    Lyanna Mormont had one of the best foreshadow introductions in the whole show., way back in season 5 episode 2, from Stannis the mannis himself while he was talking to Jon:
    "Do you know this wretched girl, Lyanna Mormont?"
    "The lord commander's niece."
    "Lady of Bear Island, and a child of 10. I asked her to commit her house to my cause. That's her response."
    "Bear Island knows no king but the king in the north, whose name is Stark."
    The smile on Jon's face when he read her message was everything.

    I forgot how good this episode is! Unfortunately, Robb left a bad taste in a lot of northerners mouths. He forgot that the men fighting for him were not only sacrificing their lives, but they had families as well. He only thought about himself when he married Talisa and not the 1000’s of men & families depending on him. Loved Lady O telling Cersei like it is & Lyanna Mormont is a badass.

      In the books, Robb marries the daughter of low level vassal of Tywin. He does it to uphold his honor because he had sex with her. Both in the show and in the book, Robb's honor would have been better served holding his nose and marrying into the Freys. Walder Frey made the deal with Tywin because as shifty as Tywin was ; he was family to the Freys. Tywin's memory for an insult was as long as Walders. Jon and Sansa are trying to raise an army from exhausted people and facing backlash due to things neither of them really had control over.

    19:08 I'm shocked that no one has picked up on the stupidity of this exchange. Jon, Sansa, & Davos were trying to convince Lady Mormont to help save Rickon, yet none of them fucking mentioned Rickon. Lady Mormont famously sent a raven in S05 and reiterated in this meeting that: *_"Bear Island knows no king but the king in the north, whose name is Stark."_*
    She won't trust Jon because he's a bastard, and she won't trust Sansa because she was married to 2 different enemies of House Stark. That's fine. But Rickon Stark is a Stark. He is the heir to Winterfell, he is alive, and he's a prisoner. Yet he is not mentioned to Lady Mormont who is reluctant to help because her motto is "we serve the Starks". The answer is right there, but no one gives it.
    For Jon & Sansa, Rickon is the primary motivator to go to war with the Boltons, yet he is not mentioned once to convince Lyanna Mormont, when she made it crystal clear that it's the only argument that would sway her. But what sways her instead? The threat, of the White Walkers. Magical creatures she has never seen or believed in.

      @Mic-Mak ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@JacobMoitt Indeed. It's also extremely baffling that none of the Northern Lord have any question for Jon in regard to why he is able to leave the NW. Hell, Sansa never even asked him about how he came back from the dead. We never have that conversation. I also am not convince that anyone would believe Jon if he told them the truth.

    • @johnnymittle
      @johnnymittle ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rickon could have been mentioned in the raven's letter that set up this meeting.
      Rickon is not enough of a character to use in this scene. The audience also has to be moved by the plea. Imagining Rickon as King , is not it.

    • @gunkulator1
      @gunkulator1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, no. Rickon is a truly bad reason to rally a fight around for because he is a hostage and in order to legitimize his claim, Ramsey will sooner or later be forced to kill him. Had the fight been for Rickon, his death at the beginning of the Battle of the Bastards ends the whole alliance right there as he was the last Stark. That would have been a far worse plan.
      Instead, Jon, Sansa and Davos are trying to convince Lady Mormont that the battle is between the living and the dead and as such, individual house squabbles must be put on the back burner. Davos states this directly and clearly.

      In the books, when the Lannisters assume power and the War of the Five Kings begins it is the Iron Bank that loans the money for the Lannisters to wage war. When Tywin and Joff kick the bucket, Cersei declared the Lannister’s debt null and void which pisses off the Bank to no avail (it turns out that while the Lannister’s unofficial motto is “a Lannister always pays his debts” the Bank’s motto is “The Iron Bank always gets its due”). In response the Bank agrees to back the claim of Stannis Baratheon to the Iron Throne and grant him a considerable loan.

      Correct. My question then and now is who survives being repeatedly stabbed in the stomach? To be sure, Maisie Williams did a phenomenal job of selling that, but in reality, she would not have gotten far, even if she had managed to get out of the water. The shock alone would have prevented her from walking around with injuries like that, not to mention the blood loss.

They became so powerful because they gained the support of the common people and represented their grievances against the noble houses whose petty wars and squabbling had killed thousands of innocent people and generally made their lives miserable.

