I swapped my 2019 MX-5 Club for a 2024 WRX (both manual) and have to say that the current WRX is a snail below 3k RPM. Above that it's pretty quick, but it has zero down low power, atleast compared to a completely stock ND2/ND3 Miata. Still a fun car and has plenty of power once the turbo gets spooled up, but it lacks the immediacy of a naturally aspirated engine. I'm only talking about road use, never tracked either of them. Freeway passing power is different but comparable. The Miata is more responsive, but after the turbo lag, the WRX is much quicker than the Miata at speed.

Nothing like a 08-09 Legacy Spec. B.. STI Trans, R180 LSD Rear Diff..and a 2.5 L engine not like the imported 2.SLOW.. add a VF52 Turbo and you're up to par the the STI's at the time.. Only made for 2 years and for sure will be a classic in the future... Glad I HAVE ONE with JDM bumpers and DAMD Wide Fenders.. Creme a la Creme..

Not the WRX’s power is the problem but the people’s ego! 276 hp for this car is plenty enough for the public roads! The car’s limit is much higher than mine. Once I slide off the road in a thigh corner bc I was pushing the gas pedal too much. ( the traction control was turned off). If this car would have more power I would have been in a much bigger trouble for sure! This car is not designed to be a street light fighter but to give you some of the rally experience meanwhile you can drive it every day. Rallying is not about going fast on the highway! If you don’t get it you don’t understand the main purpose of this car! These days many people think everything is about the numbers, but people forgot what driving is really about! All the modern technology gave us the false confidence that we can drive anything, but if you turn off all the electric then the real driving knowledge is coming out. This car is plenty powerful for every average driver.

As a VB owner myself, does anyone else have an aftermarket exhaust and experience a buzzing sound in the rear side door panel or handle on the top? Great video btw!

Good, consise summary of the car.

I have a ‘22. It needs 300+ HP. It also needs the tuning fixed bc it almost never goes over 9psi. In 1rst it will max out at 13.2. But, in 3rd and up and on the highway, even when u downshift, the boost doesn’t go over 9, which doesn’t make any sense. Why have up to 13psi, but only use that much boost in 1rst and 2nd. Now, if anyone else knows about this, is this normal or is there something wrong with my car?

i was in germany for 3 months, and i was driving a 1.8l diesle volkswagen transporter, which it can only go up to 160km on a flat surface,if its uphill,full throttle will decellorate,and 0-100 is about 20seconds cause the car has 550000km on it,and on autobahn unlimited speed zone i still pass 90% of cars,in real life ,lot of germen drives the mercedez a class with the 1.0L engine which i remeber has around 60-80 horsepower

0-100 kmph equates to 0-62 mph when you convert kmph to mph. 0-100 kpmh will always have a longer acceleration number than 0-60 mph.

I have owned 2 VA STI's, a VA WRX, I currently own a Blobeye STI (05, which imo is the best STI they made) and i daily a 22wrx... overall the STI is still more of a raw experience, but the VB is an amazing daily compared to any of the previous gen WRX's... btw with just a ETS intake, and a Dmann, tune, the car really comes alive and feels way way better than stock.. If you are on the fence, go test drive one..

You've clearly never been in Germany. Sure, unlimited speeds, but everyone still sits happily between 60 and 80 miles pr hour. Because fuel expenses go through the roof the moment you go beyond 60.

Glad you are enjoying your TR. Is it fast? I don't think so in today's perspective. EVs are wiping the floor with ICE cars:th-cam.com/video/x3SuhXcmlWA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qsGsMpamNFqZ8bp7. But to be honest that's not why you buy cars like these. It's quick its nimble; comes with the stick and handles well for a 4 door sedan. If the next gen WRX/STI is gonna be EV as rumors have it then this platform will be one to hold on to.

Had a VA STi and now a VB TR. The TR is better than my STi was in every way, except the engine noise.

Great review ……. You’re right about the platform………0-60 stats mean nothing. This is not a dragster and doesn’t claim to be one. It is an amazing platform with an incredible AWD system designed to carve twisties, handle, be stable in high speed turns. “Fast”? - how about quick agile………..

I have a '22 and its a fun to drive car at a reasonable price that you can make lots of improvements to and make it even better. Why doesnt anyone do performance tests with it against it's competitors in snow, ice, mud?

Honestly man. After having the opportunity drive a zl1 1LE and really put the hammer down on that car. Nothing feels even close lol. Not even the GT350 I had. The ZL1 is a híper capable sports car that cost less than 100k.

What’s interesting is that the vb only makes ~5hp less than a jdm twinscroll gen 4 legacy (271 bs 276hp), the powerband looks nicer though

They are very quick stock. The quick 6 speed ratio and the all wheel drive make a great package . The one thing no one mentions is the driver makes all the difference into how this car is used to its full potential stock . Thank you for the great content.

Its a interesting car it does casual so well.. Ive noticed when im not in mood for casual or we need to pick up the pace a lot.. this car reminds me of my old eclipse gst and has the same no Effing around feel. The balance of these two worlds it does better then any other turbo car ive owned. Its really a very capable machine but refined enough as you said I think thats why some older subaru fans dont seem to appreciate this i guess as much as myself

I discovered WRC in late 90's and fell in love with it. And from the start I was a hard core fan of Subary no mater who the drivers wore. Then Loeb came and ruined it all 😄.

I think the new VB handles better than the STI. That being said the STI puts the power down better, especially hard on the gas coming out of tight corners. No more STI’s with a warranty available and the VB is WAY easier to add power too. Any one ever look into what it takes to get 325 to the wheels in a STI? I did, then bought a VB.

They have plenty of cars available for media but when the costumer pays real dollar, wait for 3 months.

as a side note, all the higher trims TR/RS, TS, Sport, and Sport-Tech, are all just as fast as the base model, and all have open diff. it's mind boggling. just give us an STI already.

If I had extra 8K USD to spend I would get a Civic type R or GRC. More potent engines with warranty at similar price point as the TR in thel US. However, value for money the premium or base trim is way better and affordable when you end up getting the same power. For a 271 hp car street car for carrying family brembos and recaros are an overkill.

If you don’t have kids sure. If you got a family the outback wilderness will not be lacking in terms of acceleration, it will blow the WRX out the door for utility and the only thing missing is manual.

I agree. Compared to pricing of Base and Sport trims, TR pricing is reasonable considering you are getting Recaros and Brembos. One annoying thing is that Subaru’s announcement of Ts trim right after RS(TR). It feels like the TR trim was put together in a bit rush by adding some extras from parts bin, and soon they realized they should do a Ts trim. I wouldnt be surprised they sell Ts trim for one year as well.

The TR was designed by Subaru engineers who have loads of experience and expertise. They didn’t just smack some parts on the TR. They modified the chassis and the entire suspension to accommodate those brakes and wheels. The also retuned the steering. Then, I presume, they tested all of it. Not everyone wants to mod their car. Some of us are willing to pay for installed enhancements.

I'm a 23 base owner, man they really upped the price for the 24 base model for no real reason this year here in canada. The only upgrade really is the infotainment, but personally i prefer the base infotainment and an upgrade is $500 on ebay for those who want it.

Very informative video! Just today, upgraded my 22 to a 24 WRX Premium. Like you, having the dealer install the Sport Grille and also the Fog Light Trim - LED to give it a unique look. Had to also go with the Sapphire Blue 😎
