eitherway a ketogenic state is likely since a caloric deficiency would burn up the glucose relatively fast.

geigster this is something i wanted to test out with ketostix or a blood glucose monitor,I mean carbs turn into glucose then are stored in muscles/liver so shouldn't a caloric deficiency force the body to metabolize that first?

In order to really do this property, you heed to cut out caffeine and sugar and potentially alcohol two weeks prior to the challenge, it’s the addiction that’s making you feel like shit, your headaches and exhaustion not only are signs of not enough food, but also detoxing. That being said, they should supply multivitamins in the rations, along with omega oils and fibre bars to keep the body healthy

Hey William! Thanks for your note! Did you watch the video all the way through? On two occasions I mention how I’m not trying to simulate the experience of a refugee, but rather, am attempting to gain a better understanding of one facet of their lives, i.e. the nutritional value of the rations that they sometimes have no choice but to survive off of.
The point, as Michalovesanime mentioned, is to give viewers (some of whom may have trouble empathizing) a better sense of how difficult it can be to live off these rations for extended periods of time-a basic reality for many refugees around the world.

michalovesanime - You can't create an empathy for "others" and make "outsiders" feel more about the people (refugees) by creating a 9-minute video with full of gimmicks. Make a documentary and paint a true picture of the situation if you really want others to empathize. A 9-minute video will be forgotten by tomorrow in the ocean of videos on TH-cam. I am sure Al Jazeera has enough funds to support the cause and help you guys make an hour-long documentary. Their headquarter in Doha is not too far from many refugee camps in the region. They want to be called the richest country in the world by per-capita, but they don't do shit for the refugees.

Knowing how to cook good won't increase their needed calories for survival. In a point u said about knowing how to cook, anaemia can be easily prevented in cooking in iron or steel utensils but that doesn't hide the fact in couple of months or years they might die from starvation or heart failures because of their incomplete diet.

Im swiss and starting next week ill be teaching a syrian refugee german (im swiss german). He already managed to get to about a C1 level by himself, but in order to truly get around he needs to practice normal conversations and writing. Getting that much experience with a regular teacher would cost a ton, so ill do it for free. I want to maybe become a high school teacher or a university teacher, so its also a great exercise for me, because i have to work at a supermarket part time (im a student) and cannot work in a job that would be closer to what i want to do later on (because such jobs like helping students with homework are cool jobs, but are a very instable income). Also i just think its the right thing to do
Im writing this because i hope to inspire someone else to maybe help someone or somethig. Whether that is helping out at your local animal rescue, talking to elderly people and listening to them and make them feel less lonely or just basic kindness to strangers. Everyone can do something for someone, even if its small. Sometimes the smallest gestures can make the biggest impact.

Nutrition fact: Plant-based iron source, like the kidney beans and lentils in the kit, provides iron, but is not absorbed as well as animal sourced heme iron. The amount of iron from these beans is also not sufficient judging from the amount he eats every day. These iron can be better absorbed if vitamin-C rich foods are in the meal, but they won't be very sufficient in these rations.

Iron deficiency is the most common deficiency BECUASE OF MENSTRUATION.
Women lose a LOT of iron through menstruation, which is why so many people confuse anemia and iron deficiency.

nor mie this is why sex ed is important. Maybe watch the video again, because you aren't even quoting what was said in the video, but a misinterpretation of what was said.
To make it easier, they said "...affecting around 50% of people (globally)" which includes them first world nourished folk.
Alas, you've probably never had to deal with either menstruation nor anemia... Anemia is not fun, especially when its transfusion level bad.
I think this probably isn't worth going any deeper on, the amount of education I'd have to do to bring you out of remedial level is quite sad, please, just go back to school.

Besides having a shit ton of caffeine in my diet this is my cheap college diet. I do agree with the meh feeling it gives you. Interesting seeing this video now. Rice for every meal, oil added for calories, some dry beans every now and then, dry oatmeal, peanut butter, tuna, cheap frozen spring mix, black coffee. I definitely realized that even if you get more than enough calories you need to start eating more "real" meats and veggies or you really start to feel bad. Sugar was an n/a though as I had previously tried to cut it out. But yeah having bland for for every meal can be tough on you.

Other than that, I eat beans, lentils, and rice. My main iron intake is from my monthly meal with some meat and a cast iron pan. It’s hard to imagine an even worse diet, and my soul hurts for those who have to live off worse food.
