Unfortunately the surgery caused her to no longer have hardly any range vocally at all anymore. But she sings a little bit, more like talking to a rhythm, in the sequel. My little kid self going crazy and looking crazy in my room, when I didn’t know English lol only Spanish.
another thing that makes the beach scene terrible is that Mia is 15,a minor. so you have the paparazzi taking pictures of an underage girl and then posting it on newspapers
Crazy thing is after this movie came out, this plot happened to a lady here In the USA. Adopted Girl born and raised in Virginia got a call from Sierra leonne, and they said she’s royalty/considered a princesses there. (She went to visit but it was during the war (bl00d diamonds) so she had to decide will she continue her regular life in usa or go be royalty in a war torn country. They are making a movie about her life, the actress who plays zendaya sister on Euphoria will play her.
You have gotten some details wrong. It wasn't that members were kidnapped. One of her uncles is the current chief of one of the tribes in Sierra Leonne, and his father before him etc. I don't remember if she has explained the whole details. But her mother was White American, and she was adopted at the age of one to a white family. It wasn't until she was in her late 20s she looked into her biological family and an investigator found an uncle on her fathers side who explained everything to her. Its quiet a beautiful story.
@@Justafox305 You might be mixing her with Sara Bonetta, who was Queen VIctoria's ward. She was/is believed to have been a titled member of a village who was enslaved and "gifted" to Queen Victoria. She was treated as a normal ward by Queen Victoria who paid for her care and schooling.
I live for Princess Diaries reactions and this one didn't disappoint! The Joe appreciation *chef's kiss* He has the badass quote in film history in the sequel, I said what I said. So excited for the sequel, I think it's better than the first one. Also, another young Chris Pine (with Lindsay Lohan) cute teen romcom that I used to love too is Just My Luck, you might have fun with that one!
Oooh yay! I can't wait! As a glasses-wearing dorky girl, it's always funny that, in order to be a "proper princess", you have to break your glasses 😂🤓. Always loved this movie!
Yeah, I find it really amusing that my own "blossoming" went the opposite direction from the typical 2000s makeover, in which I went from trying to straighten my hair all the time and not wearing glasses to wearing my hair curly and embracing glasses. XD
Also, I don't know if anyone already mentioned it, but at the fancy dinner when Mia sets that man's sleeve on fire, it was supposed to go out when she puts it inside the ice bucket, but since it wouldn't go out, Anne Hathaway actually threw water on his arm and it was also left in the movie xD
So stoked you’re all watching this. I saw this in the theater when it came out and one of my friends even wrote in my yearbook about Jeremiah and his red hair because she had a crush. So iconic - and the sequel is great too. Super cheesy but worth a watch.. Glad that’s next up! 😊
I can think of a few parents off the top of my head who used the "I did it to protect you" card when it comes to an earth shattering secret the kid learns about themselves and their family and quite frankly, it's not a good card. Do these parents not realize this secret they are trying to keep might pop up sooner than expected? Mia just went from normal every day 15 year old high school student to crown princess in 5 seconds and now she has to process this mind blowing revelation that she is going to be a queen someday on top of school. Talk about pressure!
Fun fact: The director of this film is the director of Pretty Woman, in that film there is a famous scene where Julia Roberts sends a snail flying and a waiter catches it, it's the same actor with the white hair who nods when Mia asks if the accident is her fault and he's also in the 2nd princess diaries when Mia has another slip up.
The scene where the prime minister and his wife actually take part in what happened to Mia shows that they are truly loyal to the crown matter who it is. They literally just met her and are throwing themselves out there to protect her from embarrassment on her own. You can also see that the prime minister cares about her as he takes time to explain things to her. If I were a ruler of a country, I would want both of them as part of my council.
@@a.g.demada5263 yes, and in the second movie we see that he goes even further. He stands up for Mia while in Parliament without her even being there. Then at her wedding, he guides her in what she needs to do. That man is truly loyal to the crown.
Fun fact you all didn't know... Joe plays the Hotel Manager in Pretty Woman, and the waiter who catches the food and says, "Slippery little suckers," also catches a snail and says the same exact line in Pretty Woman.
