When I was in the 6th and 7th grade, my teacher assistant would throw out my lunch, and would regularly deny me lunch if I "didn't eat correctly". I am special needs, and that was unacceptable. My mom asked me why I would scarf down my dinner, and I told her why. Teacher was fired the next day.

+Wendy Domino Nah that teacher isn't mean.. That kid is in 5th grade and it is his own decision to not get lunch if all he has to do is do his work. People pay tax money for kids to go to school and learn so they can get an education and keep society moving forward, not to sit around most likely playing in class and then cry when they don't get food.
I'd rather my kid learn his lesson from not doing his work by not eating 1 meal out of his day than to get held back and go through that year again. You guys act like that 1 meal is going to kill him....

Layla LaDouceur No, I don't. The kid was told if he did the work he could eat. At that point, it is his decision on whether or not he eats. He can do the work and eat, or not do it and not eat.
At that point, it is the kid that is holding himself back, not the teacher. If the kid did the work and the teacher didn't let him eat, then it is the teachers fault.

Clinton K I'm not talking about breaking the law., I was more focussed on morality which isn't always the same as legal perspective. Legally, maybe she can do that but morally, you can't deny someone a meal. Like, maybe they are super poor. Biologically speaking, some of the high in fat conent foods are cheap and expensive foods are typically the healthier food options. So maybe the dad is a big guy because he always buys unhealthy as a result of finances. I was speaking from a place of - don't eff up a child's development perspective as opposed to a legal one.

When I was 9 years old, We were all going to lunch and this lady I've never seen before pulled me aside and told me not to get food until she came back. I never knew if she was a teacher, counselor, etc. but for almost the entire lunch break I obeyed and I sat watching all my friends eating while my stomach was starving. Around the last 10 minutes they all convinced me to get something to eat so I went with about 6 minutes left on the clock to eat. The lady appeared at that time and yelled at me in front of everybody. Obviously as a nine year old who never got in trouble before, I was scared and cried of humiliation/embarrassment for being yelled in front of the entire cafeteria. I never saw that lady again, I never knew who she was or why she told me to do that. The school denied it ever happened. Then again, this was years ago.

Well if your child has low blood sugar im sure you would let the teachers and school nurse know. If there’s a health reason she would have let him go to second breakfast. I think the father should have fed his child or dropped him early for first breakfast. Or explained to the school that it’s crucial his son eats while at school. Because he may not afford food. Communication with adults is important because children do lie to get out of things. And many kids throw the food away because they weren’t really hungry

I had a friend in middle school who was diabetic and the school took away the entire lunch she brought from home. All because there was a candy bar, in case her blood sugar dropped. The school didn't even allow her to have her insulin on school grounds, not even in the nurses office. They considered anything, other than Tylenol, a illegal substance or an healthy lunch. (Despite only selling fried, greasy foods and ice cream)
We had a class together after lunch, so I snuck my fun-size candy in my pocket. When she asked to go to the nurse, I was asked to follow so "she doesn't leave the school". She collapsed and I just barely caught her. I snuck the candy in her mouth, whispered, "eat this and hold on" and booked it as fast as one piggybacking a fellow teen could.
An ambulance was called and her blood sugar was so low, she could've died. I was told that bit of sugar I gave her was the only thing that kept her. The school demanded she tell them who gave her the "drugs" and she refused. Their excuse to them nearly killing her was, "she got her fix somehow".
Many lawsuits came on them for other reasons, but she didn't even tell her parents until we graduated that I was the one who gave her the candy. They thanked me for saving her and all I said was, "it was just a feeling I had that she'd need it."
I didn't understand diabetes and still kinda don't. All I knew was her blood sugar was going to be low and I knew that I would be called to "walk" her to the nurse. If she didn't eat something, something bad would happen. I didn't think she could die, but that was a very sobering experience, knowing you may have saved someone by doing something as tiny as giving them some candy.

Initially i was assuming that the teacher took away the kid's meal from him but it turned out that the dad is upset that the school didn't feed his kid when in fact it is his responsibility to feed his child. It is not the school's and society's responsibility to do so. It's the dad's primary responsibility to feed his kid at home before coming to school. Second chance breakfast is only there as a privilege. IF the dad took the time to feed his kid and into making sure that the kid completed his work, then it wouldn't have been an issue. There are 3 breakfast periods in CA. There’s traditional breakfast, which begins about 40 minutes before school. There’s “Breakfast in the Classroom,” upon which this segment touches. At this time, a monitor delivers a breakfast snack (like a muffin with fruit) and milk to the kids. What most call “Recess,” we call “Nutrition,” which occurs at around 10:20am. Kids can eat from the cafeteria during Nutrition, and many middle and high schoolers have access to vending machines as well. By 11:40, it’s lunch time, and the State will feed the kids yet again. The State offers a free program, called “Beyond the Bell,” which feeds the kids free snacks at around 2:30pm, regardless of individual income as long as 50 percent of the school’s kids are eligible for free lunch. In LA, there’s a 5th feeding of “supper,” at over 500 schools in low income areas, which any child (no attendance requirement, capped at age 18) can access, whether or not the child attends Beyond the Bell. CA offers kids over 4000 calories per day.

