I am right there with you Jack..A well maintained high milage truck like Ole Red no matter what manufactuer should be expected to suffer a major breakdown every now and then no matter who drives it... A true trucker knows that.
Hello Jack I am enjoying your videos. I just started watching. I am retired. 65. Former detention officer for the state of Florida. I have never been a trucker. But I am learning and experiencing a lot about it through your videos. Thanks.
Amazing! This video was posted today and it's 10:42 p.m. central daylights saving time and 8464 views, 855 thumbs up amd 6 morons with thumbs down. Your still one of the best and entertaining trucking channels on YT.
Thank you again Professor for another nice ride. Old Red has done you well and has made you a nice living over the years. You care for your rig and it will produce for you. Although you would run well in and a 2019 Cascadia. Another money maker. Keep the shiny side up for another million.
i,m retired Jack after 49 years of long haul trucking Ireland to all Europe , When you have trucks like a farmer when you have livestock you gotta expect deadstock, Volvo,s here have volvo engine not cummins, but i cannot fault either, your Volvo is serving you great,,,, love your videos ,,,
Always nice riding alone with you Jack... I'm kind of a non-trucker & I think with how hard Old Red works and the amount of miles she's gone, she's been a good truck. I too pray it continues to run another Million miles too.
Hello Jack!!! I live in Richmond , nice hear you stopped by. Would be nice to meet you sometime, guess I missed out on this one. I pulled a Weiner Wagon for little while, so you bring back memories.
Worked at the Eastman there 17 years. Left in January and got my CDL's. Picked my 1st load solo right down from where you dropped off on riverport rd last Wednesday at Domtar paper. Grew up in Kingsport. Enjoy your videos Jack! That one is my favorite!!
Great bit of backing in off the road there jack , I drive a FH Volvo 460 horses here in England not once broken down 🤞🏻keep making the videos keep safe
Biggest shock I ever got doing insurance risk assessments was in learning how much old iron from the 80s and 90s is still out there. The fact is, few O/Os can afford to "buy new every two." Big fleets have a few advantages in getting discounts here and there. For O/Os, the key is good PM and perhaps a few more inspections. Keep on trucking! Great video. Thanks for posting.
Hey Jack👍🏽😎, Again as usual, I love Your shows❤️ I like how You are an honest trucker not braggin’ about what they just put in their truck or how-much power it cranks-out. Your videos are about a truckers actual experience behind the wheel for over 1M miles, and I’ve watched every video You’ve posted with Ol’ Red for at least 5 years or more now, and I like how You document the truck stops, restaurants along the way, Your customers and how they treat You as a trucker, just everything You say & show us neu-skool truckers about Your experience over the miles wether it’s in the shop which thankfully hasn’t been much in 1,300,000 miles You have on this truck. I’d give You a big hug for all of this, but I’ll just have to wait till Zi finally meet You in person at our local TA or somewhere along our awesome highways & truck stops. Thanks again Jack! ;-)
Your the best Jack you make the videos fun to watch, show us great places, and do wonderful editing to tie it all together, thanks Jack keep on truckin
Look forward to your videos, always interesting and informative. Nice job! Your maintenance/repair incidents for way over a MILLION MILES are very reasonable! PS: you keep her looking sharp for her age, (great paint job), and that reflects on your professionalism as a truck driver.
But you still my favorite Driver Bud,watch all your Vidios. Not many Gentlmen Truckers left.Me,I,m old school.Been in on 45 yrs and still at it.Be safe old friend.
Your just down the road for me and old Blountville Tennessee and yeah Kingsport is a big truck hub cuz of Eastman ,have a good one rolling through my part of the woods, and home of bms.there just isn't any truck stops here, you have to go to glades springs va, or Greenville th to a truck stop from the tri cities.you look like your on the 11w walmart.
I echo several of the previous comments. After 42 years I understand completely and feel you have been fortunate to have had few major problems, considering the miles driven.--Scorpio
Well said, Jack. I was one of those who expressed the opinion that Old Red was nickel and diming you. You gave a greatly focused perspective on this, relative to operating miles. I've watched another TubeYou channel where a driver had a Pete. She topped up all fluids at every stop and never had an issue. I cannot recall any breakdowns apart from a steer tire going out. Nothing that delayed her. There's another channel that points to Paccar quality being an asset over the cheapness of Freightliner. Another channel, a fellow doing heavy haul had a Mack that was pretty reliable but kept frustrating him with niggling issues, and parent Volvo's answer was, "well, you could buy a Volvo..." He just bought a Kenworth. There's a local guy (to me) with an old Freightliner Cascade that is draining his wallet. Lemons, oranges, and kumquats ... and the occasional edible apple.
I just want to watch and you not tell long ago I think I’ve said this before but you are so much fun and enjoyable to watch you you are one of my favorite channels to watch here on TH-cam I just happen to run across you one day by accident last night well actually was no accident but anyway I really really enjoy watching you keep up the good work that you’re doing out there and be safe aloha
I know you have an ISX you should look up Rawze for information on preventative maintenance and EGR tuneups and sensors that you should replace and why. I have found him very informative on those EGR ISX both pre-def and post def motors and thanks for the sandwich.
1.3 million and I can only recall it being towed to the shop once, Ol Red has been good to ya!!! Yeah, I dought you'll take Ol Red back to that last shop, they were extremely slow!!! Great Video, stay safe!!!
All heavy duty trucks break down, regardless of it being half ton or tractor puller, take care of your diesel pusher, be safe what ever weather conditions occur be aware always, and have a smile on your face, keep on trucking.
Very good back up Jack great skill my friend ,these owners need to have a wider gate for smi trucks to get in , any how you know how do it the write way , look at your Google map first and veiw the area , keep up the great job brother.
ALL vehicles, airplanes, boats and even the human body has breakdowns. Good regular maintenance just keeps the breakdowns from happening more often. Love the dramatic music while you backed up 😎🇨🇦
