    The entirety of Westeros hates Wildings. Randyl Tarly (Samwells father) having a negative opinion on wildlings isn’t something odd. The only news they hear of Wildlings is when they come south to raid, rape and plunder. Westerosi people have a good reason to dislike the free folk but of course xenophobia plays a role too.

    The children weren’t really an “enemy”. Just defending their land, Gods, and Weirwoods. The children of the forest made the white walkers to battle the first men incursion in Westeros. They simply bit off more than they can chew and they got out of control. So the children and the first men (of the north) put down their beef and banded together to battle the white walkers in the battle for the dawn.

    Margaery is only trying to save herself and her brother. She and Tommen were unaware the Tyrells and Lannisters were planning to come help, so they made an alliance with the High Sparrow.... guess that's what happens when you leave the King out of the loop on major decisions.

    • @Mrryn
      @Mrryn ปีที่แล้ว +10

      It's also a pretty easy loyalty slide for her. She even mentions the part about how she made herself visible when attending to the poor in King's Landing...and what did we see the High Sparrow doing when he was introduced? Feeding the poor and having given away his shoes.
      The Sparrows have good clout with the commonfolk, especially compared to the Lannister regime with Joffrey and Cersei (and Tyrion, mostly due to reputation and bad press pinned on him and his outburst at his trial). Margaery knows this, knows the power of the support and love from the masses...and she knows Tommen and his good nature and naivete.
      So she gets to go free in a way that spares her from Cersei's punishment, has her come out looking the better for it (and affirming her already popular persona as a queen of the people), and she sways Tommen firmly to her side both against her mother and as extra sway to help absolve Loras with his status as king? It's simply the winning play, and her family can just chill, let the Lannister half of any aggression take the blame, and if need be, bide their time for any countermeasure against the Faith. And until then, consolidate positive presence at court for the Tyrells and while having the Faith's new presence push out the Lannister's while still keeping them in check with Tommen as a pseudo-puppet regent.

    • @johnalden5821
      @johnalden5821 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I agree. Margaery is doing what she has learned to do all her life: maneuver to save or promote herself and her family. In Westeros, that's what noblewomen have to do, and she has been effective at it. But yes, she was busy zigging, when Jaime and Olenna were zagging. As a result, it's the High Sparrow who came out with the political win. Tommen, however, is something more like a true believer. And who can blame him? He's young, his parents have largely abandoned him, and he needs a way to establish his own authority. The High Sparrow offered an alliance, and he took it wholeheartedly.

      This is basically what is known as a "Bootstrap Paradox":
      Information from an event that takes place in the future was sent back to the past; that information allowed knowledge of the future event, which was then acted upon in ways that would help to eventually bring about that same future event.
      In short, the future event (which is an EFFECT) became its own CAUSE.

    I have always been amazed with actors that can give a whole speech, with passion, in a completely made up language and nail it. How do you remember all that?!? Danys done it a few times. Top tier was definately Drogo, when he found out abt the poisoner and promised danys son would sit on the iron throne. Its a scene worth rewatching. Momoa absolutely killed it. Probably the best acting scene of his career.

    • @krayzy932
      @krayzy932 ปีที่แล้ว

      Reciting a speech in a foreign language is easier than learning the language. You just need to remember how to pronounce those words. I can sing some Kpop and Spanish songs. I don't know any Korean and my Spanish is mostly limited to conversational. This is something you'll see often in non-English speaking countries. Singers that don't speak English can sing tons of English songs since they are so popular.

    • @natb9919
      @natb9919 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@krayzy932 Singing songs in a language you don't know is impressive and props to you because that's no small achievement but songs are easier to remember because of the rhythm and repetition. That's the reason almost every human alive still remembers the words to nursery rhymes we learned or songs that were sung to us as small children or why a small child can remember words to nursery rhymes but wouldn't be able to remember anything from a script. Our brains remember the rhythm and repetition and the words become sounds that fit into that rhythm and repetition, whether it's in English or anything else. This is why singing songs is such a fundamental part of teaching young children.
      Learning lines for a script that you will have to forget in a few days so you can learn lines for your next script isn't the same because there no distinct rhythm or repetition and there's no consistency of hearing the song over and over for as long as you want. Plus she does speeches in Dothraki, High Valyrian, Astapori Valyrian and has to remember all her English lines too so it's a pretty big deal how she's able to do each one and deliver it so well every time. It is truly amazing that people sing songs in English (or any language) without actually knowing how to speak it, but that's the point...They might be able to sing it but they can't *speak* the language. But if you can speak a language you can definitely sing a song in it. If speaking a language was as easy as singing it, people would be able to speak all the words to the foreign songs they know in conversation.

