  • In this video I take you step by step through my diagnostic and troubleshooting procedure for repairing non working air conditioning on a 2006 Ford F150 King Ranch with a 5.4l V8. I also, added a little incident that happened with one of my helpers, when he stabbed himself up his nose with a screwdriver. With his permission I've included the audio of the incident in order to remind others of safety in the repair shop.
    Thank you for watching!

    The biggest problem with replacing just the clutch can be finding the right parts, those pulleys come is multiple flavors, ha ha. It took me about ten hours of searching the last time I did one. I can see why professionals choose to replace the whole compressor, which comes with a warranty and new parts that are likely to last longer. From a DIY perspective, there are extra expenses for the whole compressor, including seals, receiver dryer, flushing the system, vacuum refrigerant recovery and recharging costs.

    Fixed this issue all the time. As Shops send then to me. After they toss parts at it. So the first thing to look at is the temp Gauge. Does it work. As the Engine Head Temp sensor fails. It will not come on. So you have to remove the intake on most to reach it. Plus they get the benefit of new intake gaskets...And replace the pig tail while in there. It breaks. And it will look good. So ohm it out....

    Hello Eric,
    Good work, appreciate and good to know your colleague is okay.
    I had a question, don't know if I could get any supporting response from you and the experts out there.
    Understanding that I know very little of this Auto World and that I do not have special tools, I am unable to figure out-
    Why does my car AC stops cooling (AC does remain ON) after driving the car for a while. Like at start of the day you start the car, turning ON the AC and drive, post driving a smooth run for say 20-30 mins cruising at about 50-60 KMPH, suddenly the cooling is lost and AC won't provide any cooling unless you switch off the car for an hour or so.
    Next you park the car aside highway, turn it off for say a good 45-50 minutes break, then start the car and the AC when switched ON starts cooling (No it doesn't cool if you simply turn Off and On the car without taking that large break)
    But does same thing again.. After a smooth cruising for another 30-45 mins AC will stop cooling, though blower is blowing. I have noticed that the AC clutch does not engage. (But it does engage when car is started for the first time or from long break, but cooling works only for a while.)
    Can't understand what's going on, as when the car mechanic looked at, he stays AC remains ON and cooling too when he tests it at a garage.
    Any ideas or suggestions where to look for will help.
    I don't think my car is known to the US world :) as I am in India and it's made by TATA (now owns Jaguar and Land Rover). It's a pretty old 2006 but my first car so great if Eric can help with his inputs.
    It's a TATA Indica Xeta car with petrol 1.4 litre engine.

    What scan tool was that that you used in this video? I'm having the same issue with my 05 f150 lariat. No A.C..all the fuses are good, A.C pressure switches are good and pressure in the system. I can bypass the ac clutch relay with a wire and the compressor turns on. I checked the ac compressor relay and that is good. So it appears that the pcm is not sending the ground signal to the relay in order to energize it. While I had the compressor relay bypassed I got 32psi on the low side and 175psi on the high side. With the engine off both pressures were equal almost instantly so I can assume I dont have a plugged orifice tube. Any suggestions?

    • @Joe_1971
      @Joe_1971 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DavidPerez-tk5cp I found a couple issues. First I removed the front seat to check the wiring to the body control module. That was fine. I checked the wiring running along the drivers side sill plate and found one that was chaffed. Taped it up and it seemed to be fine. But what I noticed was occasionally the lights on the gauge cluster would all come on, speed and tack stop working and a hit to the top of the dash with my fist would get it to start working fine again. Turns out the wiring harness going to the gauge cluster must have a bad/loose intermittent connection. What I did was just give the whole harmess a few spins/turns to put some tension on the plug and I haven't had an issue since.

    • @DavidPerez-tk5cp
      @DavidPerez-tk5cp 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Joe_1971 that’s rare, I have been locking for this issue for long time now, I don’t have any problems related to the cluster, they’ve changed the engine on January so maybe they cut some wiring or so.

      ADVANCED LEVEL AUTO side note, I found the relay under dash and it felt hot but it’s working as I hear/feel it click when I plug it in.

      Charles Wolford Mine is doing the same exact thing it kicks on for a few seconds then kicks off. Gauge cycling from green to red or yellow. Blowing hot air. I took the clutch plate off cleaned it w/ brake clean, no change. No shins inside clutch assembly. Maybe clearance is to wide? Hmm 🤔 Considering throwing in an entire new compressor.

      Randubles P hey I let some pressure out and now it’s not even attempting to engage so I filled it up again after disconnecting the battery for half hour and it’s still not doing anything at all. Sucks lol

    Stabbing your self must be a Houston phenomenon. I was changing a wiper refill on my big truck (semi) in Houston. Held it with my teeth so I could climb up the steps and on to the tire, raised my leg, knee smacked bottom of blade, refill into the roof of my mouth. Still have the scar. I won’t buy refills anymore or climb with my hands full.

      ADVANCED LEVEL AUTO - made my eyes water for sure, tasted blood for a couple of days. At the time I was more worried that someone saw me pull that bone head maneuver. I was really mad at myself for being so stupid.
