The thing with the Night’s Watch and Ser Aliser thing is that it’s easier for us, the audience with the wider perspective and omnipresent knowledge and no real skin in the game to look at the Wildlings differently. But for someone like Ser Aliser, he’s been fighting them basically for as long as Jon has been alive, it is very difficult to get someone to change their view and turn off their hatred. He would have seen what Jon was doing as a betrayal and saw it as his duty to stop Jon. And we’ve seen with Stannis what happens when someone takes duty to the extreme. We look at the Wildlings and see people because we got to see their culture, like Jon got to, but people like Ser Aliser and Olly have only seen the savagery and the violence, have only fought against the Wildlings for survival. It’s hard to see the other side as people if all you’ve seen is them trying to hurt or kill you.
To add to this, Ser Alliser has been committing war crimes against wildlings his whole life, killing women and children in their villages etc etc. It is impossible to do that psychologically if you see them as the same as you, you have to dehumanise them and make them out to be savages, tell yourself its ok to do it because they are not real humans. The ending of this episode with Melisandre is by far one of the most underrated scenes in this show. For the first time ever, we see her completely defeated and (quite literally) bare with no facade whatsoever. She gave up...
The Theon-Brienne-Sansa scene is the most emotional in the whole series. It is known. People have always said, at the end of Season 5, 'how did the Dothraki find Dany?', and I've been like, 'It's obvious, they saw the dragon and followed it, where's the mystery?' But I'd forgotten that as we see, these Dothraki don't know who she is. So how did they find her, and why? And how did they miss the dragon? So glad you've started the season so quickly!
The ending scene: Melisandre's whole purpose in life is to help the prophecy of her faith come true, to guide whoever is the promised king. The reveal means that she feels she will die soon without achieving her purpose. It's a big character moment that creates gravitas for what comes next for her, but also gives us a whole other view of everything she's done up until this point and her motivations for all of it.

Season 6 here we go!! Objectively, I understand why people don't like this as much as the first four. But this has to be my personal favourite season. Been really looking forward to these reactions.
I don't hate S6, there are some meaningful, relevant elements. My beef is silly plot armour. And even in this 1st episode Bran has still not appeared having been gone for the entire S5. The show pretty much started with Bran, the magic starting to come back into the world which is the whole point of fantasy. Fantasy has left the room and the spectacular CGI has entered instead. Character developments no longer matter. ONLY DEATH CAN PAY FOR LIFE!
For context, Melisandre looks really old when she takes the necklace off because she is in fact around 400 years old. She mentioned to Stannis in Season 2 that she's been fighting far longer than him, and that's what she meant. She dropped her youthful appearance there because she's deeply depressed. She's not really sure what she's been living for all this time. Her being wrong about Stannis, and now Jon, has her doubting everything she thought she knew, and the rightness of everything she's done. She's a broken woman having a crisis of faith and self. After centuries of service, this is where it all led... ouch
19:12 🤣🤣🤣 the speed at which you both reversed your shock and awe 🤣🤣🤣 20:30 this is the first time anyone has hugged that child since she left Winterfell 49 episodes ago.❤ This is part of why season 6 is a good one IMO. 27:00 these tiny character differentiations are where the writing begins to change as they ran out of GRRMs written material🤷🏽♀️
Melosandres amulet is not her source of power. The power from the lord of light is given by him. However she has more than just power from the lord of light. She practices shadow magic and glamour magic, both of which are fairly self explanatory
Isn't it weird that it is so easy to like Jaqen H'gar even though he is a nobody? 😂 But even if one was expecting Arya to just to learn to fight and have an easy go, it is GoT.. It is pretty kewl to see the faceless become even more mysterious Poor Arya, she is in a weird place, but there is a saying in latin: ad astra per aspera

@@uinen9029 Sad reality. But a lot of people are disgusted by elderly people and don't want to view them as human. That were once young with a lot of vitality
The implication is that Melisandre is centuries old and that the necklace is indeed magical/has a divine favor from the Lord of Light. As long as she has it on, she lives on in the same physical age. Removing it brings her back to normalcy and shows her how far her age has progressed, so maybe all that happened made her curious in a depressed way to see.
Also worth noting re Melisandra's age, I remember an interaction with Stanis when she said she had been at this ~war far longer than he. So I'm thinking she's been around for ages looking and sometimes believing she's found the "Prince/Princess who was promised".
My love list always consistently had Jon, Arya and Brienne from season 2 onward. My babies. But this show is awesome in having such a complex and interesting collection of characters you enjoy watching most of them.
