I've learned more about pastel painting in the last hour watching you than I've leaned in two decades. You're amazing, artist and instructor. Thank you.
Once again a great impressionistic painting using distinctive marks. A great artist who provides 60 minutes (both parts) of video for no cost! Recommend this to any artist, whether pastelist, oil or watercolor painter. Teaching and explanation of the ongoing work is very transparent. Keep watching for a local live workshop with Alain Picard. Hope I will find one close to me soon.

Alain your a master at work a pleasurable 60 minutes of pure magic ,my intention was to spend about 30 minutes on part one but got so engrossed in your work i had to go on into part two right through to the finish you are a fantastic teacher. thank you.
Yes I couldnt agree more, suggesting is far more artisitc, dramtic, fun and joyful to look at. Youre eyes becomes busy looking and it mesmerizes you all the time.
I love Impressionism and love how you can make pastels sing like that. You’re very inspirational and the kind of guy I would love to paint with. Watching your videos are very relaxing and therapeutic.
Awesome and amazing video. For me, a miracle happens at 14:20 with the right mark at the right space. The genius of your impressionism and painterly mark making is inspirational.
T Zieg thank you for the feedback and encouragement! I am so glad you enjoyed the power of impressionistic marks to suggest the sky holes through the trees. It is such a fun and impactful way to paint! Now it’s your turn! Have fun painting trees.
Alain Picard I had to paint a crepe myrtle in a commission piece and didn’t want to paint “each leaf”, found your tutorial helpful in painting a suggestion of leaves and flowers. Was happy with the result. Thankyou 🙋🏼🇦🇺
A wonderful demo. Thank you so much. I’m just about to try my hand with pastels. Used other mediums , love art but really encouraged by your videos to give pastel a go.
@@AlainPicard you just don't know how funny that is!! I am working on them though. When I get a good one I will let you know! Thank you for all your wonderful videos.
Amazing thanks for all your tips and help didn’t have any of your magic liquids so I used a baby wipe and that was interesting. Looking forward to seeing more of your work. Thanks again
Wonderful 2 part video Alain, as a beginner with pastels - I normally paint in watercolour - I'm very excited to start playing with pastels in an impressionistic, suggestive way. Thanks so much for your insights and advice, really valuable tutorials :-)
Lois Davidson you are very welcome! So glad that you enjoyed it! Pastel is a perfect medium to compliment your watercolor work. Pastel accents over watercolor is beautiful! All the best.
I learned from this the technique of using warm colors on the periphery with cooler darker colors moving in. This added excitement and volume to your trees, as well as that dynamite bright suggestion if the sunlit leaves. I look forward to someday taking one of your workshops Alain, but until then the videos are so much appreciated
Mike Norton that os great! So glad you are gleaning new ideas from this video for tour work. It would be wonderful to work with you in the future at a workshop. Keep painting, and all the best!
Beautiful impressionistic style pastel painting instruction video. Thanks for your dedication in teaching and your generosity of sharing your knowledge with other artists. I really appreciated it.
Thank you for another fantastic video! I love seeing and hearing your artistic process...esp. re colour, shapes, values...marks... Thank you for this, Alain!
Thank you Alain. Great video, very helpful. ASsI am watching the videos, I am also attempting paintings of my own. Trying to put your mark making demonstration to work right away.
Thanks I enjoyed this final part of the painting, I cant explain the joy i feel in my heart just watching and waiting until the painting is complete. Like I said I am just waiting for my new pastels to arrive and I will try this myself. I hope theres a way for us beginners and as fans of your work to show you our creations and get critics and recommendations from you.. I know its a bit much and its okay if its not feasible with you busy schedule. Just so I hope we can see more videos from you.
Janette Meetze so glad you enjoyed the video! And you are very welcome. I am thrilled it speaks into your journey as an artist right now! Keep painting, and all the best!
Great work. Though I feel like purple color was missing. On your reference photo I can see lot of purplish suggestion on the left in the dark part. But overall love color combination.
Thank you for the guide and You Tube paint along!!!!!!!!! Again, you are amazing because just when I think you have made the wrong mark...wha la...You add something totally unexpected and it just works... Beautifully!!! Just food for thought. It was at near the end of the video when you were making the finial mark making that I really wanted to get inside your mind and know WHY? I would suggest that more explaination be given at the finish part than on the broader parts. Guess, I will just have to start working to afford to take a class up NORTH!!!!!!!! Please tell me when you come down south like as in SC, GA, NC! :))))))
Chawol thanks. All I can say about the color selection is that sometimes I do choose the wrong color or make the wrong mark, then I just adjust and move forward, feeling my way with color to gain a look that is pleasing. Layering pastel is so fun. Glad you enjoyed! Good feedback too, I'll try, it's the part of the painting that really requires alot of brain power. So that's why I slowed my communication. Will think about how to share more there. Stay tuned! And yes, I get south as well, so if you join my email newsletter than you will find out when I am in NC, SC, etc. thanks!
@@AlainPicard I am on your email list. Would not want to miss any communications.
