    My whole life has been a journey of awakening, staring from when I was 5 years old and I had what I would describe as an expansion of consciousness, it was a pervasive shift that propelled me onto a life of searching for truth, which from that moment, was like a thorn in my side, I knew there was something going on underneath the façade of life which surrounded me. I'm in my early 60's now, not sure exactly how old I am, or who I am or what I am. It's been a long, mysterious, and often difficult path, but now life makes sense as it flows like a river, carrying me effortlessly from one thing to the next. Everything not real has slowly dropped away, sometimes painfully, leaving me floating in truth, not finally, but increasingly. Like being reborn, into a new way of life, learning how to live has to start all over again. There was very little help available here in the West back then. This kind of help and support is very important to help speed humanity along it's journey of spiritual evolution, we need to wake up as a species if we are to survive. Thank you for doing this.

    I really like that Angelo doesn't talk "slowly" with long silences when you ask a question. He doesn't "act spiritually"> Some teachers like Spiro and Eckart (though they probably are authentic) make me feel like they aren't being real. Is that slow silent presence a real part of waking up?

    • @Sam-nl7nz
      @Sam-nl7nz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      It just depends on the personality of the person. The personalities that "act spiritual" are more marketable and appealing to the masses, so they are the one's you are exposed to. There are all kinds of personalities who are enlightened: peaceful, terse, energetic,ect.
      Check out Frank yang on youtube, for example and you'll see a very different persona of what your'e used to with spiritual people, but is a person who is undoubtedly awake, and at a high level too, like angelo.
      Also, If you like angelo's layman personality approach to enlightenment, you can look at the channel sifting to the truth, where the teacher is also pretty normal acting.

      I have been around Rupert in non-teaching situations and he talks like that pretty much all the time. OK maybe not long silences but his natural speaking pace is slow. I have been frequently to his teacher who also often speaks a bit slowly and I think it’s authentic. In Rupert’s teacher’s case it’s almost like he is letting the answer come to him and that’s what he shares. Some answers come more quickly than others. Plus , there are some ideas it’s good to let sink in. But I agree that I don’t like to feel hypnotized. They don’t know that that’s what they’re doing sometimes.

      I think it has to do with being awakened or FULLY realized. I have seen quite a few masters who pause before they speak. when they receive a question, they don't process the question the same way a egocentric person would (as the master has dissolved there ego/mind). the master operated from the heart where-as most humans operate from the mind.

    I’ve been following Zubins C19 coverage and getting a lot for his reasoned nuanced take (pulled me back from the antithesis brink). This is something else. This is a personal growth journey I’ve been on since getting sober over 3 years ago. I’ve had a few psychedelic experiences that I could only describe as pure awareness and beyond self and definition. This conversation speaks my language. I had one very definite moment of clarity listening to it. Great great stuff, I really appreciate hearing you two go back and forth on this issue. Just settling down with Angelo’s book after a pretty rough day. There’s comfort in here. Thank you 🙏

    thoughts are simply arising to help us manage life. we are always emerging, and thoughts help us manage uncertainty. the conditioned mind is a wonderful friend to help us navigate the catastrophe of our birth and childhood. growing up means pausing and learning to bring kindness and curiosity to circumstances arising.

    If we don't own our space we are beholden to time. Talking about going down the rabbit hole. It's like lucid dreaming. As an empath and aspiring artist and writer, who was a singer and dancer, who ignored all this and worked in a cubicle for 13 years. I'm now going through these instances of complete awareness, happening for me, as I connect to it. The flow is now awake again.

    I DO tell people my internal thoughts. I'm autistic and was always amazed by neurotypical brains. I do tend to overshare though! :) I am hyper sensitive to sensory and the world around me, so its always fascinated me that others had to learn what I was born with.

    • @SimplyAlwaysAwake
      @SimplyAlwaysAwake 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In many ways advanced stages of realization are similar to what people who are "neurodivergant" describe and experience. The senses specifically become completely engulfing until they are all that's left. Interestingly there is nothing pushing against or trying to manage them so things just flow effortlessly and with magnificent radiant display :) By that time though the practioner is ready for it. This is the point where things get very fun and pretty sci-fi honestly. Up until that point a lot of shadow and emotion work is necessary. Thanks for your comment.

    I practice Zen Buddhism and the sutras were always so elusive. After reading this book and hearing now 2 straight episodes, the Heart sutra makes sense in every single line. You're right, our thoughts and emotions are just projections. We have the choice to let it come and pass. I could go on and quote Dogen about knowing the self and simultaneously forgetting the self, but without doing the work yourself these words will confuse. Thank you for exploring this and opening my life!

