Unfortunately Cory you do get the critical trolls. Theres always one! You are an asset to the fish keeping community. I take inspiration from your videos and can say I've learned alot from you. Ignore the haters. Just do you! You're awesome.
I got into Aquariums because of the crisp clean Aquascaping tanks, but now that I’ve achieved my goal of having a clean high tech CO2 tank; I realized it’s more important to have a healthy ecosystem for my fishes. My poor Betta was flaring a lot because of the constant high lighting all day long. Now I go low tech planted tank and enjoy watching my tank grow slow & healthy.
I have a 10 gallon that others say is overstocked. My set up is basic, 20 gallon hob filter, heater and 3 inches of fluval stratum gravel.I had issues when I made a water change once a week.I lost some beautiful fish. Now Its perfect.I used alot of what I learned here.A south american group of fish that are thriving. Filter change once a month. Water change 20% once a month. Keep my hands out unless removing plant leaves.Driftwood and bulletproof anubis. 4 corydoras lux 6 serpae tetras. 7 pygmy Cory's 1 bristlenose pleco Hikari food.
@@lynnalexandriawightman1936 I’d say if you can, move most of the corys to another tank, I don’t think 18 fish is ok for a 10 gal, maybe if 9 of that was ember tetras/shrimp but it isnt. But don’t listen to me, do your own research as I don’t have a 10 gal nor have a kept any of the fish you have, I’ve only kept bettas, amano shrimp, and cardinal tetras, as that is what was in my original tank, but I’m planning on getting rummynose tetras, a dwarf gourami, and some sort of bottom feeder, after my original tank had an ich outbreak.
Man Cory. You can't change your shirt without having to defend yourself. Keep doing good work and enjoying nature man. The longer I run tanks the more I realize that relaxing and waiting is normally the answer.
I know 48:28 how you feel about the dogs getting up and down from the couch without hurting themselves I have older dogs and have had many dogs that were older ❤
I had a planted dirted tank and taking care of it was more like a biology experiment than pet care. It's not just your pet fish, it's a whole ecosystem
I'm currently doing a test/learning experiment with my 29g dirted tank. I have snails, shrimp, otocinclus, hillstream loaches, plants, black worms, copepods, and lots of other things I'm sure. It's a learning experience, and I hope I can do more in the future.. Only deaths were my nerite snails I lost.. they weren't happy for some reason... Almost lost some fish from too large a water change recently, from temperature shock... I was able to warm em up and all of em luckily recovered.
Thanks for this Cory, I love learning from you. Lately I've been testing my 17 tanks non stop and I now know I've been over cleaning my tanks the nitrates are so low so now I actually have free time after work and my plants will benefit from leaving the water changes until they are required!
I learned this and many other things from Cory as well watching his videos :) he has been the most helpful in my fish keeping hobby 🌸Thank you Cory and team 🌸👍
Great topic. Detritus becoming inert is why people calling canisters “nitrate factories” is not true. We think alike with the BB and I see my substrate as the primary home for BB.
My top favorite channel. From teaching me the basic science without the "cheating" to teaching me about the importance each creature, plant, object, and gravel (or none) places in the small ecosystem of a tank. Now all my six tanks (in my one room apartment) are planted, crystal clear, just need to top them off or do a water change+filter maintenance for one or two of them once a week in rotation. Multiple species of fish, shrimp, snails, frogs in all tanks giving me babies. I have never touched a CO2 tank/system nor even considered one. You have provided me with a lifetime worth of knowledge. I love you, and I love technology.
Your advices on maintaining the nitrate levels to 20 and there abouts is working well. It helped get the tank back to a near balance, plants all looking fresh, BBA disappeared, off course SAE’s helped but the algae growth on the glass in control and in general the ecosystem is back to where it was. Thank you for your advices!!
I would be interested in a future video on general process of bringing fish to a local auction. I have been breeding and bringing fish to local stores, but I was wondering what differences there would be for a club sale event(like number of fish per bag, or do people normally even put fish in bags). thank you for all of your videos, they have helped a ton!
