- In this video I talk about how I came about buying the Triumph Tiger 800 XRX Low, I never thought I would have bought an adventure style bike because I didn't think they would be as good as a proper road bike, how wrong was I, hope you enjoy.

I had a VFR800 Fi, but couldn't live with the riding position, so I started to look round for alternatives. My friend had a Kawasaki Versys, and he offered me a ride. I initially declined, thinking that style of bike was not for me. He was adamant I would like it so I took it out for a ride... I absolutely loved the riding position! After looking a all adventure bikes on offer I ended up buying a 2011 Tiger 800 and I've never looked back. I can ride for hours on end without even the slightest of pains. Love it

Excellent video with really good advice. The Tiger 800 XRx is a really great bike for doing distance work as you know. Comfortable, economical and generally a great bit of kit. I nearly bought one in 2016 when the new version came out but funds didn't allow. 6 weeks ago bought a Yamaha MT-07 Tracer 700 and she's a brilliant bike, for me. Light quick, comfy and good on juice. So much lighter than the Tiger 955i I had and fits my bill perfectly. Didn't expect to like it however now done 1600 kms on her and just love her to bits.
You got to ride ride before you buy.................................

I had a Honda Shadow, Yamaha Stryker, and 3 different Harley models before I was introduced to the Tiger 800. I definitely like the Tiger over all those for comfort and practicality. It's basically a sport touring bike with off-road capability. It's likely not the best at any one thing but is sort of a jack of all trades. Very happy with mine...had it 3 weeks and just went over 1000 miles already 😁

Terrific wrap up mate. These 800's are an absolute Gem! I've have my Tiger for four years - longest I've ever had any bike for. Very much still in love with her and while I'm keen to see what Triumph announce next week with the 2018 models, I'm in no hurry to get rid of my bike.
I spend 90% or more riding time on the tar and changed the front to a Michelin Pilot Road Trail 110/80 (I think that is the size) from the OEM 100/90. Really helps stability in corners - not that you have a lot of them where you are mate :p.
Thanks Mike I'm also interested in what the 2018 models have to offer but like yourself I will be keeing this one for quite some time. Even though I'm happy with the tyres (Metzeler tourance) thanks for info on your choice, always good to look at other options when the time comes.
Guys go do a test ride on the 2018 models there is enough difference to make it worth while. The new electronics will blow you away. Plus then people who can't afford a new one ha e the chance of a used tiger making more people even happier. Hopefully if triumph sells more they will open more sales and service centers.
Been riding a ZRX1200 for 10 years but I'm going to try an NC750x DCT when they make it to the states. I've alway hated the way adventure bikes look but they look very comfortable. I've been riding since 1976 and I'm looking to start taking it easy.
This bike for me has been the most comfortable bike I've owned and I've had a few, as for looks they do grow on you because they are just such great bikes.
Great Video I owned a F700gs liked it but could use more power and suspension was a little weak and rear shock went bad , replaced the shock but sold it and and replaced it with a 2016 RS loved it for about a year then the suspension started to feel hard , rear shock felt stiff just like on the f700gs ,Marzocchi shocks just like the F700 I had the RS model with esa2 shocks electronic very few options to replace with aftermarket , I kind of missed the F700gs handing , but the RS was faster , I bought a 2015 800 xcx and fell in love , did everything the F700gs did but better , then Sold the BMW1200RS , was afraid of sinking lots of money in suspension and not being happy. The Wp suspension is so much better then the cheap Marzocchi shocks BMW puts on 20,000 dollar motorcycles ! I love my triumph 800. I put a madstad windscreen on the Triumph and the bike has better wind protection then the BMW 1200RS ( I had a givi larger screen on the BMW RS it was a lot better then the stock one but still was not great. )
First time I've heard anyone having issues with BMW'S suspension and on 2 different models, good to see your happy with the Triumph, definitely ticks all the boxes for me.
Like you, I didn’t like the style of adventure bikes or chain drive - I’ve been riding Harleys for over 25 years! Then, I test rode the tiger 800 xrt. It’s fantastic and so I’ve bought one.
I'm an aging Harley rider also. Looking for something to remind me of my ol' Ninja gPz 900 of my youth & the Tiger 800 looks like it will!
I don't suppose you saw my video on why I went with the Tiger 800, but it boils down to the same thing, comfort. I considered many of the same things you did, BMW and sport tourers, but it turned out an ADV form met my needs better. Cheers from a fellow T800 rider B-)
No I haven't but just watched it then, yes very similar reasons, like you say comfort was a priority and for me seat height was just as important, I forgot to mention that the Tiger was nearly $6000 cheaper than BMW1200RS so with all the accessories I've added it still nowhere near that price, although I did like the shaft drive on the BMW.
I have to say that your videos on the Leo Vince muffler and Rox Risers persuaded me into buying those items -)
I have a 2016 Tiger 800 XRX. I have owned a few bikes but the tiger is by far the best bike I have ever owned. The ergonomics are spectacular. I like you, thought, "Adventure bike? Yea right!" Now, if I want, I can cut across that dirt road if I want too. Thanks for the video. Great title!