Old Red's got lots of life left in her yet Jack. Good to see you got unloaded for the weekend. Did you really need a dock though just lift them down and roll them to where they want them, didn't look heavy.
It seems that a lot of your followers are not professional truckers. The closest I have come to driving a truck is pulling a U-Haul behind a Chevy Astro. I think a lot of the problem is perspective. You mentioned the cost of the turbo being in the thousands of dollars. For those of us non truckers, those kind of prices can be mind blowing. That may be part of the cause that people think Old Red is in such a bad way. It helps to get things into perspective when we see you put three to four hundred dollars of fuel into your tanks. Everything is bigger with big trucks. I love your videos, especially when you go down freeways that I have driven
Cost of doing business. And some of your viewers that are not truckers and do not understand the rough miles a truck puts on and repairs are part of trucking.
You ever heard of 7 Hills Transport out of Cartersville Georgia my dad drives for them and he’s been there for 7 years been trucking for 16 years he drives a fright liner Cascadia
Three breakdowns in 1.3 million miles is an excellent record in my book and I 'm not a trucker, I'm also in the UK. Volvo are a well respected make but in Europe they fit their own engine range.
It is a good truck. Best of all: it is like the "nut behind the wheel"... Very good driver for all the miles and miles. Good team "Truck/Driver". Be safe Mr.
I'm a truck driver as well. I drive a 2013 Volvo. What non truck drivers don't realize is that we are doing 2000 to 3000 miles a week in our truck. Most passenger vehicle only do around 3000 miles every 3 to 5 months. That's a huge difference in miles, wear and tear and just simple regular routine mileage maintenance intervals of an over the road truck verses a normal driven passenger vehicle. I also had to get a turbo last year. Over the road trucks easily do 100,000 miles a year or more verses a regularly driven passenger vehicle which may do 100,000 miles in maybe 6 to 10 years. Keep On Truckin Jack and be careful of the 4 wheelers. :-)
I was talking with a terminal manager of a mayor fleet in the southeast and they are excited about a shipment of new Volvo's because the new engine transmission combination is giving them an increase of 1.5 MPG. Absolutely, repairs, downtime, lost jobs are part of the calculation but also calculate how much you would save on fuel if you got 1.5 more MPG. That about 40 gal over 1000 miles. When your turbo went out yes the part was expensive but the lost income was probably a lot more. You know your average monthly income so it is a simple calculation of the number of days down times the average income per day. Also something every trucker should consider, if your were to get a new truck it will need a lot of chrome because we all know chrome makes a truck go faster.
You forgot the steering box break down you had but I agree with you that Volvo is an awesome truck I drove a freightshaker up until I became disabled due to an accident. I drove for Werner enterprises keep the shiny side up Jack be safe
hi there jack I hav been a fan of yours for a while now just a quick question I drive a 89 international 9100 that has just cranked over 2.1 million miles on it just put in a clutch couple of weeks ago when is the last time you put one in ol red and would you consider that to be a major breakdown I do not.. I consider that to be routine maintence for the truck if I can find a picture of my truck somewhere I will send you a photo of it what do you think about that let me know what you think about that ??? great videos as always keep that rubber turning and keep ol. red shining happy ...
An excellent video!!! Do you still remember the name of the sandwich that you got in Subway ( Walmart)? It seemed delicious. See you soon Indiana!!! And thank you for dedicated video.👍🚛
I owned 6 petes over 26 plus years, every one broke down, worst was a Detroit diesel swallowed a valve and an away, had to rebuilt the top end, another Pete threw a fan through the radiator, other breakdowns minor. What made life a little better, I was my own mechanic, couldn't complain about shops, never used thm. Pull toy told you that.
3 breakdowns in 10 yrs. That's peanuts. Plus as ya mentioned turbos need to replaced after time. Think of all the pulling & braking & stress on the trans / engine as your semi goes up & down hills & highways & byways. Thank you got the Subway sandwich. No no tuna ...the ocean is too polluted. No white bread please. No ham or other processed meats ( nitrate = cancer ) Just give me whole wheat bun & vegs & a squirt from every dressing bottle. Good backing!!!
You're right, there's a big difference between a breakdown and maintenance. My question is, you said shortly after you got the truck, you took it to Freightliner, why did you take it there instead of a Volvo dealer?
What engine do you have on this truck with over over a million miles bud ? And trans mission, how much horse power on old red ? Has she had a overhaul yet ?
Hey my name is Dustin I just watched this and if you are still in. Kingsport well in Bristol Tenn at the drag strip in Bristol there is a truck show tomorrow
Old red aint dead, the ppl who think that need some maintenance themself i guess lol the mileage and big repairs you had is not that much at all, hell my 80 cc breaks down more often than i want hehe( and it is 3 years old ) Hope you have a nice weekend Jack.
If the truck is paid for and dependable there is always money in the kitty to make any kind of major repair Old Red will be going as long as you do Jack...God Bless you both..
Hey jack!!is it me or are Friday’s are the craziest day to be on your rig.I encounter the rudest 4 wheelers, attitudes amplified,me first attitudes!!This is the reason I slow down, cause I do not want a accident.
I would recommend Commerce GA for repairs. I took my truck there and told them to take their time and fix it right, I never broke down after that. Tell them everything usually about the truck and they will fix it.
I think one of the worst breakdowns I’ve seen you have was the issue with the head gasket and injectors. That was quite the headache it seemed. But other then that I would say when you had a cracked fuel tank. That seemed more of an inconvenience then a serious problem but Old Red is a great truck regardless. Keep up the great videos Jack. See ya out there on the big stretch.
A1 steak sauce is the best. A, being at the start of the alphabet, 1, being the first number. Kinda makes you wonder about V8. 😂😂😂😂. Be safe out there Jack!!!
I saw a video that shows Walmart experimenting with carbon fiber trailers that are 4000 pounds lighter than a regular trailer. Have you seen any of them on the road?

