING DOESN'T LEAVE! I swear I can steer just as well with the throttle as I can with the steering wheel, which makes some creative ways to go faster. Forget Porsche's, Mini's, Evo's, and GTR'S, there's no way they can outdo a Lotus in handling.*
because the Elise and Exige had very stiff suspension. I've driven the supercharged version of both and its not a car I'd recommend on any trip longer than 20miles and the seats are not as comfortable. I had the pleasure of driving the n/a and supercharged Evora and its easily a car you can daily drive for the next 20+ years, and its very comfortable and you can drive it on long trips without getting annoyed or tired.
The Lotus Evora is beautiful and my dream car. They already took care of the power with the latest Evora S, which is supercharged and has 345 horsepower. It's the perfect car for under hundred thousand. If I had the money I'd pick this in a heartbeat over any other car for less then 100grand. Especially cause it's so rare, it's not huge like the GTR (I don't like huge cars),and it comfy enough to be a daily driver.
Who needs more than 160 miles in real life streets anyway? The handlig is amazing, quick enough. I saw one yesterday and my jaw dropped. It is really a beauty
Looks like a copy of a Pontiac Fiero, or what one might have looked like by now, if they hadn,t dropped the Fiero. Matter of fact I"ll take an 85 Fiero, re-power it & will dance circles around this thing. Lotus it seems is an ersatz coach builder, as they cant make their own engines.
Ricardo Ellison It really doesn't look like a Pontiac Fiero, but ok, whatever floats your boat, and if you just revived a Fiero I highly doubt it would/could compete with a well built machine such as the one here in this video.
Indra Ida Bagus I was comparing the similar idea of the two cars, small, short, low to the ground transverse mid-engined engines.Unfortunately, Fieros' had been given the dregs of engine choices from the GM line-up, guaranteeing a disappointing resultant car. Those Fiero enthusiasts who abound, have seen fit to retrofit far far better GM engines assuring superior performance in a small & fun car. Such engines fitted to Fieros shame current "musclecars" & their ilk. Too bad GM didn't want their "Star", the Corvette shamed by the tiny Fiero, so they pulled the plug.
BEFORE ANYONE HATES ON LOTUS EVORA'S after watching this please bear in mind that this is the launch edition of the car which has teething problems. The current evora s has been developed based on the feedback from the launch car and is much bette. And also remember that lotus's are all about highly engineered chasis's that offer a brilliant driving experience as well as comfor. They are one of the best in the game at chasis/suspension developmen and the fruit of this is in the handling/comfort.
Jeremy Clarkson will praise any heap of metal with a British heritage. That is the point I was trying to make. The Lotus are still a very poorly made, low quality, under powered want to be race cars IMO. Lotus builds coaches and nothing else. This plastic toy cannot stand up to an Audi TTS (also a 4 cylinder) by comparison. Top Gear will gladly slams the 2016 Corvette Stingray Z01 and but praises this toyota camry enough said.
mercytoday top gear reviews were more on the politically incorrect side of things, Clarkson was a bit more serious in the old version of Top Gear. Also, it seems like you haven't driven any Lotus to that matter yet, and let's say a fantastic sports car doesn't need 5869 bhp or luxurious interior, balance and handling is all you need. Also making a claim Toyota engined Lotuses are pieces of crap is a pretty bold statement, you reckon?
I have driven the 2007 Lotus Elise, the underwhelming engine, poor build quality, body gaps everywhere was enough for me to not buy it, I chose an Audi 3.2 TT (Non Turbo) and never regretted it. Lotus is very average car ( I am being generous here) but love has no logic and I understand people liking it. But the review is partial, inflated and not grounded in any fact. Clarkson is only making excuses for this four banger from Toyota. I owned a Scion TC, it was a good car but not a sports car just like this poorly made plastic car.
1:47 For some reason the sight of the evora prancing through a meadow is just so adorable.
