• CORRECTIONS Episode 83...
Late Night with Seth Meyers
/ latenightseth
My parents just got back from the USA (we’re Australian) and I had one request: please bring me back a Corrections mug from the NBC store. The specific instruction was “the mug with the weird animal on it.” And they succeeded! Easy as Albanese. All I need now is a Corrections coaster to not put my new mug on.
corrections coaster / gavel plinth, surely?
;- )
absolutely adore this story💙🐾
U mean a coaster to put ON your mug?
I love everything about this!! A true jackal!! ❤
@@vincedillo5709 No, it's not that simple. Rather like why didn't the chicken cross the road? See? Much more difficult to answer.
I don’t think Seth and crew gets enough credit for how well they’ve integrated the web based audience into a network show
i think..that may be why they were emmy-nominated
@@Caryl_Maria_Art I was thinking more in-line with the conversation about the aging format of “late night talk shows” and less about industry popularity contests
Seriously. I only watch on YT.
@@Kalyse.same. And it was that way for years before Covid but Corrections just made everything better
Somebody should write a paper about it!
I'm a big fan of Corrections
Somebody should give this guy a talk show
he should try stand up
He should try out for SNL if they need someone to replace the ones leaving.
hey I like the guy but let's not get ahead of ourselves
He only needs a podcast, and he's done it all
I love how Corrections is like a serialized tv show where you have to watch from the beginning to really understand what is going on.
But do we understand what’s going on?! 😂😂
Just sit back and enjoy the ride!@@EH23831
that's the neat part, we don't @@EH23831
right!! me too!
I don't really get what he was talking about. My first one was 82 and I didn't see any joke where I felt like I was missing a setup. I'm sure there are jokes that are better if you've seen 81, but it isn't really necessary. Heck, the only part of this one that you really need 82 to understand is the bit with the coaster.
I was ready to jackal about Medusa being a name and not a species, and then he hits me with the Gorgonzola punchline. Top notch.
He still said "every Medusi" as if every was used with plural but we'll let that one pass.
when we all know Medusa is just one of three gorgon sisters - along with Stheno, Euryale, - no Zolas!
But Seth always likes to go the extra Émile....
I was literally typing that up when he hit with that. Great job.

I like how in Seth's mind we're more likely to all die out before he stops doing this show 😂
Jackals are short lived (lie + ved)
I can't believe he didn't entertain the notion that there would be another generation of jackals who would carry it on
He'll definitely just keep showing up to do Corrections to whatever random people are around long after he's no longer actually employed to do Late Night.
Could be we're all just gonna die sooner than we think.

As a correction, the single Corrections episode before the writers strike had a lot of viewers because we had to watch it again and again, but the last three episodes of Corrections before this one had steadily increasing viewers, that exceeded the average views 7 months ago. Obviously, discerning viewers appreciate the value of factual accuracy in comedy and Corrections callback Easter eggs have now found their way into Late Night, making it essential viewing. Meanwhile, many other late night hosts have absolutely no standardized quality control procedures, like Corrections and Surprise Inspection; at best, we are fortunate that these hosts did not become aeronautical engineers for the safety of both passengers and those on the ground.
Please, please, please don’t cancel Corrections. I’m a 65 year old female and I look forward to watching every Friday. I was also having withdrawals during the strike! Jackals keep it coming!
I like u 🎉
Totally agree I love it that it seems like it’s just the crew and some of the writers there. Kinda like Friday beers after work
i’m with you!💙🐾
Same here! Corrections deserves an Emmy. 💙
In what part of the country are you Leslie ?
Italian here. The 'e' in Provolone is only silent in English. It's not silent when Italians pronounce it. So Seth (almost) nailed the original pronunciation. 😘👌
True, but that doesn't stop it from being a worse MLP joke cheese than mascarpone 😢
My sister once asked about Corrections because i was laughing so hard. It broke my heart to realize she'd never be able to understand this unless she watched all the episodes. We're in it for the long haul
Same but not from my sister. I really enjoy and need corrections and it’s a team work on their side and on our side. ❤️❤️❤️
I doubt my sister is more than vaguely aware of Seth and the show. I would give anything to have a sister who would be interested in such things, even if she wouldn’t likely go back and get on board with Corrections….
