Great video! I was extremely fortunate to find an AES console with 56 games for a bargain! I could've sold it off for a great profit but decided to keep almost everything because I love this system that much. Truly a unique console with some of the best fighting games of all time!
Neo Geo was so expensive because SNK didn't really want to take away from arcades at the time. It was still cheaper to go to an arcade to play these so SNK was making money there, and also making money from businesses that were purchasing the AES. Most households didn't have it as it was $650 on release. It's a shame it was so expensive because I would kill to have one. But I guess if it was less expensive it probably would have crappier parts and wouldn't run games as good as the MVS could.
Yeah, for the most part the hardware is solid... It's just that damned first revision 5V that's giving me problems. Surprisingly, it's working GREAT with the RetroTink 4K.
Own 2 Japanese 3-6 aes. 1 cib, the other fully recapped with unibios 4 installed. I also consolized a Mv1c mvs and was fortunate to purchase a mvs to aes converter from furrtek. Neo is my favorite console to collect for overall. Was debating the Neo sd pro but really enjoyed your take on that cart. For me I have a mixture of originals, convert and repro carts. I’m happy with my collection. Would like more carts but I’m getting them at the price point I want. I’ve started collecting MVS games more now as well. Keep the Neo geo content coming.
I am happy with my normal nonpro NeoSD. I advise you to get that one. Yeah, games take some time to load, but that makes you commit to one gane at a time 😅 . And has 100% compatibility.
Got a 1 slot consolized mvs and a 2 slot mainboard with a supergun. Really great system. Keep in mind that 1 slot systems have mono sound only (you can mod them). The mister fpga is a decent alternative btw.
I didn't say that they have microswitches or anything.. I'm just trying to convey that they are not "mushy". I see what you are trying to say, but they do have a distinct "click" sound when pressed. Perhaps "clacky" is a better term.
Nope, 8/10 they are always out of stock. You kinda have to jump on it the day that they come out. And unfortunately... the next batch could always be their last, knowing Terraonion.... Hopefully a new contender for Neo Geo flash carts comes out to play very soon.

I have never played it, but it's just too expensive for me to jump in. I've heard good things about it the ACA Neo Geo ports for PS4, so I'm going to go that route.
Yeah, there are a ton of compilations of Neo Geo games out there. Anything that isn't on said compilations can just be emulated. I'm just a sucker for playing on original hardware if at all possible.
I also think the AES isn't really worth the investment all the time simply due to pricing alone. Its of course up to the buyer to determine that but I suspect most will feel the same if they don't like lighting their money on fire every month. The MVS might be more challenging for some to get working in the home but its overall value and the sheer number of units floating around in the wild makes it an easier pill to swallow. Me personally though, if I were to recommend any official Neo Geo hardware to someone new, I would always point at the Neo Geo CD. Even now you can get a model 2 toploader for a bargain. The games are easier to store than the carts are by virtue of being CDs, are vastly more affordable than even the MVS carts and have CD quality audio with many even having beautiful redone audio tracks that take full advantage of the CD format. The downsides? It requires a proprietary power supply that's hard to find if the system doesn't come with one, a small number of games (really just late release fighting titles) have egregious load times and the more popular CDZ model can cost a pretty penny. The good news is most games including my favorite, Magician Lord, have load times that are no better or worse than a PS1 or Saturn game and a model 2 will play those no problem. I tend to gravitate towards the non-fighting games that SNK has to offer so the Neo Geo CD was perfect for me. Even so, my favorite Neo Geo fighting game is Far East of Eden and the loading on that doesn't bother me.
Good video but, sadly the best time to get into collecting for it was during the late 90s from early to mid 2000's. Prices were amazing for the AES, CD, and MVS back then. Good luck to everyone who's new to the Neo Geo collecting scene!

