- Russell T Davies ( RTD ) appeared on the BBC's The One Show on Tuesday 10th of December and when asked about season two said its "Coming sooner than you think" so what could that mean?

A January release would be AMAZING but I think that is very unlikely, I'm thinking March or April hopefully March, the sooner the better honestly and I do remember the Disney leak that happened earlier this year which mentioned that Season 2 will start on March 28/29th, which I think would be pretty perfect! And the sooner this series goes out the sooner Disney can make their renewal decision and the sooner Season 3 can start production!
I agree a March start would be great. Just like the old days 🙂
i bet you the bbc changed their release window to help disney finalise their decision unless they already locked in one
I mean if Sydney are waiting to see how season 2 does for them it helps to get that decision early for a season 3 in first half of 2026
I hope you're right and they will announce premiere for the cold beginning of next year, january would be great, but also february and march would work as well. I was honestly very surprised by late spring/ summer release of season 1, of course I know it was delayed like you said in video but if I was BBC I'd move it to colder months later in the year. Imagine how nice would be to wstch 73 yards in the cold rainy evening for the first time. Also I hope they will stick to the same release time as the Xmas special and have it simultanously everywhere
Yeah anywhere in those first 3 months is probably good. The earlier it is though the quicker they can get a decision from Disney for season 3 and hopefully get a season out in first half of 2026 as well.
@@CulturePhilter exactly! I really hope Disney will decide to continue partnership with BBC on this - past leaks where it was described as low budget series for Disney make me hopeful - I don't want to loose legal access to DW. Right niw I'm feeling very optimistic regarding Xmas special, seems like a lot of festive fun and I hope it will bring massive audience!
Great video as always. The sooner the better in my mind! However, I understand if 'sooner than you think' means March. Can't wait, in any case.
March seems like a sensible time.
Honestly feel like late February would be good
That could certainly work. I do generally think having a couple of months break after Christmas is a good thing but not TOO long (end of May is too long) but there are reasons involving getting a decision on Disney’s involvement for season 3 that mean quicker is better this year particularly.
It's conceivable that very late February or early March could be achieved. I definitely think January is off the cards because something would have leaked from a publicity partner.
Possibly. They certainly haven’t been able to keep a lid of all leaks so far.
I reckon it'll release mid-late February or early march. At least, that's what I hope!
Could do. March would make a lot of sense
I would love it if it was at the last week of February
Is there reason you’d like that Specific week? (Is it your birthday?🥳)
@CulturePhilter yes
I think while everyone including myself would love a January release the reality is more likely a March/April release 😊
I believe it will be a midnight drop again tho unfortunately much as I hate that. 😢
Maybe an earlier release date means a quicker decision from Disney and we and they can move forward from there. If no then hopefully getting a budget from the BBC for the next season or finding other sources 😊
Yes, quicker the decision from Disney means quicker can get on with season 3
The thing is, if Disney don't want to air it at the same time as another "geek" show (which they tend to try and avoid) then there's no obvious gap in the schedule. You've got Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man from January 29th, Daredevil: Born Again starting on March 4th, Andor starting April 22nd, Ironheart beginning June 24th, Eyes of Wakanda from Aug 6th then Marvel Zombies in October and Wonder Man in December. I could definitely see DW airing Jan-Feb to avoid the really big hitters. My worry is that if it's the same time as Daredevil or Andor (which would be my bet) it's gonna get absolutely buried.
Possibly. Although with a sci-fi primed audiences logging in at that time to see something else that might actually HELP Doctor Who if they see it on the home page when they head there for Star Wars/MCU etc…
@CulturePhilter That's true. Assuming Disney publicise it on the front page. Obviously we don't know living in the UK how much they prioritise it, but I know that Paramount+ seems to refuse to push the Star Trek shows (that are airing their final seasons admittedly).
@ having a VPN is a good way to see what they put on front pages in other countries 🙂 for season one at least it seemed to be on the top spindle thing they have.
