Finally! A golf coach that doesn't add useless minutes of verbal-waterboarding to the tutorial... Most coaches (even great ones) add 17 useless minutes talking about irrelevant chatter to a 7 minute training - so frustrating! I'm following this channel for sure! Great video, Coach!
This is the clearest I've seen this presented regarding the idea of pushing down with the left pad to get wrist cock and keep left arm straight. I'm going to give this a try at my next range session. thanks
This is the BEST VIDEO I've seen in years that shows clearly pushing down with the left pad to get the wrist to cock and keep the left arm straight. I have a very stiff back as I was a body buider so no much flexibility when trying to have my back facing target... I'm going to give this a try ASAP on the range, there is hope, thank you so much.
I just discovered your channel a few weeks ago. YOU have my vote for Instructor of the Year! I am a 18 handicap and have averaged over 90 all year this year. After watching your video and keeping my left arm straight, my last two rounds were 85 (last week) and 76 (today). I hit 9 of 14 fairways and 12 of 18 greens in regulation. Thank you so much for adding joy to my favorite game. Now I need to work on my putting. Out of 12 GIRs, I only converted 3 to birdies and 8 to pars. I will study your putting instruction videos.
Adam, another great tip. I see so many players try to "throw" the club head away from them during the take away, rather than "push" the grip end toward the ground. I also think there are quite a few instructors that teach the wrong way to start the take away. You hit the nail on the head (as always). I also like how you address players who might not be as flexible as we once were. Brilliant.
I wished I knew this a long time ago. Great job of explaining it, I have a bad back and that actually even helps my back out. Wow, what a great teacher you are.
Wow! I've watched hundreds of videos on the backswing, but this is the first one that has made such a clear connection between how a proper wrist cock actually helps to keep the lead arm straight. This has been a real eyeopener for me. Thank you, Adam. Well done!
THE SECRET of pushing on the left hand thumb with the right hand to push the grip away to keep the left arm straight--Great advise I have never heard before after years of looking ---club head speed exploded for me today==Thanks
Yes, this was very helpful, I am thankful, good easy explanation for a senior. For some reason, this video has been the topping to all the other golf videos I watch, because there are so many perfect swings people are showing on here , you tube.
YOOO THANK YOU SO MUCH. This just changed my game completely, I literally just added about 30 yards to every club and improved my ball striking immediately. Blows my mind that nobody has caught this before for me, thank you!
Best golf tip ever on how to have a straight left arm in the backswing. For years, I've tried to push away with my right arm to straighten my left with no success. Pushing that fat pad in the left hand down on the takeaway is a miracle worker. I ripped the ball. For example, on hole number 6, I drove the ball 265 yards on to the green and the putt was for an eagle which I missed! The next lesson will be putting!
Excellent video Adam on How To Keep The Left Arm Straight In The Golf Swing! I like your explanation of how "pushing down the butt end of the handle with your left hand" not only straightens the left arm but produces necessary wrist hinge. Well Done Adam! I have archived this video!!!
Yes, to the point! Already improved by the pushing the left wrist into the club to start the hinge -- much better feel and keeps the left arm straight. Thank You!
Just got round to watching this and have to say it is the best description of how to cock the wrists properly in the backswing that I have come across in all my years of golf. Many thanks
That was the magic feeling I was missing, feeling the club create a wider arc by pushing out on the butt. This also feels more powerful, controlled and the same every time. Thank You So Much!
Superior golf tutorial. I've watched numerous golf tutorial videos, but hands down yours is the best. I recently subscribed to your channel and now watch it exclusively.
I’ve been working really hard this past year to actually take the game seriously and not just go and drink and drive a cart. Enjoying the game even more now since I’m being more consistent. I will say I’m aiming to have a “textbook” definition swing and way to hard headed to accept anything other then that lol. Thank you for sharing your lessons and keeping them straight to the point
Thanks Nicholas, and hope you make progress. I’m doing some Mini schools on the road this summer. If it’s of any interest feel free to reach out through adambgolf.com Thanks, Adam
Ben Hogan's book was instrumental in changing my swing, obviously for the better and the first thing you talked about was his book and the grip. Awesome video and can't wait to see more. I just subscribed. Thank you!!