      Also you’re gonna love the episode we did on later stages of realization (beyond kensho). I think it’s the fifth.This is where the heart sutra ultimately points, boundless clarity of radiant empty phenomena self responsive, self releasing, and dependantly co-arising.

      One aspect I found beautiful and amazing was reading suttras and writings of the Zen Masters with limited understanding, but after Satori the illumination was very special. My opinion is that when short cuts are provided the practitioner may miss that aspect.

Regarding the differences in the thought worlds inhabited by different folks, if you aren't aware of Temple Grandin, you might find her of interest: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_Grandin She lacks internal auditory thought, and only thinks in images. Her autobiography is "Thinking in pictures" and provides insight into her interior experience, and how that has shaped her work in the realm of improving treatment of livestock. Really an extraordinary individual.

      It's just like Buddhism, more or less. Read about Buddhism. Like conceptionally, you already know for instance that we are connected to everything by physics, assuming you believe in science. And we know we are a collection of cells that are constantly dying and being replaced. So we basically know that there is no one thing we can point to say that is me because everything is connected and constantly changing, but we do this anyway because of culture and society.
      That's an illusion according to Buddhism and when you "wake up" you see that truth. You see that you are just a pattern evolving in the universe. You no longer identify with your thoughts or feelings. Likewise, you see they are a process etc. Your identity is a thought pattern, your beliefs are a thought pattern, etc.
      And so, your mind becomes more and more quiet as you progress because you stop identify with those thoughts as you train focusing on the present through meditation. Hence, you start to live more in the present. You become more at peace and feel happier because you see that life is effortless from a conscious perspective. It just happens, and you rarely have to think unless you are working on a hard problem. You return to your child-like state of wonder. Your mind is open and care free, no longer contracted on thoughts.
      At the end of the day it doesn't matter if you get it now, if you keep listening etc it slowly will make sense, as does most things. If you don't, all is well, too.

    I've always wondered about the "randomness" of thoughts and thoughts just appearing... this seems to be the case, but at the same time, our consciousness does have some influence? We can "choose" to follow a certain thought and that will generate more thoughts connected to the initial thought or we can choose to let it go. It even feels like we can somehow decide to think about a certain thing, which I guess doesn't make sense because that would mean we had a thought (decision) before having a thought... 😮🤔
    So how much control do we have really, if any?

    How do you know you won't “inquire” your way into an insane asylum? When I was a small child, I asked my step-mother: “if God made everything, where did God come from?”
    Her answer:
    “Don't think about that, or you’ll go crazy.”
    So of course, I had to think about it. But it was a dizzying experience like I was on the precipice of a vortex that I could fall into, and be lost forever in a disoriented, spinning aloneness.
    So, I would pull my self back from the abyss, back into “reality”.

      I did find that Dr. Z has spoken with Bernardo already so... He and Donald Hoffman try to take a more scientific approach to an understanding of the nature of reality that many have intuited throughout existence. The fundamental question as I see it is does inanimate matter (or energy patterns if you prefer) generate consciousness or does consciousness create the illusion of matter/spacetime? I think a much stronger argument can be made for the latter.

    This is so great. Clearest discussion of this topic I’ve heard. I wonder what he thinks of mantra meditation (Eg TM), even given his caveat about attachment to technique, teacher, or community. And when awakening becomes mainstream….then what, will we cool it on conspiracy theories? 🙏🏼(The relief of mental constipation:)?

      Yeah, he was a fully enlightened being and meditated in the desert and had a massive awakening. Ironically, most modern Christians have no recognition or awareness of his State of consciousness and are completely stuck in dogma that Jesus did not describe. He was telling everyone what's within them and imploring them to access it. His quotes are non-duality.
      Obviously all this stuff gets confused and distorted because it's impossible to conceptualize with the mind. It can only be realized oneself. There's almost endless literature on this stuff now and you'd think humanity would get on board by now!!

    Isn't Aphantasia just another thought? Just because you haven't visualized doesn't mean you can't. It's just a thought about a limiting belief that you can't do something and that's how you experience your conditioned reality.

    • @spacevspitch4028
      @spacevspitch4028 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yup, because of the subject/object nature of thought and identity. Any attempts to explain it are just more subject/object separation of thought. Awareness is like this infinite regress. Because if you try to be aware of the one who is aware or aware of awareness itself, then you are once again a subject _here_ framing an object _there_ that you are calling "awareness". But how do you know what awareness is? How can you look at awareness and say, " _That_ is awareness"?