Hey guys! Regarding the colour blind question - I’ve been using the Tetra strips and app for about four months now and, as long as the lighting is consistent each time I take the ‘before’ and ‘after’ shots, I get pretty good results. My colour blindness usually allows me to distinguish shade and tone, if not actual colour, but using the app takes the doubt right out of the equation.
My nitrate test always shows off-the-charts nitrates... Regular water changes, etc. Old fish, they seem fine, but it drives me crazy looking at the numbers...
Regarding the thermal bags, you mentioned people might have a bunch who are return customers. What if there was something in place for the customers to bring back good and reuseable condition bags. If someone brought in 10 bags or something can get an exclusive sticker. Idk if it would logistically work out but at least the bags can be reused by you guys to reship to save money, the bags aren’t being wasted, and the customers who do buy a lot from you guys can get an incentive/little bonus as well.
We've thought about things like this in the past. It's kind of a nightmare. If they aren't clean, they get thrown away. In a pandemic, they could have germs etc. If they have pet hair, and the buyer is allergic. So many factors to take into account.
Green water seems to come easy for me in Sarasota, Florida... Either outside in a tub or right by a south facing window... I get a lot of southern sun here...!
Love your topic on DoorDash ! I absolutely agree with you Amazon is another trip at times if you’re not careful .thanks Cory put aside for all our young people grandma Willow
I agree about amazon. I must admit I am a habitual user of Amazon. I think the problem for me is, maybe half the time, Amazon is the only place with the selection or maybe in stock at all for an item. Half the time they may be the cheapest too. So 100% it's become a convenience thing for me.
Glad to see you doing the hard work to fix your bite pattern. Been there. Not a vanity thing, but a jaw muscle and alignment thing. You are an inspiration for my fish and plant hobby. I’ve rehabbed all my ceramic ponds 12 at 15-90 gallons. Just sponge only on a central linear pump and reduced my maintenance by 90%. Lots of healthy, happy fish and plants. Mahalo from Kauai, Hawaii. Been watching since the beginning of your channel. Anyone with questions is referred to your library. Have an advantage living in the tropics, but super helpful about keeping things simple. Plants, plants, plants. Lots of peace lilies, guppy grass, pathos and monstera.
You do a great job. I've been enjoying listening to your videos since getting back into the hobby from 12 years ago. Good to know my beliefs and practices are spot on to yours is great.
From what I learned from fishkeeping for almost 4 months. A used or dirty filter helps a newly built tank in cycling. Though most of the tanks I have doesn't use filters.
Hey Corey I was a welfare kid to .Can you Imagine a little kid trying to buy dog food withwelfare stamps .do not shop at a certain brand store it’s still available . , because she humiliated me in front of all the customers said you can’t buy dog food what are you thinking People like you shouldn’t have a dog if you can’t get food I was 11 grandma here.We both did a great job didn’t.t we. Corey YOU have so much compassion !grandma here.
@Cory: Canister filters use centrifugal pumps. Throttling them results in doing LESS work, drawing less current. The only issue is water heating up. Safe to throttle down to 25% as heat will still be carried into tank. Same thing with your shop vacuum, runs faster when you block the hose cause less work is being done. So throttling does no harm. Pre-retirement, I worked for a major pipeline company. We started centrifugal pumps against a closed valve to reduce current draw. MES
I do the same, I keep 2 filters on my tanks, 1 internal and one canister filter. The canister filters I only clean every 4-6 months, the internal ones I do once a month. Keeps my tanks just how I like them to look, algae on wood and stone for snails and plecos to graze but not on plants, whenever the algae starts to get too much is when I know to clean the canisters. I dont overly clean them either, just squeeze and swish the sponges etc in tank wate then stick them back although sometimes I clean the internal one from algae on the outside if its too much. I do 50% water change once per week.
i did the fluid extraction myself with channa auranti, went to the vet but they didn't know any more than i did. they only provide it for koi in belgium apparently. Wouldn't recommend unless it's a last hope kinda thing. ended up just fine and am breeding him at :)
My husband thinks I'm crazy for not liking to read on a kindle. I'll do it occasionally if there's a book I really really want to read that the library only had electronically. We also managed to get a used older one for about $5, so I don't feel too bad that it gets used about twice a year.
