Played with the rage of a 16 year old who lost his father. Inspiring and heartbreaking.
Wow, amazing and touching.
Kid sat down at a drum set and walked away from a pile of sawdust
Getting to be with thousands and thousands of people saying 'Yes, we miss him too. He was wonderful and now it sucks he's gone' while you honor the person you lost will probably cover about 2 years of therapy.
I was there, and when I just turned 17 I lost my father to substance abuse, god bless this guy, he kicked ass, it was one night to remember
@@joer2513 RIP man. I just lost a friend to h several weeks ago. (trigger warning ahead) He was found in his car in a motel parking lot, had been there for 3 days (in the sweltering summer heat). Just brutal. It's an epidemic affecting all demographics and backgrounds. Hoping for a better tomorrow.
The tormenting irony of Dave being a drummer who lost his singer, and now a singer who lost his drummer💔
Damn that’s deep.
Heavy
Now THIS comment hit me, as a bassist who's lost people.... damn.... well put. That put it on a different level. Doubly sad now :(
at least his drummer left backup ❤
Damn bro made me tear up
Every band member on stage saw the best thing that their friend ever did in his life behind those drums: Shane.
Got me crying with this comment. Truth.
let s mention the mother too, since they do an hard job and they are barely mentioned all the times.
@@sugarx6687well the father died. so that’s why they only mentioned him.

The sorrow
The anger

Yea he does ❤its Amazing 👏
He's got trauma
@@Saku19damn right he does. but I don't think he will allow that to define him. having lost a parent at a young age myself, I feel for him. but this kid has a support system most people couldn't even dream of having. he's going to be fine - no, better than fine, he'll be fantastic.
Kinda hope he continues drumming in the band, obviously not all the time but it’d be cool for him on future concerts
For sure! That performance was everything… with THAT song! 🔥
He hit those drums so hard as if he was trying to make sure his dad heard him. Absolutely amazing.

Couldn't have put it better myself

Oh he heard him alright. Taylor was in that room that night, pretty sure everyone felt it.
Just made me cry again thank you haha but yes he did!
His father would be unimaginably proud of Shane, didn’t miss a single beat, phenomenal performance
4:03 Agreed.. And, is it just me? But this is where Shane absolutely Exploded (in a good way). . Imo too say that this was an epic performance is simply an understatement
This kid is definitely going places. Just seeing his expression and the energy he puts out while jamming out on the that set
He even broke his right drumstick and gave two fucks about it, he just kept punishing the tom drums. Keep on rocking, Shane. Keep on

This has become one of my favorite drum performances of all time. You cannot possibly get more passionate than a kid who just lost his dad. You can see the pain on his face and he’s channeling it into something positive.
I have watched this video at least 10 times and it gives me chills each time. Yes, Shane is very passionate.

When the camera angles show everyone (5:09), even the other band members, looking at Shane that's when you realize he was the show. What an emotional performance!
I appreciate how ALL of them checked in on him throughout the performance.
So much talent, passion and composure for a 16 year old on what must have been such an emotional occasion. Shane did his father proud!
Nothing to say .......freaking bad ass !!!!!!!! He needs to take his dad's spot in foo !!! Do his education on the road like Wolfgang van Halen did ...that kid is music 🎶
@@scottwoods2621 can’t say I disagree. I suspect the natural urge will be to be protective of him. Foos could take a 2 year hiatus and then have him offically join at 18 years old and maybe with a new album.

The way Dave looked at Shane knowing his best friends legacy will live through Shane is the most touching /genuine experience you can see on stage
Seeing how elated Dave and Pat were to soo Shane smack those skins so hard, as hard as his dad did! Beautiful. I'm looking forward to seeing Shane succeed in his band, or even being a part of the Foos when he is older. Stunningly sad and powerfully strong footage of a young boy mourning his papa.

Absolutely! Dave looks at Shane with such love in his eyes. I love this video.
They are all staring at him like proud uncles. There was so much love and happiness and emotional relief up there during that song. That kid is so strong and talented.

His father must've been so proud to see this. This young man carries the torch of those who are no longer here. He carries a legacy, and I don't think there's been anyone more fitting to carry that flame.
This is the most emotionally impactful performance ive ever seen, you can hear the pain that kid feels through the drums. Got a grown ass man shedding tears over here
The way Dave keeps checking in on Shane gets me EVERY TIME.
While I'm sure that is most of it, he also is letting Shane lead them the whole time. He's taking all their queues from him and seeing if he wants to throw in a fill at any point or just keep going etc.
Yes I agree. Kids got it in his DNA.
Dave is a True Papa.

I think he's loving watching him kill it more than anyone else in the crowd. He's all smiles when he looks back
Probably the most emotionally driven performances I've seen to date. He didn't care about the audience. Just played for his dad with so much passion. There was no doubt he was beating the hell out of those drums because he misses his dad. Never misses a beat, a cue, and nailed his embellishments, and played dynamically. He did this song right. Served its purpose. Rock on kid
This song has a whole new meaning now
@@gibroni22 For real. 😢💔🤘🏼

And the band’s support
I love Daves face when the kid hits us with a drum solo. Epic
The drummer is the heartbeat of any band. A band is nothing without its heart, and that boy who has had to grow up so fast is capable of continuing the heartbeat of his father. As long as that boy lives, his father lives. This wasn't just a performance, this was his final sendoff for his father. Superb.
The way he walks away when the song is over.. like he didn't want the applause or anything else, he just played as a tribute to his dad. Just beautiful

I don't think I've ever agreed with someone more on the planet
Humble just like his father

That drum kit will never recover from the beating they took that night. The end solo that was reminiscent of a Taylor solo while just looking at Dave, was a very powerful moment. Could watch this 100 more times and get the same feeling from it every time.
Young man let it all out and didnt hold back at all. You know his dad is proud
This whole performance is just painfully beautiful and moving. From a drummer who lost his front man, to a front man who lost his drummer, to a son who lost his father. Shane sure is playing with all the pain and love he feels. Absolutely stunning....
He’s also playing with a truckload of talent because somewhere Bonzo is impressed
Also of course he should finish school and whatnot, but what if he played only this song at every show he attended…at least until they found a permanent drummer but even maybe after that? I think that’d be so awesome!

