Yeah, irrespective of what Disney do, the BBC will keep it going for awhile yet. Top Gear was another of their huge IP's and they kept that going until it became impossible. I suspect your right about whether that line was removed. It's easily taken out before airing if someone in charge deemed it so. I was going to add a concern about all the big gaps between seasons, if they aren't filming until next year. Then I remembered we still haven't had season 2 yet, so no worries.
Yes Top Gear was only out on hold because of the safty aspects after Freddie’s accident. I’m sure the brand will be brought back eventually, possibly in a different format.

I think that after ITV delivered the episode of The Graham Norton Show to the BBC people at the BBC decided to cut what he said because it wasn't the truth.
@@CulturePhilter Indeed. So Television, a sub-brand of ITV Studios, makes the show and ITV Studios distributes it. Both ITV Studios and BBC Studios wholly own many "independent" production companies which for accounting purposes own copyright and the big two keep all of the profits. The reason for keeping the sub-brands is to limit the brand confusion of having an ITV show made by BBC Studios and a BBC show made by ITV Studios. It also allows the big two to get around the terms of trade rules for commercial exploitation. Line of Duty was made by ITV. Baby Reindeer on Netflix was made by a BBC Studios sub-brand.
I think you're probably right. I'm not super enthusiastic about this new run, or Ncuti's Doctor (more the way he's been written than the performance though), but I'd have said the first thing after McCoy's first year, and his final year is one of my favourites. Even if the show was in danger I don't think they'd end it on a season 24. I just hope if it does turn around the BBC don't axe it right when it finds its footing again.
I think their is very little chance of the BBC canceling it right now for the simple reason that I and others like Mr TARDIS have often talked about which is that is it one of the biggest money makers for the BBC in terms of intellectual property and merchandising rights. Etc.. even if Disney pull out the BBC will still go ahead either by finding another distribution partner or cutting budget to fund it completely themselves.
That is one of the reasons I don’t think they’ll cut this era short, it will have 3 seasons, even if one is short like Jodie’s, but the show will continue making money if it’s not active just as it did post 89. There’s fewer figures than in the Dapol days and most of them are classic. Less buzz about the books and Big Finish, Heck Merchandising wise I would argue a brief shelving would see a boost in profit for the show. But if they end it finding partners willing to give favourable terms becomes that much harder, the expectations for a relaunch that much higher. I think they will want to avoid ending it at all costs, but with the BBCs squeezed budget I think they’re going to have to find a slightly bigger audience, one big enough to drive a lot more merchandising of the current iteration of the show.
Ncuti's performance in season 1 might not be my favourite of all the doctors, but I think it is good news - if it's true - that he's staying for a third season; every actor who plays the doctor deserves at least a few seasons to really grow into the character and make it their own.
