      The folks at Roger Clarke claim 420bhp on the V7/V8s before major problems and rebuilds.
      Some make a little more, 430-450 reversing the inlet manifold, air con delete etc for a front mount, before major problems.
      Oil changes every 1500-3000miles always help.
      Nice car BTW, probably the best of all road going Subarus.

    I've owned a few JDM GC8's EJ20G, EJ20K, EJ205, EJ207, they all feel pretty darn similar. I'm pretty positive all 92-96 EJ20G are closed deck (can confirm my 94 RA is closed deck at least). It was the EJ20G in the 97-98 Foresters and WRX hatchbacks that were open deck. They had the code name EJ20G but in reality they were basically phase 1 EJ205's. As for the 180km gauges part of your video. GC8 STI could be had with a 240km gauge from factory (two of my cars had them).
    I also live in Alberta and also owned a handful of imports 5-10 years ago for dirt cheap (many Subaru's, Evo 6, Soarer, RX7, ect) all for less then $10k. Crazy what people will pay for them now. These cars use to be so dispensable that no one took care of them. I'm glad I still have one of my GC8's after all these years luckily.

    I have a ej207 v7 in my bugeye. Kinda same type of feelings as you, its a beast and I think its one of the best subaru made. Always descriped it as it sings at high RPM. But its a little bit of a freak in how fast it really is, mine is tuned and pretty much all the bolt ons. Ive taken cars I should not of been able in that one, and that includes ej257 cars with bigger turbos. I think there is alot going on particularly in the V7 in regards to its better in real life than it should be on paper. I also have ej257 with a blouch 1.5xtr in my GC, I do think that car is faster(I really need to take both to the drag strip) but maybe not be that much. And its a totally different feeling driving the two, the 207 just wants to GO and sing at those high rpms, the 257 is a good engine but it just feels slower, more sedated than the 207. Think of it this way, the 207 is kid with ADHD that just ate a bag of candy, the 257 is that kids dad. Slower moving but same kind of energy.

      For sure! I have only driven one car with an ej207 but it was pretty great. I live in the US (land of the blown-up ej's) and have owned a few ej powered cars. A legacy wagon with th ej222 which made it to 380,000 miles, an ej253 in a forester that i drove for a couple years with no issues, and the ej257 in my current car. No problems at all. Just keep up on maintenance. Some engines are idiot proof, but i don't think subaru engines are. Probably not even the legendary 207. Even the US spec engines make for reliable cars as long as the operator has at least half a brain

    I have a bugeye wagon with the ej207 v8 under the hood. Anybody reading, you won't regret buying one they are amazing. I want to switch to a front mount eventually but for now I'm rocking the fattest top mount that I could find. I'm sure a bigger turbo would be nuts, but with my wiseco pistons, manley rods, and some good bolt ons the twin scroll is just the little cherry on top. GO GET A 207, the low end torque makes you wonder why you ever drove a usdm wrx, and the looks from the 5.0 owners is hilarious when you fly by in a stock looking wagon.

      Hey my bugeye wagon has 210k miles on it and I'm considering swapping in an ej207 from jdmracingmotors, I would put the full link but youtube doesn't like that, I'm wondering if you did the swap and what you thought of getting a motor from these guys, or just any general advice really, thank you!

    • @jackmitchell6354
      @jackmitchell6354 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@crunchysoup406 I did do the swap myself! It’s very straightforward, its completely comparable except for the ecu side of things. Depending on what version you are looking for, get the matching ecu of correct version. From here drop the motor in and get an iwire kit to plug avcs into your ecu and wiring harness. It’s a very simple task of pinning in 4 wires in the engine bay and not too many more into the ecu inside of the car.

    • @jackmitchell6354
      @jackmitchell6354 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@crunchysoup406 I haven’t dealt with jdmracingmotors, but generally most of the 207s that come over are very safe. Most of the motors coming over are at 25k miles due to emission regulations in Japan, so it’s a better route then buying a random ej from fb marketplace or whatever. Ironically I got mine on Facebook from a reputable dude who built the bottom end and rolled his car so I kind of scored, but don’t buy off fb unless you talk to the guy and make sure he’s knowledgeable and not some “stage x” because that will lead to a mismanaged motor 👍

If the block is opened up you can at least be certain it’s an STI engine if the cylinder walls are supported at the 12-3-6-9 locations around the wall “clock face”. It’d be best to make sure wherever you’re buying from is reputable!

    Its the best they made, but performance wise, only with AVCS and in the Spec-C/RA-R variant that comes with long runner manifold that has no TGVs, and importantly the VF42 twin scroll turbo/exhaust. Basically the engine which came with the S204. It was the only way to best optimise the loonnnng headers up to the turbo for better response, especially with the AVCS. Run it on E85 for the ultimate.

    The thing to think about would be streetability vs track use i suppose. For street use having that 2.5 low end with a long rod and high comp piston maybe 8.5 or 9 will give you an immense amount of smoother than stock usable daily power over having to push the 207 to higher rpm constantly. "long" EJ 25 rods +2 mm, 15-18lb flywheel and a fluidampr would net you a far superior day to day engine. Would not have to bother switching to an equal length or a twin scroll to get 2500rpm full spool time either. OF COURSE there are ways to get that midrange power into the 207, but realistically its not the same just in terms of physical mass and engine stress, hauling people/tools/groceries is more realistic with the 25 imo
    If we are talking track and spirited driving cars hell yeah solid motor, keeps you in boost well and has a very refined and free feel to it.
    If you are interested in learning any additional super nerd grade specifics about the EJ motor you might look at MotoIQ, haltech, FlatIronsTuining, or baderbuiltracing. Not always application appropriate but hey might as well learn everything about it before its antiquated and gone!

    I’ve owned an ej207 ver7, a ver8 and a ver9.
    I like the equal length header and twinscroll turbo engines better than the single scroll ver7. Throttle response and driveability is better from my perspective.

      @@ronnieboucherthecrystalcraftsm I like honda engines, they are amazing. Anybody that wants to put down an ej207 with equal length headers makes that same comment, I take no offense. Besides, I also own a gd wagon with unequal length headers with proper Subaru rumble. I have the best of both worlds.
