How a Broke, Unsponsored Underdog Became the First Fighting Game Millionaire

- The first Capcom Cup for Street Fighter 6 held an unbelievable prize: One Million Dollars to first place, higher than any fighting game tournament in history.
Everyone wanted it, and many seemed likely to take it all. But no one was paying attention to Uma.
Uma was an overlooked outsider who fought through one of the toughest regions in the world to make it to a million-dollar tournament with nothing but an inhuman will to be the best. With no money in his pocket, he woke up one day and decided to make Street Fighter his life.
Without a championship pedigree, a sponsor, or a cent to his name, Uma did what no one else could.
He dominated everyone - and he did it his way.

Just the fact that Uma not only won, but that he was invited to Kumite and he just went, 'Nah, I can't, I need to go to HoloFes' is the cherry on top of the story!
He would go and drop an aka Supa (red super chat) on an Asamio soon after

He represented Miofa on the world stage and win the whole tournament with the power of his kamioshi.
What is Miofa and kamioshi xD
@@xXRedErrorXx Vtuber stuff, to keep it simple his hoodie is a merch from a popular JP Vtuber, and a kamioshi is basically a way to say that this vtuber is the BIG one he is a fan of.
Fun fact, on the JP side of social media, once the JP community noticed that he was wearing that hoodie, at first everyone went "wait, is he wearing ..." to "Well, he is one of us (fan if the company that produce the vtuber) so now we HAVE to support him"
Oh, and Miofa is the name of the vtuber's fan.
@@nekogami87 so complicated stuff😅
@@Tuh_qh90 hell, he was in invited for Redbull Kumite and he declined cus it has the same date as Hololive fes, a yearly event for Hololive Idols, one of the idols being Mio, Uma's Oshi(favorite).

They wanted victory like they wanted a name, but he needed victory like he needed to breathe.

Uma won and one of the first things he did was give Mio an akasupa and made Cover reconsider putting the Parka back up for sale again, and then he dropped another akasupa promoting it too, Uma just ascended into Legends status right now.
This had sparked Juri in Mio's Hoodie fanart

UMA is insane, but can we also appreciate how Chris Wong was also a beast and a crazy good player
One thing I saw UMA technique that he intentional do drive reversal to bait the opponent punished and have them whiffed. This technique didn't much got any kind of attention on any competitive by far. Even Leshar and Chris Wong who are the most consistent players can also got caught by this. UMA learn this technique quite ahead of time. And he use it only necessary when the opponent is on low health for guarantee winning the set. So if you all thinking UMA won entire 1 million because of luck, that's definitely not. All those every match are very well crazy calculated by UMA himself.
Right, UMA seems very talented at that strategic play for a fighting game. Doesn't sound like a total scrub coming into the tournament like this video framed him as.
@@islandboy9381 I don't think the video makes him out to be a scrub. Just that he was a complete unknown
He also had a jacket of his kami oshi to support him
Bro even akasupa Mio for the win, absolute king.
Now that's a real player with patience
He has the power of God, Hololive & his Oshi Ookami Mio's jacket on his side.
He's UMA1M now.
It's amazing how less known players can rise up to be a champion. Excellent 🙂
As a Juri main that's attending my first Evo this year, this story is amazing
I remember when I watched that move at 12:55 , I went "wait, you can do that ?! That works ?!"
One can only begin to imagine what Uma did at that tournament. Going from having just 300 dollars to his name to having more money that countless people throughout the world will *ever see in their entire lifetime.*
I became so invested in the aftermath of this tournament and so happy that Uma won it all that I ended up falling into a depression.
To know that this unsponsored, poor, broke, scrub of a player is now the closest thing that the FGC has to a god, before or since… it drove me to the brink of insanity.
Luckily, I was able to pull myself back from the brink. All I will say is this.
Uma is no longer human. At Capcom Cup 10, we witnessed the death of a man…
*AND THE BIRTH OF A GOD.*

A bonafide Cinderella story. That 1 million USD is LIFE Changing Money. Buy a small building with 4 or 5 unites and collect rent and set for life.
Is 1 million USD enough to live off interest? Or is money of that scale just 'A lot of money' not 'Coast for the rest of your life money'
@@harpot678to live off of interest youd need around atleast 5 mil
@@harpot678 it'll get you a lot further in SEA at least.
The problem is that even in Taiwan, real estate especially in the big cities and desirable areas are ridiculous. 1 million after taxes and maybe he's affording a nice but modest place in Taipei with money to furnish it. Thankfully property tax is minimal in TW.
I watched this live and everyone in the chat and the crowd was team UMA because he was one of the few people that was relatively unknow and wasn't playing the busted character Luke.

Miofa
Amazingg !! Hope you guys gonna make a video about Verix, The GUILTY GEAR STRIVE ARCEVO TOUR 2023 WINNER
He has a good story and deserved win but i dont think he can win another tournament anymore since he lost his motivation. Menard on the other hand is the most well accomplished after didnt win Capcom cup he won the Team world championship, Red bull kumite and now Evo Japan. Such a goat player
the fact he did something extremely ill-advised and bet his livelihood on winning the highest prize pool in fighting game history, if I were him I'd quit while I was ahead too.
I mean, just look at how much he win. he also cancelled his invitation to another tournament after this because there is a vtuber concert that was held on the very day of the event so he take his W and go to the concert instead of playing another game

The poor of feet is stronger
He is officially the richest virgin in JP! Congrats!
I wonder how can you afford to play console games and have merch if you are that poor?
Probably living at parent’s home but with 300 in his bank, I doubt he is as poor as people think he is.
@anvoeske compared to the big names competing, he likely was
Cause it was overblown story. He was known if you knew street fighter too. The first narrative was that he was a "nobody" that nobody knew. Then the narrative was that he couldn't go to any events (which was the biggest lie considering he traveled to more premier events than a vast majority of the top players)
It's a little overblown, he had some savings and he had some money from online tournaments too tide him over
He's not poor, he just brought too little money go to the Capcom Cup.
He's an unsponsored player flying to multiple events in the capcom cup. I wouldn't call that broke.
In fact, UMA never said it was bankrupt
didn't you watch the part where it was clearly mentioned that he went to all these events because of his friends help gathering the funds?
it's like, 20 seconds into the video
Maybe people prefer or are more willing to believe this kind of thing
He also use prize money from previous events to fund his next event
Weakest hololive gamer Ookami Mio fan
his celebration tho
"That easy?" 🫲☺️🫱