Aww Nobu. Sorry you aren't feeling well but I hope you get well soon! I love that you guys did this movie. It's such a fun time and really well made. I remember I used to watch this over and over as a kid. I'm glad it still holds up today. Joe still has my heart. He is such a wonderful example of a healthy/positive male figure in media. He's so quick to take Mia under his wing despite her being a total stranger simply because he saw that she needed that support and care. Him and the queen were one of my first childhood ships. I loved them together. There's a gentle sweetness between them despite them being so professional around each other most of the time. The mutual respect between them is wonderful. Charlotte was also wonder. I almost forgot how hilarious the neighbour was too. So glad you're doing the sequel.
In the book Mia didn’t want to tell Lilly that she was a princess because of her judgemental superiority attitude towards wealthy people especially royals. They were not on speaking terms when Paolo exposed Mia’s identity to the media. He did it for bragging rights. During the time they were not speaking to each other, Mia spent time with Tina Hakim Baba, the daughter of a wealthy Saudi oil sheikh. She was a social outcast because like Mia, she had a body guard and her father’s high status. She would become one of Mia’s closest friends.
A lot of people don't realize that the kid who played Michael - his mom was Adrienne in the rocky movies. The guy with the red hair - was in the movie remake of footloose and a policeman in Chicago pd. Mia's mom is the rich lady in the movie my life in ruins. Then of course lily is Randy's sister in the scream franchise
@@SOcal92 He is also the younger brother of Jason Schwartzman who is a member of Phantom Planet, their song California is used for The O.C and Rooney was a featured band in one of the episodes. They are also Coppola so lots of talent in that family lmao.

Chris Pine? You guys also HEARD him as the voice of Jack Frost in 'Rise of the Guardians'. I love this movie, only I could just wish it didn't portray Mia's curly hair as like a negative thing that had to be "fixed" in her makeover.
Sorry if it has already been mentioned, but the mean girl Lana is Mandy Moore who was a young pop singer at the time. She would continue acting and later became the voice of Rapunzel in Disney's Tangled and the star of the drama series This Is Us. She has come a long way! EDIT: Okay, they did briefly mention Mandy.
Othe Fun Facts: 1. Anne was chosen for the role without doing or saying anything. She just fell off a chair.😂 2. Anne, mentioned in an interview that Julie is coincidentally , a blood relative.😲 3. Oh yeah, here are another interesting things about Princess Diaries and Anne Hathaway: The plot resembles a real life American teenager who discovered she's a daughter of Prince Albert of Monaco when she was about 14. Prince Albert was the son of Princess Grace ( a.k.a. Grace Kelly in Hollywood). I also realized that Princess Grace and Anne Hathaway share the same birthday November 12. Only, Princess Grace died in 1982, two months before Anne was born.😉 Some geeky stuff I know, but it's fun to know stuff😊
23:30 Goldfish die so easily in bowls because they aren't supposed to be kept in bowls. They're a pond fish similar to koi that can get nearly 2 feet long and live over 30 years when kept in a 20+ gallon tank. They breed easily, so the young goldfish make good feeders for turtles and larger fish, which is why they're so cheap in pet stores. Their low price tag leads people to believe that they don't require a lot of space and are short lived.
This film is hands down my favorite live-action Disney film and also Anne Hathaway film in general, thanks for the reaction White Noise. Also hope Nobu gets better soon.🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️🖤💙
Truly iconic, probably first say it on Disney Channel actually. Also start time I questioned the "straight hair, no glasses" makeover trope. Her frizzy hair was cute.
I looked just like frizzy hair Mia in school. All she needed was a some moisturizer/defrizzer and a good curl routine. And her glasses are cute. If she wanted something less dorky just find a different frame that fits her face better. But seriously I cringe at the reveal every time now. It doesn’t even actually look that great tbh. Maybe it’s the early 2000 style and makeup that makes it look very dated, but it also seems a bit over the top.
I still have the DVD'S of both this and the sequel, because for the first, Julie and Anne commentate while having tea, and for the sequel it's Dame Julie Andrews again with the late Gary Marshall, who literally gives people time to pause the commentary and get snacks. Marshall also sets up deleted scenes, explaining why they were included and then cut once they're shown-just a cool, classy thing for these films.