    I know several people have already basically said it, but to maybe say it even a tiny bit more to the point: The really disturbing implication of the whole Hodor thing is that we have to assume that he's either been carrying the knowledge of where, when and how exactly he was gonna die with him whole life or, if he's repressed that memory, it's still bad enough that not only that's what caused him to loose his ability to speak and overall turn "simple-minded", but the thing he kept saying which on top of that became his name, basically was a constant dark prophecy foretelling his death and its circumstances; That's GRRM for you, turning what seemed a harmless "running gag" about that one character just saying his gibberish word of a name into THAT...

    Cersai made 2 big mistakes, one was bringing the Sparrows into power to begin with and the other was not informing Tommen of the plan to stop the Walk of Atonement. Margery converted Tommen because she knew it was the only way to stop her own walk of atonement and hopefully free Loris. Had she known that Olenna was going to destroy the faith militant she would've waited. You can actually see it on her face when Olenna steps out of the carriage. She realizes she messed up, but she didn't know.

    About Meera's killing of one of the White Walker lieutenants: when Bran, Meera, Jojen and Hodor meet with Sam, Gilly and Little Sam at the NightFort, they talk about how Sam managed to kill a White Walker using dragonglass.
    "But nobody's killed a White Walker in a thousand years" says Meera.
    "I suppose somebody had to be the first" answers Sam.
    When they depart, Sam gives them the remaining stash of dragonglass weapons that he had found at the Fist of the First Men, saying "I hope you don't need them."
    After they reach the Three Eyed Raven, there's just a lot of waiting around for Meera, who spends a lot of her time making spear points out of the dragonglass tips. It is one of these spears that she uses to kill the White Walker when they attack them.
    It is understandable that you missed it since these scenes are just little nuggets of information spread over many episodes.

Just because she can kill doesn’t mean that she is a psycho like Cersei. About Hodor. A couple Episodes back they gave us the very 1st flashback where we learned that hodor's name is Willis and that he could talk.
    When bran woke up from that vision. He was excited because he heard hodor talk and he asks hodor right then what happened to him.
    I didn't think anything of it at the time, but upon the revelation of what happened to hodor My mind instantly snapped back to that scene.
    Because if you listen to it I swear to God you can clearly hear in the tone of hodor's voice when he answers brans question....
    Bran: "You could talk! What happened to you?"
    Hodor:"............You did."

    According to the lore there are 227 Valerian steel swords in Westeros. Many of the major and minor houses have a family sword. The Lannisters used to have a Valerian sword but it was lost on an expedition to old Valeria several generations before. The Lannisters sent people to try and recover it but if I remember right no one returned. Tywin tried to use his families immense wealth to buy a sword but of course each family considered their Valerian swords precious and priceless and no one would sell him one. That’s why him melting down Ice into two swords was so important, they finally had a Valerian sword in the family again.

    Remember when Ned asked Varys “Who do you serve?” And he answered “The realm my lord, someone has to”. I think he’s helping the one who he thinks is the best choice to sit on the throne. By the time he was against Daeny, he knew that there are better choices than a her like: Ned, Renly, Stannis… etc so that’s why he tried to somehow poison her. After king Robert died and all the drama that happened between the lannisters and the starks and Joffrey suck at being king, he changed his mind cuz he knew he’s not the leader the people want. Then the idea of “maybe daeny is a good leader since she got power, army and all that in a short amount of time, why not meeting her and see who she’s?”

    I agree, the White Walker threat makes all the politics seem so petty.
    When I watched The Door, I never thought Hodor chose to hold the door. My read was that Bran warged into him and made him prop up the door, and then when he stop warging, Hodor came back to himself into a terrifying situation where if he moved away, he'd be swarmed. I remember being livid at Bran and Meera for abandoning him. I wish I could see it differently but that was my experience.
    Comparing the Children of the Forest to Cersei is pretty harsh; she was protecting herself where as the Children were literally facing extinction. Plus, there's no way they could've predicted the future of the White Walkers. Way more understandable and sympathetic.
