I was there. It’s hard to describe the atmosphere. The last round big bird immediately had momentum taking punk to 40% health almost immediately, the level 2 activation, just one hit from stopping punk in the finals once again. Punk gets a hit as soon as yipes saying he needs to get going clearly showing his bias to his friend. The momentum shift. The crowd could feel it. He basically got a 30 minute standing ovation. The sickest moment being present at my first EVO to see my favorite player finally win. Man those videos on my phone have been replayed over and over.
It’s ok to lose. Something only time and aging can teach you. As long as you get back up and dust yourself off and keep going! Awesome doc and congrats to Da God! This event was hella hype
Literally. Facts. Losing is APART of the experience of fighting games. All the top players lose matches. It happens. And you got people rage quitting, instead of watching the replays, going to practice, labbing characters, studying frame data 🙄 etc
I was in the arena this year for EVO and cried when Punk won. I remember watching live from home his grand finals match against Tokido and could not imagine what it'd be like to be in his place at that moment at such a young age. Seeing him win finally felt so gratifying, and the energy in the arena was incredible too. Hope to go to EVO next year again (and also hope they figure out how to do seating better in the arena)
Usually you don't include a legacy factor moving from game to game. Legacy is more of a sign or respect which does eliminate skill. Arslan Ash is definitely the greatest Tekken 7 player of all time. Knee is probably still considered to be the best Tekken player overall.@@jayfrancelf
Remember the season he won so many tournaments that he held most of the capcom points leaving people desperate to qualify for the cup ??? He’s definitely a legend in the game
@@Beekay9898 I mean I think it’s hyperbole, I don’t think it’s meant to be taken super literally. Idom made it once to Grand Finals and came in 2nd as a result along with his other accolades. Not sure if Idom is more accurate or not 🤷🏽♂️ lol
When I saw Punk getting smoked 3-0 during that grand finals bracket reset, I thought that was it, he was gonna choke it up again. But huge props to him to stay composed unlike the last time it happened.
I was so stoked to watch him win SF6 evo. I only recently became a fan of his in the last year or two, but I was rooting for him so hard. He definitely deserved it imo. It was so good to see him finally clutch the big win. I wish the guy nothing but success!
Watching this, as i struggle with being a Plat 3 Gief, trying to maneuver modern ken players and terrys, I come to realize that someone else's fight is much bigger than mine. Punk lost 6 years in a fucking row to finally become world champion. World-Champion. What a journey. Resilience. Mental toughness. Unwilling compromise. It is what it is. Everyone has their own battle. It's like Doomfist says in Overwatch --> "Lose the battle, Win the war"
I know he comes of as a gloater sometimes but you gotta appreciate the fact that he puts his money where his mouth is and he still respects his opponent’s win. Truly my champion.
I became a punk fan back in 2018 & a friend i had at the time said he wasn't a fan because Punk talked trash & couldn't back it up. Well, what up now Teddy, did he earn it?
YES FINALLY YOU MAKE A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT HIM. About due god damn time it's just right to finally make a documentary about the most dominant modern street fighter game of all time as the mc as opposed to just as a side character in a docu.
this video is absolute important for every pro player in gaming especially in fighting genre games . cause me myself is also a tae kwon do 2nd Dan's master in real life
Punks not a choker, he's just always been slightly below top 1-3 in that scene, but he's definitely one of the best players at any given time. His SFV Karin was amazing.
I root for Punk a lot and even then I have to admit he choked a couple of times in the grand finals, not so much in the top 8. Suddenly his usual whiff punishes dropped and sometimes I saw more reckless wake up DP. Not to mention the baffling pocket character switches that he sometimes did. Hope this EVO win is a start of him winning top events like EVO and Capcom Cup.
Im sorry, but Punk was far and away the best player for a good stretch and he dominated some tournaments so thoroughly... until the Grand Finals where he would either play much worse or fuck around and not be able to come back. Choker narratives are really lazy, but Punk was clearly not himself in a lot of GFs
bro what? you don’t even know what you’re talking about 😂 in sf5 when he lost to tokido, he was literally like 1k points ahead of everyone in accumulative points for capcup. and when he lost to idom, he literally destroyed idom in every other set besides the capcup set that season
Bro, what are you talking about? Making 1st to 3rd makes you top 3 specially consistent. Punk has always had a solid play style and has beaten every person he has fought, but few times had choked during grand finals when the pressure was too much. If you actually watch his matches, he starts to hesitate when he is winning, which clear signs of choking. I am a fan of his, and I have to admit that he does choke sometimes.
When Punk won evo, Cammy was pretty universally decided to be a mid tier character. It was crazy to see him beat out players using “meta” characters like Rashid.
Wow Mr.CFBad…I haven’t made any of those tournaments. I only started watching online replays on TH-cam in 2015. I want to make it to a big tournament and definitely EVO. I know the atmosphere was coconuts like Mike Tyson fights used to be. I’m really glad for Punk. I have to go back and see if I can catch the Angry Bird vs Ending W. match…& find some Mena footage.
Punk isnt a choker you play tokido and see what you can do also when you lose in the finals i wouldnt consider that choking you just lost to a player as good as you period
He was winning so many tournaments and taking all the top players out, that it just seemed like he would have won multiple Evo's in sfv. I think his cocky persona is what was holding him back, it just adds a bit more pressure on yourself. He finally told himself its okay to lose and he seemed a bit more relaxed. The other thing that bothered me in all his previous losses in big majors was that he wouldn't take time to rematch and that is something im so used to seeing top players do. They'll take their time, go back to character select screen, sup some water then play after at least 2-3 minutes. I think he needs add that in and see if that helps him as well. I think in the beginning people wanted to see him lose because he was dominating plus cocky attitude. But after seeing him get close and lose Evo people finally wanted him to win😂
I think it's difficult for most people to even understand how crazy it is to win EVO, you have to be BOTH insanely skilled at the game AND lucky to be able to go all the way. This year, the planets were finally aligned for Punk Da God.
every player that I rooted for, punk beat he kinda become my hated player but that was when I was in my teenage years. As years passed he grew on me and recognized how good he really is an uncrowned king
Glad he got his EVO win, imo he was the best SF player to have not won EVO, so it was really deserved. Although it does show how luck can play a role in how we see players. If Big Bird had anti-aired Punk's jump and ended up winning, is Punk still seen as a choker? Same thing happens in sports too, a penalty save or a field goal miss can have a huge impact on narratives. Thats life I guess.
Honestly all of his sets with big bird were super tight. Even in winners finals even though the scoreline was 3-0. I wouldn’t call it a choke if your opponent really matches up that well with you.
When it comes to fighting games, Street Fighter and Tekken have the best talent the FGC has to offer. He finally was able to get the dub. Great story.b
Lol y'all must didn't see Marisa's damage before the nerfs. 1 combo from her was almost a TOD combo by doing 85-90% damage. Who to thank for the nerfs to Marisa? Pick a Bird you think I'm talking about Edit: Punk vs Tokido is the modern day JWong vs Daigo. That's my hot opinion

Choking is when you lose to a player that you SHOULD beat. Tokido is not a player that anyone SHOULD beat.
Absolutely should have beaten him at that time. He was by far the best player in the world

I think Punk is more notable, something about that 2017 Evo run cemented him until 2024 as the runner up finalist specialist
