Going over interviews (like this one and one Necro did with Loudwire), reviewing the history of the band through a very well put together 30 minute video (much better than Lords of Chaos) as well as interviews from different books (not Lords of Chaos, fuck that book). Then ultimately buying the Out From the Dark Demo and the Live in Leipzig album to hear Pelle and Øystein myself. After all that and finally watching the movie (its shit) I can say I maybe a fan of Mayhem.

You can actually see Nercobutcher clearer still feels the effects of the deaths of "Dead and Euronymous" as he drifts in a small moments as he talks about it. He is right the producers should have reached out to the band members who were there. The only thing the movie kinda did was pay homage to both Dead & Euronymous. That's all it did!
Even though it wasn’t the best, I will say I enjoyed the movie for the fact that there’s a movie about mayhem and had some pretty cool scenes. I’d say it’s at least a 6
The problem with the movie is they took it too far with the “humor.” Yes there were immature and cringey aspects of the black metal scene as there are with any but, for the most part there was some really brutal and serious shit going on. They could have maintained some of the humor while also keeping the vibe more towards the middle of funny and serious. It would have gave the movie a really uneasy vibe to it and would have encapsulated the raw energy of that scene. It’s like if you tried to make punks out to be a bunch of confused kids by completely ignoring the drug-culture and politics within those scenes. It just comes off as the director being bullied by that group of people in the past and now coming for his revenge with a shitty dark comedy.
While I did enjoy the movie for that reason, I do feel that it focused way too much on the "lel edgy violent scene" than the influence the scene had on it's members. Like it didn't even bother going into how bands like Emperor or Darkthrone became inspired by Mayhem to become black metal. Plus in context, it pretty much tried to paint this image of Euronymous being someone way over his head, which while that part was true, it had been said that Euronymous got caught way too deep in the persona he built.

I'm glad Necro was able to be objective about the film. And I truly understand his feelings of it. It doesn't surprise me in the least that he didn't like it because it drug up all of those old memories and emotions.
Necro, brother, I know you won't see this so it's a spiritual message. I used to not be able stand you until I took the time to watch more interviews with you. How are two guys that weren't even in the band at the time gonna be able to answer anything correctly about the history of MAYHEM at that particular point in time
Arno Burtner I thought so too, until Esoteric came out. It's a pity they hardly play Ordo at all live. I saw them for the first time back in 2009 after Ordo came out and they only played 3 songs - Wall of water ,Illuminate Illiminate, And Anti. The rest of the show was all the songs we've heard a million times( De Mesyriis/ Deathcrush songs) even after seing them recently they didn't play any Esoteric because they were doing the De Mestyriis album in full. I want a Mayhem show playing the last three album tracks only.
he didn't care much about it, obviously. all those guys were a bunch of wankers during that time. now they're revisionists trying to dismiss/justify their actions of the time, to their public perception's advantage.
Mayhem presently, seem like a band that just wants to write and express themselves through musical form. I personally was never familiar with the stories and lore behind the original lineup and seeing the various modern video presentations about them, sparked my curiosity. Maybe in that regard, has given them some new and positive exposure. It’s difficult for me to judge what’s been sensationalized and what’s factual. Necrobutcher definitely is so authentic in every clip I’ve seen of him, with this one being the most impassioned, His words show strong reflection and emotion.
Attila's reaction was basically the same. He gave his rights to the producers to use his old bands music (Tormentor) but he didnt like the movie. He said it was full of lies and that he never drank a bottle of beer while being in Norway (you see them as drunks in the movie). According to the official cast list, he was in the movie, but having seen it too, he never takes centre stage like Mayhem or Faust of Emperor do. I have no idea exactly what scene he pops up in as he's just in the background.
@@LuxBellator92 Fenriz and a few others are there in the background of some scenes, mostly in the Helvete basement
Like Varg wanted to be in the movie ? Lol this movie is just straight hollywood garbage
The look on Teloch's face when necrobutcher says 'longtime revenge is the best. It matures like old cheese, very smelly and bad." Is priceless. Necro is King 👑
I love how honest and straight up he is about the movie. Especially how he said they should have called him first before the film
"Mayhem is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1984 in Oslo, Norway. They were one of the founders of the Norwegian black metal scene and their music has strongly influenced the black metal genre. Mayhem's early career was highly controversial, primarily due to their notorious live performances, the 1991 suicide of vocalist Per Yngve Ohlin ("Dead") and the 1993 murder of guitarist Øystein Aarseth ("Euronymous") by former member Varg Vikernes ("Count Grishnackh") of Burzum."
If your band doesnt start with Suicide and Murder, do you really have a black metal band ?! The OG's.
Marco Leblanc damn that was straight off their Wikipedia page!
@Nonya Bizness yes as a matter of fact I do! I was just stating that that was off the Wikipedia sight before some arrogant assclown tries shooting down that person's info! Thanks for asking though!

