Never regret bought my BYD Seal premium. Fantastic car👍
Nice!
I have mine in Greece for 2 monthe and 4300kms. I have to say the same. Last week we took the 2403 update. Dont switch off nothing either. I enjoy the car everyday. With the update I felt it more good at handling.
My longest journey was 450km, with speed from 130 to 170 per hour. Did one stop for 20min and off I go... With 42 deegres..
I want to have the lane keeping change as you mentioned and the navigation to take in considetarion the battery Level and the destination so it can tell you where to stop.
Also as you said the roof here in Greece in hot summer dont getting hot..
Hope you get 11kw as we have here in Europe...
Cheers from Greece. George

V2L is another huge plus of this vehicle. I had a 5-hour power outage this week and was able to power my living room as normal from my Seal and carry on with what I was doing, with TV etc. in the background (while the rest of the neighbourhood was in pitch-black darkness). V2L also means I've been able to get rid of all my gas gear and go fully electric (induction hob, lights, fridge, coffee machine) for day trips and car-camping. Although the car REALLY needs a 'CAMPING MODE' where it can continuously supply 12 VDC (for fridge) and 5 VDC (USB) when the car is locked/unattended - powered from the more efficient DC-DC converter rather than the inefficient DC-AC inverter. (Just having the V2L adapter plugged into the car, even with no 240VAC devices plugged in, uses ~2kWh per day, which is a high overhead when just charging a phone or running an efficient 240VAC/12VDC fridge).
Good suggestions for BYD to implement
Good review Tom, your reviews are worth a lot more than most, because you review it based on the way you use it, which is how most people use an EV. Not just endless twisty roads, with an over reliance on a cars handling as well as efficiency measures and range estimates that are only based on highway speed driving.
Thanks! I try to talk about actual usage in my ownership updates 👍
Highway-speed driving is not so good for EVs.
@@oggyoggy1299 I still need to do my regen v cruising highway test for efficiency …
@@LudicrousFeed be interested to see how its going in 3 to 5 years time if you still have it , while it is interesting to see how they run at 6 months or a year , they are still basically brand new , long term tells more of a story you know what I mean .
the teslas don't have a jack and spare wheel , are the BYD models equipped with a spare ?
some people are not fussed by not having a spare , but to me it is a deal breaker .
@@mikldude9376 no spare in the BYD. Not many EVs have a spare, the 2024 KONA being a notable exception
Been very happy with my Premium after just over a month (minus a few days at the panelbeaters after copping a scratch at the school drop-off). I usually listen to podcasts on the way to/from work so the sound system hasn’t bothered me although even for music I find it “good enough”. Just tipped over 1500km and looking forward to heading to south west WA for a few nights next week.
Awesome! Sorry to hear about the scratch 🥲
Indeed, it is a good looking car
@@LudicrousFeed Thanks Tom! Happily the other party waited around to give me their details, and since we were both with the same insurer it was easy to sort it. And luckily for me there’s an EV specialist repairer 3km from home who not only had it done in three days, they charged up my car. Never had a full tank of petrol from a panel beater or garage!
wr
Good to hear that there are no regrets Tom :)
I bought my Performance knowing about the Telsa Supercharger network issue, it wasn't a deal breaker then, but very glad to hear that it's going to be attended to.
Charging by solar is good though our solar system is coming on 9 years old now, has paid for itself well & truly but would need an upgrade to be more efficient with the car charging. As it is, we have single phase wiring at home (coming on 70 year old house) & without rewiring the house, the best the installed wallcharger will do is about 4kw (better than the trickle charger) at 20amps, so not going to hit that 7kw max the Seal can take. Again, it's how the house is wired, a known issue, not a deal breaker & has never made me have to run down to a local DC charger. Just needs a bit of active manual monitoring during the day when working from home (eg., taking advantage of a daylight free period from my energy retailer) & setting up the midnight to 6am charge as needed.
The only issue I have with the Seal isn't mine but that of my partner who is in the market for a car now that her Audi has had the last rites, but she won't look at an EV, despite her acknowledged comfort & performance of the Seal as a passenger, she wants gears, tactile dials & analogue speedo etc, not touchscreens & digital displays. That's another battle for another day, lol.
So I knew what I was getting when I put the order in just before Christmas last year & how the car is 5 months later after delivery has only gotten better :) And when 2403 is installed & the Supercharging fix installed, it will be better again.