Charles Earle I think the music helped here
The car is properly Gorgeous and the music plays a big part in it.
That little Lotus grin gives it an extra nice touch
The headlights and the grille

yea this is basically an NSX
Agreed
But it is British
nsx but with a much shorter wheelbase but i agree good point
has the days of „lots of trouble usually serious“ long gone for lotus?
its the only midmounted engine sports car from toyota.LOL
Extraordinary packaging.. Managing to make it a 2+2, with a mid engine, a big trunk/boot, and still keep it light.. The Evora is underrated.

Nissan.
Lambo's V12 have existed ever since they made tractors.
McLaren's V8 is from a Nissan Group C prototype.
The Evora 400 is AWESOME.
Reminds me of the old NSX
They need to review the new Exige S... best road Lotus ever.
whats the name of the violin piece played
Do you already know it?
Perpetual mind william kingswood
@DarkLightOX exige is a two seater, t-top meant for driving. the evora apparently is a safe family car that can be used for going to work, groceries, etc..., therefore, the exige is lighter and more agile, thus to drive but more limited in the versatility that the evora has.
50k for that car? I dunno, seems right fair. Love the lines, and it handles like a dream, apparently.
How many sets of rear tires were hurt during the filming of this episode ?
B is for build anyone ?
Heck yeah
Owned one of these for a number of years. Great little car
Sold??
@@philipclock yup. A few years back
B is for build brought me here
Lotus have just made a gorgeous new factory a possibility Nice 1
The only disappointment with this car is that they didn't do a turbo version with 400+bhp. Then they would have had a true replacement for the Esprit turbo.
And if the standard car can lap the same time as a Gallardo spyder, imagine what it could do with 400bhp and a few tweaks!!! :-O
i would still get this car without the turbo and ass it myself ;D
Aftermarket bro.
Your wish has been answered. Evora 400 is coming to the states end of this fall. Powerboost and even lighter than before.
LockesCow and its supercharged
Now the Evora 410 exists!
I love the look of that car frolicking about in the fields :D
LMAOOOOO "When you crash you don't even notice"
I cant speak on US per say, but there is a fairly well established Lotus dealer market in Canada, and I have been seeing these Evoras much more frequently than I had originally anticipated. It looks like they are doing quite well over here.
Am I the only one who thinks the front of this looks like a mclaren
jkats9812 it's like a baby 12c
The whole thing does
@@Rylopero I see the resemblance but the Lotus Evora was introduced first. :)
Car Enthusiast TV exactly! It can’t be a coincidence. Maybe Lotus had a hand in the design? They are both British manufacturers
Ryan Pelopero and what’s more my next suggested video is the top gear 12c review. They do look like blood relatives
'I'm not steering I'm just using the power of suggestion '
jesus that riff in the intro is incredible
you mean the Mclaren looks like the Lotus, the Lotus came out first ;)
Saw one in person at the MPLS MN Auto Show yesterday. It was locked, so I couldn't sit inside, but it looked as though it would be a blast to drive.
The shape reminds me of the Hennessey venom
Renaldi Dwiyaputra I see what you did
That's cause the Hennessy Venom is using a Lotus body...
Hm, I was thinking it looked like the original Tesla Roadster
@@frowlinian8175 The original Tesla Roadster I believe was borrowing the body of the Elise, not the Evora.
Who's here after the reveal of the Emira?
It's amazing how far Lotus has come. One day I'll have that bad boy in my garage!
Why not just watch Fifth Gear instead?
cause its shit!
Fifth Gear essentially is the old pre 2000s Top Gear.
"The average supercar has a massive V - A MILLION engine..."
Hahahahaha!
S2000...??? Do you have a free appointment next Tuesday afternoon to touch up my roots & do a perm & set...?!? 😉😘🤣
it resembles agera a bit
We pay millions in licence fees and you can't even upload in HD
Because when they are guaranteed by law to get those license fees why would they have to put in any effort to really earn it.