Considering the prolonged time spent, it may be that your lawnmower got Frankenstein-ed by some service department. They might have bodged together some rebuilt/used parts into a functioning machine with parts that were NOT actually yours. I've seen cases (not related to that company or that product) where the only thing original left was the actual serial number plate fitted onto the *thing* sent back as "fixed" to a customer and it was all legal and proper according to the warranty terms of service.
I have been looking into hydroponic gardens and incorporating it into my filter system would this be beneficial to my planted tank and fish or could it hurt them in anyway
Doordash also takes money from the restaurant. A certain level of tip is guaranteed to the driver, but if you tip them, your tip has to first replace that money, so to give your driver any tip you have to tip big. It is a really predatory business model.
Cory, with the bags, maybe you could offer some deal if people send their bags back to you? Certain % off, free shipping, etc. You could probably be safe in assuming the people that are building up stock of them are likely repeat customers and are likely to engage in this sort of deal. You can figure out some cleaning process to sanitize and reuse them on your end.
Sorry about sassy... For future maybe helpful I had same couch too high problem. I ended up getting love seat cheap resale shop then removed seat cushions...covered with blankets and throws. Loveseat dedicated for the dogs easy to jump up and down or ramp dogs love it.
The reason why there aren't digital nitrate tests is because nitrate ion sensitive electrodes are stupid expensive. I've looked at building my own systems at home using a microcontroller but I'm not shelling out a couple thousand dollars for that sensor. TSD and pH tests involve much cheaper sensors. I don't know what causes the price of the nitrate ones to be so expensive. It might be the low demand or it might be the technology. I know most of the cheap commercial TSD and PH sensors are not meant to be left in the water
Love watching your videos! I do also love watching your fish tank at the same time. Can you move back in front of the tank please? If you can't I understand. Also the last few videos the volume is a lot lower and I have to turn the volume all the way up and if anything else is going on I can't hear you and I want to hear what you have to say. :) Just thought you may want to know. Keep up the great work!
Everyone talks about what limits plant/algae growth in freshwater, but I've found that there's precious little about what limits bacterial growth. I'm trying to raise some snails that have gills (Australian Notopala sp.) and apparently they can filter feed. I've been trying to increase the bacterial count in the aquarium but all I can find is in regards to reef tanks. Is there any good information about stuff like this? Apparently they like bacteria that associate with external detritus (leaves falling into water etc.) rather than nitrifying bacteria around plants.
Hi Cory, following th cahennel from Europe, what are your views on nitates vs phosphates? Checking my water every week, and all is constant, only nitrate NO3 and phosphate PO4 change, read shorlty they also need a balance? very glad you let your nitrates rise to 100 ppm max I get agitated when they reach 50 all we fishkeepers are is terrified of killing our fish and plants, we need expereinced guys like you to reassure us 🙂 Love the work and effort you guys put into the chanel !!
Thanks Cory I love the filter explosion if you looked in my fx6 it would be dirty but it’s doing it’s job as I know their is enough bacteria in the tank but people in the uk think it’s all about the filter I had a guy asking if he could put a fx4 on a 80l planted tank the other day so a 20g in the us I said that’s madness it will be like a washing machine and the Facebook police jump on everyone get a bigger filter the bigger the better and all that I did explain to the guy and hopefully he made the right choice anyway keep up the grate work
Yeah, it's hard to fight through the mob of people. I find I have to use real world examples. Is a bigger trash can always better inside your house? Why not put a dumpster in your kitchen then?
With a little more time to think. I actually think the biggest disconnect is that people assume all business writes expenses are the same. For instance, if you work for a corporation, and you write off your hotel, travel and meals for work. It's free to the worker, but not the business. However because it's a "write off" workers assume it's free, when in fact it really works out to about a 37% discount at best if you're the business owner and making the expense. Or at worst, it's costing you the full 100%. So in this example a $1 soda, is free for the employee. Costs the business $1, and if it's a needed expense all is good. However if it's not needed, this $1 soda costs the business owner 60 cents in profit. So maybe something like a new computer for the employee, at 60 cents on the dollar is a worth while investment vs expensive steak dinners. Both are write offs and technically the same, but one may be good for business and 1 is typically bad for business.