Think of how many other cars you can hand on heart say are better 6 months after you bought them (without spending a lot of money in aftermarket parts), that would be a very small list
Thanks for sharing your situation and yes it’s nice to have the OTAs to improve the car over time 🙏
Glad you are still happy with the Seal, Tom. I just viewed the Sealion and am excited for the Sealion 7 to come. The one thing I liked in the Sealion interior over the Seal is that the driver’s display is in a proper visor rather than being plonked on top of the dash like an afterthought.
That’s good to know! Integrated dash screen makes it look legit I suppose 😁
Yeah, I prefer that on the Sealion 6 also
The reason why I bought a Tesla was due to their Supercharger network. I've never been disappointed when arriving at a supercharger. I've tried some other chargers and most are working. But when they're out of order it can be very stressful.
Couldn’t agree more. And now that some of them are open to all EVs, it makes it easier to road trip in other brands too 👏
I notice that few people ever comment on this but an absolute deal breaker for me in not getting a Tesla Model 3 was the lack of a front camera!! Further the lack of indicator stalks and a front panel while not deal breakers pushed me to get the Seal Premium which has all these things and more (HUD). The only things I prefer about the Tesla are its auto-park and FSD both which are unavailable in the Seal.
Well, Autopark and “FSD” is also currently unavailable for Tesla vehicles in Australia
Thank you for your detailed reviews - your earlier ones definitely helped us take the plunge and get a Seal with the novated lease. Such great value and a real pleasure to drive. Lots of people at work very interested in the car with many questions (and compliments!).
It’s my pleasure and I’m glad you’ve found them helpful 🙏
I have admired your balanced view of this vehicle and the brand in general. I appreciate you are super educated, but I would still argue it's very hard to offer this sort of viewpoint when you have been so immersed in a compelling ecosystem like Tesla. Its a little like an iPhone guy getting his first Android.
Your vox pops have been fair and balanced as far as I can tell. I have enjoyed them, well done.
Cheers man!
The aim of the channel has always been to get more people into EVs regardless of brand and to help people get the best out of each car
My experience 5 months in with the seal premium is similar to yours. Now about 11000km on the clock as a daily commuter Wollongong to Sydney and my only real gripe (aside from the traffic sign alerts, thank god I will be able to turn that off permanently soon!) is also the ICC. It has most definitely improved significantly from the suicidal state it was in originally and I am comfortable enough to use it on a straightish road, but a big issue I still have is that when you change lanes with ICC on it will assertively turn the wheel to (over-)"correct" your position in the lane (and then complain that you're out of the lane when it does over-correct), so need to make sure I have a prepared grip on the wheel. Otherwise amazing car, and I hope they keep iterating on that ICC as it has a lot of potential.
Thanks for sharing! I agree it’s not quite perfect but it’s almost there
I like the seal it looks like a proper car, a lot of EV cars look pretty silly.
If i hadn't planned to do something else, i would have looked at buying one of these Seal performance cars.
They’re certainly good value
Thank you for sharing your feedback. Love your videos..
Pleasure
Hi Tom, thanks for sharing the long term experience. One q, with the AC do you leave it swing automatically or you keep changing settings? Is it good enough in automatic swing?
In June 2024, I leave the AC on Auto and “Smart” and 25 deg
How are the led headlights at night? I am used to Matrix led headlights in my cars, so would be nice if updated BYDs started including Matrix led headlights like Tesla and not just standard led.
They’re not Matrix but they are more than adequate imo
Will be interesting what the mid-cycle refresh brings, would hope they fix the 7kW AC and up that to 11kW AC. How are the tyres or does the Seal come with the Conti EcoContact 6 already? Also improvements in infotainment system would be good didn't know about the sound system, was never sure what it was like and not a huge sound guy myself I just usually take whatever the manufacturer provides and goes with it. Would you look at selling it say at the 12 month mark and perhaps a XPeng G6 with its crazy charge curve and can see how it compares to the Seal, different class of car obviously being a CUV vs a Sedan I realise.
Yes Seal is equiped with Continental EcoContact already👍
- A lot more choice coming on the market for sure 🙏
my anticipation for Seal facelift will be 3.0evo platform, new blade batteries
That six months seems to have flown by !
Must admit , I am not sure which I prefer the look of as far as the new M3 or BYD Seal goes . Perhaps the seal by a whisker.