*repeatedly moves the divider up and down* "Oh, I'd be doing the same thing." "Yeah, at least she's relatable." And then there's people like me, the driver, "No matter how many times you push it, it will go up and down the same way." lol
When I first found this movie, a couple of years after it came out, I wanted to watch it because I was a fan of Julie Andrews. This movie helped me to become a fan of Anne Hathaway. My favorite character in this movie is Joe. Anne Hathaway basically became a Disney Princess so early in her career.
The actor who plays Joe plays a similar role in Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts. Not sure if you guys have reacted to that but if you haven’t, you should!! I love him!!
In case no one has commented this yet: In the books, the father is alive, but infertile due to cancer treatment. When it was clear he wouldn't be able to produce an heir, he had to have Mia tracked down, and then he was her teacher for all the princess stuff, trying to satisfy his mother, Mia's strict and proper "gramere" (French for grandma). When the movie adaption was underway, and the casting team got Julie Andrews, they contacted Meg Cabot, the author of the series, to ask if they could have the dad die so that the grandmother would be the princess teacher. This would give her a bigger part, and make the character more likeable. When they asked Meg if that was okay, she asked who they got to play the grandmother, the team told her it was Julie Andrews, and Meg replied, "Kill the dad."
We stann for JOE! When I grew up the kids in my neighbourhood did have scooters! It was a fun way to get around the neighbourhood and movies and shows like this probably made it more popular. I also remember seeing an interview with Sandra Oh and her most requested line to deliver in person by fans was "mmhm mmmhm the queen is coming." Great reaction guys!
This is just iconic, glad you guys enjoyed it! And Stella being like "you didn't wantch Into The Woods where he (Chris Pine) was the prince? WHAT??" was far too relatable, I always hoped you guys would watch that version, it got a lot of mixed reviews but I personally loved it and the cast is amazing (Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, etc, hello?), maybe you should consider watching it at some point:)
I was SO hyped to see this! The Princess Diaries is hands down an all-time favorite, iconic movie. Julie Andrews is an icon and such a natural choice for a queen. A third film was supposed to be in the works a few years back, and Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews both said they'd be on board if the original director Garry Marshall came back for it, but then he died. Nowadays, Julie Andrews claims she's too old to come back as Queen Clarisse (never!! 😭) but Anne Hathaway still champions for the film to be made, and I love that she's still fighting for it. I've been holding out hope for the third one for sooo long, but if it ever happens, I NEED it to be centered around Queen Mia, not be a reboot about her child or something.
In the book series there is a reboot of a sort where it is discovered that Mia's dad had an unknown younger daughter in elementary school. Similar hilarity goes on.
What's interesting about the makeover is that it actually doesn't make her life easier - it gets her the wrong kind of attention, the popular kids thinking she's just trying to copy them, Lily getting pissed off. It just makes her more palatable to the press. I don't know if that was a purposeful deconstruction, but it's interesting. At the same time, I think the makeover did help Mia to maybe start recognizing that she didn't *have* to be invisible, even if part of her still wanted to be. To take better care of herself and stand up for herself. It didn't fix everything, but it was a first step. Note that after the makeover is the first time Mia stands up to Lily.
Seeing this in theaters with my grandmother is still one of my favorite memories because our relationship was very similar to Mia and Clarisse when I was growing up. 💕 Also, the guy who plays Michael has a real band named Rooney. I got to see them live about 10 years ago which was awesome. My friend went outside for a minute during the opening act because she wasn't feeling well and he came over to see if she was okay. She was so happy when she came back to tell us lol. Btw the sequel is worth watching too! 👑
@@liamisaac1152 That's funny lol. I remember hearing about them because they had a song on the movie soundtrack. I probably saw a behind the scenes interview of him where it was mentioned. Then they performed in an episode of The O.C. a year or two later. Great songs. 🙂

I actually got to see this and the sequel in theatres at release. In an odd and special way I hold these two close to my heart. My Dad and I don't have the best relationship, we fight a lot and have a terrible history. But of the few actual good memories I have in my youth is my Dad taking me to the movies just us, without me asking, without telling me, without Mom, just us. He always took me to see movies he wanted to see, but these I didn't even ask for. I was a teen during these and felt very connected to them. Sort of like with great power comes great responsibility, so does this. If you have opportunity to so good in the world, even if scary, embrace it. I love both this and the sequel so can't wait to see you guys reactions to that one! Also all the well wishes for Nobu! Hope you get better soon!!

