    Prince William’s role in stopping his uncle Andrew appearing in public this week was splashed across front pages.
    The Daily Mail’s Diary Editor Richard Eden says this was an example of how he is ‘throwing his weight around more’, by refusing to appear at the Order of the Garter procession alongside his disgraced uncle Prince Andrew.‘
    This was an example where he was saying “enough is enough”, no way am I going to be there,’ he tells our programme Palace Confidential. ‘It would have been a terrible look, it’s good, it’s reassuring that William knows that and he knows how damaging that is.’

    The lady in blue who contributed to this panel has a naive position that it was a shame that William and Harry did not reconcile. Has she never been betrayed, repeatedly, with no apology from the offending party. If she had been she wouldn’t be so quick to suggest that William had to reconcile with Harry for optics.
    William’s response to Harry’s treachery, and proactively attacking William’s future, revealed his strength of character. William is unwilling to entertain disloyalty and has laid a firm boundary for his brother, who up until recently, was able to demand a lot because boundaries were not enforced.

Depends if mummy did actually pay or contribute to the payout. £7.5-10 M is whats been quoted in UK newspapers for the case with Virginia Giuffre to be settled. I don't know which orifice the newspapers got the 7.5 to 12M settlement figure when the New York judge sealed the details of the case and the specific amount of the "settlement". The day before Charles and Buckingham Palace forced Andrew "settled" his case, Guifre's camp was at the point of having no case because they couldn't produce the original copy of the only "evidence" they have that shows Andrew with Guifre. The fact that Andrew wasn't even required to pay for Guiffre's legal fees says a lot about what the judge thinks about the merits of Guiffre's case.

It is reported that Princess Royal Anne only uses security when she is working representing the monarchy and the UK and Commonwealth Nations. Prince Charles may well smooth the road for Prince William and Catherine, making any number of decisions that will slim the royal family. The question is how will Prince Charles as king handle Meghan and Harry--they are private citizens are they not?

  • @jgibbs651
    @jgibbs651 ปีที่แล้ว +77

    William making it up with Harry? Never. Look at it from William's point of view: Harry has described him as "trapped", implied that William's role is irrelevant, trashed his wife, implied that only he, Harry, was really affected by their mother's death, and is generally behaving in a manner to undermine, if not destroy, the institution that is William's life. Frankly, the Queen trying to push reconciliation is extremely unhelpful and misguided. William knows Harry better than any other member of the family and if he's decided that the point of no return has been crossed that decision should be respected.
    In any case, doesn't William remind you of someone? In attitude, looks, and decisiveness he is Prince Philip all over again.

    William has an instinct for his role as no other royal has. Except the Queen. Her Majesty never took her position for granted, which is the crux of why she is so exceptional. She always saw herself as a servant of her subjects. To varying degrees, all the others have seen their royal status as an entitlement(except probably Anne & Zara). Worst offenders were Andrew & Sarah as well as now Harry & Meghan. William’s exceptional instincts continue to develop, probably influenced & guided by Catherine’s discreet wisdom. The future of the monarchy heading into the modern world is that it is an ongoing earned privilege, not an entitlement. Thank goodness we have at least one future king who intrinsically understands this. We are all far better off with this model of constitutional monarchy than no monarchy at all.

    I don’t think this is Prince William alone (in sidelining Prince Andrew from public events). I think there is a group which Diana, Fergie and others have referenced as “the firm” that really made this decision. The fact that Prince Harry and his wife were publicly booed did not go unnoticed. William is the public figure head who will get the credit for sidelining Andrew. And “the firm” prefers it that way (hidden in the background).
    William has more at stake here. Prince Charles will still be king but not as long as his mother or Prince William. Prince Andrew is an entitled, spoiled son of the Queen. At this point he has nothing to offer. Prince Edward and Sophia are a positive asset to the royal family. Prince Harry shot himself on the foot with Megexit. Fergie is history. If he doesn't want to have to contend with Andrew then, he will make sure he's out now. I like the fact that they have decided they all have to to earn and deserve their privileges, and think that will go over well with the public. It might put an end to badly behaved royals. Anne, Princess Royal, Sir Tim and the Wessexes will do well and have no baggage. And hopefully the Tindalls (who are so much fun) and eventually Lady Louise (who loves horses) and James!

    I was rereading Orwell’s, Animal House when I heard of the Cambridge move to Berkshire. The character, Napoleon, is a large Berkshire boar, “not much of a talker, but with a reputation for getting his own way”. Prince William and Catherine are the acceptable future of the monarchy and I look forward to the day when we can say “Long Live King William”.

    In these times we need a monarch that's going to be as stable as the Queen has been. Charles is too all over the place, while William is getting more and more serious and reliable. William must never forgive Harry until Harry apologizes publicly and privately, gets his wife under control, or preferably leave her. Harry has burned down major bridges which took a long time to build.

      I believe that Prince Charles will be an excellent king. But if for no other reason (though I believe there are others) than that not reconciling with Prince Harry and the Duchess goes against HM the Queen's statement that they remain well-loved, I think they not only are wrong but disrespectful to her. And please, everyone, don't just rely on what you've read in the nasty papers about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Among other things, they never complained about the Royal Family, but about living in the pressures of royal life, being hounded by the press, criticized at every turn. They spoke lovingly about their family, but the only one who has given them the kindness that they are due is the Queen, I don't know about Prince Charles, but I think that Prince William has been just awful, and if that's the kind of principles he has, I doubt he'll be a very good monarch.

Thankfully William has Catherine’s family to keep him grounded and he can see what a normal family life is all about.

Randy Andy was his moniker before he got married. Not without 'merit'. Clueless about the world. Narcissist from the get go. Terrible reputation of entitlement. Bully. He has been 'retired'. Can't accept it, but better rapidly. Slip into the background quietly and reserve some sort of self respect for his daughters, ex wife and himself. Take a hard look at Anne and Edward. Hard working. It has been said that Scotland Yard and the FBI knew he was innocent, btw. But Andrew has to accept how distressing all this is for Her Majesty.
