- This video was made for a sociology "social norms" project. The student using the cell phone and the teacher (and myself) were the only ones in on the prank. The rest of the band, roughly 80 people, thought that the band director actually threw the student's phone and broke it.

One time in band class there was a kid named alek who was talking excessively loud and the director yelled at him but he kept talking. He then yelled after about 5 times "do you want to be in your own special place across the room?" and then the kid says "You realize being across the room doesn't change my loudness" and the band director yells for 30 seconds and there is just a brief moment of silence. I am a pro comedy person so I think about breaking the silence. I am also in the percussion section of the band so I blurt "don't be a smart alek" and i turn around, hit the snare twice, and hit the cymbol mimicking a rim shot as used in jokes. Let's just say the director didn't approve

Since I'm a first chair clarinet player, I feel really bad for that student having her phone being thrown into the floor. My band director wouldn't do that to any of the band people in my school, but nowadays they ignore her by not putting their face mask on like they are supposed to due to COVID-19. She can get mad but she's a really nice director, they just need to listen to her though.

Why is this in my recommend? Idk. But reading the comments, I’m realizing that I’m not the only one with a truly psycho band director. Thankfully, I just finished that chapter of my life. But four years, man it was rough. He threw drumsticks. His wife (aka our assistant director-conflict of interests much?) threw chairs. But mostly, it was just their words. I’ve never felt like less of a human being than when those two were talking to our marching band.

my high school band director would NEVER smash a phone, and neither would I if I was a band director. that band director went too far! the band student thought it was bull crap because they might of had to buy another phone that costed a lot of money

How many students does he have in this class? 32? There are only 24 (23, 2 students moved to a different homeroom and another student came in) students in my classes, and on average, 2 teachers. Usually, one isn't really there except for homeroom.
A solution to this: Students should place their cellphones in their lockers. If not, it gets confiscated by a teacher and has to picked up by a parent.
I'm a student and this a rule at my middle school. This is not that strict compared to my elementary school's rule about this.
It was, "If you bring an unwanted item into school, it will be confiscated and you won't see it until June!" Even if it were a bag of Doritos that expire the next day. A phone. A toy. Candy. Unwanted folders. Makeup. Long nails. Pens. Mechanical pencils. Markers. Hats. Brushes. Gum.
Well..this is Band. Which typically had about 60-70 kids total if I remember correctly.

Yeah. I know that after I graduated they had over 100 students in the Band so they had to break the class into two. I think the Freshmen had a separate Band class from the upperclassmen.

Yeah. I believe my high school currently has 800-900 currently enrolled students with 150-250 students per grade. So for 100 band kids you figure that's 25/200(ish) students per grade that are actually in band. It's really not that crazy, and I've seen much larger high school bands.
