    We had a goldfish for no kidding, 17 years. His name was Charlie the Miracle Fish bc he survived a long power outage after a hurricane whereas the rest of his tank-mates did not. Took me a while to learn about fish-keeping and he also survived my numerous mistakes until he was just very old and an infection set in that we couldn’t treat. He was a common goldfish, originally a feeder. Charlie was a great fishy pal! We gave him a proper burial in the backyard. 🐠

    Goldfish can live very long time...matter of fact it's older than me. Started with my great grandparents and I'm 52 years old. Actually the house and pond is older than me. The outdoor pond is semi wrapped around the house more like a river pond and they have bred. 😃

    I have 6 fantails and one common goldfish in a 55 gallon, with 6 platys, 1 pleco, and 1 rosy red minnow. And about to introduce 3 mollys once they are done being quarantined to check for any diseases etc.
    I have approximately 800 gallons per hour of filtration. And I do weekly water changes and the fish look extremely happy.
    Water stays at around 75 degrees consistently.
    I like how Cory said that if you have to ask, then you probably shouldn’t break the rule. Over the years I’ve found things that work and don’t work. You can adapt and make it work for your fish.

    We have 5 common plain goldfish, in a rather small sized tank. Our neighbor had placed 6 of them in a bucket and just thought we'd enjoy them and let them pass away 😬😢 ah, NO! He must not have known that ANY animal brought into my home recieves loving appropriate care. At the time I didn't have a lot of $ so I went to PetSmart that day and bought a 10 gallon tank. They all survived, except 1 we lost after 1 and 3/4 years. We haven't introduced any new plants or fish. I'm so thankful I'm smart enough to know better and if I'd have had a few extra hundreds I'd have purchased a 75+ gallon tank for optimal living. As a result, I do water changes every 4-5 days. I check water parameters every week. We have 1 goldfish who had developed swim bladder for 2 months. I've been helping her the best I can and spent a lot of money (over 100+) to save her. Secondary condition developed in all of them (fin rot). We cleared up the fin rot with SeaChem (internal parasites just in case) and API fin & body cure. Unfortunately "Marble" who is now known as "Miracle Marble" will be gently put to sleep using clove oil at the end of this year 😢 I've researched and know exactly how to do this (large container, unable to jump out, fish tank water with air stone to circulate, warm water mixed (shake) with around 1/16th tsp of clove oil and slowly drip into her container and she will slowly go to sleep, like they do for anesthesia but she won't wake up. 😢 I know this is what is best as she's been upside down for 3 weeks and she still eats so she's a survivor. However she must be suffering to some capacity so we will let her go. 😢 We've had them now for over 2 years and so letting her go will be hard. My little girl loves them all so much. 💗 I don't have any questions just wanted to say thank you for teaching me most of what I know and how to do better. ❤️ I am upgrading their tank in February to 50 gallons with the 4 goldfish that will be remaining. I may add some soft live plants and decorations. I REALLY WISH I could find ornaments that are not sharp! I'll search high and low. Set up should take 1 full month and they will be in their new tank by March 2023. 🙌 May add 1 bottom feeder, one that the goldfish won't eat and one that can't suck on the goldfish; I'll learn much more between now and March. 📚👨‍🏫👩‍🏫👩‍💻

    Hi Cory. Just recently discovered your channel and am really enjoying it. It's nice to see someone willing to share their fish keeping knowledge without constantly pushing product from their store. Glad to know your goldfish of choice is the ranchu. That, along with lionheads are my favouties. I presently have two aquariums, one with very young lionheads and hi fin sharks and the other with gold gouramis. clown loaches and a spotted rahpael catfish but my real passion is koi. Winters here in southern Ontario, Canada can be severe so my koi are now housed in my 2000 US gallon indoor pond, along with a shortnose sturgeon and a sterlet sturgeon but will be moved outdoors to my 6000 US gal pond in the spring. Looking forward to more great videos.

    I have had 8 goldfish in a hobby aquaponics setup for 2 years. Shabunkin and Comet mixture of fish I think, and all about 2-3 in long. Tank is a 40 gallon with a sump filter utilizing biochar and a few Canna Lillies. Setup has run with mostly water additions and a few changes in Biochar each year. I could not agree more about the statements that keeping things stable is most important, and that it is not about tank size, but rather water quality. Thanks for all your Video's Cory!

      Whys that, because it focused on goldfish?