I don't see how you could have made my understanding of this concept easier. Sure, others have said to do certain things. But, none seemed to have made it so simple. Thank you.
very pleased to see this video. I believe this is the single most important tip for a correct swing. The wrist bends toward the bottom of the arm as the left arm is kept straight.
Awesome tip, you are a great teacher. Your video on how to hit the ball without striking it fat has helped me more than any other tip! Hands pass ball 1st. That and lag really have done wonders. Thanks
Thanks 😊 I definitely hit the ball better when I keep my left arm fairly straight. It doesn’t come natural to me because I’ve played so many years bending my left arm. It’s a game changer. 😊 Gracias
I knew from Jim Flick's videos about how to push the handle down, but you took it to the next level where you demonstrate pushing it out. I never realized I was pushing the club head out. Thank you for clearing this up.
The snow finally melted here and I gave it a go, the drill works and my upper lead arm hurts from the stretch! Thank you for all you do to make us play better ⛳.
I known this is an older video but I have tried this over the last week and it has been amazing. I have added 30 metres to driver and woods and am now able to compress my irons more frequently. I have plenty of work to do however this has helped enormously. I never had the correct feeling associated with cocking my wrist until now. Thank you 🎉
The key is the straighter left arm. I was breaking it. The club facing the sky is not a problem. It will Automatically bend a little on its own. Thank you for the great video. Well explained.
Never heard push the handle away to cock but it makes perfect sense. I’ve always had an issue with lack of risk cock and a collapsing trail arm. Thanks so much!!
I've been playing golf for ~50 years. The straight left arm always made sense to me, but I could never incorporate it into my game. For me, it was just too uncomfortable. I came across something this week (accidentally) that changed my golfing life and golf swing. It's this: Instead of trying to keep a straight left arm all the way going back in the backswing, I let my left arm straighten at the end of my backswing. And that's the only time, besides the beginning of the swing when my arm is straight. This little tweak has dramatically changed my swing and made me more consistent and straight.
I have the habit also bend my arms both especially left at a 45° angle. I do this so badly I actually pulled an already injured pec muscle. Look with one watch from you Adam it's my wrist that I missing the basics. I'm a rookie so not even ashamed I injured myself. I'll keep watching I appreciate you and your craft.
Your channel and instruction style are awesome! You give gold and you give it quickly! Watching your videos is truly a joy. Thanks for taking the time to help us with our game. 👍😎
Adam, Thank you for content. My question is in watching your left wrist it looks bent and not flat. I love watching the beat players' swings. John Rahm and Justin Johnson flatl from the beginning. In minimizing variables, what are your thoughts. Thank you.
Thanks Marc. Rahm and Johnson are great, but I’m not a fan of the bowed look in the backswing. I have a video at this channel about keeping the wrist flat, hope it’s helpful
My father-in-law always said i have lazy hands. I never was really able to feel-understand the wrist cock. THis video did it for me. First range session of the year I had great strikes. Irons were in the words of John Sterling (Yankee announcer)..... it is high, it is far, it is gone!
My wife and I are about to golf for the first time in our life, so we need all the help we can get. We have taken four lessons and were never told about the straight left arm, thanks.
Locking out my lead arm helps and my wrists stay supple. I turn around my spine by pulling in my right shoulder blade to my spine while maintain that straight lead arm. I’m a range pro but also a 22 handicap.
Adam, I gave my Taylor Made M4 irons to my grandson figuring to get fitted for something new but I hit my old irons (which i was fitted for) back in 2007 and I was hitting them great. Thanks so much. Quick question. Many teach a flat left wrist position at the top of the backswing. This pushing down on the handle on the way back seems to leave a cupped wrist at the top. Should I worry about that ?
Great tips! Thank you. I find it so hard to keep my left arm stiff and straight without making the rest of me get all stiff and straight as well. Have to practice these drills.
Finally! A golf coach that doesn't add useless minutes of verbal-waterboarding to the tutorial... Most coaches (even great ones) add 17 useless minutes talking about irrelevant chatter to a 7 minute training - so frustrating! I'm following this channel for sure! Great video, Coach!

Thanks so much. Quick question. Many teach a flat left wrist position at the top of the backswing. This pushing down on the handle on the way back seems to leave a cupped wrist at the top. Should I worry about that ?
I'm fine with the wrist being slightly cupped Michael.

George,
I’d say enough to feel the club is in control, but not so much as to stiffen wrists