As far as my EV journey goes , I am still waiting for the Livewire to be repaired after the bump it got in February.
I have also received the first power bill since having the Model 3 SR+ , $379.29 with no special EV Tarif or working PV solar system (my solar system stoped working in February).
I have travled about 3100km in that time.
The car that the M3 replaced for daily duties drank 95 or 98 RON at a rate of 13.5 to 14L per 100 km , it was costing me over $100 a week to feed.
Amazing saving with your power bill even without solar or special tariff 👍👏
Lovely review, Tom! I've been checking out all your TH-cam videos, and I'm a big fan. I booked my BYD Seal Premium after seeing your reviews. Just like you, I went for the White and BYD Premium. Thanks for the detailed videos! :)
Quick question: Can we remove the middle passenger headrest in the back? I didn't check this during my test drive here in India.
Thank you 🙏 Yes I believe you can
Great review Tom. You go to the depth of information like the single phase charging which no other auto reviewer would.
Thanks! There are aspects of a review that can only be addressed with long term ownership
Thanks very much , a question : can you carry a golf bag (including a driverclub) in the trunk ?
The bag yes. The driver … you may need to fold one of the rear seats down
I am owning a BYD Dolphin since 10 months (23,000 km) and I am very impressed about the quality. My complaints are also the software and ADAS, which is quite over-sensitive. I heard, that the Seal is better. But I will try lane-keep-assist again after seeing your video.
The ADAS has thankfully been markedly improved since the recent OTA software updates 👍
So one of the great things about the BYD is the Tesla network?
Not gonna lie, the Tesla Supercharger network is almost essential for alleviating EV range anxiety where available - whether it be Tesla, BYD or other brand
Great review! How often do you have to service the car and what are the costs?
Thanks! Every 12 months: the fixed servicing costs are listed on the BYD Automotive Australia website
The worst safety feature is front cross traffic braking, which needs some fine tuning its to servere when it deploys, especially at roundabouts
Yes I’ve noticed that also
Are you concerned of the additional weight of the Seal premium 2320kg with a driver, compared to Tesla M3LR 1849kg affecting overall range.
Not something I really give much thought to day to day to be frank with you
Test drove the seal performance version yesterday. Acceleration was like nothing I've ever felt before. I can only imagine what the Tesla model 3 performance goes like. Apart from that it is very smooth and quiet. Suspension felt a bit floaty and i was expecting the stereo to sound much better than it did. Overall though quite a nice car
Good summary 👍
Is the hardware update available to all owners? Just bought one and am due for delivery in a few weeks.
If you bought a car that is post March-2024 build then your Seal will be compatible and therefore not require an upgrade. Full details: th-cam.com/video/w48zBLjv3g8/w-d-xo.html
May I know the sound/music system setup you are currently using?
I have the original Dynaudio system running usually either TuneIn, Spotify or Audible via Apple CarPlay
@@LudicrousFeed I mean the customised sound setting haha
I think I’m using the Dynamic setting?
I noticed in my update yesterday, my audio reactive lighting now works with wireless Android Auto. It used to be static lighting unless i switched to bluetooth or radio. Small things but definitely moving forward
Wooo! That’s a nice feature to have 😃
I concur with the ADAS improvements. With the last update, I'm so happy that the speed sign warnings can be turned off permanently now. My main remaining gripe is that wireless Android Auto can cut in and out. Otherwise, very pleased with my Seal.
Great to hear!
What hardware change did BYD make to the car to make it work with the V3 and V4 Superchargers? Is this something that will cost us to have fitted?
Check out my vlog about it: BYD Seal Tesla Supercharger V4 Experience Sydney Australia June 2024
th-cam.com/video/w48zBLjv3g8/w-d-xo.html
I had my 3 month service 2 months ago and I am still chasing up weekly for a warranty fix (couple of hardware issues). It’s great that most people’s experience with their seal has been positive. But when you actually have a problem with your seal, their communication is horrendous.
Sorry to hear this and hopefully you get it sorted soon 🙏
Your reviews helped me get to our byd seal premium, thanks Tom! We love the car so far so good.
Awesome! Glad you’ve found them helpful
Yes, I still love my Seal Performance. By far and Y the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. ❤
Great to hear!
This South African approves of your videos. I just wish BYD can launch the Seal here, so far we have the Dolphin and the Atto3. R899990 the asking price for the Atto3.