I would say, when we will be at the age of 60-70s taking kast breadth..we wont regret that we didnt lived the best of our lives ...we played some of the best badazz high end Consoles instead of saving some money..ok it was bit expensive but not expensive as our valuable lives!! I say, get it ..its like now or never... Who knows how bling our future is...games nowdays are very good in graphics and so...but they lack the vibes, fun ..they are more soulless ...i have Asus Rog lapy, but i play early 2000 games!! Those games really flush out my depression...so these 80-90s toys are expensive but worth it!
It's a very cool console! I still have it, despite saying that I was going to sell it. I took it to a swap meet, and asked a very fair price for it, but still -- no sale. I think this is the Neo Geo Gods telling me to keep it. It'll likely be worth more years from now.

As you said it, its subjective, I'm a big neogeo fan as well and wanted to experience the real thing, so being an arcade player, I wen't straight for the arcade part, that is, a neogeo cab with the mvs system and carts, today I have a japanese candy cab and around 40+ original mvs games, spent around $7,500 usd (once you start collecting its hard to stop), so yes, I ended spending a lot of money on this hobby, but I belive is still cheaper if I went with the aes part and those same 40+ games (I have seen some aes carts costing up to $10,000 usd in ebay), plus I never played the home version anyway, so if you are not that serious about neogeo, you better get some emulators or a switch with the official releases. 😂
i play with Orthros and 161in1 v3 ... And i collect only the very best MVS like ShockTroopers , Garou, NeoTurf Master, Metal Slug 5... All in Shockbox + nice Covers... they deserve it !! i'm about 30 games actualy, and i love my collection :) i play a lot with it... It's not just to look pretty on a shelf i really try hard one CC for eatch game ... and i'm only on Easy mode !! it's hard ^^ Instead of buying a NeoSd Pro which costs an arm and a leg, you should definitely get a NeoCd Top Load with an SD Kit... it's just great and 100% functional.
@@travisbowmanmusic A lot of people criticize the NeoGeo CD because the sprites are smaller, that things are missing... but in fact it's quite the opposite for me, my favorite game is NeoTurf Master and the best version is on NeoCD!!
you forgot the 500 for the sony triniton. And the console itself really wasn't the problem. It really was the games that made you say "nah i'll pass." Sure they were good but imagine having to save up 2 christmasses and a birthday to get one game...
Glad I collected B&Os and Trinitrons when people were giving them away for free so that they dont have to carry them to the recycling centre 😅. Family thinks that I must be crazy having 20 or so CRTs at home....
These days the Sony Trinitron is being phased out by newer upscalers such as the RetroTink 4K, which is also very expensive. I've got a PVM in my living room setup as well as the Tink 4K. I love them both, but you can't beat having these graphics displayed with HDR on a 55 inch 4K display!
i own a mvs cbox and i never regret getting. it’s starting to get a little more pricey though. i honestly stopped collecting for all gaming systems except my mvs. i’ll buy real mvs carts when i find good deals but ill buy mvs repro carts as well. i know it makes me sound like a hypocrite but i would encourage someone to just emulate the games on pc or buy them on xbox or playstation ect. one thing i never hear many people talk about is the worry that comes with owning it. mvs is not that bad, it just depends on what you bought. i have bad anxiety so i couldnt imagine owning a aes and worrying about the console or carts messing up. 😅 your thumbnail for the video is a good image for owning almost anything neo geo. 😂

I have a early 5v model like yours. I recommend if you are using rom carts or converters to go with a 5v 5A power adapter instead of 5v 3A.
I've tried pretty much every flavor of power supply for this. Still didn't work with the Neo SD Pro.

Yeah that's a big bummer with no stereo audio.. The NeoSD Pro has that same issue with Neo Geo CD games.

Yeah, it's pretty easy to give up on all of it just based on the price alone. But it's really cool to finally get to play around with the AES.

Yes it is worth it. I have an Neo Geo AES 3-5 and neosd, I’m set.
I've only had the NEO-AES revision, and I've had nothing but problems with it.
