    Steve!! Nice review of these, that Havana looks quite enticing, might see if I can snoop around and find myself one (probably with no luck)

    Terrific video as always Steve. In Canada we don't really have much booze, if any, in our super markets. One chain has brought wine in to their stores (Superstore in Surrey, BC and on Vancouver Island in Parksville, BC) but it's very limited. We have dominance of a government liquor store and some private beer and wine stores. I wish we could get all these products more easily. Havana Cuban Rum, yes, we all have easily but sometimes good products are difficult to find. I often hit the private beer, wine and spirit stores for terrific products like Suze and Chartreuse both of which I love. Rums are very popular but on the whole we need to hit the liquor store for these products!! I love Tesco's!! :-)

      Ha, see were' the opposite. (London/Manchester excluded) we're lucky if we have a Spirits Store. Plenty of Wine shops, but spirits selection is poor. BUT, we have phenomenal Online stores for next day delivery. And also our supermarkets sell most of the big brands. So really easy to source 90% of the worlds brands!

    We actually do like a lot of woody notes and such... pretty big whiskey drinkers, so from this it sounds like the Havana Club might be worth a try for us. Thank you for this, as we were trying to decide on a nice Cuban rum to have. Cheers Steve!

    Nice! I like how you describe the different flavors. I'm not a big fan of the "oak" flavor. I'll try to avoid that when searching for new Rum. Also like the Old Fashioned mix at the end. I've been having a lot of Old Fashioneds lately. If you make them just right, they're tasty.

    • @StevetheBarmanUK
      @StevetheBarmanUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All Rum/Old Fashioneds are amazing. The trick is not to add too much sugar. When you start off you’d probably add 15ml or more. But when you get used to Neat Spirits, 15ml will destroy the cocktail. I literally do a Bar Spoon now at most, 2/3-5ml. But then when you play with different flavours and different bitters, they’re lovely.

    Glad to see Ron Cubay coming out strong, I'm realizing I got spoiled (or lucky :P) early on my journey when my brother brought this brand to my attention around 2007-2009 or sometime around there, I don't get why it is not more popular, though maybe because it is different as you say, not what people have come to expect? I don't think I've seen the brand get much attention at all outside your youtube channel tbh :P
    Over here it is also a relatively affordable rum brand (but can be hard to get a hold of due to lack of popularity, unfortunately)

    • @StevetheBarmanUK

      It's really down to brand size and the importer/distro. If the Brand doesn't have the cash to spend on marketing, then you'll never see it really, which is a shame. I really wrote it off years ago, becasue i hadn't heard of it. But now i really love it! Need to spend more time with the 10yo too!

    • @ramonruanomolina5076

      It is not more popular because it has no one to provide the necessary marketing.

    I would line the three bottles up the same way. Cubay, Santiago then HC. Cubay Anejo is a 38%ABV, vs the 40%ABV of HC7 & Santiago 8. It makes a difference IMO its smoother. Now, if you can find a bottle of it, Ron Caney Cenntenario is another top rum in Cuba that would squeeze in between the Cubay and Santiago.

    Basically, the Ron Cubay is an all-rounder! I've got the Cubay Anejo Suave but I wonder how it differs from the Anejo? Ever since I bought some Havana Club 3Y at a duty free on holiday a few years back, I've kinda steered clear of Havana because I just didn't like it in a Rum and coke.

      Suave is Sherry Cask Aged. Slightly younger than the Anejo. Lovely. One of my favourites

    I love the Havana in Cocktails, but it is a bit too expensive for me to put into Cocktails compared with other great Rums. And drinking it neat it is a bit too watery for me. Sadly we don’t get Ron Cubay in Germany

    Awesome video as always Steve, I have not tasted the other two but fully agree that the Havana is so close to the whiskey vibe, I am yet to taste a rum that has comes this close to holding the notes you would expect from a good whiskey.

    • @StevetheBarmanUK
      @StevetheBarmanUK  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s a LOT of Rums that give off Whiskey vibes. I mean let’s face it, any Rum that’s been aged for longer than 5 years is going to pick up those Whiskey vibes cos of the barrels. Very few use White oak or unused barrels. So the Whiskey notes are inherent in Rum. It’s just that some have more than others. If you big Whiskey vibes, check out most Barbados Rums, Pussers 15yo, Flor de Cana 18yo, Chairmans Reserve & Admiral Rodney…and loads more 👍

      Isn't the "Havana Club" in PR actually Bacardi?! Bacardi has the Havana Trademark for the US. Still confuses me as to what Havana/Bacardi Rums are sold where, but (although only 90% sure) that Havana Club you can get, will actually be from Bacardi. Not THE Bacardi. But Bacardi's original Recipe Havana Club. Confused?! 😂

      @@kenwood9382the Cuban Havana Club is owned by the Cuban government which makes me say no way to the rum. I live in the US so if Cuban rum was allowed to be sold in the US, I’d pass it and look for independent brands. Keep in mind that we have so many other great rums out there that Cuban rum isn’t a big deal.