Thanks! Hopefully soon 🤞
Hi I enjoy your videos, very informative and helpful. I have a question though. Do you have any idea why most other EVs especially BYD don’t make the regenerative brakes stronger so it can bring the car to a stop without having to press the brake pedal, just like the Tesla? Thanks mate, keep up the good work.
OPD (one pedal driving) is available in other cars, just not the BYD. I’ve tested OPD in Hyundai, Kia, MG, Ford … the list goes on
@@LudicrousFeed oh ok pardon my limited knowledge on other EVs 😁
Just got my seal premium..100% recommend turning off emergency braking every time. It seems like the seal doesn't understand roundabouts well and I've been thrown forward by unexpected breaking twice.
Hmm interesting, this used to be the case when I first took delivery but since the OTA software updates, the ADAS has improved a lot to the point where I don’t need to fiddle with it before each drive anymore
The lease on my ICE car is ending early next year. Got the option to pay the balloon and keep the car or sell it and get a new car. Thinking of a change like an EV car which make sense on a new lease as there is currently no GST on EV and there is FBT exemption, that is the repayment is 100% deducted before taxable income for the duration of the lease which considerably reduce the cost of the EV. On the other side i have to think if its better to have an ICE or EV vehicle in terms of battery safety, ongoing cost (Insurance, Servicing, battery replacement etc.). Too much to think about for someone who hasn't drive an EV yet. While i have no doubt Tesla engineering is top notch, I kinda find inside a bit boring. I would prefer to have a Heads up display which i'm use to with my current car and also the console behind the steering wheel. I don't want to take my eyes off the road to watch the centre console everytime how fast i'm going. People say you'll get use to it but I don't think I will. Hopefully Model Y Juniper will bring some changes to my liking. If it is, then Tesla will be my first choice, otherwise will look into other model. I have been looking the Polestar 4 and will be interested to see what Xpeng and Sealion has to offer. Any good advice from you Tom?
I’d personally wait … there are some good offerings in the next few months including ZEEKR and XPeng
@@LudicrousFeed Thanks
if Zeekr AU give you a Zeekr X as a long term loan very soon, or they sell you a brand-new one at a huge-heavy discount, will you be selling this BYD Seal Premium? might be worth it, no point having 3+1 bEV’s of similar quality/level (+1 is the 2015 Model S you still own) at the same time in household with only 2 active drivers. treat the BYD Seal depreciation as cost to run the utube channel and that cost helped you get the Zeekr X and recent overseas trip in business class & accomodation & meal covered trip
Options to consider if/when this occurs
Is all the Tesla network open to non-tesla cars? I thought it was a selected amount.
Correct. Only select locations: check the Tesla app for the latest
BYD ICC uses 1 front camera and 3 mmWave radar sensors with less than 10TOPS processing power. It’s not their latest Dipilot system but definitely good enough at this price range.
The tech may be there but the practical application is not great … yet
Thanks for the video. Would you swap the Seal for the Highland, now?
Happy with the Seal honestly
@@LudicrousFeedI was in the same position as you. Had the Highland on order but cancelled and took delivery of the Seal before Christmas instead. That said, we also still have a Model 3, so it was a no brainer to get something different. The plan was to swap the old Model 3 with the Highland but the Seal was too good to pass up. I didn't want to let go of the Tesla either, so I guess the Seal accelerated our transition to a two EV household.
@@vasil7410 best of both worlds 👏
Ever ran into rapid gate when the fastcharging drops to 80 from 150 when the battery hits 52C? Haven’t tested it fully in mine yet but seen some reviewers noticing this. Agree with you on the sound, it needs more clarity and precense in mids and highs. Lane keeping is ok but as a previous tesla owner I totaly agree with you. Highway no problems for me but yeah others roads are hit or miss.
Haven’t done much DC charging yet tbh, just been focusing on day trips but might be worth a test now that the Tesla V3/4 SC issue is fixed in my car
@@LudicrousFeed Yeah I will go on a long trip next week and will test on the Ionity 400kW chargers, over powered yes sir. Seen car pulling 152-153 and reporting 149,2 into battery for a 25% charge so no way near getting hot during such a short charge session. My v3/v4 was fix with the 1.1 release so maby the hardware was already there. 1.2 now here in Sweden so just got the wireless apple car play, 🥳
Thanks for the video. I also bought a BYD Seal a few months ago (I am resident of Brazil). Great car. Loving it. The ICC I turned off before it'd drive me mad.
