HOW I MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it.

Hey there all you beautiful People ? We’re back again. Now which of you missed last weeks total stack value video🤔.
Today I melt down a decent sized 30HP aluminium outboard motor with mix results . As you’ll see in the video it’s been bloody hot over here and the last 5 of the 7 days have been a total fire ban. Not to worry I got most of the melting done, and even went to my friends house to melt there, Now sit back relax and enjoy the video but most importantly, have a happy safe weekend and see you all next Friday 👋🏻😁.

Story time: Johnson was merged with Evinrude long ago... So Evinrude & Johnson, I think they called themselves OMC, Outboard Marine Corporation.... A guy named Ralph Evinrude ran it for a long time....
His Dad was Ole Evinrude. He basically invented the outboard motor. In Milwaukee no less.
I know you're a Harley Davidson guy.... So the Davidsons were trying to get the carburetor right on their new motorized bike back at the turn of the century, and they were struggling....
They called up Ole Evinrude, he took a look at their motor, and made them some carburetors, which worked great, and it was a big moment in the development of those first handful of motorcycles.....

Hey, D! I melted my first metal and made my first little castings the other day! I had a little bit of zinc in an electric motor around the armature I kept after cutting out the copper winding, so I took my little propane torch out, popped the zinc into a stainless steel bowl, and proceeded to blast it carefully until it just melted. Scabbed off the dross and then used the armature itself as the mold. Made a little crab-like figure, but since it wasn’t a proper mold, it didn’t want to come out and I had to peel away the steel layers one at a time. Had enough metal left to pour one more little “coin” so I used another motors armature, this one was just round and the coin popped right out after cooling. It wasn’t much, but it was cool and I have these little chunky pieces of zinc, the crab-like one I am gonna carry around from now on - my first pour!
Thanks for introducing me, and I am sure many, many others, into this hobby! Next, I have some lead to melt just to sell to bullet casting guys, but need some proper PPE for that. Skritches to the pup, see ya next week!!! I am off to finally watch the video now.

Fun use of an old log as an anvil. Surprised that old, dry thing didn't splinter to pieces. I suppose aluminum isn't that tough. it's an impressive haul.
This forging method is something I've never seen before. Very clever, makes sense for huge pieces.
Jarrah's harder than any wood you've ever dealt with. It grows in such a dry climate that it's so dense insects have trouble chewing on it. It's pretty interesting in an arbourist sort of way

Good video, BigStack. Awesome haul! Looks like you need some chaps for when you're smashing engines. 😀 At one time, I was a small engine mechanic, so I figured you'd get a lot of aluminum from that, but I'm surprised how much it actually was! That's a LOT!
I know there's a lot of paint that is burning, making a lot of the slag, but is there also impurities from the alloy that are making some of it? That seems like a heck of a lot of slag.
I think the safe should be black with gold stenciling on it. Give it a bit of the old look. 😀

Thanks for the great video geez reminds me of cable jointing days, lead wiping and preparing the 50/50. 50% lead 50% tin. We used to melt that and ladel it onto a sweat ferrule. This was the days before using a cable crimper. Our teacher back in apprenticeship days would say don’t do this boys and had the garden hose aimed at the melting pot. We were all behind this wall when all the metal was ejected and came raining down. Luckily away from us and then there was a day at work were the boredom set in so we decided to melt the Nokia 3310, we’ll just replicate the scene from Terminator 2 were Arnie melts down.. oh the joy, The crud that you scooped out of the top of the crucible reminds me of what was left of the phone, ha ha lol Thanks again for the video cheers
I love seeing the molten aluminum crystalize as it cools. I would love if you could give us a slow-motion macro shot of the top of a freshly poured bar of aluminum as it solidifies so we can see that crystal structure forming in detail.

Great melt, I was waiting for the center to shrink and it didn't, then you said obviously it's an alloy, I thought obviously I needed to be told because I just woke up and I take about 2 hours to function properly......
The crucible shaped aluminum looked good then you set it on the shell and I thought so BigstackD is a reloader too but doesn't mess with the small stuff! Take care.
FORCE tool kits are pretty resonable, ask your mate at CEE. Though that sledgy does a good job
The melting pot with the drain holes is a nice idea. Is the slag just sticking to the furnace? If so, great strainer and maybe you're on to a new way of melting without worry of slag. That frozen aluminum in the crucible did look rather awesome, I imagine if you had a more steady flow you could make one whole solid piece. Thanks for all your hard work that goes into these videos.
