    can´t really understand the importance people give to setting the device with the phone... I only set the unit one time: the first time i use it. I may change a field from time to time, but it is just so simple to do it...

    I just look at trails in navigation for navigation, like looking at a map, when it decides to work properly. Everything else, like trail forks is that frustrating I have to either put in my pocket or turn it off.

    I had the Edge 800 before getting a 1030+. I am not sure how Garmin made their user interface worse :D The Edge 800 is way better in terms of usability. For example, you dont need to swipe the screen to get to next page, since you have the arrows at the bottom of the screen to go to next or previous screen. The contrast is also much better on the Edge 800 (and its 10 years old now....) where the 1030+ looks washed out. I wonder if there is some way to change contrast, and not only Brightness. Cause the black is more gray than black on the 1030+. Otherwise the 1030+ is much faster in startup, and it has some better datafields like for power and heartrate, and its got sms notifications, so I dont have to check my watch when I get a sms.

    The 830 is awesome!

    $380 for the new one today it's the best GPS computer deal on the market IMHO. Just get remote control, so you have your solution not having the buttons when you need them

    Odd. Every review I’ve read said that the 830 has faster responsiveness in terms of touchscreen loading and gps route navigation compared to the 1030...

    how does speed sensor 2 work for you? For me it indicates erratic speeds ... it says it is not a battery. I do not know what it could be.

    I recently purchased a Garmin Edge 830 - first purchase of a Garmin product. My display seems blur, in particular the the large text/characters in the main menu with white background. Annoying, a bit uncomfortable but not dramatic.
    I don't know if this is a defect or if I am used to better screen in general (i.e. iPhone).
    Are you experiencing the same?

    Ok review! But why does everyone say the 530 is the same as the 830 aside for the touchscreen, and that’s not the case. The 830 has more features than the 530 aside for touchscreen. And no reviewer ever mentions the details of such differences. Everyone gives basic overview. Oh well

    My first kudos from Ride Adelaide! Nice review. I bought an 830 and kinda regret not getting the 1030. Oh well.

      It was a good review, little condescending but overall very useful.

      The 1030 IS generally pretty awesome for the reasons mentioned in the vid (+ others). I reckon he's probably spot on - my 1030 also freaks out mapping sometimes though 😒

      the 830 is newer, faster, and has a better screen according to other reviews.

    How is the touch screen with regular winter gloves? What about rain?
    If you don't need the extra navigation feature, you'd say go with the 530?

      Yo Alon, check out this video where I do a direct comparison between the 530 and 830: th-cam.com/video/KfNZkXYuGNY/w-d-xo.html

    The best thing of 830 is the screen size. 1030 is huge and big. I used both

      I quite like the 1030! I'd be very tempted to get the next generation 1040 or whatever if they give it better battery life.

    5.18 "One weekend I did four days of riding." That was a busy weekend for sure. A slip of the tongue. 😅😅👍

    I want it, but I don't really need it.. But anyway I'm gonna buy it, it will be side by side with my Xperia z5 compact with strava.. 😉

    So is the 530 your “daily driver” for gps? I know you test quite a few, but am curious what you go with the majority of the time.

      @JustRideAdelaide  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes indeed, the 530 is my choice even though I still have the 830. Check out my video on the 530 where I talk in detail about why that is.

    Complaining about not being able to press the correct place while riding… Really? Usually all you do while riding is to swipe right or left, as all has been set up before. Not even often, as Screen one has all main information. And when you’re lost and need the GPS, please stop to handle the device. For your own security.

  • @bogusjimmy

    PS if my Garmin freaks out navigating a route like you mentioned (seems to happen less nowadays) then I stop the route and start navigating the route again. That seems to right the ship.
    PPS I’m impressed you managed to fit 4 days of riding into a weekend!

    Sweaty fingers plus touch screen = disaster, worse is small screen. Won't be buying, I get annoyed enough with my Android.

    • @JustRideAdelaide
      @JustRideAdelaide  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally. The 830 is smeared with sunscreen constantly. I've got a Wahoo ELEMNT Roam at the moment and it's AWESOME to have big chunky buttons instead of touch screen.

      Dudes, what i don't get is why do people need to use the touch screen during a ride? Set up your screen, and use your hands to shift & break!!!! If you need to use the torch screen stop unmount the device, remove your gloves if need be. Set it up once and that's that. I come from a wired non gps cycling computer and Im used to shifting through pages to get cadenve and distance and time, now i have them all in one page, guess what, you don't need to use the touch screen!!! Just like when driving only use the menu functions while stopped