Glad you’re also enjoying it!
Hi there, i pick up my seal tomorrow. I am a little excited, my first new car! I have a question about whether a tethered or untethered charger is best for me. I will be regularly undertaking relatively long road trips (450-500kms) and wonder whether having a type 2 to type 2 in the car is overkill or not. Cheers
I think it doesn’t hurt to have a Type 2 cable in the car if you’re doing regular long trips. I have a coupon code for this one: evse.com.au/product/5-metre-type-2-to-type-2-ev-charging-cable-22kw | Code: TESLATOM for 5% off site wide

Great review, thanks. Waiting for sealion7, or Xiao Peng or Juniper…which one should I get Tom? I will be replacing my Y and love the autopilot yet I wish the I hope for a comfort seat
I’m curious about the XPENG G6 given what I saw in China - the specs look good too but it’ll depend a lot on what the servicing and warranty is like
I have a friend who's eagerly waiting for the Sealion 7, wants to get one as his first EV. He's not a Tesla fan, not sure why, but the SL7 definitely looks good on paper! We also have the Atto 3 but he's not a fan of the interior, which of course is very subjective.
i'll wait a bit more when more 800v cars come to the country....
Just saw Bjørn Nylands BYD Seal 1000km challenge.....quite a different experience.
Admittedly I don't drive 1000km on a regular basis, it's good enough for my daily ride 😁
@@LudicrousFeedand probably not at 130km/h
majority of us BYD seal owners are delighted with the car, therefore I would take Bjorn's video with a grain of salt
He actually quite likes the car. His criticism was very specific, related to the lack of adequate cooling of the battery during DC fast charging. That said, the overall average charge rate for the Seal during his test was still high enough to have it rank reasonably well across all the cars he has tested.
@@vasil7410 I haven't watched his 1000km challenge yet, but I noticed in the other test he did recently the temnparature of the battery cells as an average between the minimum and maximum was probably lower than the Tesla over the charging curve, it was also only marginally slower to fully charge it compared to the NMC long range Tesla. When he craps on about rapid gating whenever he tests BYD products it just seems like a bit of an overreach and beatup to me. Tesla's whilst they don't charge particulalrly quickly are very efficient though so will travel further on a given charge which is also critical in the 1000km review.
I went with Tesla M3 due to software, one pedal driv, changing and effective drive chain. But the seal looks good
No doubt the Tesla software is a huge selling point 👍
Loving my seal. Just done the software update. Just need to get apple carplay to work😂
Haha yes activating Wireless CarPlay requires some patience 😅

Hi Tom. Thanks for the review. What's been your long term average energy consumption?
I usually sit anywhere between 14-17Wh/km most days
We where talking about vampire drain during parking and it hit me that the doesn’t seem to suffer from this like the teslas and others. How’s yours doing?
Yes I agree - there's minimal phantom drain in my BYD Seal. Having no Sentry Mode and a Power Off button probably helps 😅
Hi when will you do a zero mile test ? Curious how far the seal goes
I don't imagine he would do that with his own car: it's not good for the battery.
I've done it with the Atto 3: th-cam.com/video/wo9u53VmLpY/w-d-xo.html The power is throttled below 5% so I'm not really that keen to repeat it with my Seal. My highway range tests with the Seal give me and the viewers enough information:

Thanks for the update, good to know you're still happy with it after 6 months. I've had the Dynamic version for a month now, can't compare it to owning a Tesla but compared to my 10 year old ICE it leaps and bounds ahead in terms of features and luxury.
That’s very true - for the price, its good value
I find the ICC to work fine on its own, but yea the lane keeping component is still way off where it needs to be. Useful in slow moving heavy traffic but not good to rely on when moving faster.
