After an intensive training with experts from the BAOR (British Army of the Rhine) the German bagpipe band was founded in 1977. The band's public appearances help to make the scottish bagpipes more popular in Germany.
The song was written by Paul McCartney and bandmate Denny Laine in tribute to the picturesque Kintyre peninsula in Argyll & Bute, Scotland, where McCartney had owned a home and recording studio since the late 1960s.
Lyrics:
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre
Far have I traveled and much have I seen
Dark distant mountains with valleys of green.
Past painted deserts the sunsets on fire
As he carries me home to the mull of kintyre.
Mull of kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre
Sweep through the heather like deer in the glen
Carry me back to the days I knew then.
Nights when we sang like a heavenly choir
Of the life and the time of the mull of kintyre.
Mull of kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre
Smiles in the sunshine
And tears in the rain
Still take me back to where my memories remain
Flickering embers growing higher and higher
As they carry me back to the mull of kintyre
Mull of kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre
Mull of kintyre
Oh mist rolling in from the sea,
My desire is always to be here
Oh mull of kintyre - บันเทิง
Me Great Grandfather and Grandmother migrated from Scotland to Vancouver Island British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦
And that’s were I live his Name was Teddy Robertson he fought in WW1 ended up getting hit with a shrapnel wound in his leg as well as getting hit with chlorine gas. Spent awhile in England at an army hospital I’m 62 he died when I was 10 great memories of both of them. Both of them loved the pipes as do I
One day will cross the pond and see where it all began
I’m from Ballintoy on the North Irish coast which faces the Mull of Kintyre and the scenery is outstanding. Remember this when we were weans great song.
Song was written by Beatle Paul McCartney in 1977
My mum and dad would have loved this. WW2 vet & war bride. Miss you both!!!
Nothing will ever beat the haunting beauty of the sounds of the bagpipes.
Absolutely right I get goosebumps and emotional listening to bagpipes being half Scottish myself. Listening reminds me of my late Grandfather McLean
@@skipfreeman3465 my dads a McLean but i dont think any relation, my moms a McIntosh! both sides from scotland but my dads side we dont know too much about. before McIntosh it was bryceland or O'breslan
We've tried everything, hammers, sticks, canes, nothing works! :-)
Paul McCartney and Wings did quite a good job with this song.
I completely agree!!!
100%English but love Scotland. Put us together and you have it all.❤❤
We are all one x and should appreciate and love each other xxxxx Life is too short xxxxx
My wife's favorite pipe tune. Passed away a few years ago, and everyone at the backyard BBQ swung to the pipes. God Bless you my darling Claire
My grandfather was born in Scotland 🏴 and played the violin for the queen as a very young boy and I was so proud of him and loved him
I‘m german,a Kraut, but I m getting goosepimples by hearing those pipes I just love them ❤❤❤
It seems, from the internet, that all Germany is growing a Scot's love for the Dudelsack. Liked.
Ich ebenfalls :)

In 1745 they banned the pipes..calling them instruments of war by the loyalist govt....they were right to be afraid..imagine the feelings bestirred by these...
I marched with my unit and I can attest to this. The pipes just made us walk taller and proud to serve
It’s a myth that bagpipes were ever banned, the playing of them was restricted in the 16th century by the Scots king James 1st,but never banned! The Irish used Bagpipes in battle against the Scots at Falkirk, first time in recorded history they were used in such away!

There are heartbreaking stories of liberation from occupied Europeans that never even heard a bagpipe before.
Imagine the first thing you hear is rifle fire, that tells you allied soldiers are within Rifle range close.
Then you hear music you never heard before and never heard the germans play before.
Now imagine the feeling that causes.
Bagpipes from the back of the squad wasn't just silly sentiment it was as good if not better than a uniform for saying "we're here now were the good guys, your free"
Some survivors would burst into tears at bagpipes till their last day.
you know I can listen to many different types of music but, when it comes to bagpipes my heart just goes...
down
Ah moi aussi, rien de tel pour vous tétanisé quels musiques celtiques.
I am Italian, nonetheless I feel shivers down my spine and tears in my eyes when I hear the bagpipes
When I have a bad Hangover backpipes help me a lot 🤙afterwards I'm thinking about going to Scotland 🏴 forever and ever allies pray for the Auld alliance 🇨🇵
No other music reaches so deeply into my soul as that made by the bagpipes.
I love Scotland for keeping there true heritage and just being proud to be from the highlands. Love the bagpipes they get me every time. God bless Scotland
I am an American with a bit of Scotch Irish ancestry ! Bagpipes and drums make me want to kick a tyrants bloody arse !!