I remember this story!
@@emilylewis5373 oh! Sorry I thinking I’m getting two different stories mixed up. Thanks for the info! I’ll edit my comment above!
I know the exact quote you’re talking about 😂
It's *SUCH* a good quote!
I was thinking this as I was watching it's such a good moment. Love Joe
Oooh yay! I can't wait! As a glasses-wearing dorky girl, it's always funny that, in order to be a "proper princess", you have to break your glasses 😂🤓. Always loved this movie!
Just a legendary movie!!
Yeah, I find it really amusing that my own "blossoming" went the opposite direction from the typical 2000s makeover, in which I went from trying to straighten my hair all the time and not wearing glasses to wearing my hair curly and embracing glasses. XD
@@juliacalhoun9491 You kind of look like Mia in the beginning of the movie lol.
*breaks glasses* "what do you think about your new look" bro idk i can't see
@@DarleneLesmana hahaha so true! 🤣
48:14 fun fact, the lady speaking here played the eldest daughter in the Nanny
The pretty brown girl playing Fontana seems like an an underrated actress
I watched this RELIGIOUSLY as a kid like I still know every line including the soundtrack. I honestly think it has to have been well over 50 times!
Oh that’s really cool
Believe it or not, Josh Bryant is played by Erik Von Detten who is the voice of Sid in _Toy Story._
You mean, with the ice cream ? That's great and even in the second movie he's still by her side
@@a.g.demada5263 yes, and in the second movie we see that he goes even further. He stands up for Mia while in Parliament without her even being there. Then at her wedding, he guides her in what she needs to do. That man is truly loyal to the crown.
@@Zarathor10 yes without hesitation
Fun fact you all didn't know...
Joe plays the Hotel Manager in Pretty Woman, and the waiter who catches the food and says, "Slippery little suckers," also catches a snail and says the same exact line in Pretty Woman.
Julie Andrews also played Mary Poppins! Coolest grandma ever! Joe is absolutely the best, my favorite character in the whole movie! 😂
The princess diaries really is a iconic movie.
Oh nice!!!! That’s awesome!!
I can only see Lily as her character Dawn from Welcome to the Dollhouse lol
@@cee3poh888 I'll be honest - I've never seen that
He also has a band called Rooney so his instrument playing is very real. Their self titled album is one of my all time favs
@@SOcal92 He is also the younger brother of Jason Schwartzman who is a member of Phantom Planet, their song California is used for The O.C and Rooney was a featured band in one of the episodes. They are also Coppola so lots of talent in that family lmao.
Michael was played by Robert Schwartzman, who is the lead singer of the band Rooney. His brother is actor Jason Schwartzman and they're all part of the Coppola acting family.
so fun to see y'all react to this!! this movie had such a profound impact on me that to this day, whenever I have the window seat on a flight and the plane is circling the area when we're about to land, I hear Joe in my head going "welcome to genovia"😂 except i'm landing in the middle of nowhere in like, wisconsin lmao
The neighbor Mr. Robatusen was the elevator operator in "Pretty Woman"
Joe is played by Hector Elizondo. He's featured in almost every Garry Marshall movie.
Chris Pine? You guys also HEARD him as the voice of Jack Frost in 'Rise of the Guardians'.
I love this movie, only I could just wish it didn't portray Mia's curly hair as like a negative thing that had to be "fixed" in her makeover.
I only just now realized, this was more or less a 2nd take on "My Fair Lady" but this time Julie is the one that gives the touch up work.
She was also in A Walk To Remember
Julie Andrews is a global treasure. This film is such a childhood classic!
Othe Fun Facts:
1. Anne was chosen for the role without doing or saying anything. She just fell off a chair.😂
2. Anne, mentioned in an interview that Julie is coincidentally , a blood relative.😲
3. Oh yeah, here are another interesting things about Princess Diaries and Anne Hathaway:
The plot resembles a real life American teenager who discovered she's a daughter of Prince Albert of Monaco when she was about 14.