Agreed yes the CC part of the ICC is fine and seems to keep strictly to the set speed with minimal issues
Agreed, Wife hates the Lane Keeping.
if the RWD AU RHD 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 Dynamiq was AU$59,000 driveaway NSW (its about AU$72,000 driveaway) would you buy the Ioniq 6 Dynamiq [53 kWh battery] over the Seal Premium [82 kWh battery] also AU$59,000 driveaway? At the moment there are only 3 bEV sedan's in AU that are RWD and below AU$75,000 - BYD Seal Premium, Tesla Model 3 [60 kWh battery], Hyundai Ioniq Dynamiq
Hyundai will need to discount the Ioniq 6 if it wants to sell more cars
@@LudicrousFeed i like the look of the Hyundai Ioniq 6 Dynamiq [53 kWh battery] inside & out, but after having a close look at the specs, it should be no more than AU$47,990 driveaway NSW (ideally $45,990 driveaway) AU$72,000 driveaway is way too much, since the 82 kWh battery Seal Premium is only AU$58,990 driveaway
1/2 year already!! still thinking about your japan trip..... going back again?? yen conversion rate nothing but spectacular
Trust me I’m always looking for an excuse to head back to Japan 😆
Bought a tesla model 3 because of the superior safety, specifically the active driving features that work flawlessly on freeways.
Basic AP on the highway works pretty well usually ... just watch out for the occasional phantom braking episode when passing big trucks
@@LudicrousFeed not just trucks , cars too , very exciting at highway speeds when you have a loaded kenworth behind you , you cannot trust these things .
the other thing is , humans do not do well doing half tasks , if relying on the vehicle to do half the work humans tend to have the mind. wander off , lose alertness , and spatial awareness which is extremely dangerous , because when things go pear shaped and the car tries to steer you off road or phantom brake on a freeway..
All this technology sounds good until its not , but you need to stay on the ball mate .
Stay safe .
Glad you said about the software updates. Has been my major concerns, we are looking at taking the ev step. Thank you for your review!
Pleasure! It’s a much better car with the OTA updates since I took delivery
I'm so happy with the new speed sign warning sounds that I've left them switched on!
Yup! It’s a lot more subtle now
Just picked up our premium yesterday. The drive back up to Ballarat was lovely!
Funny though that the tesla superchargers here are the only bloody superchargers in the state that don't allow non-tesla cars to charge there.
Congrats! Hopefully they’ll eventually open the entire network to all EVs
Curious to know your thoughts on the shark
I won't be reviewing it on the channel given it is a Hybrid
@@LudicrousFeed thanks for the comment. I understand, the Shark certainly looks like it could propel the BYD brand in Aus and certainly shift perception toward Chinese cars
You have to recognise exactly when the HUD ADAS features go from green (engaged) to white (dropped out) WITHOUT WARNING.
I've found that the ACC seems to get 'distracted' and be slow to resume/keep up........ very human 😊. A digital dropout ???.
It has stalks AND ON THE CORRECT SIDE!!!. Wow. Better quality, quieter and more comfortable than that other brand ....ALSO.
Yes good point about the lane keeping switching off without warning!
You have a bigger charging loose due to only 1 phase ,230 Ac. With 2 or more phases you have 400 Vac between phases, there for the conversation to 400Vdc are more effective
Hmm good to know
still waiting for my premium😢 its been 4 months of waiting here in indonesia😅
*there is a slight agreement issue between the goverment and BYD..but its already taken care of..
What agreement issue?
@@LudicrousFeed BYD need to open factory in indonesia by 2025, to avoid high taxes (and they can import maximum 20.000 unit per year)
now total sales is around 5000 unit,
pretty hot sales..
the issue is (not sure why but our officer top brass dont want to sign the agreement)
the issue is (not sure why but our officer top brass dont want to sign the agreement) maybe they want money lol
I think you took delivery on the 29th of Dec. I know because I took delivery on the 30th.
Nice 👍
I got to go sit in a Seal today for the first time. I was too tall to fit. I’m so incredibly disappointed. The guy at the BYD showroom said “were you expecting S-class amounts of room?” 😮
Haha yeah the Seal isn’t THAT big 😁
@@LudicrousFeed @jonathanfields4ever - JF do you think you would fit in a soon to be released SeaLion7 bEV (RHD AU)? which ice cars (brand&exact-model) do you normally tend to find comfortable?
@@_Sensei_8 I asked the salesman and he said they plan on releasing one new model a year here. He wasn’t sure what was next, but he thought the Sea Lion was a likely candidate.
I actually drive a 60kWh LEAF with no issues. I easily got into the Atto 3 there at the showroom too.
@@jonathanfields4ever BYD AU has officially confirmed the RHD SeaLion7 SUV bEV will be in Australia October/November 2024
@@_Sensei_8 I live in Japan 👍
Would you ever consider taking the car on a defensive and advanced driving course? It'd be a good way to demonstrate the safety features and dynamic abilities of current EVs. Highly recommend the one run by Driving Solutions at SMSP.