    • @gutsanglory1
      @gutsanglory1 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, not at all. Mainly because I've just been busy. I don't currently have have any GF, but I do like them. My tanks have Angels, Mollys, Larger Guppy's, Plecos, and alge eater. Nice peaceful community, planted tank.
      I do struggle with trying to keep the plants going....I have really hard water, with 7.5 - 7.8 Ph. 3" of Eco-complete in a 75G. Have a mix of swords, Wisteria, Anubia. They live, but don't flourish. Trying new ferts, we'll see how that go's. I have a 406 external, and a large sponge filter in the tank. I never see any Ammonia, Nitrite, and very little Nitrate. I think i may be keeping the tank too clean, as i do a 25% water change twice a week.
      Anyway, my tank is doing ok, and im sure I'll dial in the plant growth eventually. Wish I was able to buy from you, I'd give you my business if i could.
      I'll keep watching your vids, and learning, I appreciate your in depth knowledge and the way you share it.
      Take care, and have a great fish day!
      Cheers!

    • @AquariumCoop
      @AquariumCoop  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the response, I'd say it does sound like ferts should help. Most people don't have enough nitrogen in the water for their plants. Especially since Wisteria is a faster grower.

    All Comets are long bodied with long caudal fins Sarassa Comets are red and white in various combinations. Comets only goldfish strain developed at US Fisheries Commission near
    Washington, D.C. about 150 years ago. Shubunkins developed from Wakin ( Japanese common goldfish ) x Demekin around 1905 American Shubunkins,which I breed outside and love, were developed over here later.

    As far as 'stunting' growth... 28 years ago, my high school girlfriend brought home a green iguana from the mall pet store... remember those...? Anyway, the original owner brought him back to the store in a 10 gallon tank... he was 18" long... TERRIBLY KEPT/ABUSED...!!! He is now 33 years old and is my bestest buddy ever...! He comes running when I get home, he's happiest on my chest or shoulder...! He'll never get to full size,but he's over 5 feet long nowadays, over 10lbs... I knew nothing when she brought him home, but now I wouldn't trade him for anything...! I wish he had a better start to his life, luckily I got him at age 3, so he's been super spoiled by me...! Stunting anythings growth is bad and abusive, probably painful too, the main problem is the internal organs get too big for the body they're in...! They get squashed...! Thanks again for your greatness...!!!

    I’ve been able to keep Oranda and Runkin with mystery snails for nearly six months, haven’t lost snails, I’ve heard they shouldn’t be kept together. When first tried having fancy goldfish and snails in much smaller tank without success. Current tank is 187lt (50 gallons US). Snails have just laid eggs, so I’ll need to read up on how to care for them so their not eaten. Love watching Aquarium Co-Op learning so much 🤓😊

    Hi Cory, I was wondering if you have ever had to treat a fish with white on its eyes? My black moor's eyes are both completely white. I have been treating with api fungus treatment. Is that condition even fungus related or is it bacterial? I am super concerned for him. Any information is appreciated! This all started after my room mate decided he wanted to re decorate the whole aquarium and when doing so he replaced everything plus changed 100% of the water when I advised him you cant do that. This was about a week ago.

    My female blackmoor Harriet is 3 years old , she got huge despite my tank is not that big , I guess it’s cause I do frequent water changes . I should buy a bigger tank , I feel bad for her as she’s living really in a much smaller tank than it should be , when j bought her she was so tiny ,

    I came across this video, just moved to Korea and the fancies are cheap, but hard to figure out if they are genetically ok or not. Had a ranchu die on me with similar ranchu and an oranda,(that are doing fine) thank you so much gave me a lot of information, as in asia things are a little different in fish keeping(culture/language wise). the equipment and food brands are all different.

      I don't recommend anywhere with cheap shipping. Usually cheap shipping means cutting corners.

    egg yolks (BBS too)
    is a good idea ? Ty

    • @Dilampo99
      @Dilampo99 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hey, best place to go is to a specialist store that only sells fish related goods AKA the fish store. Make sure to know how large the tank has to be for fancies and get a big enough aquarium accordingly. Also, you can buy secondhand fish tanks on several websites for a good price.

      @@Dilampo99 thank you, of course I know the 2o gal. minimum per with some flexibility the larger you go from watching this channel ;)

    • @AquariumCoop
      @AquariumCoop  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      sounds like your powerhead is creating too much flow, fancy goldfish don't like too much flow.

    Is stunting bad for the fish? I have read that it isn't bad for them, and I've seen that stunted goldfish have lived for a while. I just want to make sure that I know what I'm doing before I spend money on a tank.