It's an overflow of emotions for Dave. The solo that Shane played is Dave's trademark drum solo. It's a look of shock, pride and absolute happiness. It's a wholesome moment
This reminds me of Led Zeppelin and John Bonham who was the drumner of the band and after his passing his son performed with the band in a tribute ceremony. The performance of John Bonham' s son as well as seeing the performance of Taylor Hawkins son in this video just shows the love that these two sons have for continuing the drumming torch of their dads. God bless them 🙏🏾
There are very few videos that bring tears to my eyes. This is one of them.
As someone who's drummed for 35 years I can say the restraint he showed was amazing...situation like this you tend to get overwhelmed with adrenaline which causes you to A. speed up which isn't great for band and B. run out of gas and forget to breathe etc. He managed it like a pro, not easy
First thing I noticed....how well balanced he was. He was banging the hell out of those drums from the heart. But maintained composure thru it all...
And to be able to do that at his age. And probably one of the biggest rock concerts in history!!! Kid definitely has a future in this world. Taylor and everyone is proud of you kid
I bet he didn't breath. Bless him amazing
Was thinking this exact thing.
He was a bit quick at the start, which I’m sure was because of adrenaline. But I noticed on the turn around riff, before the first verse starts, that the boys slowed him down a bit. So it speaks to them overall as a band, to be able to communicate through their playing, what he needs to do. And it speaks to his maturity on the drums to realize it and adjust.
@@MrAdamloring1985 this is something I didn't notice, but it speaks volumes if they can communicate as a band even though this is hard for all of them, but especially for him... And they are not a band. They didn't play this a million times over the years... So to be able to do that is even more amazing.
The most powerful version of this song ever performed, IMO. Tears and goosebumps at the same time...
The song he plays on is not lost to us, either. It was the perfect one for him

I just realized that this must have been so hard for Dave. For over 20 years, he's looked back and seen Taylor playing drums during this song. To look back and see his son instead, and know that he will never see Taylor again, must be so hard. What a performance.
Crazy when you think those band mates knew Taylor better and longer than his own son probably. Must've been just as hard if not harder for them.
Especially since it's the second time he's had to go through this.
Hard...yes... but to look back and see his friends son playing.... what a beautiful problem to have.
Yes. Also looked back at him as a proud uncle.
Yes he did , part of his family ❤😢
Still get those goosebumps from listening to this, and seeing Shane do his father proud 🤘🤘🤘
I can't smoke this whole joint and watch this without bawling my eyes out...
Props to Dave and the band for pulling this off without losing it entirely
bro, how they even did the introduction without breaking???? When he said his name i was already in tears
@@rokxfull they must've had a lot of emotional moments already preparing this song with him
@@rokxfulldude I cried when it started with aurora and a video
He is such a strong man:(
Dave surely have experienced this before...
That kid has a bright future behind the drums. He looked incredible, and at such a young age. I guess it helps being so close to 2 of the best drummers of the past 30+ years. RIP Taylor
A bright future? I think his bright future has already happened
@@bjw9529 it only gets brighter from here
@@benedict9508 lars looks really proud in here 4:55
RIP
Not actually the best drummers … coming from a non drummer it seems I’ll say I understand saying that but NO not even close
Dave just watched Shane in awe and just had pure joy the entire song
love the aggression in the way he played. awesome
You could feel Shane's emotions in every stroke of his drumsticks. A moving performance. Godspeed to the Hawkins family.
Let's not be ridiculous man.
@@someguy5035 this actually ain't ridiculous. You can clearly see this kid is feeling it this performance. I almost shed a tear.
@Hunter Vonnegut no
@@Rippersauc3 Ok, so that is something you observe and that is what you should say.
"You could feel Shane's emotions..." This is ridiculous and embarrassing.
@@someguy5035 you're crying over youtube comments YOU'RE the one acting like a child
Holy crap! Incredible! Not an easy song to drum. He completely crushed it. His dad would be so proud.
Taylor is surely proud!!
Exhausting on the pedal for this song, he did great
Amazing!! 👌🏻
Holy degeneracy
I think the most impressive part is doing this on that stage in that environment. Large stages are not something just anyone can play on. The song is easy, but man on that stage in front of that crowd is so intimidating. I definitely could not do that at 16, no way. Imo this makes him such an amazing drummer to do this. ❤️
3:52 that emotional outpouring is something else 💔
Absolute chills watching this young man play. ❤
This will easily going down as one of the greatest moments in rock history. Shane did his dad so incredibly proud 👏❤️ #taylorhawkins

This performance literally gave me chills, this kid throws down just as hard as his dad, his father was definitely tearing up and banging his head in heaven😭😭😭
His father was right beside him