I started watching relatively recently! You don't get all the jokes, but it only takes a few episodes to pick up on the main recurring ones.
Oh how great that she gets to start from the beginning and has all that laughter ahead of her.
I started my brothers/mom on this episode prior! 82! No jokes not to understand except maybe the moon guy but that’s not hard to get so…perfect episode. :) it leads well into this one and both have more skits/ impressions than average so very beginner friendly! There’s universal references to cuisine, Looney Tunes, & Hannibal Lector. (It also kinda re-introduces Schumacher.)
Gorgonzola.
I don't know what the writers got in the WGA deal, but this joke alone proves that whatever it was, it was worth it. 👏
Corrections is all Seth. He reads our comments and writes his own jokes to them.
I didn't get that one. :(
@@TheRealGSmith Medusa was one of the three Gorgons in Greek mythology. 🤓
@@staceysugdenWhoa! The explanation actually makes this funny.
That was a loooong set up for that joke! 😂😂

That joke got a good chuckle out of me. Kudos.
Been watching since episode 1. At this point I do feel like we all have a hand on the truck waiting to see who is the last of us who can hang on.
Backsides hanging out the bus windows!
My hand will never leave this Truck😅
I will never go anywhere. This is literally one of the highlight of my week. I felt like I was going through withdrawal during the strike.
My favorite segment. I'm 65, so not much longer for me is my guess.
For real. I'm posting just for proof I'm a part of this.
I love how Seth spends several minutes of this show on impressions of his security guards, who basically only the crew has met. Talk about knowing your audience! ❤
I love the regular show and all, but I must confess I am motivated to stay caught up so I can watch corrections with all the appropriate context even if I don't catch the "mistakes" myself.
This week's corrections was killer, never stop.
SAME
same. Even though Corrections is uploaded before "news of the week". I watch that first (plus the closer looks) so I'm good to go.
The subtitles on Corrections have gotten really good. They note the pronunciation of doth[duth] and the emphasis of "IN-jected/IN-gested" among other things. Corrections sure has come far
Ive been watching years without captions but yea theyve cone a long ways
Up late and can't sleep because I'm super anxious because I have 2 MRI's and a very serious doctor's appointment in the morning. Having this upload was truly such a relief to take my mind off of it for awhile.

The parasocial climate you've created with the Corrections-loving jackals is truly something special ❤ love that you're continuing the series for us, even if your audience for Corrections is limited.
Had never thought of myself as a parasocialist, but here we are...
It's particularly moving that he's carrying on for us despite no longer being Emmy-nominated for this category of side projects not aired on tv. I thought the Emmy was his primary reason for doing this impossibly giddy, frothy, farfetched series of encounters that unexpectedly turned a dark cramped youtube comments section into a bright shining sphere full of camaraderie and joy and giddy froth. Outstanding! Thank you, Seth & team! Thank you, jackals! 💕🐾
It's not parasocial if he's actually interacting with us though. That's just social.
@spociecha9084 Wow. Thank you! I'm so very used to being called a cynical malcontent *sshole that your kind words about jackalry are causing me to have a borderline fatal allergic reaction! But if I do cash in my chips tonight, I'll now do so with a big smile on my face. So, again: thanks!
@@s.pottedjackalSeriously, this is one of the few comments sections where i’m not scared to look because I know there won’t be the usual dark idiocy you mentioned. No hateful comments, no trolls being ugly just to provoke. It’s such a relief.
(Feels weird saying that about a comments section on TH-cam, usually I try not to look … but curiosity… I check them out, lose hope in humanity, then hit that X in the corner like running out the door and slamming it behind me. Lol 🧡🍁🍂🎃
Everytime I tell my partner about corrections it ends up being 15 minutes of bcakstory to get to why it was funny.
He always says, "I'm glad you guys have your thing"
Now that we don’t have to worry about Emmy eligibility criterion, can we creep up to 30+ min Corrections 🤞
I want to see him just go off and end up making a corrections longer than the actual show.
I don't know if that's creepy or sneaky🤓
oh here’s hoping! 🤞🏼
This is the show that I missed the most when the strike was on
It’s fantastic that we are no longer restricted by time!