I’ve got plant food for my plants and they still always look like they’re dying. Some I had for a while they just grow new leaves but then still keep dying and they’re not doing there job with like nitrate. Is it because I got the wrong plant food?
Shipping is great, Massachusetts everything I enjoy the stickers that come with purchase at same time I left a note for a different one other than Cardinal must of not got or was out of the question!!!
Considering how many chain stores sell juvenile fish and don't inform thier customers that fish will reach 14 to 24 inches could you do a video on reliable cost effective methods of upgrading tanks whether thru websites for second hand tanks or direct suppliers who don't have crazy stupid price points.
Can you explain one day about gh and kh and ph , I mostly focus on the nitrite and nitrate tests … my fish seem to be doing well but I’m not very good at understanding with what these other tests tell me ..
Hello, I have a question about the med trio blog article. It says to let the meds soak in water 7 days and to not feed during that time . Is this a misprint?
Not a misprint. If I understand correctly, the meds can affect your tank's cycle/beneficial bacteria, so you don't want to create an ammonia spike. If there are internal parasites, you want to be able to see them and vacuum them up. Also, the meds can cause the fish to have a decreased appetite.
Hey Cory I have a question for you. What would be a good alternative to blood worms? That is also worm like. The reason I'm asking is because I used them for the first time feeding my pea puffer and I had an allergic reaction to them.
We don't use Door Dash but I rarely eat out because I have a severely disabled teenager that makes it difficult to go anywhere. It is easier for me to cook then to transfer him and his wheelchair in and out of the car. I hate cooking but I hate all the lifting more.
Thanks for the comment. I was thinking about use cases where something like a doof dash brings value to the transaction. I could understand ordering from door dash in your situation when needed. I think it's kind of like buying from a sketchy website with a credit card. The protection the credit card offers is great, but most people use it as a loan which is the downside of the service.
My guppies do good for 3 or 4 months then they die my hardness is 180 kh 0 ph is 6.0 nitrite is 0.5 nitrate is 160 to 180 angelfish neon tetras corydora and plants doing good just can't keep guppy long than few months do you know what I'm doing wrong
I believe it depends on when you order. Like an order placed this morning, they probably won't ship till Monday as they don't want it to sit on Sunday depending on how far away you live.
The bacteria is your biological filtration. The filter with water flowing through is your mechanical filtration. You CAN just drop a sponge in, but you probably want some type of mechanical filter to collect the poop and stuff.
I’ve been struggling to find a good podcast about aquariums. and keeping fish. Corey, you are a super honest guy and I appreciate your take on many topics, but I wish you would keep 90% or more of these podcasts to fish and tips for fish keeping success. In most of your longer podcasts, you spend at least half the time talking about other things. I’m ok with some of your explanations of aquarium related business costs etc, but the 20 mins on how to save 10 cents on pop and a chicken sandwich and the prolonged Door dash rant was too much. Not a hater, just a suggestion. There isn’t really much else good to watch or listen to out there for hobbyists.
I just Started learning the Arduino Uno micro controller for DIY projects, an automated test kit robot could be the ultimate project! Including emailing results :D

Also the last few videos the volume is a lot lower and I have to turn the volume all the way up and if anything else is going on I can't hear you and I want to hear what you have to say. :) Just thought you may want to know. Keep up the great work!
I will see what I can do about the volume.
That's really great to know.
Checking my water every week, and all is constant, only nitrate NO3 and phosphate PO4 change, read shorlty they also need a balance?
very glad you let your nitrates rise to 100 ppm max I get agitated when they reach 50
all we fishkeepers are is terrified of killing our fish and plants, we need expereinced guys like you to reassure us 🙂
Love the work and effort you guys put into the chanel !!
Wonderful.
Thank you so much.
Have you done a video on common fish lifespans.
In order to buy the soda to acquire a business expense tax deduction, YOU MUST FIRST EARN THE DOLLAR...that is the part that is not understood.
@@AquariumCoop Thank you. I worked in my family biz long ago I admire your accomplishments.
Lol that canister filter was full of brown gold . Probably could of cycled 10 or 20 ten gallon tanks from that canister cleaning alone
I’ve got plant food for my plants and they still always look like they’re dying. Some I had for a while they just grow new leaves but then still keep dying and they’re not doing there job with like nitrate. Is it because I got the wrong plant food?