I don't know.....I'm kind of leaning toward the teacher's side on this one. Breakfast isn't a required meal to be given at school like lunch is. Also, it was mentioned that this incident has occurred before. I have a theory. Perhaps this student has a record of not doing his homework and could even be one of those students who is not the best behaved or studious and this could play an additional factor in the teacher not allowing him 2nd chance breakfast. You know like she's denying him a privilege based on his actions. A lot of parents today think their child is perfect and innocent and are not holding them accountable for anything and they lash out at the teacher/school for trying to reprimand the kids and try to get them sued or terminated or whatever. As a result of this these teachers are powerless to control their classroom which is why students are running wild now. I could be completely wrong, but just a thought.

I remember when I was in 4th grade there was a some lunch thing going on where if you didn’t pay for your lunch you didn’t get the food and in front of all the kids you would get your tray taken away for just a sandwich.. and I seen my best friend go through it every day and he got so tired of it he was always hungry he got sick.. so I hate when anyone gets denied food I think it’s cruel and children should be able to have the time to eat and not suffer till they get off school.. that’s y kids get sick too you know.

That same thing happened to me when I was 8. I went to go to lunch and the lunch lady called out, in front of all of my friends and everyone in the lunchroom, "Are you (My name)?"
    Me: "Ummm yeah?"
Lunchlady: "You haven't paid for lunch in 2 days. No lunch until you pay." I mean its not the same exact thing but its kinda similar. My family and I were having money problems at that time and thats why I had not paid, because we barely had enough money for even our bills.

Without knowing the full situation you have no right to judge. What if he is a single father who has to go to work too early to be there to fix breakfast? What if the family is going through some temporary hard times and is having to rely on the free meals provided by the school? What if those times he was denied breakfast at school happened to correspond with family emergencies (like an illness or injury in the family? Like I said if you don't know the full situation you have no right to judge,

    • @CG-pj4dh
      @CG-pj4dh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@rhondaflesher8313 that’s most likely what’s going on, but its still not the school fault. They are only obligated to feed lunch. The father should contact other resources for help. Instead of putting frustration on someone else. He could have set up a meeting to explain his situation instead of arguing in front of other people’s children and filming them.

Man this brings back unpleasant memories. In kindergarten, my grandma would give me lunches with soda and chips. The teacher said she didn’t tolerate junk food and would not allow me to eat ANY of my lunch. Instead she offered alternate “snacks” I guess she provided herself. Can’t tell you how many times I subsisted on her carrot sticks to last me the entire day.

Schools have breakfast programs for kids who do not get breakfast to eat (some eat there because of family income and he doesnt need to disclose that). I don't think denying children access to food is acceptable punishment. Take away recess time or something, not food.

Some parents have to go to work early. Not having the time to feed their children breakfast. Because they have to leave home before they are able to do so. Be it both parents are a single parent. This very well could have easily been the case for this father. He may very well be a single parent , nothing was said about that. So we don't know the situation there. It's a fact of life now days of some parents having to leave for work before their able to feed their children breakfast. I know this takes place due to some class mates of my own daughters when she was in school this was taken place then. Nor were their parents poor. They just both had to be at work earlier which prevented them from doing so and wasn't able to do what most parents do , fix breakfast for their children. With some parents this is a fact both parents having to work and having to leave before they could feed their children breakfast. Some have no choice in the matter if they want to support their families. This is a fact of what's taking place and has been for awhile now. I know because my daughter is now 28 years old with children of her own . Were she was in grade school when this took place. I've seen it first hand. So please don't judge this father without having all the information into the situation. This breakfast isn't just for poor children either it's actually a program for all of kids . Due to some parents having to be at work early. It's part of a program put in place because kids were doing without breakfast not just the poor. Yes it was started saying it was for the poor. Because no one wanted it known that even parents who could afford food for their children their children was going to school without breakfast. So it was placed on the poor people to keep it from being know even parents better off , children was dealing with the same thing. If you don think so , will I've to spoken with parents first hand. Who were not poor dealing with this same thing. They were embarrassed about the matter. So once again things like this program was said to be designed for the poor .To protect the better off family's from such embarrassment as not having time to make this own children breakfast in the morning sending their children to school without breakfast due to their work hours. It's a government game that's being played. So again you don't know all the facts please don't judge this father. You don't know his situation.

P.S. My daughter also went to a private school. A private school cost money. Yet they had this same program there as well . Were these parents could afford breakfast for their children same as I could. So no this program isn't just for the poor it's for all the kids . For it was taken place also in private schools as well. .

Stop trying to find fault with the parent.
Those breakfasts are paid with TAXPAYER MONEY, and if Dad works, he's paid fir his kid to have breakfast at school if he chooses.

All the parents got money back during the times their lunch was taken away by our kindergarten teacher, my mom was the most pissed. She was actually close to hitting her.
Get this, not only did we not know it was illegal and are now unable to press charges. The school board knew about it and she STILL works there today as a pre-k teacher.

Missing breakfast can make you gain weight. There are lots of kids who don't have a parent there to cook them healthy breakfasts let alone any meals. I was lucky to have home made nutritious meals cooked for me and as hard as it was for me, i cooked for my son tho he also was approved for subsidized breakfasts, I just feel that none of us know why this kid or his father are over weight. I can only guess that one or both parent work and spent their evenings in drive thru lines instead of grocery lines. Denying this boy food (skipping meals) is only teaching his body to starve itself so when he eats anything, he'll over eat.