"we're not picking up new people" absolutely destroyed me. Seth dropped that line like a brick from the top of 30 Rock.
edit: I shouldn't be this visibly exhilarated that my correction re: slide to answer was mentioned. But I am. Leave me alone.
edit 2: Jesus. The conversation I just had with my father, trying to explain the basis of my dubiously justified pride.... Let's just say Seth won in the end.
If something I posted got mentioned, I'd sing and dance "I've Got A Golden Ticket"
A lego brick?
@@oceanoflotion8630 I see what you mean, but you've got to know that in that context, at best, a Jackal is the person pointing out that the golden ticket is a fake, or more likely, we're a Arthur Slugworth figure lurking around in some alleyway trying to point out the relative financial merits, to a family experiencing significant and traumatic poverty, of exchanging the notionally valuable golden ticket for a a significant tangible sum.
@@signaltonoise.online3729 typed like a real OG Jackal.
I feel like the dance sequence in "500 Days of Summer" is just as worthy of being a cultural reference that "I've Got a Golden Ticket" is, but hasn't gained quite the same audience. Probably because the song used was an old hit, and not an original number.
I'm so glad to be on this train. Found it here a few episodes in and it's something I look forward to each week. Please keep doing this. Easily the funniest thing on Late Night.
Same.
New viewers!!! They’re over here! Do you have any knitting skills? Seth is big in the knitting algorithm.
“I’d love to eat a handful of almonds in the dark” is the hardest I’ve laughed in ages. I literally snorted
Medusa is her name; Gorgon is her species, so Gorgonzola, killed it. Well done.
Actually I believe Perseus killed it.
Did you hear the one about the demisexual demi-gorgon demi god demiurge demi levato's demi-plane's demise?
Medusa has two sisters, Sthenno and Euryale. So, I guess they're three Gorgonzolae Muensters.
It would actually be perfectly fine for Harry Potter to be wearing New Balance, as the books are set between 1991 and 1998, and New Balance opened their first UK factory in 1982.
Also, Harry is frequently mentioned to be wearing sneakers, and given he is financially stable in the later books, wearing New Balance would be appropriate. Even in the early books, given he wears Dudley’s hand-me-downs, and Dudley is given the best of everything, it would also be feasible for Harry to wear them
They were 'dad trainers' in the UK in the 90s. At least where I grew up they were...
i can imagine Seth's response to this:
something along the lines that we all know Harry was a Converse kid.
Maybe he wears Champions.
@@gmun2248 No way - although I guess it depends where in the UK. I wore NB's with pride as a 20-something citizen of Edinburgh in the 90s. Dad trainers were probably more something like Reeboks.
Seth needs to slowly increase his drinks glasses with each Corrections, till in Jan his desk is just littered with 20+ glasses scattered around (and one unused coaster / gavel plinth)
Never mentioning it once.
I was waiting for the 2nd glass to stack on top of the coaster on the 1st glass.
Um actually, it's not a coaster. It's a gavel plinth.
@@CCSMrChen They can also be used as a coaster. They are like a Swiss Army Knife that protects surfaces, but I wouldn't recommend that you use a plinth as a Swiss Army Knife. Quite the conundrum.
I do love the dedication to a bit whose audience may only become for insular and niche.
I'm telling you he's Tyler Durden now. He's secretly growing this thing!
The segment starting at 16:16 is the exact reason I watch CORRECTIONS every week. Hearing the crew laugh at those inside jokes that most of us won't fully understand is everything and warms my heart. Thank you
I really hope Jim and Jeff also see this and think it's just as funny
A 21 minute Corrections episode? Just what I need.
I'm with you on the bagull joke, Seth, that deserved a lot more laughs than it got! 😂
I feel like the reason it didn't hit as hard as it should was because he didn't put enough emphasis on the "bay" portion of the word (phrase?) to distinguish from the sea or herring gulls. We just told him that he needs to do that to emphasize the difference between two similar words (or things). This is what he gets for not taking the jackals' sound advice IMO...
I had a delayed laugh on it but it was a LOL
Bay-Gull***
@@DemandTruthYeah if he had said bayGULL it would have been much clearer.
*Cartoon Planet - Episode 2 - "Monkey Trouble" (1998)*
Brak: Zorak! Hey- Hey Zorak! Why do seagulls fly over the sea?
Zorak: Eh. I'll bite. Why?
Brak: Because if they flew over the bay, they'd be baygulls! Ya get it? Bagels? I don't get it. Do you get it?
