You can buy a shorter belt that fits without running around the bad AC pulley and use it if you do not intend to fix your A/C or use it until you fix the AC. Auto part store can look up the shorter belt you need. As you say never drive your vehicle without a belt as the water pump will not work and severely overheat the engine.
Not always true. I had an 89 f150 belt came off and drove it about 30 minutes in the summer to get it to my shop and never over heated. Same with an 03 Saturn ion. Didn't know the belt came off till I got home

4" 3 prong puller and a lot of patience. Make sure you put the bolt back in after you get the front plate off so you don't mess up the threads
no belt = no water pump = warped head
If you run it without the belt the battery running low shouldn't be a problem, the engine should blow up long before that happens.
If a belt breaks 9 times out of 10 it broke because a pulley failed.