I'm second generation American of Scottish decent. We're all immigrants here. Thank you America. I love and respect my people who did the right thing. God bless Scotland.
The family came from Jura , Scotland in 1739. Immigrants made this nation strong. I hope to some day visit the land of our forefathers.
Oh was wundervoll das ist aus meiner Kindheit wundervoll ❤❤❤❤😊
My love and appreciation to the noble and brave Scottish people. Always ahead. A strong hug from a Spanish legionary.
The sounds of bagpipes can draw anyone into an experience of peace. I will always love hearing them...

That too...
This was played at my brothers funeral about 6 weeks ago our hearts are broken we miss him so much
Sad to hear. My thoughts are with you.
So sorry for your loss
send my love to you...your chinese...i am sure
I am half Highland Scottish - Clans Gibson-Buchanan traced back 1000 years. I am proud of my Scottish heritage above all other. My ancestors were driven from the Highlands when Brit King James re-wrote the Bible. "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live". Hence, it was open season on all Clan women who were herbalists. Lord William Gibson and his family sailed to Jamestown Colony in 1625, only to find the Narraganset Indians at war with the imperialistic British. We lost a few of the clan, but finally settled in Campbell County, Tennessee. Americans have a strong connection to their Scottish roots!
Yes we do! I am a proud 2nd generation American Scotsman!
Good on ya,
Mr. Sutherland - Alba go braugh!
Hi Mark, the British King you refer to, James, was a Scotsman! The son of Mary Queen of Scots.
Keith, he married a Dutchwoman brought her back over the English channel and ship almost sunk in a storm. He blamed it on Scottish Highland witches.
Because he was a Scotsman...
There is something stirring about the pipes. It's a beautiful sound.
It stirs the souls of our ancestors
Beautiful
Never get tired of this song no matter who is playing it.
My great grandmother was a Scottish woman who came to South Africa and married a Boer. I love the Scots, they are a proud nation. Love from Cape Town, South Africa 😍😄
My Celtic ancestors came to America in 1717, but listening to the pipes stirs something deep in my soul.
Mine also --- being literally "vaguely Scottish on my mither's side," but while I love Irish alcoholic folk songs, there is something granitic in the Scottish that talks to my soul. Take Irish music and add big gray boulders...
the bagpipes can bring you to tears and take on the world before the end of a song. nothing more hauntingly beautiful or inspiring.
No fear comes to mind, proud to be scottish
Just love that there are so many pipe bands throughout the Western world. Makes me proud to be a Scot. Great rendition of this stirring tune as well.
Scottish Bagpipers are the best in the World. Greetings from Germany.
@@peterriedl5894 I also like the Irish ones . But the Scottish bagpipes got a certain authenticity that I find really enjoyable
AYE but don't forget that you all Scottish, English, Irish and Welsh people use the word 'guys "and were does that come from? I have always hated that word in the English language so if there is anyone out there who is not in the American way of speaking it will be fecking marvelous, good. Fucking wonderful
I can't understand why you English people have to use the American language only because they have taken over your tv programmes and Cadbury chocolate fabrics.
Why you allow it I will never know
Let England be England and America so but still contact
I am a native American, and this is one of the most beautiful songs and music I've ever heard! One of my most favorites!
As a nothern german I feel like a scot: we speak a dialect that nobody understands, we are rough because of the weather (that nobody else likes) and we drink to much. Love to all scots! And I love bagpipes...
Da bekommt man richtig Gänsehaut. Wunderbar gespielt von den Jungs. Super
Yes the bagpipes go into my heart and soul ❤️

If Paul McCartney never wrote anything else, this is his shining song 🎵
Denny Lane co wrote it. Paul bought out the publishing rights from Denny after he had financial problems.
Agreed
Paul McCartney as in the Beatles Paul McCartney? Or a different one?