@@beccab636 Yeah, me too. He's not alone in reacting to this scene that way. It's like women who don't fit the young and beautiful mould become less than human if they dare shed their clothes. Well, older women are people too, and some of them still enthusiastically enjoy sex! And good for them! 🙂🙂
I had to watch again the "devotee" part. Pudgey thinking it was a weird spelling (D-VO-T 🤣 ) and starting the giggles was hilarious to me. Spartan giving her the "get a grip of yourself" look also funny.
The end scene with Melisandre, as well as the character herself, stolen from the 70's movie, Excalibur, the greatest King Arthur movie ever made. In the movie, a beautiful red headed sorceress, played by a very young Helen Mirren, uses her looks to entice important people, then uses her sorcery for magnificent things. Like here, she's nothing more then a shriveled old lady without her powers. The movie a must watch, it includes some very famous actors, who were really nobody, who made it huge later on in their career.
This is not the first time Melisandre has removed her necklace. If you recall, the scene where she was in the bathtub and Stannis's wife comes in, she's not wearing the necklace.
37:40 Yes. Melisandre is around 300 years old. She uses her magics, glamours, and the power of the Lord of Light to stay alive and appear youthful. It's entirely possible we may see a version of her in House of the Dragon.
Yes, Melisandre's over 400 years old probably by some estimates...you know what it means? She's most likely alive and active during the events of Dance of the Dragon/House of the Dragon as well.
Think of Melisandre as like Yennefer from The Witcher. She is very very old, like 400 years old and that amulet is enchanted and keeps her young and her actual appearance hidden. The show runner did mess up though early in season 4 when Melisandre was bathing without the necklace and she was still shown young. Show runner did admit that they messed up during that scene and didn't realize it until after the episode aired lol
A little extra detail on the boys Theon had killed and burned to pose as Rickon and Bran. Theon was sexually active with the mother at around the same time the younger one was conceived. It’s alluded that child could be Theon’s, and if so, that would make Theon a kin-slayer, cursed by gods and men.
Just noting, the waif and Jaquen are separate characters. It’s a tad confusing because of the scene where Arya loses her eyesight where some weird magic was used, but they aren’t the same person or entity or anything. The waif is an apprentice like Arya, though has been there longer and is farther along in her training.

PS 'Devotee' was perfect, imho. "I will devote my life to the Lord of Light. I am a devotee."
Next week on 'New Words With Spartan' . . .
the ending gives more context to red lady. she’s so old and been waiting for the prophesy and her mission to happen. If that makes sense
There's even a theory that Melisandre may appear on HOTD
The ending scene: Melisandre's whole purpose in life is to help the prophecy of her faith come true, to guide whoever is the promised king. The reveal means that she feels she will die soon without achieving her purpose. It's a big character moment that creates gravitas for what comes next for her, but also gives us a whole other view of everything she's done up until this point and her motivations for all of it.
Spartan's "Yuck" gives new meaning to the word yuck lol. Every time he says it lol. Love watching with you guys😊
Pudgey's laughter is addictive 🤣
Australians who never experienced real cold and winter be like : yeah cross the frozen river no biggie lol

Season 6 here we go!! Objectively, I understand why people don't like this as much as the first four. But this has to be my personal favourite season. Been really looking forward to these reactions.
This is my favorite season too!
Never heard anyone hating s6 though.. maybe just me..?
IMO Season 6 is the greatest season of television ever. It's just as good, if not better than the first 4 seasons, just in a different way.
I loved this season also
I don't hate S6, there are some meaningful, relevant elements.
21:50 Love your excitement when Brienne arrives!
38:47 Melisandre being old is definitely hinted at in the books.
37:30 Spartan, that’s how we are all gonna look when we’re old and grey 😂😂😂
Maybe if you get Leprosy like Vizzy T.

After centuries of service, this is where it all led... ouch
Yeah, and She was Alive in the timeline of House of the dragon.. i could only imagine where she would be... Maybe she's alys Rivers.....
19:12 🤣🤣🤣 the speed at which you both reversed your shock and awe 🤣🤣🤣
20:30 this is the first time anyone has hugged that child since she left Winterfell 49 episodes ago.❤
This is part of why season 6 is a good one IMO.
27:00 these tiny character differentiations are where the writing begins to change as they ran out of GRRMs written material🤷🏽♀️
Big up to Pudgey for putting Olenna the OG in her list
Melosandres amulet is not her source of power. The power from the lord of light is given by him. However she has more than just power from the lord of light. She practices shadow magic and glamour magic, both of which are fairly self explanatory
Pudgey should be doing commercials for hair products, her hair looks so good
yes. More raw cuts of Pudgey losing it over nothing while Spartan does the Jim face at the camera. Feed me more!
