I think that it was definitely good OP went scorched earth. This conman had hurt a lot of people. It wasn't just revenge, it was justice. There would have been many victims after. Especially if during the capture they pinned Charlie for elder abuse. That was an active victim that OP saved
OP definitely did the right thing in going after those POS criminals. They didn't make "just one mistake" - they repeatedly scammed and harmed people, and deserved every bit of karma that fell on them like a hammer. Justice was truly served.
I wouldn't really call it revenge so much as getting him caught by his own bad karma. This is partially malicious compliance by proxy seeing as his own misdeeds were what got all the other balls rolling. All OP did was get him caught.

When someone screws you over, show no mercy. If you can give scorched earth do it . It will have the added bonus of sending a warning to other potential criminals you are not to be messed with. Just make sure you keep yourself and your business dealings honest and squeaky clean otherwise it'll come back at you.