@@Rand_al_Thor372 yeah, like how did he get revenge, they made that guy's book into a movie and he's probably rich now

He's making a vague allusion to violence which is a key component of maintaining the image he has built.
@@andrewdeen1 And all the book did was print a photo that had been widely available to the public for years.
I don't get why he blames that guy. I mean it wasn't a great book or anything but anyone who wanted to see the photo could have done it without a copy of "Lords of Chaos."
This is the most chill I’ve ever seen Necro. He seems a bit more grounded and human here.
Look up his Amoeba Records "What's In My Bag" segment on youtube
maybe it's because i've only seen his amoeba video and his recent interviews about wanting to kill euronymous (which were surprisingly calm) but i ever got the impression he wasn't?
@@ballscrusher4 he had an interview on Headbangers Journey where he was drunk and came off as a total prick. I think that was one of the most known interviews of him so I think it gave the wrong impression. They had a second interview I think where he apologized.
Man Norwegians age well, look at this dudes really good looking for their age
Ghul is English
Necro looked a LOT older than 51 in this interview.
Because of this movie, I can say I may have become a Mayhem fan. Not because of the movie, but by doing my own research on the events of the band.

The details and the band-shirts and other shit like that are the only thing I really liked about this movie.
That movie made me cry, I can't imagine how Necro feels.
I’d say it’s at least a 6
If they lowered the cringe factor in some scenes and added more songs it would have been a lot better.

Was the interviewer specifically told not to look at the band or something? They feed off your fear dude 😂
Yo wassup ash it's tristan
Plus in context, it pretty much tried to paint this image of Euronymous being someone way over his head, which while that part was true, it had been said that Euronymous got caught way too deep in the persona he built.
cuando Mayhem vino a Perú (30 octubre 2008) Necrobutcher me firmó mi LP de "The dawn of the black hearts" y miró la cara de Dead y escribió sobre ella "RIP"

I'm glad Necro was able to be objective about the film. And I truly understand his feelings of it. It doesn't surprise me in the least that he didn't like it because it drug up all of those old memories and emotions.

They did not really say a single thing about the movie apart from "Yeah, the setting was ok, the rest not good". Would have loved to hear some details to what Necrobutcher didn't like. But maybe the issue is that he is not super eloquent when speaking English.
I love Mayhem and have loved them since the early 1990's. The music has always been incredibly good. I have also loved the movie, though it was very sad. I watched it four times, probably because I love that era of the Mayhem music so much. I think they did a very good job in their portrayals of the band members and the scenery and location. I still love the new and old Mayhem music.
I don't care at all about them suicide or murdered, church burning, whatsoever, the music that they created is iconic and they are the only true black metal pioneers! Love their music, music is the only thing that never forgotten

Ordo Ad Chao.. is their magnum opus

Would like Attila Csihar’s reaction. Didn’t his son play him?
Attila's reaction was basically the same. He gave his rights to the producers to use his old bands music (Tormentor) but he didnt like the movie. He said it was full of lies and that he never drank a bottle of beer while being in Norway (you see them as drunks in the movie).