Mate this video came out ages ago, HD didn't even exist then
Chris Tanner yes it did but ok, 1080p was becoming a thing when this was released, there is no excuse
TopGear is the best car program in the world !
If only Takumi of Initial D drives this.......
Its 2014... Why am I watching 360p?!
The video was uploaded in 2010
It's 2024..?
because the Elise and Exige had very stiff suspension.
At one point it just appeared like an Koenigsigg Agera...
Like a Henessey Venom
@@tommyvercettygt. Venom is more to Exige
No, the engine is from the 2008+ Toyota Camry (US/UK) or the Asia (which I have here in Australia) the Toyota Aurion.
What do you mean? It's called the Coil Voltic.
I believe the Voltic is modeled after the Tesla Roadster, which is modeled after the Lotus Exige, which is related to the Evora...
Just saw one of these up close at a car expo, and its stunning to say the least
Dress Shop??? HOw dare that overgrown urang utang. It's pretty, and not girly in any way. Better than your hairdressers SLK Jeremy.
He meant the name
The Lotus Evora is beautiful and my dream car. They already took care of the power with the latest Evora S, which is supercharged and has 345 horsepower. It's the perfect car for under hundred thousand. If I had the money I'd pick this in a heartbeat over any other car for less then 100grand. Especially cause it's so rare, it's not huge like the GTR (I don't like huge cars),and it comfy enough to be a daily driver.
so this is what's b is for builds car is going to look like..
i love how jeremey clarkson always uses similies
I like the car, but it's $68,480 for a V6 car.
68k can get you one hell of a car,
hell, a 40K Camaro SS 1le beat this car around the track.
You won't find anything that handles as good as it for that price with that power.
Sean Ó Briain the SS 1le easily beats the evora at the track.
Doesn't look as good, but lap times are lap times.
For 68k you could get a C7 Stingray, or a used GTR. This thing is way too expensive!!
Trygve Germo used c6 z06 are around 45k.
I like lotus, but 68k is a lot 2 pay for a toyota v6.
Sanic Easily beats it on what track?
Who needs more than 160 miles in real life streets anyway? The handlig is amazing, quick enough. I saw one yesterday and my jaw dropped. It is really a beauty
Looks like a copy of a Pontiac Fiero, or what one might have looked like by now, if they hadn,t dropped the Fiero. Matter of fact I"ll take an 85 Fiero, re-power it & will dance circles around this thing. Lotus it seems is an ersatz coach builder, as they cant make their own engines.
DAMN good engine.
michael allen
You can bet on it that this Toyota engined machine will last quite the long time, with no engine related issues whatsoever.
Ricardo Ellison It really doesn't look like a Pontiac Fiero, but ok, whatever floats your boat, and if you just revived a Fiero I highly doubt it would/could compete with a well built machine such as the one here in this video.
They tuned Toyota Camry engine. And pontiac fiero? :v
Indra Ida Bagus
I was comparing the similar idea of the two cars, small, short, low to the ground transverse mid-engined engines.Unfortunately, Fieros' had been given the dregs of engine choices from the GM line-up, guaranteeing a disappointing resultant car.
Big surprise, Top Gear making a big deal about a junk British car
yep. Especially, Clarkson, he's by far the worst.
Lotus Evora, junk car?
Please give me feedback when you've actually driven one, please, I'm curious.
3 seconds is a huge difference round that track. Lotus is in the same class as a Cayman not a 911 turbo which IS a competitor to the f430 :)
the engine on the 2009-present Lotus Evora
Engine
3.5 L Toyota 2GR-FE V6 (280 PS (206 kW; 276 hp)
3.5 L Toyota 2GR-FZE V6 (supercharged, 345 hp)
its not a drag car, its a weekend track car...handles like a dream
What is the music you play in all your videos, they are all just so cool, epic and quite fitting!
0:45 Would be fun to see what Clarkson had to say about the Agera :D
