Fun facts: when Anne Hathaway auditioned, she walked in and went to sit in a chair, and fell off the chair. Everyone in the audition saw it and said "That's Mia." Also the scene she lit the guy's arm on fire, when she put it in the bucket it was supposed to go out but didn't, so the throwing water is also a "mistake." And the slip on the basketball court, was a real fall. Anne Hathaway started laughing and in character told her costar to continue the scene.

The dad is alive in the books but when they cast Julie Andrews for the grandma they asked the writer if they could kill off the dad so they could have Julie be more involved in the movie and the writer said “Kill him off”
I mean.. if I had the option for more Julie Andrews, I'd have said the same thing.

It hasnt been just since 2000 it just got easier to eliminate it during that time. I’ve got excessively curly hair and I’ve been hassled my whole life. To this day I just restrain it as much as possible to stop people from making comments.
Yeah, and growing up then it was very annoying, as a natural curly, that is.
Yeah you have a choice straighten or spend hundreds and hours working with the curl to get it right.
Michael is actually very compatible with Mia in the books 🥺 One big thing they left out of the movie is that everyone is IM’ing each other and communicating is a big part of Mia’s relationship with Michael and a lot of her friends. I get that just a bunch of teenagers chatting doesn’t translate to movie well but the integrity of the characters really suffered from it.
So the original was as cruel to her looks?
@@Cassxowary iirc, Mia isn't exactly portrayed like that in the books, just an awkward teen with her own insecurities as most teens did. The "diaries" are written from her perspective, so you get to how self-deprecating she is, but that comes with her sarcastic wit in the books 😅
The books were so much better than the movie 😢

Michael is played by Robert Schwartzman. His brother is Jason Scwartzman, his mom is Talia Shire (Adrianne in Rocky), his uncle is Francis Ford Coppola, and his cousin is Nicolas Cage (whose actual last name is Coppola). That was some of his real band 'Rooney' in the movie. I loved Rooney when I was in high school. I've seen them like 3 times and they are great. It's like Cali pop music I'd say.
Yo that's crazy, I knew Cage was a Coppola but I never knew Jason and Robert were, didn't know they were brothers either, that's cool 😁
Laughing at their comments about the love interest. I thought he was cute. And yeah, I think his band had a hit song one time. I have to YT it now. I remember it being a catchy song.
Edit: 2 songs in fact. Rooney were so underrated.
They cut some crucial and sweet scenes between Mia and Michael, there are like 2 deleted scenes that show the chemistry of Mia and Michael. Where he was there for Mia and knew exactly what to say to her to make her smile. Which was very close to the book version of Mia and Michael. I was really confused as to why they didn’t show more of Mia and Michael’s connection. It is like we get little crumbs of Michael having a crush on Mia while Mia has a crush on Josh. When did Mia start having feelings for Michael or did realize she liked Michael the whole time??
Ughh I wished that they at least used the deleted scene of Mia and Michael moment on the rooftop court. It was sweet and super natural scene. At least it would show Mia’s perspective of Michael instead of the other way around. Mia definitely noticed Michael too and his actions/sweet gestures towards her. 🥰
Zuff really just called The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, the original Cinderella Julie Andrews “Jules”😂😂 he calls her Jules 😂 this was my favorite movie in high school lol, thanks guys

Please, please watch the second one. The plot is significantly more interesting and Julie Andrews sings again for the first time after her throat surgery. Also Chris Pine plays the male lead and the chemistry is off the charts.

Love the sound of music and Mary Poppins brilliant watch them all the time fond memories watching them when I was younger aswell 😊 I also loved capt von trapp Christopher Plummer played his role so well😊 Julie Andrew is brilliant loved these films aswell princess diaries and princess diaries 2 is great to watch 😊

I used to watch this movie all the time when I was a little kid on VHS. I was obsessed and I had the biggest crush on Michael lmao. Lily's radio show was super important to me. I didn't know I would be a journalist girlie at the time.

The writer of the book was inspired to write it because her mom went on a date with her teacher. That was the first thing she wrote about it, a girl whose mom is dating a teacher.

I was a teenager when this came out and this is one of my all time favorite movies, coz it's just light and fun. Also, maybe coz I was "Mia" when she was unknown-awkward, shy, terrible in front of a crowd and have very little fiends in highschool.
Some Fun Facts:
1. Anne was chosen for the role without doing or saying anything. She just fell off a chair.😂
2. Anne, mentioned in an interview that Julie is coincidentally , a blood relative.😲
3. The guys playing as her father IS her real father.
4. Oh yeah, another interesting things that I realized about Princess Diaries and Anne Hathaway:
The plot resembles a real life American teenager who discovered she's a daughter of Prince Albert of Monaco when she was about 14.
Prince Albert was the son of Princess Grace ( a.k.a. Grace Kelly in Hollywood). I also realized that Princess Grace and Anne Hathaway share the same birthday November 12. Only, Princess Grace died in 1982, two months before Anne was born.😉

I was obsessed with the books in middle school(read them at least 20 times, all 15 of them) and I can honestly say the film does it justice. obviously they can't include everything from the books but the crew does an amazing job.

The movie Bryce was talking about in the intro was called "Cow Belles" and yes Aly was in it along with her sister A.J.
The Disney movie Bryce was referring to in the beginning was "Cow Belles" with Aly and AJ. It came out in 2006. Disney released a lot of good movies that year so Cow Belles kinda got overshadowed honestly😅. High School Musical and Cheetah Girls 2 came out the same year

The way she absolutely rips into Mia for changing her look, and just keeps making her feel bad about the whole princess thing, and just generally being rude and judgmental to everyone (again, see the name of her cable show)... that's the stuff I wish she'd been called out on
It’s a movie about materialism and superficiality. It’s about a preteen girl’s fantasy about being rich, famous and shallow without any of the actual responsibilities of being a real princess in line to be a queen. Instead of trying to solve problems in her country, she’s being taught superficial crap like how to wave, hook up with arm candy and wear fancy outfits. Aren’t there actual responsibilities that a future queen might have in this fictional country? I know it’s a chick flick, but don’t chicks deserve better? I’m a guy, but there are plenty of chick flicks I enjoy, most of them in the 80s and 90s. This is the equivalent of a bad Transformers sequel made for guys around the same age. I can see young girls growing up and going from this to Twilight and then to Mamma Mia and the Sex and the City movies. Oh boy.
Her radio show name is ironic considering she herself rarely just shuts up and listens lol And I disagree on the stance that she apologised, because she never did. She just explained her actions, which is good, but not an actual apology.
i'm sorry, the 2005 pride and prejudice movie is FANTASTIC and absolutely gorgeous. ya'll simply may not be used to a movie made up of almost entirely subtle performances and quiet moments lol