Zorak: It's not a matter of getting it or not getting it. The question is: Is it worth bothering to get? I'm sure if I was interested in getting it, it would be gotten. Oh, you can be sure of that! But even if I did CHOOSE to get it, and then got it, what would I GET? I mean, what would be in it for me?
Brak: Okay! Here's another one. Why were the little strawberries upset?
Zorak: (Sigh) Because they were in a jam.
Brak: No! Because they were in a j- ohh! You heard it.
Zorak: Yes, I heard it. About a hundred years ago.
Brak: (Sad) You already heard the joke about the strawberries.
Zorak: That's right! So... Brak. Know any good jokes?
Brak: No, not many.
Seth underestimates how much we use our human days to binge content
This is not a popular enough comment!
The only thing stopping me from almost constantly rewatching corrections from the beginning is how playlists work on TH-cam. I use the red progress bar to keep track of which ones I have watched, but if you're rewatching a playlist, the videos will all still have the red bar from the previous time. The only solution to this that I have found is using a new account.
Also, the whole rewatching thing may be responsible for the number of views on each corrections going down. The earlier ones have more rewatches because they are older, but it's still the same number of people.
@@lisahenry20 isn’t it wild how many ways the infamous and all knowing wonderful google/TH-cam has the most basic of errors
Part of me wants see the Leave Him Alone bit done in defense of Seth against the Jackals. Maybe for the 100th episode?
Oh god that would be so good!
“Wally, you know I hate the jackals, right? Anyway this one jackal…”
“Leave ‘em alone!”
Yeahhhhh!!!!
Looking forward to the degradation ❤
I'd pass on that option if he could have a specific joke contest with Dennis Miller!
I genuinely wish I could share this segment with people but it really feels like it's impossible to just jump in on any given episode. Like I've been watching this for so long and I truly don't know how I ended up here but now I look forward to it every week.
I think you could jump in if you were willing to suffer through a couple of episodes until some threads started to connect. Even better if you watch it with somebody who could explain some of what you didn’t get. There would still be some laughs in each episode because sometimes Seth explains a little of the context. I think it would be enough to draw some people in, even this late!
I jumped in mid-way and found it hilarious right off. It’s the only show and segment that left a hole in my life during the strike. Just introduce them to News of the Week followed by Corrections and the Jackal section and hopefully they take to it 😁
I went back to the beginning of Corrections when the show returned after the strike ended. 10/10 would recommend.
Discovered it when Seth had first angered the knitting community and was able to follow along so as a late joiner....
Anywho, my Friday morning ritual includes watching Corrections and then getting on with my day with a bit of pep in my step.
Glad it's back and who needs an Emmy anyway...
You’re good on the provolone joke. The final “e” is pronounced in Italian; it is dropped only certain regional American accents.
i dropped an e once.
it felt very good.
also good to me. i thought the joke was using the pronunciation of provolone with the dropped final “e” phoneme but adding the diminutive suffix “-y”
Surely it's pronounced everywhere, except in Idiotsville. I'll never understand why people come here to trumpet their ignorance. It's like so many guys on dating apps with their, "ACTUALLY, I think you'll find George Orwell despised the semicolon"s.
Yes. And "Albanese" has a final syllable that rhymes with "hazy"....
I came to the comments for such a comment. What the jackal missed was they the final “e” in provolone rhymes with day, bey, hey, okay. Unless you’re saying Tony provolone 😎

Welcome. Old jackal here, correcting Seth's claim: only chase up past episodes if you have time or hate missing the odd reference - it really isn't that hard to get in the swing of things.
The security guys bit was GOLDEN🎉🎉🎉. I reluctantly confess to have watched them all from the beginning at least twice . Sad, isn't it.
Such a great show. I hope I don't age out any time soon! Also thanks for not being greedy and keeping these Ad Free. You are a national treasure.
I like your running "miffs', or paybacks to Jackals, ie: two glasses without a coaster underneath, but one has a coaster on top. 😄
I’ve been here since episode 1, and I can honestly say that I come for the A Closer Look, but I stay for the Corrections.
CORRECTION: Seth, you were actually right about "Pegasi"! Well, sort of.