Isn't it weird that it is so easy to like Jaqen H'gar even though he is a nobody? 😂
But even if one was expecting Arya to just to learn to fight and have an easy go, it is GoT.. It is pretty kewl to see the faceless become even more mysterious
Poor Arya, she is in a weird place, but there is a saying in latin: ad astra per aspera
2:18 Spartan had me in tears🤣 "See what I have to deal with" kinda vibe😅
And the introduction grinds to a halt at 2:00. All giggles aside, the attention to detail that you guys have is amazing. You don't miss much, that's for sure.
Fun fact melisandre is old enough to be alive during house of the dragon
i hope they dont have her appear on that show
Wow, I never thought of that!
@@arobin6695 I kinda want her to but not with the same actress (not that Carice didn’t do fantastic she’s awesome)… I don’t want her to end up being Elizabeth Olsen which there were some rumours of but idk how seriously I’d take it. The ‘Lord of light” has been around for a looong while.
Poor Sparta, still looking for symbolic heroes who pass through trials and are brought low before they finally rise For The Win... but the difference with this series is that *actions have consequences!*
@@AGboiii I would suggest that Cersei and Margery are feeling the consequences of their actions right now, and the consequences of Jon Snow's actions have certainly resulted in the most dire consequence.
@@AGboiii Cut it out and read the posting rules.
Ellaria: I'll get revenge for Oberyn!
Also Ellaria: Murders Oberyn's brother, nephew, and betrays everything he thought was good.
She sucks.
she really does
Tell me you haven’t read the books without telling me. Blame d@d. They are the ones who changed that instead of having dorne try to crown Cersei’s daughter
@Mariah Jo I've read and reread the books. Love them. Obviously, I'm talking about the show, which is what they were reacting to. Why would I be talking about the books on a show reaction with people who haven't read them yet?
They said Oberyn wouldn't have done what Ellaria did but he for sure would have! Ellaria was more in tune with Oberyn than his brother was.
@Lostmonster No, he wouldn't have.
Oberyn: "We don't kill little girls in Dorne"
Ellaria: Murders a girl in Dorne.
Best dialogue ever!
"Stand and fight, blind girl"
"I can't see"
I think she knows that, Arya. She was there when it happened, your eyes are all white, you're staring off into space, and...she just called you BLIND GIRL!
You guys are so lucky that didn’t have to wait so freaking long to watch the episodes and seasons like some of us did …. Keep it up you guys. Love your reactions and theories and how you guys really notice all the small details.
George rr martin did say he loves to make people feel like they are involved with the characters in the books, as it feels like you know them and other stuff.
Then makes it really intense when you think something will happen then it doesn't.
But then he surprise you with killing someone you love basically out of nowhere as a chock but a good one as when you think back it makes sense.
I just love George rr martin the psycho heartbreaker in that aspect XD
I’m so excited to watch you guys watch this season! Definitely my favorite season by far.
I just want to point out that for those of us who watched the show as it was aired had to wait a year after what happened with Jon 😢😢 it was freakin brutal
Spartan: "C'mon GoT! Gimme something! You've taken everything from me!"
GoT: No. Not everything. _Not yet._
You listed all the horrible shit Stannis did in the name of prophecy (and let's be honest personal gain and glory) and wonder what the lesson was from his death?
Not to lose the core of who you are because of Duty & ambition
Oh, i forgot there was one major murder in this episode, victim = dorne
Your reactions are always heartwarming. It is known 😌
This is off topic, but pudgy always has such good hair in every video, am I the only one who wants a tutorial?
A tutorial for what exactly? How to wash and brush hair?
Spartan saying yuck cause shes old was so harsh 😂
I remember some stupid reactors at the time and it was so disrespectful to the actress who agreed to play this.🙄🙄🙄 The actress was about 80 years. So, Melisandre is very old and her beauty is maybe illusion?
@@uinen9029 she's supposed to be shockingly ugly, they reacted normally
@@arobin6695 No, that was not normal. I am not talking about Spartan. I'm talking about at that time. " Oh, now I can't go to bed , now I have nightmares, that was the scariest thing
what I have ever seen... and so on. Really? That was a short shot of an 80 year old woman. The Face/Head was done by makeup artist.
@@uinen9029 Sad reality. But a lot of people are disgusted by elderly people and don't want to view them as human. That were once young with a lot of vitality
Spartan is a privileged white male that hasn't even paid the reparations he owes. It's pretty much expected from these types.
Yup, Melissandre is actually super old but the amulet makes her seem young in the eyes of everyone else.
"Hes really struggling " .....
1 second later...