@@MarvelManMike82It puts it on the first banner for a few days or that week, every time a new episode is released.
Easter Saturday (often a launch time for RTD1).Next year Easter Saturday is April 19. Which would be sooner.
Yeah I think that would be a pretty solid start date. Maybe just a couple of weeks earlier might be better though to really avoid summer.
It will be March because they can’t air it in January/February because that’s when the new Series of Call the Midwife and Death In Paradise starts The BBC doesn’t want to Air all the Slate of new series all in one go
Possible. Although they are likely very different audiences
For the classic RTD vibes it has to be Easter, right?
That would be Saturday 19th April this year then. 🙂
I'd rather they rest the show until they could find a brand new entire producton team and go back to a producer and script editor RTD obviously doesnt know whats going on and is losing confidence in his writing.
RTD wrote some great episodes last season (Dot and Bubble, 73 Yards) so I wouldn’t say he’s ’lost it completely as a writer but I do think he lost sight of making the overall narrative of the season accessible and in some ways coherent.
I don’t think the show needs a break or a new creative team, just to learn from the mistakes of this first season.
I agree
I could understand wanting it in January but then there's basically a year wait until a new episode. Would it make the Christmas special feel less like a special? I genuinely prefer April. I also prefer the episodes to be at least 50 minutes but that seems unlikely
That’s a very good point. Normally I’d absolutely advocate for April for that reason. Jan this time particularly has the advantage of us then finding out what Disney want to do sooner which means BBC can get on with season 3 earlier and we might therefore stand a chance of getting it in first half of 2026
Personally I'm in no hurry to see the next series of Doctor Who. I'm a patient person and I'm sure I will enjoy it when it comes on. I'm not going to get involved in a debate because I couldn't care less. I buy the new stuff but I prefer classic Who. I wish they would carry on naming series and not seasons. Seasons belong to Classic Who not to modern Who.
Yeah it can get a bit confusing when the show now has two different Season 1s and soon two season 2s
I could be wrong, but didn’t the original RTD era premiere Easter weekend?
Which according to a quick google search and Easter Saturday 2005 was sat 26th March. So yes, it did.
Easter next year is almost a month later though on April 20th.
I'm going with March. It's not too far away, but not so close to Christmas.
Yeah I think March is a good shout.
RTD is an amazing guy in the Dr. Who world.
Like any writer he’s got his strength and his weaknesses but I don’t think anyone would deny what he’s done for the show, especially brining it back in 2005
I couldn’t give two flying ducks!
@@gemstonesvideograpghy6672 🤷♂️
My hope is that it starts on the first Saturday of January.
If it is Jan I think mid-late Jan is more likely.
@@CulturePhilter i get that, but season 1 was supposed to air in Jan this year
@TheDoctorWhoDon yes but I think even then they were planning a few weeks break after Christmas before starting it towards end of Jan.
@@CulturePhilter tbf, a few weeks would give time for more hype.
I get attacked when I say this but in all probability Disney signalled it wouldn't be financing a new season in July. Disney+ just doesn't like renewing non-comedy scripted live action beyond a second season. The only time it's happened was for The Mandalorian. Only two shows in that category other than Doctor Who have had more than 16 episodes so far.
True but that is where they are entirely financing the show. They might have a different view as this is a relatively small financial commitment for them.
RTD said shows don't get renewed before they've been screened. Star Trek SNW did. Disney aren't financing any more Who after the spin off and season 2.
He literally said summer the other day. Guy can't keep his story straight, that's what happens when you lie so much...
What interview did he say that about summer in?
It’ll suck even more than the first season lmao
The over all story arc was flawed with season one. And it ended badly. But there were some solid episodes in the middle of the season.
Never go full RTD. The show would've been better off rested after Power of the Doctor.
I’m not sure that’s true. But they did make a potentially great jumping on point for new viewers a bit inaccessible to those potential viewers. It was a mistake to start the new era on Disney with the 60th, that should have started just with season 1 and not had that much narrative connection to 60th in order to be accessible.