"Pegasus" comes from Greek and the proper pluralization there would be "Pegasides," but the word was also used in Latin, so the nominative plural declension would be "Pegasi." The camp of people who believe "Pegasus" is only a singular proper noun would argue that the common construction "pegasus," which would refer to winged horses in general, is an English construction and should therefore follow English rules of pluralization, which would be "pegasuses."
This is somewhat similar to the plural of "octopus," though that's a common noun. The plural form "octopi" is considered a hypercorrection because "octopus" has Greek roots, not Latin. So, the correct plural would be "octopodes." Though most people would just use "octopuses," which is also an acceptable form.
However, words change over time due to semantic shift - what was once improper becomes proper. People who eschew semantic shift are known as prescriptivists, whereas those who work with language as it actually is are known as descriptivists.
In my opinion, prescriptivists are usually those just starting out in their quest of linguistic pedantry. Even the most ardent prescriptivist won't use "nice" to refer to a foolish person or "awful" to refer to something that inspires awe or "meat" to refer to all solid food or "flirt" to refer to a quick, sharp movement - despite those being the original definitions of those words.
I vote you Jackal of the Week! This was a great comment! ❤
Everything here is cool and correct except the core correction at the start! My Greek is not great, but I think I'm right in saying that the Greek name is "Pegasos," a second-declension noun that would become "pegasoi" if you made a nominative plural out of it, not "pegasides."
The mistake comes from using "octopus/octopodes" as your reference. Unfortunately, "octopus" is doubly unhelpful as the Greek root "pod-" (meaning "foot") follows the third-declension and is irregular. "Pod-" becomes "pou-" when it takes the nominative singular "-s" ending (Latinized to "pus" in "octopu-s"), but returns to "pod-" when it takes the nominative plural "-es" ending (hence "octopod-es").
When he’s imitating the security guards you can hear the writers’ genuine laughter that his impersonation is spot on. I friggin love these people 😆
Will his drink glasses now ever increase and become a "Thorn Birds" homage? 😂
As a Canadian, I must say that's the best Australian accent I've ever heard. Keep doing it often.
He learned it at impression camp
It needs a more nasal quality…
Holy hell that Ploddy joke was actually amazing. How did it not get a standing applause??
CORRECTIONS has become an essential part of my work week decompression process. I actually did rewatch from Ep.1 during the strike. Everyone should go back and watch from the beginning. There are some seriously ridiculous golden bits in the archives.😅😂❤😊
i do feel like 82 was insanely good. i had literal tears coming down my face and felt like a kid giggling into the middle of the night
I've been watching since the beginning, and I often wake up at 3 in the morning on a Friday, see the new episode in my feed, and watch it right away. I often don't catch any of the rest of the shows at times, but I believe I have watched every episode of Corrections, and even re-watched many of them.
I hope you Keep having fun with it. As long as you are having fun producing it, you should keep producing it.
The bay gull/bagel one was actually quite emusing, even if it wasn't a swooping success

The bagel joke was my favorite 😆 my go-to silly pun is "Why do seagulls fly over the sea? 'Cause if they flew over the bay, they'd be baygulls!" 😁
For as long as I live and for as long as correction’s continue I’m going to watch them. This is my ride or die

Happily hooked up on Corrections since day 1. Not only is super fun to watch, there is also a emotional conection after the pandemic. Thank you Seth and Late Night staff for hanging on to this segment.
Just started watching Corrections two weeks ago. This is only the third Corrections I've ever seen, and it's one of my favourite bits already. I'm more of a hyena than a jackal, though, because every damn thing that comes out of your mouth makes me laugh.
I can't wait for some jackal to add up how long it would take to watch every Corrections episode and tell you that it's more than or less than than 24 hours.
You don't have to do any addition. Simple estimation. Let's take 80 episodes times 15 minutes per episode. 1200 minutes. There are 1440 minutes in a day. So, even if several episodes are 20 minutes long like this one, a day is probably close to being right. You might even get a couple of hours of sleep.
Well, there is maths involved and since most are of us are either watching this on their first cup of coffee in the morning or last smoke/drink/gummy of the night…. Thanks for doing it for us.
