  • We got a call to help out a fellow driver who had just been T-Boned by a dump truck. The tractor was absolutely demolished but the load had to be delivered ASAP. Find out the details and exactly what happened.

    It's nice to know the truck driver is OK. Two days ago, my son in law (independent owner operator) parked his truck at a Pilot truck stop. We went and picked him up for dinner, laundry, shower, nap. No nap while here someone backed into his truck. Nuts!! Really careless, could not see a white truck with an RGN trailer attached (empty). A/C compressor shot, grill shot, bumper shot AND crankshaft broken (we think). Now the thing I like about the trucking community. He called a friend who met him in WV and drove the load to SC, will come back, load the poor beast on the RGN and carry it to TN. No cost but fuel. My daughter is teaching his family how to dispatch their trucks - no charge. Just a giving, caring community. The family is too busy cutting hay for their mechanic to keep up so my son in law will do some of that work for them while his truck is repaired. This is the real America! The "new land" my ancestors settled in in 1643! God bless you fellows (and ladies) that haul all our stuff!

    I used to work for a company that had injection molding machines. The pellets are just in a bag and then placed in a card board box for shipping. They are not sealed just the bag twisted at the top. They are not even tied because they dont want any debris falling inside the bag when a worker opens the bag. Any material inside the pellets will cause a multi million dollar machine to not work. With that said, we would refuse a shipment if the cardboard box was open or damaged. I know that sounds crazy but the boss would not risk damaging the machines for a few hundred dollars worth of pellets. Hope that cleared it up for you.

      I set up and ran a 2 color injection molding machine back in the '90s. The base plastic was polypropylene and the 2nd color was a thermoplastic elastomer like the boxes held. We used suction hoses to pull the material into a hopper on the molding machine. We had to be careful when setting up new boxes of material, because even a small piece of cardboard or dirt could get stuck in one of the precision nozzles on the mold machine and cause that nozzle to stop up. Easily several hours of downtime lost because of carelessness. I understand. It's not worth the risk.

    Just found your channel Jack and subscribed..I was an O/O back in the 80's pulling flatbed for a local company, then worked for a spell for one of those "Big" companies. Now after thirty-two years on the road I have retired from it. Worked as a yard jockey for a spell to keep me in shape as far as driving went. I'm happy to hear "Dave" is doing as good as can be expected. It's a shame about his truck and wagon, but they can be fixed or replaced, human life cannot. I hope the dump driver is ok also. You da man for helping another driver out, that doesn't happen much these days.
    Keep up the good work, keep the shinny side down and the rubber on the road. God bless and keep you safe!

      I once spent three days with a load I had to recover from a WalMart. The load had shifted to one side of the trailer. Actually it was leaning and had shifted. Considering from where it came from there were only three places where it could been shifted and two were just before you got to WalMart. It costs the company $350 to get unloaded, restacked and reloaded. I just hoped they took it out of the driver's pay who dropped it.

    All the delay and waiting has got to be frustrating. There couldn't have been much profit in this job. How plastic pellets can be damaged is beyond me. The containers didn't rupture so there was no contamination.

    • @SpiritBear12
      @SpiritBear12 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    one time i picked up 3 2500 lb totes of sugar, going to Calif. from Idaho. got to the El Cahon scales and was 3000 lbs over on the trailer. and it was at the correct bridge law, and i couldn't change it. had to wait till the following afternoon, @hr. before the scales closed. we had to do the same thing with 1 tote, Indiana Jack has to do with 2. i got scaled out, and was legal, but late for delivery, but they still took me. the other driver backed his trailer up to mine, and we used a pallet-jack to move the tote, across a steel plate between trailers, didn't have a forklift. that was one heavy tote for just 2 people to move.

I did get free 3hrs after they left the truck .. the big brass ask me "did they get the load" that told me a lot about who I drove for...told them take their truck and precious wrapping paper and stuff them some place ...I had 2 young'ns at home ( who have sense grown up ) that I wanted to be there for them growing up.

    By the way, when I travel I am always looking for your truck. I don’t drive a truck anymore. If I did I would constantly be looking for your truck. You are a very safe driver. You take care of your equipment.

      Once plastic pellets are spilled or broken open-they usually refuse the whole load. They are chemically treated so there are specific laws on how to dispose of them. They are 1500 dollars a box. Seem to be easy freight to haul-but are actually one of the worst because of the inferior packaging design. The boxes cannot stand force and crush easily, slide during hard brake, and weight about 2000 lbs each. I refuse to haul them anymore. As far as the transfer-this is quite common. I have even went and picked up loads from competitor trucking companies so as to get the freight delivered.

    I hope both drivers are ok. I was injured by a drunk driver while I was a driver for a major transportation company. The company forced me to retire even though I was found completely not -at-fault and it was deemed by DOT and the State Police as unavoidable on my Commercial Driving Record. So I hope this does hurt the big rig drivers record and all parties are ok.

    Good example of why its so important to try to avoid accidents at all costs, even if theyre not your fault. This guy who got tboned is out of work for several weeks now, has to find a new rig, and its probably going to be months before the insurance company pays up.

    My wife and i were delivering to a small warehouse on the edge of residential and business district in Cleveland, and decided to walk about 2 blocks to a little taco stand. There were quite a few people and you ordered from outside and it was getting dark out. This black gentleman asked what we was doing their since we was the only two white people in the crowd. I told him we was parked with our Semi a couple blocks away and he said we better hustle and get back in our truck and leave the neighborhood as its not good to be white walking around once it gets dark cause they have a lot of drive by shootings. He also said if we was not going to get unloaded tonight i better leave and come back in the morning, said don't sleep in the truck it would be bad for us! I couldn't leave because they unloaded all night just had to wait your turn, and we parked on the street we was the only truck. After we got back to truck and ate, i jumped out to kick tires before we went t sleep and a car of teenagers to early twenty year old's pulled up (about five of them). They was telling me i better get my white ass out of here and asking me what i had in my truck (cab), if i had anything in the trailer they could eat and or sale. I just told them to go fuck themselves if they was hungry i had some meat between my legs:)... i don't think i am tuff i am not an mma fighter i just don't have patience for that shit and my mouth has got me in a lot of shit over the 30+ years i have been driving! Thirty years ago when i started running Chicago i always carried a gun but not anymore, i guess i feel at this age who gives a rats ass kinda felt bad having the wife with me and getting mouthy i better quit when she's with guess! Thirty + years driving been in 4 accidents and ALL were from someone pulling out in front of me,,,,every fricken one

      Yes, but if every one had that in mind, then when you're up the creek by no fault of your own, no one will help you out either. What goes around, comes around.
      It's like the code of the sea, if some one is in distress with their boat, you go and help them regardless of your agenda. Sailors stick together like that and it's nice when truckers will do so too. It might have been a pain in the ass for Jack, but he did a good deed for some one who was in need. That other trucker seemed like a nice guy and I'm sure he appreciated what Jack did for him. If he's been a trucker that long he knows these things happen, they both do. Someday Jack might need help like that and it wouldn't be good if no one wanted to stick their neck out to help him.

    Those tires on the dump truck were shot. Zero tread. So they totaled the Volvo and trailer so the driver probably got a check for $19,000 if that and to replace both will cost $$150,000 or more. What a bad day.