Thumbs up for the Tri-City area, and 26 south, which is nearby, a great scenic drive to Asheville NC.

One can only admire the patience and the attitude. Everybody can learn from it for sure.
Very good analysis of repairs and maintenance of big trucks. It costs money to make money. Ignore the ignorant comments.

Watching you back in that spot in Kingsport makes me think you are a true "Super Trucker" although you say you're not one. Love the videos!
Old Red has paid for herself one thousand times over, as always great videos Jack!
Nice ride and good job on spotting the trailer. Be safe!
Maintenance is a big part of owning any equipment. I learned that early in the Navy!!
Cool to see you doing the trucking Buisness a professional good deed!!
I always say trucking is a lifestyle
Look forward to your videos, always interesting and informative. Nice job! Your maintenance/repair incidents for way over a MILLION MILES are very reasonable! PS: you keep her looking sharp for her age, (great paint job), and that reflects on your professionalism as a truck driver.
Nice backing job jack
@Soldier On Yes, indeed. These professionals have some real skill!
GREAT VIDEO.I THINK YOU HAVE HAD VERY GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR VOLVO.PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE IS KEY.
I had faith in your trucking skills! Compared to other times you shared, backing in was a piece of cake.

I am not a truck driver yet, to me I agree that is not a lot of break downs in that many miles and years.
Love the quite sound and no vibration
Great job in backing!!
Hey Jack, I stayed at that Pilot truck stop in Corbin KY. There's a steak house across the parking lit there, they have real good food and a buffet.
Also you be safe out there. You have a great weekend

The V8 juice that dropped to the floor at 16:16 in the video reminds me of the "dented can" discount on packaged food.
I live just up the road from Greenville,Tn. Welcome Jack.

That drop off location in Kingsport is about 3 miles from where I live. I have passed that location a lot of times and never known what it was.
Three breakdowns in 1.3 million miles is an excellent record in my book and I 'm not a trucker, I'm also in the UK. Volvo are a well respected make but in Europe they fit their own engine range.

People mistakes maintenance with breakdowns.
Keep it going Jack.

See ya out there on the big stretch.
Good on ya Mate.
When are you coming to Nj or Pa Jack?
I use to drive a freightliner that seemed to brake down every 6-8 weeks. Was glad to get rid of that truck.
A1 steak sauce is the best. A, being at the start of the alphabet, 1, being the first number. Kinda makes you wonder about V8. 😂😂😂😂. Be safe out there Jack!!!
I enjoyed the Subway sandwich Jack great reverse old friend take it easy
Got the tee shirt ! Hope all is well, keep it between the lines.
What company did Old Red come from?
I'm following you Indiana Jack!!! I'm getting a Volvo, and the ride is better too...
I saw a video that shows Walmart experimenting with carbon fiber trailers that are 4000 pounds lighter than a regular trailer. Have you seen any of them on the road?
Jack... happy to be first to comment. Always enjoy your videos and your commentary is informative. I laugh a lot too.
Excellent maneuvering. No SWIFT on you!
Jack, I think the guy blocking traffic for you is a ghost. One minute your talking and no one is there and then, BAM, he is standing there. Spooky stuff... LOL
Jack do you double clutch or float your gears? I ask, because I've never heard you grind them.
Hi Jack, just wondering what that other trucker ask you while you were at that truck stop?...tc bud.
He was asking for which way that was out as I understood it.
cool , thanks ehsnils...tc
Jack,your getting old,Kingsport ,Tenn.Not Kingston ,Va.🤣
Have you ever replaced Old Red's seat?
I'd replace the seat and shocks.