I'm drawn to listening the pipes and always, always cry. I don't know why, but it's been that way since I was very young.
I'm back again listening. This time, I brought my Kleenex, because I know what will happen ... always does ... makes me cry. I wish I knew why.

The sound of the bagpipes brings warmth as well as tears. The bBest musical instrument.

I got stranded (camper van breakdown ) in invraray the local garage towed us to the local car park within 30 minutes one of the locals came round to see if we needed water food toilet facilities . We had a walk through the village and the pipebands were practising . Where i live what they practice is antisocial. It was one of the best nights in Scotland . We stopped there a couple of nights beautiful pepole beautiful place . But we've been all over Scotland and never felt more welcome

Mull of Kintyre was written by Paul McCartney - he's English.
As someone of Scottish ancestry, I thank you sir!
Es ist so wunderbar und es ist immer wieder in meinem Herzen ❤❤❤
Music unites people magically, especially Celtic Americans whose roots are Scottish. This is simply wonderful.
Yeah, but these are german pipes and drums
Beautiful sound that always makes me feel good.
Before entering WWII my Dad was a drummer in a bagpipe band. After the war he mostly drank and sang Scottish songs.
I bought one of the first EPs of The Mull of Kintyre while working at General Motors in Motherwell near Airdrie Scotland circa 1978. This one made me cry even after some 43 years. The German Highlander's beard is awesome.
This song just says to me that Paul McCartney must have really loved Scotland......and to add to that....these Germans here really knocked it out of the park with an excellent rendition of the tune.
Beautiful music absolutely fantastic thanks
He loves Scotland enough to live there for the past 50 years :)
@Scimmia He spent a few long summers there back in the 70's I've heard...and that is when he wrote the song. Yes, saying he lived there for the past 50 years was a bit much....but he has frequently visited there for about that long.
He loved it so much because he grew his cannabis there for a long time before being caught.
73% of the players are scottish including myself players from minden osnabruck and raf guterslow
I love how the pipes raise the hairs on my scalp and bring me to tears.
The music speaks the words
Sir Paul loves his heritage
as do I
What a glorious melody that tears at your heart.
Really mesmerizing music, rejuvenating and nourishing one with enormous Energy !
Why does my heart thump when I hear this? ..... I'm Irish x
Nobody's perfect

Because there is nothing like the bagpipes in the whole world.
Thank you Paul McCartney for having composed this splendid tune in 1977.

The you tube miracle, or how someone from the Canary Island, more than 2500 miles away, can be moved by the sound of the proud pipes and drums of Scotland.
The blessings of technology. I am loving working from home this last year- I have found all this wonderful music on TH-cam that I can revel in.
Eyes welling with tears for a land I shall never see
Yet with such sounds and visuals created within
Suddenly I am .. there....
vicariously ... traveling the Mull of Kintyre...
Take me .. with you again......
Heart rending. The pipes bring tears to my eyes.
Whoever gave this performance a thumbs down needs some hearing aids. 😭😭😭🙌
Jennifer Knight Amazing Grace has the most powerful effect on everyone when it’s played on bagpipes.
You never shall forget that

Loved this song. i heard it the summer before i started playing the pipes in a small South Carolina town that actually had a fantastic pipe band at the High School. Thanks for posting!

Nothing Like The Pipes No Matter Where You Come From!!
These are the most Scottish looking Germans who ever lived! When I heard this tune the first time I assumed it was hundreds of years old straight out of the Highlands couldn't believe it was Paul McCartney definitely his best number!
German bagpipes playing a song about Scotland written by a Liverpool Englishman of Irish descent. Maybe we should stop fighting about our parochial differences and focus on all the shared things we love.