Yup I think that would be valuable
I'm enjoying my Dynamic. The speed recognition needs an update thou. Very happy overall. Just got solar panels installed at home (waiting for new meter) and was very nice to just go for a Sunday drive because I could.
Nice! Something very satisfying about charging your EV with solar 🌞
Apparently the Seals in Europe have an option to use GPS data for the speed display on the instrument panel, instead of TSR. I'd much prefer this.
What company and solar system did you get?
@@pentaverse8628 I live in a regional area so my choices are limited and more so by availability of installers.
Sunboost but with Fronius inverter (installers unable to install with optimal system layout).
@@pentaverse8628 30x440w panels with 10kw inverter on 2 orientations (20 sub optimal as on a flat roof). For 3 months will only operate at 80% but so much better than nothing😃
I own a Seal U 2024 and what I can say is that the Infotainment system is great, for me at least, since I am a software engineer and I can install any app from the App Store. I even have ps2 games and a controller to play with it while charging. I can watch tv and use native apple music, waze with splitscreen, which is way better than using Apple CarPlay
Yes there is that ability to side load for those inclined 👍
Looking forward to the Sea Lion 7 coming here, BYD has some classy cars now, Would have gone the Seal but it's low ground clearance was a concern for me.
Yes that will be very compelling for many
Sadly I don't think the Song L will come to Australia, since that is sort of a middle point between the Seal and Sea Lion. Not as tall as the Sea Lion, but taller and more roomy than the Seal, along with a nice hatch in the back and superior dragon face styling compared to the BYD Ocean cars.
It’s called the Tesla stretch
Yup although prices have dropped a lot which has helped make an EV more compelling to many people
Happy to hear that you’re having a good experience with your BYD. I won’t be able to because of stupid American politicians
I’m sure Chinese automakers will eventually find a way to sustainably enter American markets the same way Japanese and Korean OEMs are now quite prevalent
Like BYDs but paying 189 for the 5 minute service is a bit much… 😢
Fair enough - once a year checkup is probably not a bad thing for a complex piece of machinery that I use everyday
@@LudicrousFeedagreed but in 5 min you can only check that much…
@@loving_dad_explorer who says it's a five minute service?
I don't pretend to know every little detail that is performed at a car service but from what they showed me during my 1 month visit, it seemed quite thorough: th-cam.com/video/Jer8fxUI1GA/w-d-xo.html They presumably also torque everything etc like they would for any other car
@@jonpaxman the owners on BYD Australia forums
My take on BYD is that it is also a political statement same way like Russian cars were decades ago. Just my feeling in current geopolitical environment.
I guess it will be the same for other Chinese brands coming to Aus namely ZEEKR, XPENG etc
People's convictions are only as strong as their wallets. 😂
Nice detailed update and great to know you're still happy with no 'real' regrets 6 months later - THANKS for the review! 👍
Pleasure 🙏
I took ownership of my premium a month ago, and was pretty ecstatic. My wife has the 2022 Tesla RWD.
I love the aesthetic both exterior and interior. Its similar design to ICE makes it easier to use and the HUD is something i do like.
The software is such a huge let down though. I feel like its such an integral part of the driving experience thats been completely neglected.
Yup agreed the software needs work
Dynaudio was a Danish brand, but now own by a Chinese company.
Good to know. The audio does let the overall experience down sadly
@@LudicrousFeed are you sure you didn't damage it when you did Kar'Karaoke a few weeks ago? 😁
lol quite possibly 😆
Dynaudio a let down seriously? Dynaudio is serious audiophile brand as far as home audio is concern. I'm surprised if it's a let down.
Go sit in the Seal and tell me it’s not
Considering the Zeekr and XPENG are coming to Australia, will you also buy their cars?😂
Hoping to do some testing to start with when they arrive
I like the BYD offerings in Australia and would almost certainly buy one if all I wanted was a car with an electric motor. The thing is that I want to purchase more than just a plain EV powered car. I want the technology that Tesla’s offer and really, no one else is even close in that regard.
No doubt Tesla are the market leaders currently when it comes to software and UX
Regret not buying the Tesla M3.
You do?
Good review , I think the bigger battery is definitely the way to go , if you are thinking of keeping the car long term , how is the battery going so far. ? , cheers
@@honestjohn6222 Seems ok so far but I think it’s too early to tell