Thanks Graham, I think they are to and even more so since the all new 2018 Tigers have arrived, the dealer I purchased mine from have reduced the 2017 models by $3000 plus free panniers.
Had Yamaha went Whyalla to lpswich. Qld big size
just ordered one coming march 1st 2018 hope its as good as every one says it is. bought for more road than off road but probly only use it on forestry roads off road ,cant wait to get on her its 2017 model .

very good . bike does what its supposed to do you can ride it slow and still be happy riding it and it handles the corners good when riding faster . wife likes going out on it as well . sounds good it got enough power for what its made for .

I've had 2 back surgeries and my right hip replaced. IT IS A CHORE to find a bike that doesn't put me in a hot tub with aspirin. The Harley sport glide and i'm mucking about with a F750GS to purchase.
Wow you certainly have been through alot and to have the passion to keep on riding that's awesome.The F750GS looks like a great bike and I'm sure if one was available when I was looking I would have taken one for a test ride. All the best and ride safe.

Not many police plenty of donuts! Chatham, wonder if any of your cousins are still there. I'm on the other side of the water (Thames) in Essex. Back in the 60s would have been easy to hop on a ship there and for £10 leave for Australia. Unfortunately can't be done today. Not sure I or the BSA could run in 43°. Hope you get back to England sometime but you may find it a little overcrowded!
That's what we were called £10 poms, my cousin's are in the Basingstoke area, from memory the last bike my dad had in the UK was a 1952 BSA 650 flash.
I was so surprised when I bought my new bike, I didn't think it would be so good on the road and dirt roads.
Certainly surprised me Kev and now that I have it I'm thinking of tackling some dirt tracks myself, something I haven't done in years.
Enjoyed the review, sunshine and a blue sky always help. You still have Police stations, the idiots in England have closed most of them!
Thanks Splodge it's actually a bit too warm today 43 degrees, so I wonder where all the police in the UK congregate for their donuts? Seriously though I see bike crime is really bad especially in London. I was born not to far from there in Chatham Kent, my parents moved here when I was only 2. Been back once but would love to come over again, have cousin's I've never met.
Hello! I just came across this video. How does your Tiger fair when climbing up/decelerating down mountain highway roads? I've been looking at the 2018 model and I'm considering it after watching this video. 👍
Hello there, I've not long returned from a trip which took me through the Grampians in Victoria, which I haven't posted yet. Fully loaded the Tiger handled it no problem. With 79Nm of torque I found when throttling off I was only feathering the brakes. Depending on how fast you like to ride of course. I absolutely love this bike and for 2018 Triumph have made alot of changes so I would recommend you take one for a test ride and see if it's for you. Good luck.

Karsten Lund thank you, I installed the muffler the day before the first service and triumph re mapped it for me, which I mentioned in the walk around video.

I really wanted a BMW in the beginning but very happy with the Tiger, plus it was $8000 cheaper, with everything I've added to it, it still way off that mark. Thanks for watching.

Is that the high windscreen you have on ? I also ride a 800xrx and broke the standard one so i a, thinking of replacing it with the higher version. greetings from the netherlands, Steve.
Hi Steve, the screen is standard height which I find is working OK for me, I get a bit of buffeting at the top of my helmet but if I lower my head a little I find that I don't have any air flow through my helmet which is not good on warmer days. Was your old bike a Yamaha 650 Maxim? I had one of those. It was Shaft drive and very comfortable. I am 5'9"
Unfortunately the maxim was never exported to Australia, my XJ650 I think was known as the seca in America, still had a low seat height which was good for my first big bike. We had that and the twin cylinder chain driven XS650 specials which was a similar style to the maxim. I had one of them too untill about 5 years ago.
What is your inseam, if you don’t mind? I too am short but looking to get an adventure bike... as well as a naked
Hi Mark my inseam is 29in with riding boots, if you go to the video of my 12 month review you will see me sitting on the bike with no issue, I think the Triumph xr series low would have to be the lowest adventure bike on the market, good luck with your search.

Hi HIias Theo from Greece, the muffler I have is the Leo Vince Evo II which I think has been discontinued or they now call it the LV ONE EVO, either way I think the sound and quality would be the same, available in carbon fiber or stainless steel, hope this helps.

how s the wind protection
It's perfectly fine for me but taller riders experience some buffering around the top of the helmet, The 2018 model however has a taller and wider screen as standard so it will be interesting to see rhe reviews on that. My only issue would be to much wind protection in warmer temperatures.

The C in Tiger XC, stands for "Cross"
You didn't buy an adventure motorcycle. You bought a road bike built on a platform used also for an adventure bike.
You are correct pat, I was after a road bike not an off road bike which doesn't interest me, but ended up liking an adventure styled bike. Thanks for watching.
