    Took me learning to play the pipes and learning to plat amazing grace and lot of time before I stopped choking up
    Had the priveledge of piping my Dads ashes away
    Still gets me from time to time
    Respect to all veterans
    Also love you and miss you Mom

    For anyone serving in Law Enforcement, Fire Protection, First Response, or Military, this song for some reason hits a soft chord in our spirits. Truly a chilling, peaceful, and solemn melody played by a pipe band.

    such a rousing tune. Amazing Grace. What a tribute. As a professional
    bagpiper, I've played at many memorials and funerals. How incredible it
    would have been to be part of this!

      The hymn “Amazing Grace” was written by John Newton (1725-1807), an English former slave trader who converted to Christianity and became an ordained minister. But while Newton composed the words and set them to music, nobody knows what that music was. Newton published the song in a hymnal, which (as was the practice at the time) contained only the words but not the music.
      Some copies of Newton’s hymnal crossed the Atlantic, where his compositions were popular during the Christian revival known as the Great Awakening. An American Baptist named William Walker (1809-75) set Newton’s words for “Amazing Grace” to a tune that Walker had composed, “New Britain” (which in turn was derived from two folk songs). The hymn became immensely popular among American Christians, then entered the broader popular culture, and later found its way back to Britain.
      In the 1970s, somebody found that “Amazing Grace,” with its haunting tune, worked exceedingly well when played on bagpipes-and thus it came to be associated in many people’s minds with Scotland.
      The tune is normally only played on bagpipes and thus is associated with Scotland.

      not sure if you know but in the years since 9-11 over 25,000 groundzero rescue workers have been diagnosed with various forms of cancer which has been linked to the toxins in the air and pulverized building materials present at ground zero, wich is the greatest tradgedy of all.

      There were 15-ish different bands in this mass.

      Amazing Grace on the bagpipes has become very traditional in many US fire and law enforcement agencies

    • @alwilliam3379
      @alwilliam3379 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Irish! Not British. Bagpipes commonly and been adopted to symbolize Firefighters and Police Departments all throughout the US. Most Fire Depts and Police Depts especially in big cities got their own Pipe and Drum band.
      If you trace back history and up to the present time, most members of the Police and Fire Departments where/are Irish or of Irish ancestry.