"I don't think we're picking up new people" is my mantra. Instant video 👍
I love end of the week corrections cause it’s more of Seth’s real personality 😊
Boo real feelings are for the batman
Listen to Strike Force Five and his podcast with his brother, Family Trips
As a bilingual Italian-American I can tell you that provolone is pronounced provoloné but provolonee is a good-enough substitute for me. Also Corrections this week was great. I get more belly laughs from Corrections than anything else on youtube.
anch’io 💙🐾
Thank you for continuing the Stevie Nicks joke at the end. It leaves a smile…just a thought could be really cool to have a live episode or something only for your loyal jackles…please include a zoom link for those of us far away! So much love.
I didn’t get this joke. Could you explain?
I honestly can't believe you're starting the show on that point. Last week I tried to convince my cousin to watch Corrections. I started to explain the show and it wasn't easy and in the end I just said duck it, I give up just watch it. My error was trying to explain the animal song with the Koala as my first example.
In all seriousness, I hope they start doing a ‘Previously on Corrections’ intro to each episode - just 30 seconds of irrelevant ‘context’ that would only make a new viewer even more confused - and I hope it is narrated by the Koala.
Ahem, “Animal Flubs”©️
@@nicholasleemarks jimmy kimmel has been doing a previously on bit at the start of his show for about 2 months now [not including the strike]
it's very funny.
I’m crying in jackalish solidarity 😂
@@vforwombat9915 Correction: it would be funny if it were on some other, much funnier show.
All joks aside, I love this weekly web special. It has been my favorite since Corrections ep. 1.
Love that he corrects his corrections. I just starting watching this segment and its amazing!
it's nice to not have a large audience or rapid-fire time constraints
Welcome! The first 50 were great, but usually shorter, and instead of Episode 51 following 50, there was a "Jacktacular." I will give no help in catching up.
Welcome to the jackals, and for proving Seth's theory that we aren't a growing audience wrong.
He doesn’t correct his corrections, the Jackals correct his corrections. Can’t have one without the other.
Love that the drink coaster bit evolved, and i hope it continues to do so into something completely absurd.
Like the water bottle! Too funny.
The Jackal-lantern got a huge laugh out of me 😂
I knew that Seth saying we won't do more cheese puns was a set-up for another and was not disappointed.
Corrections should be watched in reverse to get the full effect. Like the movie "Memento"...
But with corrections.
I’m never letting go of Corrections! Still morning the loss of Tiny Secret Whispers.
I guess I'm an outlier as someone who came late to the party. This is the hidden comedy gem I didn't know I needed.
You're not alone!
Just start from episode 82, you'll be fine. To get the jokes for episode 82, though, you might need to check out episode 81. But go from there, and you won't be an outlier. I mean, you won't understand it all unless you watch episode 80 first. Ok, just start from the beginning. It'll take a day. A full human day.
my friend and i recently rewatched all of corrections from episode 1 and it took us over the course of a full weekend
correction: you and your *bestie* rewatched corrections from the beginning. it did actually take us all weekend, though 🫠
Every week with animal flubs is the best Corrections ever
🎶Animal Flubs -- Animal Flubs
It's always a good week when there are Animal Flubs🎶
That Medusa joke 😘 👌. I was just about to say they were called Gorgons when you let that pun slip.
Pure gold. Honestly the best content. Never missed an episode, never plan on missing one either. P.s. Your Australian accent sounds like Mitch McConnell
Yes!
15:45 - The "Security Guards John & Jim" moment... Couldn't stop laughing... So damn good, Seth. Thanks & Love to You and the Late Night Crew!
“I don’t mind when animals talk in movies, I just don’t like when they can talk to people” - exactly right. From your lips to Dog’s ears.
With all the trauma in this world and the stress of work and everything, your comedy is so therapeutic. You make me laugh in the morning. When my dad was alive he would sit on the toilet and read the newspaper that was his generation. My generation has an iPad in his hand while watching your show laughing my ass off As I clean myself
Gorgonzola may be the funniest joke that's ever been on this show
As an Aussie, good or bad its always nice to see somone try the accent.
Strewth!
Another Aussie, hard disagree 😂
Hmm - yeah it’s pretty funny when they fail as spectacularly as Seth did last week 😂😂
I feel like this comment is peak Aussie vibe 😂
Too roight mate
Please never cancel corrections. It’s my favourite part of the week
I love Corrections and I’m grateful for you and your staff taking the time and effort to make a unique segment.
Thank you Late Night Team! You’ve made my Fridays a better day.