Prince Albert was the son of Princess Grace ( a.k.a. Grace Kelly in Hollywood). I also realized that Princess Grace and Anne Hathaway share the same birthday November 12. Only, Princess Grace died in 1982, two months before Anne was born.😉
Some geeky stuff I know, but it's fun to know stuff😊
That's incredible
23:30 Goldfish die so easily in bowls because they aren't supposed to be kept in bowls. They're a pond fish similar to koi that can get nearly 2 feet long and live over 30 years when kept in a 20+ gallon tank. They breed easily, so the young goldfish make good feeders for turtles and larger fish, which is why they're so cheap in pet stores. Their low price tag leads people to believe that they don't require a lot of space and are short lived.
My mother's goldfish (she kept it in her classroom) lived 7 years before dying last week when I fishsitting it
This film is hands down my favorite live-action Disney film and also Anne Hathaway film in general, thanks for the reaction White Noise.
Also hope Nobu gets better soon.🙏🏼🙏🏼❤️🖤💙
This is one Anne Hathaway’s first film in her career
The directors little Daugherty saw Anne's audition tape and said she should be Mia because she had princess hair.
Truly iconic, probably first say it on Disney Channel actually. Also start time I questioned the "straight hair, no glasses" makeover trope. Her frizzy hair was cute.
As a girl with naturally curly hair and who wore glasses for years until I got contacts, that trope always bothered me lol.
*repeatedly moves the divider up and down* "Oh, I'd be doing the same thing." "Yeah, at least she's relatable."
And then there's people like me, the driver, "No matter how many times you push it, it will go up and down the same way." lol
Joe is absolutely my favorite character. ..in the sequel as well! Looking forward to the reaction.
The actor who plays Joe plays a similar role in Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts. Not sure if you guys have reacted to that but if you haven’t, you should!! I love him!!
Omg yes! Pretty woman is a classic:D
And the waiter who says "it happens all the time" was in both movies as well, with the exact same role and line.
@@that.ll_do_pig OMG!! He sure was!!! That’s too funny😂
Yes! I love that movie!!
The crazy neighbor was in Pretty Woman, too. He played the bellhop.
Omg no one knows her from Elle Enchanted?? If you guys haven’t seen it, you should definitely give it a chance lol
The man writing the letter to Mia is actually Anne Harhaway's real father.
Grandma is french is grand mère
We stann for JOE! When I grew up the kids in my neighbourhood did have scooters! It was a fun way to get around the neighbourhood and movies and shows like this probably made it more popular. I also remember seeing an interview with Sandra Oh and her most requested line to deliver in person by fans was "mmhm mmmhm the queen is coming." Great reaction guys!
I wondered where I saw Mia's mom before.
.
She played Oskar Schindler's wife in SCHINDLER'S LIST
Charlotte is the daughter of Garry Marshall(RIP) the director of "The Princess Diaries.
I just realized the national anthem for Genovia sounds vaguely like the national anthem for Canada.
Anne Hathaway was 20 years old in this movie.
8:45 Shut up!
14:41 Use your head!
26:20 This was for real and on the Bloopers
28:32 happens all the time
Seeing this in theaters with my grandmother is still one of my favorite memories because our relationship was very similar to Mia and Clarisse when I was growing up. 💕
Also, the guy who plays Michael has a real band named Rooney. I got to see them live about 10 years ago which was awesome. My friend went outside for a minute during the opening act because she wasn't feeling well and he came over to see if she was okay. She was so happy when she came back to tell us lol.
Btw the sequel is worth watching too! 👑

Ahhh, so glad all of you enjoyed and was having fun watching it, because I rewatch Princess Diaries all the time ever since I first watched it as a kid and also I hope Nobu gets better. I really also like to see you guys binge watch some of Anne Hathaway's movies, all of them are so good like Ella Enchanted, Devil Wears Prada, The Witches, The Hustle, Hoodwinked, Rio. Whenever I saw our blueray disc of Princess Diaries, I always get the urge to watch it again and again together with my family.
OMG OMG OMG OMG I can’t believe you’re reacting to this movie now. It’s simply iconic and you’ll be happy to hear there might be a 3rd movie on the way.
In a documentary about the director, it was revealed that he picked Anne by showing some of the pics of the actresses auditioning for the role to his young daughter and she picked Anne because she had the best princess hair.
In case you missed it, Executive Producer: WHITNEY HOUSTON!!! 🤩
Great reaction all 4 of you. Thank you