The big houses with more than thousand men are: house stark, house bolton, house umber, house glover, house karstark and the house with the merman (i forgot the name, I think house manderly?). House bolton is the strongest after house stark and ramsay is allied with house umber and house karstark.

      ⚠️⚠️SPOILER WARNING⚠️⚠️
      @@ianvera4299 I understand that but she does become a coldblooded assassin anyway, like when she killed Walder Fray or Littlefinger. And it was messy. First, all of her scenes from the 5th season were kinda boring. All she did was walk around cleaning bodies and not doing much. Things get a little more interesting when Jaqen assigned her to become a girl who sells sea food to spy on an old man to then kill Meryn Trant. That was fun, then she becomes blind for some strange reason, no explanation AT ALL. Then in season 6, they spent a LOT OF screen time on the comedy show, once was ok but there were like 3 whole pointless scenes of cringy comedy. And finally, all of that so the payoff was a classic chase through the street and to then Arya killing the Waif off-screen and Jaqen just letting her go even though she killed his assistant, literally disobeyed all of their orders and stole a few faces is so anticlimactic. (Not to mention the dumbest plot armour in the whole series 🙄 Arya getting stabbed and surviving).
      They made a cool concept boring. Arya's interaction with the Waif and with Jaqen lacked everything from other interactions, like Arya and the Hound or Arya and Tywin. The only satisfying payoff from all of her faceless training was her killing Walder Fray, after that she never uses the faces ever again. FeelsBadMan, I loved Arya before season 5.

    • @ianvera4299
      @ianvera4299 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@xaviermm5506 No she does not. Arya is not getting paid to kill people on her list, and that's the point. Assassins are hired killers, Arya is just obsessed with revenge that it blinds her judgment and is a cautionary tale. Walder Frey and LF both were responsible for her family members dying. And it was not messy at all. Season 5 was not boring imo, Arya learned the difference between killing people who deserve it rather than serving the many faced gods, she learned the game of faces, and she learned the consequences of using the faces of others. She literally kills MerynTrant in season 5 , which already contradicts your whole argument since that was a greatly written scene. What comedy show? You mean the play that reminded Arya of her life back in Westeros, of the many people that wronged her, and that she doesn't want to be a faceless man? That is not pointless, it's called character development. You wanna talk about dumbest plot armor, how about Tyrion surviving the battle of blackwater without any combat training being saved by an inexperienced squire or that Sam killed a WW by accident? They made a cool concept amazing. Maybe because Arya doesn't need in-depth interactions with the Waif( and Twyin and Arya is a show with only detail that was better than the books). First you say there's any payoff then you say there is payoff with Arya killing Walder, stop changing the golf post to fit your weak narrative. Changing one's face is not the only skill Arya learned, she also relied on her other senses while being blind to navigate in darkness which helped her in the battle of WF where she killed the NK. I loved Arya in all 8 seasons.

    Even if Gendry were not still rowing, he would not be considered a potential heir because he is not "legitimate" (as the term was used). His last name, I think, would be "Stone" or something like that. In the rules of this world (and pretty much all monarchies historically), children born out of wedlock were not considered heirs to their fathers' thrones or titles. Now, the fathers could legitimate them (as Roose did to Ramsey) or could otherwise create a new title for them (this was common in Britain throughout history). But no royal son or daughter born outside the marriage would inherit the throne.

    I was very annoyed with how the scene with Arya played out. I agree- it wasn't executed so well. In any case her character has been THROUGH it - psychologically and physically. This is definitely deeply imprinting in her and will make her a formidable foe - if she makes it out of Bravos.
    Danny is fully set now with all of the people she's got on her side. She will be strong on sea and land- it seems.

    The hound was one of my fav characters with Tyrion and Varys.. he is not really evil, just had a horrible childhood and life and indifferent because he doesn't feel like he has anything to live for, and when he left kings landing he started to care for Arya, and in this episode he for the first time he felt like might belong anywhere and then this happened, his life is so tragic 😥
    Arya was being a bit cocky, she should have been expecting the faceless to be after her and should have been more stealthy about her doings, but she is still young even though she went through so much more than anyone else at her age

    Many fans had theorized about this for a long time, such that the theory was called "CleganeBowl." CleganeBowl was coming, that was the hope! Those hopes faded a little when Arya left him for dead (though there were some hints in the book that he might be alive), but his reappearance with this episode re-ignited hopes in CleganeBowl once more!