Thanks Cory!
Shipping is great, Massachusetts everything I enjoy the stickers that come with purchase at same time I left a note for a different one other than Cardinal must of not got or was out of the question!!!
Hi Cory, have you got any plans to ship products internationally? Here in Australia I cannot get a lot of the products you stock 😢
What are the purpose of blue lights on a fish tank
Your shipping was so fast!
What is that screen that Cory shows at 2:09 mark????
Some filters work better the dirty they get
Considering how many chain stores sell juvenile fish and don't inform thier customers that fish will reach 14 to 24 inches could you do a video on reliable cost effective methods of upgrading tanks whether thru websites for second hand tanks or direct suppliers who don't have crazy stupid price points.
This would help with the problem of people in humanely housing these fish or surrendering just for lack of funding for larger tank
they do that so the customer has to get a new tank every 2-3 yrs
Might I suggest a plenum/anoxic/undergravel filter project.
I second that!
How to comportable used aqua ion water
Can you explain one day about gh and kh and ph , I mostly focus on the nitrite and nitrate tests … my fish seem to be doing well but I’m not very good at understanding with what these other tests tell me ..
Jimmys the assistant to the regional manager except he does nothing
Try black worms and see if they like it.
Great stream
We don't use Door Dash but I rarely eat out because I have a severely disabled teenager that makes it difficult to go anywhere. It is easier for me to cook then to transfer him and his wheelchair in and out of the car. I hate cooking but I hate all the lifting more.
Thanks for the comment. I was thinking about use cases where something like a doof dash brings value to the transaction. I could understand ordering from door dash in your situation when needed. I think it's kind of like buying from a sketchy website with a credit card. The protection the credit card offers is great, but most people use it as a loan which is the downside of the service.
Lol a medium pizza lasting two or three meals for a person haha
Can u start aquashella in the UK please 🙏
Honestly id be a member if you guys shipped to canada
Just wanted to let you know, we now ship to Canada on our website with restrictions on electronics, foods, meds, and plants. www.aquariumcoop.com
When’s the last time you did a water change? Shoot probably get that ph up to around 7 for livebearers
Yep, I would wager the ph is too low and causing the problem, try keeping them above 7ph and see if things improve.
Just wondering I ordered some stuff from aqua Huna about how long does it take them to get things situated and sent out
I believe it depends on when you order. Like an order placed this morning, they probably won't ship till Monday as they don't want it to sit on Sunday depending on how far away you live.
Ok thanks my first time ordering anything like this so makes sense
Get the mac. You deserve it.
If bacteria grows on all services in the tank, why do we need air flowing through a sponge filter? Couldn't we just drop a sponge in?
The bacteria is your biological filtration. The filter with water flowing through is your mechanical filtration. You CAN just drop a sponge in, but you probably want some type of mechanical filter to collect the poop and stuff.
@@jessieworsham Ok, thank you, that makes sense. I thought the bacteria on the filter sponge needed the air or water flow.
Cory, we are never going to meet as I live in Thailand.
On your strips surely you could put a number that shows in the center of your colour blob.
JBL proscan is awesome for colour blindness
I just Started learning the Arduino Uno micro controller for DIY projects, an automated test kit robot could be the ultimate project! Including emailing results :D
That's something I'd like to get into some day, what can be done with ardrinos is amazing.
Dude just limit one liner per order then people will make even more orders to get more liners cause they can only get one at a time
I was thinking about another solution, maybe get a liner instead of a new sticker
The hanna testers are digital
awesome!
You have ignited a passion. 1.11am Australia.
Why doesn’t the co-op have a TikTok ??
In general, I'm not a fan of the fast format of Tiktok, youtube shorts etc.
👍😎 Cory, what’s your Jersey Mikes order? 🖖
I go with the turkey on white, I try and increase the meat and cheese so it's less bread to meat ratio. But it gets expensive.
👍😎 I go with the Club Sub for the exact same reason.
Videos over 30 -45 minutes is my limit
Hanna checkers.
That's true, I forgot about them during the live stream.