"Its good meat, feed it to the hounds"...😂
Also worth noting re Melisandra's age, I remember an interaction with Stanis when she said she had been at this ~war far longer than he. So I'm thinking she's been around for ages looking and sometimes believing she's found the "Prince/Princess who was promised".
Haha love how pudgey have become a walking encyclopedia on Game of Thrones
Can you imagine that one lady telling everyone “the queens imp tried to eat my baby” 😂….. that’s probably how most rumors begins in Westeros
It's a little known fact that when Melisandre is off screen she's actually chilling in room 237 of the Overlook Hotel.
It is known.
My love list always consistently had Jon, Arya and Brienne from season 2 onward. My babies. But this show is awesome in having such a complex and interesting collection of characters you enjoy watching most of them.
Oh no, I think Pudgey is gonna get a dictionary for Christmas 23 XD
"What the hell is that" - that's simply a person, played by an older actress. Most of us come to that, if we're lucky to live that long.
Scrolled so far for this comment. I felt bad when he said 'Yuck'.
@@beccab636 Yeah, me too. He's not alone in reacting to this scene that way. It's like women who don't fit the young and beautiful mould become less than human if they dare shed their clothes. Well, older women are people too, and some of them still enthusiastically enjoy sex! And good for them! 🙂🙂
I hope Spartan and Pudgey are their real names... dunno how I'd feel about Greg and Elizabeth or something normal like that.
😂😂
I had to watch again the "devotee" part. Pudgey thinking it was a weird spelling (D-VO-T 🤣 ) and starting the giggles was hilarious to me. Spartan giving her the "get a grip of yourself" look also funny.
Spartan had me dying in the last scene😂
Regardless of whatever I’m watching, when I see you’ve posted a GoT video, I switch over to you. C
Melisandre is a few hundred years old, literally, her magic can extend her life for a very long time.
Spartan speaking properly in the intro getting Pudgey confused is pure gold! "devoteeeeee" :D
37:40
Yes. Melisandre is around 300 years old.
She uses her magics, glamours, and the power of the Lord of Light to stay alive and appear youthful.
It's entirely possible we may see a version of her in House of the Dragon.
28:12 is where the wheels started to fall off.
This season is PEAK Game of Thrones. It is so much my favorite that music from it is my alarm and ringtone. Epic beyond epic
Hehe, been waiting to see your reactions to Melisandre removing the "amulet of catfishing?" lol..... Spartan realizing the witch is an old hag... :D
You have to remember, we all had to wait a year until we saw this. It was so exciting.
Yes, Melisandre's over 400 years old probably by some estimates...you know what it means? She's most likely alive and active during the events of Dance of the Dragon/House of the Dragon as well.
Almost certainly, though she may have still been in Asshai at the time.
lmao Pudgey is adorable . “Oh can you imagine?! Jon rises and Sir Alliser is like…. Spooked” 😂😂😂😂😂😂 she’s so cute
Show runner did admit that they messed up during that scene and didn't realize it until after the episode aired lol
she feld more powerful than and kept up the spell?
The amulet doesn't keep her young. It keeps her glamour up. She is that old because the Lord of Light wishes it.
my favorite season ever
“Game of Thrones give me something, you’ve taken everything from me!” Sums up the entire damn show tbh
The real sorcery in this episode is Ramsey's hounds disappearing into thin air.
22:02 I can see the coordination , lovely reactions guys
4:11 Thank you Pudgey for confirming that Robert & Stannis Baratheon are still alive!
at last... Season 6!... Go Spartan and Pudgey!
Wait, weren't they the two orphans that got sent to live with the farmer and his wife? Or is your comment regarding the books? Sorry, I'm confused
Hey, Spartan and Pudgey. I’ve really enjoyed your reactions to Game of Thrones. All the way from central Canada, lotta love!!
So excited to rewatch this with S&P, season 6 let's go!
Mr. Nohr: “C’mon GoT, give me something! You’ve taken everything from me!” 😂
Theon asked Sansa for one of the horses to go home. Should be interesting when he sees his dad again.
Who else loves the way Pudgey pronounces "Melisandre" - it sounds so melodic and exotic haha 👌
Just noting, the waif and Jaquen are separate characters. It’s a tad confusing because of the scene where Arya loses her eyesight where some weird magic was used, but they aren’t the same person or entity or anything. The waif is an apprentice like Arya, though has been there longer and is farther along in her training.
Spartan is DEFINITELY correct in his pronunciation and use of devotee lol
Devotee usage and pronunciation spot on! You go Spartan
Melisandre is a 400 years old, even way back than HotD era!
"she doesn't even have her makeup on" OH you have NO IDEA 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
