What I like about Japanese movies is that their sequels have interaction with the previous characters. In Ringu 2 the scene of the well is better understood and why Sadako did not attack her. Ring 2 was not that good but this scene is acceptable.

It's unfortunate Nakata didn't get to make the film he wanted to with The Ring Two, allegedly dreamwork execs kept forcing him to change certain scenes as well as muscling their way into other areas, apparently it was so bad that Nakata said he wouldn't want to film another film in the US ever again under the system.

NOT SURPRISING! That’s pure EVIDENCE Hollywood was WAY too over confident after their success of Ring 2002. What the point of inviting the franchise CREATOR only to barely give him any creative control? They got What was coming for them when Ring 2 flopped. The Ring franchise deserved so much better and o knew it felt weird that it flopped too soon. Now I know why and now I know why so many foreign execs dislike Hollywood.

This is the perfect example of networks/execs not listening to the creators of shows/franchises. Nick did this with SpongeBob too. The creator wanted it to end in 2004 so it wouldn’t jump the shark but they didn’t listen to him. All these companies are the same. Just money money money.

I gotta go with ringu 2 on this one for a couple of reasons. One it's actually more frightening to me . Two it feels more real which in sure because of the normal movement. Every time I do turn it on I just see the menu screen and no static. My wife said it worked once for her but only the girl's finger came through (I still have them) before the tv went back to normal. this is why i dislike the remake. mainly not even cuz it's less creepy but the fact that some things really make no sense. like why on earth would samara chase rachel in a hostile way when she showed a copy of a tape to someone else? like her curse was literally lifted so at that point samara should leave her alone and terrorize somebody else who is still cursed. no? meanwhile in the original it's logical that the person that sadako would still have a reason to attack is not reiko (the protagonist of the previous movie) but the new main character mai. but even with her, she doesn't actually harm her since mai have not seen the whole tape. i 100% bet you that this sceneario in the westernized version mai would have been killed for no reason, just to get more "edgy" points which the american rings loves to do a lot.
but now that we're talking about "edginess", another thing that confuses me is why does samara climb like a fckin monkey? sure lots of thing don't make sense in supernatural horror but to me it still comes off as if the directors were trying to be as scary as possible and yet failing at it cuz honestly nothing tops the way sadako's voice sounds muffled when she speaks, cuz it reminds you that the face you see isn't really her face but the face they were trying to reconstruct over her skull. i love creepy details like that, like that's peak horror! that's real cinema right there!

She wanted to see yoichi(the child on her back) she closed her eyes not to kill them or wore the mask the guy threw in the lake which is her facial copy, sadako hasn't experienced love on her childhood, yoichi's story is an opposite of sadakos childhood ,

They should have just gone with the Japanese Ring and not made any sequels. The story was complete as it was, with Reiko speeding towards her parents' house with the cursed video. Once you overexploit it, the concept falls apart.

there's no comparison one was made in 1999 and the other 2005 technology was behind in 99 than 2005 special effects were different but as far as how it was written i believe 99 was way better and more believable the ending way better

    I hate the 2005 version
The fact that the ghost didnt attacker her, just take a look at the child is MEANFUL for the lore, in the 2005 version look more a Final fight against a monster
The potray the ghost as a horrible evil monster defeated from the "heroine", instead of a tragic monster with a doomed and sad fate
And that "Im not your fucking mommy" in 'cool and strong american protagonist style' JUST RUIN THE VIBES, WHY CANT SHE JUST SHUT UP?!

Funny how it’s the same director but the remake feels so ”hollywood” and that’s why I prefer the original.
In the remake Samaras movements seem way too over the top for me to enjoy. The original is just enough realistic to give me the creeps. And I like that we never actually saw her face but the reconstruction

Sadako is better than Samara, because from the beginning she was kind and not selfish like Samara. You should remember that Ringu is scarier in that it is realistic, everyday, the colors are very bright, the feeling of reality is scary, making us feel like it will happen to us, while The Ring is sci-fi style. So, because it is not realistic, is less haunting. It should be noted that Sadako crawled slower than Samara, which is reasonable, her dress was very loose so it was likely heavy due to water, hindering her speed, which also shows how difficult it was for her to walk. climbing out of the well. As for Samara, she climbed so fast, so why couldn't she escape the well? I like Sadako better, she is clearly better than Samara in every aspect.

I don't think these movies are somehow related. It was standalone sequel to standalone remake. American Ring is much more simpler than the Ringu lore
